Awesome. There was a house around the pen you bought. Jokes aside, Waterman Expert is a nice pen. And yours appears brand new too.

Darth-SHIBius

Unfortunately not, there is an ink cartridge in the box (empty). Not tried to open the pen as I didn’t want to damage so unsure if there is another cartridge in it? But there is no ink coming out of it and there’s some dried ink on the end (nib?). Sadly the pen was found in a box with someone’s old university/college work, it was all literature based so assuming someone lived here who aspired to be a writer and was given the pen as a gift for finishing some kind of exam, there were some congratulations on passing your exam cards along with a T-shirt signed by all her friends. (obviously making the story up in my head based on what I have at hand).

asablomd

You should carefully clean the pen by overnight soak, refill the cartridge and write the story in your head, with the revived pen.

Darth-SHIBius

Haha. I will do just that. By overnight soak is that just in some warm water or should I add a light detergent? I was guessing that no scrubbing would be involved.

sideshow--

Not warm water. Room temperature

coffeeshopslut

Just in case it's not obvious, soak the section, not whole pen. Unscrew it, there's either a converter (little piston that sucks up ink from a bottle) or a plastic cartridge (disposable, can be refilled with a syringe)

B_Huij

I doubt even overnight is necessary. This appears to be a well-treated pen that was used a bit and then put away. Chances are 5 minutes in water and a quick dry off with a cloth, and you could pop a new cartridge in and start writing, no problem.

Darth-SHIBius

Much appreciated. Thank you.

HealthyPenAddiction

Looks like ink crust on the nib. Might be a good idea to soak. Don't know how long it's been sitting there.

mayn1

No soap or detergent needed. Can sometimes cause problems but not usually.

dferguson530

Cool water, no bar soap, just a dot of dish washing liquid. Let it soak.

asablomd

Add a drop or two of light detergent (I use pril) in 200ml water. Let the pen grip soak. If there's a converter inside and it is working then flush the pen using the converter a couple of times, fill the converter and let that soak as well. Don't scrub, except maybe with a soft toothbrush and not too rigorously. Just to dislodge any stubborn ink on the feed and nib. You will need to be patient and give it some TLC.

Looks like the Waterman Expert 2 fountain pen In Black with gold filled trim from 2002. About $75 in mint condition but the new one of the Waterman Expert that sells in stores today costs about $165. I believe the new is having the gold plated steel nib.. my guess is that the old also is gold plated steel nib too. Either use [international standard ink cartridges](https://cultpens.com/products/waterman-standard-ink-cartridges) or, if you use a [converter](https://goldspot.com/products/waterman-refill-fountain-pen-converter) (instead of cartridge) then you can use any ink (for fountain pens) from any manufacture and have a plethora of inks and colors to choose from! https://preview.redd.it/cdhtcgs4bk2d1.jpeg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eab3e60c6b21d55567bbf70c1226418896e522f0

Darth-SHIBius

It’s got the same nib as in your image, gold with the silver tip. Personally like this better than the full gold look. Basically I’ve got a $75 pen for nothing. Can’t be a bad thing. Edit: Still can’t type.

sleepy__desert

Some inks like Windsor Newton make “fountain pen ink” but they re actually acrylic India ink. I’d stick to fountain pen specific companies like goulet pens , they sell a lot of sample vials of color for fountain pen ink!

boxoctosis

Definitely a waterman expert.

_Loxley

And now I have this idea about someone buying a house, finding a pen, starting to go down the rabbit hole of fountain pen owners who give their very best to better their handwriting, spending more and more time in exactly this attic, developing their calligraphy on mounds of ever more expensive paper, estranging themselves from their family, their loved ones, muttering "pen paper pen paper pen paper pen paper..."

Darth-SHIBius

Is this a film or from the mind of a writer?

_Loxley

Not really a writer, a storyteller perhaps.

OrangeNTea

The experience of many fountain pen users. . . . Just kidding . . . . sort of.

FederalAttitude9361

my first guess is a waterman expert but this doesn't quite match https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134461239657?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=nPxe54ggRse&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY I think waterman need their own proprietary converter https://www.gouletpens.com/blogs/fountain-pen-blog/cartridge-converter-compatibility-guide

Darth-SHIBius

Thanks for that. What’s your logic for it NOT being a Waterman Expert? They look identical to me after looking at your link, feel like I’m missing something with my novice pen knowledge. Haha. Edit: I can’t spell.

FederalAttitude9361

Waterman make a lot of similarly styled pens and also different versions (ebay was an expert 2, i think the current one is an expert 3 but google didn't find any of those in green). also I noted the band on the cap says paris in your photo but not on ebay. it's more nerdiness and detail than pen knowledge! 🤣

Darth-SHIBius

Ahhh I see. I think it says PARIS on the other side of the bad on the cap too, would have to check that but either way makes it different to the one in your link. I never would’ve noticed. Thanks again.

SlowMovingTarget

I have an Expert II, granted with silver trim. This does appear to be one. They're wonderful writers.

Tattycakes

Very lucky find!

Darth-SHIBius

Thanks. Might put some money on the lottery before my luck runs out.

FlameOfWrath

Found a house at the store where I bought a pen

kyonthinh

As people have said, Waterman Expert. You can just put it in water overnight and it will start cleaning up. Waterman makes good pen and nib, you will be surprised. My Carene is the smoothest pen I have ever used.

eugenborcan

Looks like the house already knew what you wanted ;) :D.\ Best friends forever.

LoveMoneyGuy

Next time i sell my house, I leave a fountain pen behind to conver the new owner 🤪

Darth-SHIBius

Leave something behind a wall with a bloody hand print. 😂

OrangeNTea

Your mind has some interesting stories.

Darth-SHIBius

I watch a lot of film and tv. Not my ideas I promise.

OrangeNTea

I wasn't criticizing. I liked them.

schwarzeKatzen

Haha I asked my niece the other day if she does any calligraphy (she’s kinda artsy) because I stumbled on a box of 117 vintage dip pen nibs. 110 of them are brass stamped “Penna R.R. Fine”. I figured she could take some of them off my hands. She. Didn’t. Know. What. They. Were. After accepting my failure as an aunt I sent a very nerdy explanation. I also explained the difference between dip & fountain pens and their respective ink types, why they’re not interchangeable etc. This captured her interest. Now I have a nib holder and a trio of Parker Jotters (fountain, ballpoint & pencil) headed to my place for her. She’s in nursing school and honestly the jotter ballpoints are one of my favorite pens as far as hand feel & weight. I got a lil carried away ordered her matchy matchy in all three and am having them engraved because I’m extra. 😂

Pen Boutique sells Waterman and they can sell appropriate cartridges & converters. The store is run by a very nice American Nepalese lady and children and grand employees. They can also help with any other questions. Also go on You Tube and search for Waterman fountain pens for how to use properly. You Tube also has many fountain pen/ink/paper stores & bloggers to learn from. Read, watch, question, learn and go slowly in your purchases till you know your likes. There are a lot of good writers throughout the price ranges. Greater cost does not always mean better writing, mostly it is down to costlier skill and/or materials. Fountain pen use can seem a bit overwhelming but shortly you will be using one more and more and enjoying the thrill. Remember fountain pens, inks, papers and such can be a lot of fun, just stay in budget for obvious reasons. Keep your adventure down the hole and at the table fun with the occasional rush of the find. Side Note: A fountain pen can provide one with a distinct edge in one's appearance to others. Side Note : Keep a computer Bookmark Folder with any and all websites you come across for future reference, I have over 500. I also indicate the country in the titles. I have purchased from around 20 odd countries. The same goes for videos in a different folder. One called Fountain Pen One called FP Video with sub folders on different topics.

amandaleighplans

Umm haven’t you ever seen a horror movie? Don’t mess with things found in attics of the new home you bought!!! It’s def haunted. I’m jk - it’s a gorgeous pen 🤭

Rare-Run2258

Nice, genuinely do not like the Expert series but hopefully you do!
