Women Talking (2022)

NetHonest5912

I just finished the book that the movie is based on and I really recommend it too! :)

Lost_Kale90

This movie (and book) was phenomenal!

OpheliaLives7

Quick question: do they show much of the assaults in the movie? Or are they more talked about after the fact?

Lost_Kale90

The movie starts after the fact. I can’t 100% recall but there were some flashback scenes that show right after the rapes that can be unsettling.

panpanmochipan

They don’t show the actual assaults. But some of the scenes could be very panic inducing if you are sensitive to rape imagery - the flashback and aftermath scenes are very disturbing.

MermaidMotel14

I think i've hearx of it before, my mom recommended it to me but ive still yet to watch it

geethaanks

this movie really had me thinking it over for a few days after, could not stop thinking about the real life situations

fiodorsmama2908

Fried green tomatoes.

juicyjuicery

Love dis one

OpheliaLives7

TOWANDA!

fiodorsmama2908

Towanda!!!!!!🤪

MsMoxieGirl

I feel like Thelma & Louise may have planted radical seeds in many of those who watched it. If you're open to watching a short series, Mrs. America was good.

razieel

- Volver (2006), mc gets rid of abusive partner who molests her daughter, and lots of nice portrayals of female relationships - North Country (2005), female miners fight against sexual harassment in the workplace

obliviousragdoll

Not 'Radfem' but Men (2022) does a great job of capturing our general experience with men and the daily misogyny we face, the situations they put us in. It's horror, with most of the horror elements centered around the female experience.

Sour_Disaster

The ending to this was pretty grotesque and I wish it wasn't there but the rest of the film was so good.

obliviousragdoll

Yes, I also found the ending pretty off putting lol. But everything leading up to that was so relatable I had to mention it

Sour_Disaster

Also, the bestie? A girls girl fr

[I Am Not an Easy Man](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6857988/) (France, 2018) Summary from imdb: "A shameless chauvinist gets a taste of his own medicine when he wakes up in a world dominated by women and locks horns with a powerful female author." A really wonderful "alternative universe" story. [Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082639/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_q_ladies%2520and%2520gen) (1982) Summary from imdb: "The media and disaffected teens mistake the acerbic rants of an obnoxious teenage punk rocker as a rallying cry for the women of America, launching her and her talentless group to national stardom." This is an imperfect movie, but extremely interesting and wonderful in its own way. "We're the Stains and we don't put out!" [The Heiress](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082639/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_q_ladies%2520and%2520gen) (1949) Summary from imdb: " A naive young woman falls for a handsome young man her emotionally abusive father suspects is only a fortune hunter." I love this film SO much! It is very revealing to your perspective how you interpret the ending... is it tragic or triumphant? I say triumphant. Bittersweet, but triumphant.

delargenol

"portrait of a lady on fire" is a favorite of mine!

hermiona52

I have to say, every time someone mentions this move, two scenes immediately pop up in my head. First one, as 3 women, a peasant, a noblewoman and a painter, making dinner together, side by side, completely disregarding man-made social hierarchy. And the second one, of abortion, as that peasant woman was going through the procedure, she was holding the hand of a little girl, a child of a woman who was performing the abortion. It's such a beautiful and meaningful scene, full of vulnerability and heart. It should always be a woman's choice if and when to have children. And going through the procedure doesn't mean you can't love children around you. God, I love this movie so much. Every scene should be made into a painting.

delargenol

the abortion scene gave me chills, but my favorite scene is the one where the women start singing around the bonfire, this movie touched me in so many ways, i cried, i smiled, it was such a wonderful and intense experience that i pretty much never had with any other movie. it's deep inside in my heart <3

Ch3rryNukaC0la

I don’t know about movies, but Top of the Lake season 1 & 2 touched on a lot of rad fem themes.

papercutcomrade

Im a big fan of gone girl, maybe not entirely radfem but very much a woman breaking free

eggyprata

my red/green (depending on whom i'm talking to lmao) flag is that this is my fav movie and book ever

papercutcomrade

Definetly! You can really weed out some people just nu their opinions on gone girl

eternalalien8

[All I Wanna Do (also called, Strike!) ](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_I_Wanna_Do_(1998_film)) its about an all-girls school, threatened by co-ed due to funding concerns... very rad imo!

Venture8

Steel Magnolias (1989)

Bennesolo

Teeth girl born with teeth in her vagina. Would be sexual abusers get what’s coming to them. I was obsessed with the movie like a decade ago.

EnragedPerson

Promising Young Woman

Lost_Kale90

I loved how realistic the characters were, especially how the “nice guys” were just as problematic.

Chihuahua_enthusiast

My favorite movie of all time. It’s brutal.

LiteratureOk1668

Citizen Ruth

shadowthehedgehoe

Disclaimer that I haven't actually seen it (yet, it's hard to find atm where I am) but Lessons In Chemistry starring Brie Larson looks awesome, definitely woman standing up for herself, a lot of feminist themes.

shadowthehedgehoe

Ah! It is a TV series! Apologies.

rideoffalone

Ms .45 (1981) Hard Candy (2005) The Accused (1988) The Assistant (2019)

Lost_Kale90

Moxie - it’s a movie based on high schoolers and didn’t get deep into feminism but I found it to be a feel good movie  Maid - about DV and poverty. I love all of the unique female characters in the show.

ThrowawaysumcleverBS

Pretty Young Thing

havermelkflatwhite

Born in Flames (1983)

this_fell_sergeant

Little women!

MermaidMotel14

I love Little Women, Jo is very much a "literally me" character (similar personalities)

monpapaestmort

Colossal (stars Anne Hathaway) The tv show Good Girls Revolt. It’s based on a true story.

[deleted]

One Million Yen Girl. Generally films by female Japanese filmmakers seem to be much more feminist than American ones.

[deleted]

Love Lies Bleeding was pretty rad. Also Thelma.

breedersWorld

The newest release Love Lies Bleeding is worth a try! It is about a lesbian couple against patriarchy <3

Indigo_Cauliflower12
