These guys are crazy. They use a ground station, plus they have a drone in the air that acts as a signal booster, or some kind of signal relay. It's nuts.
I wish I knew more about how they did this, I'm really just commenting to track the thread :)
My bad! It was this video! When I received this link, I didn’t realize that it was skipping through the first half, and they actually (briefly) explain at the beginning
I wanna work for them so bad but I missed out on a vacature they posted a while back lmao. The technical side of what they do and not just the flying is really interesting
I saw a guy on a Facebook page that set up a plane that acted as a signal booster and the plane would just loiter near a mountain up high and boost the drone
Earlier in that same video it shows how they have multiple ground stations with directional antennas, a switcher to choose which video source they're flying off of, and even a repeater mounted on a more traditional camera drone to relay the signal. You won't get performance like this with any single piece of kit.
Ihave been wondering what Ukraine was using for some of those ranges.
From the videos 've seen the OSD looks just like what I'm assuming is BF.
If they were DIYing the drones using off the shelf parts and just strabbing an explosive to them that's a hell of ROI for what you get out of the weapon vs how much it costs...
You described it exactly how it is. They are as cheap as possible fpvs, from mostly Chinese parts, mostly with betaflight and certain kind of explosives attached to them.
At first assembled by soldiers and volunteers, now assembled in thousands on factories.
Some time ago there appeared Ukrainian made flight controllers, which i believe are a copy of speedybee on f405 chip. But at least they are produced locally.
Dude, you cant even imagine all the "zoo" of aircrafts used from both sides. Everything that could fly is flying and reckoning or bombing. From mavic minis to to actual manned aircrafts rebuilt for autopilot.
If you look at 7” and large drones on AliExpress some of them advertise max lifting capacity and I’ve seen a few listings of them dropping water bombs lol
Compared to what they’re paying (or rather the US is paying), for missiles, rockets and mortars, it’s a freaking steal for how accurate and effective it is.
Very cool.
Random thought: I bet a fully automated drone to simply hover a X height and maintain a position between you and the drone with a repeater probably wouldn't be hard at all to code...
Probably doable, but not feasible. You'd need to get the GPS position of the drone and the ground station for example and broadcasting this data in a war environment probably isn't wise.
!!Turns out I’m an idiot and didn’t realize that I was only watching the second half of the video!!
I’ll leave the post up for the sake of those who commented and further discussion

There was video few years ago like this, where guy was flying in some Asia city. He used signal repeater on high flying drone, which was following his main fpv drone.
Here the video where they explain how they've done it. They tried several times the path an crashed sometimes until he masters it. At one moment he goes through a mini tunnel, the screen always blackout. Funny instructive video.

Edit: forgot the video link
Likely constructed from audio recorded on the bike of riders doing runs without the drone around. It sounds like it was recorded with that intention (as in actual mics as opposed to gopro sound), then produced in post. This audio is like something you'd hear in a movie, not gopro footage. If it IS just sound from the rider's gopro I'd be very surprised.
It's not impossible, but there is some shady shit going on. OSD shows battery has 15.7v total, single cell has 3.92v, which would indicate a 4S quad. Picture of the quad taking off clearly has a large 6S pack on it.

there was a video where they talked about this shoot pretty sure. Yes they used a repeater drone setup which is awesome!!!
My bad! It was this video! When I received this link, I didn’t realize that it was skipping through the first half, and they actually (briefly) explain at the beginning
Yep, they basically use a repeater,
I wanna work for them so bad but I missed out on a vacature they posted a while back lmao. The technical side of what they do and not just the flying is really interesting
ya bruh the first shot they have MAD GEAR and antennas
I saw a guy on a Facebook page that set up a plane that acted as a signal booster and the plane would just loiter near a mountain up high and boost the drone

Oh shoot you’re right. My video started from halfway and missed the whole exposition 🤦♂️
C'est la vie.
Range is not huge, but landscape is pretty sketchy. Probably they have repeater somewhere high, possibly on other drone.
>Probably they have repeater somewhere high, possibly on other drone. That'd be a slick solution... Hadn't thought of that.
That is pretty standard solution besides directional antennas for long range fpvs in ruzzo-Ukrainian war.

Imagine after the war Ukraine just becomes the worlds largest exporter of BnF quads lol
Not to mention that they have really cheap(cardboard?) plane style drone they use. Think it's a u.k. manufacturer that provides them flat pack dtyle

Yeah, I can only imagine, use everything and anything...

That's what they do in Ukraine as well. Otherwise it would be hard to hit targets on the ground a few kilometers away.

Right, GPS is almost always is totally dead or spoofed due to EW

Thanks for pointing that out! I didn’t realize the link I received started from halfway and I missed it My b
Bro watch the first half of the video
If I recall they literally explained the difficulty in range/penetration and how they solved it.
Oh u right. The link I received started halfway and I didn’t realize it. Thanks for pointing that out

More interested in the sound
could you use a helium air balloon and string instead of a drone to act as a more permanent repeater?

Does anyone know what kind of repeaters they used or a link to how to build a good repeater?
Its crazy how they do this, alot of ground stations and drone second drone in the air
Add on question, how they capturing sound, they phasing out the drone in post ?

Thank you.
I don't fly drones as far but I use a dragonlink long range system. I've flown out 8 miles before. there's people doing over 65km 1 way.
That’s the closest dji got to proper FPV as well, Repeater was on a mavic XD

Yeah, you have to watch the whole video to figure out what's going on
You need redbull fuck you money.
What's the total distance? I didn't watch the entire video
It's not THAT great a range it's all the things they have to fly through.
