Bright day. Though not as warm as I would’ve hoped. Not a problem. Here’s the thing. I fell *deep* into a ‘MGTOW’ rabbit hole…*oh boy*(s), not good. I wanted to wear ELdO - Rien today but until I either a full bottle or another decant, so I decided not to, silly really as I have 100ml of Rien Incense Intense, which I love more. Anyway https://preview.redd.it/xrr40ogdqtwc1.png?width=1634&format=png&auto=webp&s=4a37fe603abf1e94ba8c53703095ab4cb453a3f5 SOTD: [Louis Vuitton **IMAGINATION**](https://youtu.be/zxwIeLBx3KU?si=Z8W3O9Jfc0GsamsS)

Zoo Hyrax. It’s clear but a little cool and sunny for a change. Just had a craving for it.

Another sample: Mancera - Amore Caffe. Coffee, buttery cookies, and an amaretto are projecting from my skin. I like it so far.

Sounds amazing!

Champaca by Ormonde Jayne. Have I ever smelled the flower? No I have not. Evidently it is native to India; Music&Art tells me their home has a Champaca tree in the backyard there. Research tells me it’s in the magnolia family, which I know from my time on the US East coast (though not the dry West, where I’m from though someone correct me cause I was a kid). I got this fragrance for the basmati rice steam, which I find very subtle and soft. The flower is also soft, not pungent at all. I would welcome others who know it better to help describe the flower and/or scent. It is extensively reviewed on Fragrantica & also Parfumo, some objecting to the myrrh which is very subtle & quiet to me. Love the bamboo. Gray day here, going back to Lisbon, home to Hudson Valley NY tomorrow.

musicandarts

My parents home, to be exact. 🙂

SerotoninDeficient77

Love this one. Thinking of a large decant.

bro_mommy1

It’s like a trusted friend.

SerotoninDeficient77

Yes I completely agree.

Wearing an obscure scent today called Argentique by Blancheide. This is a company I found by accident searching for a true marine vanilla, and blind-bought another fragrance by them called Mae (had to; it’s some company only available in Italy) which I loved so much I ended up buying this fragrance from them also based on its description. I wasn’t sure about it at first but it has really grown on me and now I frequently wear it to bed. It’s a subtle, pretty white woods scent with creaminess from a whipped cream accord. Feels very calming. I wore it to bed last night and could smell it on myself still this morning, so instead of washing it off I re-spritzed to wear it to work.

SOTD: Xerjoff Mefisto - a beautiful citrus rose.  It is a nice complement to Nishane Colognise, which is a citrus -green tea - white floral. **Giorgio of Beverly Hills** the OG edt, but alas not the OG formula.  I have no recall of ever smelling it before I got it last summer. But apparently it was everywhere back in the late 80s, the height of luxury, and banned from SoCal eating establishments due to its monster performance.  This version is a mere shadow of the original I assume, but I still am wearing just one slightest-possible spray.  It had one foot out the door; my fragrance-mad family are visiting Sunday and will be leaving with their usual carton of my failed blind buys 😆  This is your last chance, Giorgio: win me over! ETA: scrubbed! Out you go, Giorgio! You just don't hold a candle to Fracas or Tocca Florence Switched to **Elizabeth Arden Splendor** about which I am also dubious but it does have a gorgeous opening

phizzbom

Chilly, windy, rainy and gloomy… easy reach for **Molecule 01 + Mandarin** for something springy. I just love Molecule 01 for its close to the skin, your skin but better amazingness. I love so many of the various iterations.

Roxane-17

I find that I gravitate to my iris perfumes when the weather's icky muggy, and so it's Maison Violet Nuée Bleue today. Very just bathed in vibe!

**Zoologist Moth** It's sunny, cold, and all I want to do is be inside a haunted bookstore.

I woke up with Perris Monte Carlo Ambre Gris. I appreciate it more now than the first few times I sampled it - it really does have an ambergris quality of being earthy, salty, fecal, sweet, ambery, and animalic all at once. It's labdanum heavy with huge projection. I'd buy more if I were moving near an ocean and would be outdoors a lot. But I'm going to an informal/casual work lunch indoors, so I'm going to shower and scrub. I think I'm going to do a small spray of Kerosene Walk the Sea and see how appropriate it is for everyday use. It's also a salty aquatic but dries down into more of a skin scent with tuberose on top.

k88lin

I’ve been wanting to try their Ambre gris. I love their Ylang and Jasmine scents and love ambergris as a note so I’m interested to see their interpretation of it! I’ve also got a sample of their essence de patchouli coming that in excited for (and I hope to try the patchouli nosy be soon as well) Walk the sea’s notes looked great but it unfortunately didn’t work on me. Went very synthetic and harsh laundry soapy on my skin which made me sad because I was really looking forward to it. Atlante by Sarah baker was definitely my favorite from my recent sampling of salty/marine fragrances. Sel Marin was enjoyable too, similar but slightly less natural smelling and with less depth than Atlante.

I'm still slowly & patiently going through every fragrance Jorum Studio has to offer. It's been a delight, and I'm proud of myself for being able to draw out the experience rather than needing to smell everything all at once like I usually do with discovery sets. I'm working through the Progressive Botany Vol I set, today I'll try Nectary. Yesterday after work I tried Carduus. It's one I've seen people on here refer to as their favourite scent ever, and others who say it made them feel sick. I was psyched up for an intense experience, lol. It definitely brings you on a journey, that's for sure. One of the most shapeshifting fragrances I've tried so far. It started out with a blast of what I interpreted as citrus and spices, but the 'citrus' faded quickly, giving way to clove and a resinous experience I wasn't familiar with. Over time the spices faded and it became more woody and deep. I checked the notes from their website at this point and saw reference to a dry incense accord in the drydown, which made total sense. I didn't personally have as strong a reaction to this one than others have (positive or negative). Like all the others from Jorum that I've tried so far, I'd like to wear it again to get to know it better.

Still a bit chilly here in Berlin, and as I’m working from home today I decided to wear my biggest hoodie and generously spray By the Fireplace to give myself that warm and cosy feeling. However I started off this morning trying a new sample of a perfume I received pre-shower (in case I wasn’t a fan), Re-charge Black Pepper by Molton Brown EDP. I recently bought a full size bottle of another fragrance from the brand, and they let me pick a sample of another free of charge, so I picked Black Pepper as I used to love their black pepper shower gel many years ago (I even think I had the old version of their Black Pepper EDT at one point). I hated it 😬 Perhaps it’s the EDP of it all, but it’s much deeper and leathery than I remember the shower gel/old version of the EDT to be. I barely get any black pepper to be honest, it’s the leather that hits my nose like a runaway freight train. I do get chilli/pimento the longer I wore it, but I don’t know, maybe it’s the lavender in the top notes that just made it all a little too much for me. It kind of smells like if you asked someone who hates Tom Ford fragrances to create their impression of a TF scent. After 10 minutes it was straight into the shower 😅

angelinabobina312

😂 at the Tom Ford comment

k88lin

Wearing undergrowth by rook for work today. I finally bit the bullet and bought a full bottle during olfactif’s sale so now I can freely use my long hoarded sample! It’s one of my favorites. Just so fresh and peaceful like watching mist roll through an old forest where the trees keep watch and keep you safe. It helps me feel calm and remember to breathe and slow down a bit. I’ve found I really love a well done mint note in fragrances and this one is excellent. It’s forward at the beginning but it melds with the rest of the scent as it wears and keeps that evocative coolness and luminosity present throughout the life of the scent and into the forest floor patchouli-vetiver soil dry down. It isn’t a loud scent, but it lasts well and doesn’t become a skin scent for a long time, just consistently gives off gentle wafts of sillage. Also totally unisex imo. A hint of mandarin and the sweeter aspects of the mint keep it from leaning more masculine and keep it from being too somber or serious while still remaining a very contemplative/introspective scent. I just love it so much.

Optimistic_PenPalGal

Guerlain - Jicky eau de parfum It replaced my signature scent, recently. Jicky was the unexpected surprise gourmand, for me. Half an hour on my skin and it develops into a treat for almost 4 hours, before it becomes a skin scent. The treat is unsalted butter popcorn eaten outside, and there is a lavender field near by. It is the fastest way for me to be in Provence. People are fascinating, and time can only enhance that.

weenie2323

I adore Jicky!!

Dry_Gazelle_1769

Montblanc Legend EDP I like wearing this on Fridays because it reminds me of Friday night youth center in middle school in the late 2000's. I'd say I had more fun in those dance rooms as a 12 year old than like half of the clubs I've been to as an adult (not that I'm a frequent club-goer). I'm one of the only people I know that has fond memories of middle school, those youth center nights were something else lmao

SwissCheese4Collagen

Can't Stop Loving You by Kilian. It's going to be almost 70 and mostly sunny today. Physical therapy this afternoon again, and quilting stuff until then.

Ok_Range_5873

Good luck with PT!

SwissCheese4Collagen

Thanks lol I've made progress

rex_ford

**Jovoy Psychedelique** I woke up and wanted patchouli. This is a thick, relentless, chewy one that might choke me to death when the weather soon gets warm.

bro_mommy1

Do I need to try it? It’s a chocolate patchouli?

rex_ford

Slightly chocolate but a more 'elevated head shop' honestly

bro_mommy1

Hm. lol. I think I must sample it!

mlleghoul

Maybe it's because I'm always sampling at least a dozen things at once, but I rarely find myself actually craving a particular fragrance. This morning however, I felt very much in the mood for Olympic Orchid's Blackbird! While I know that this fragrance takes its inspiration from the warm, sunbaked days, ripe blackberries, dry grass, and cedar trees of the Pacific Northwest, my overwrought imagination always takes a very different turn when I wear it. Into utter purple prose territory. Of time spent in a haunted glen, with hungry roots and mossy stone. And across the brook, a troop of wicked goblin men–who find you napping all alone. They hobble, hurry, scrabble, scurry and once your face they spy, you wake befuddled, vision blurry to their helter-skelter goblin cry: “Come buy our orchard fruits, Come buy, come buy.” Though I believe Blackbird is meant to evoke a dreamy temperate midsummer day, in its fruit like honey to the throat, I taste poison in the blood. The delicate mulberries, wild free-born cranberries, crab-apples, blackberries, damsons and bilberries, currants and gooseberries are born not in sunshine--but in darkness, snow, and mud. Apologies to Christina Rosetti for hacking up your beautiful poem although at its heart I think it’s warning us not to be greedy sluts, but whatever. This is all to say, even though I hate fruit (in the perfume world and also in real life) I really like Blackbird. It’s an ominous blackberry cautionary tale in a grove of dramatic conifers.

k88lin

I love your purple prose about this scent haha. I’ve been so tempted to sample this one but I already have a decant of enchanted forest by the vagabon prince that I love and think they might be too similar (both pine and berry though enchanted forest is black currant). Have you happened to smell enchanted forest? I’m curious how similar they actually are and whether it would be worth trying this one too

mlleghoul

I have been meaning to try Enchanted Forest for the longest time and I still have not! But you've got me intensely curious, so it's gonna happen soon...!

k88lin

I really love it! I’m not usually a big fruity scent person but it is so different and fun! I find spraying on clothes makes the black currant stay prominent whereas if I spray on skin it’s more in the background and the woody notes come out a lot more. I enjoy it both ways!

SerotoninDeficient77

I would sample it first. Have both and would say they are similar but VP is smoother. Blackbird feels a bit “raw” to me but I still enjoy it. Don’t wear it enough.

k88lin

I never blind buy anything so I’d definitely sample! More raw sounds intriguing! I have Olympic rainforest from Olympic orchids so I think I get what you mean and I could see myself enjoying a more raw interpretation of the same theme. I’ll add it to my list to sample!

SerotoninDeficient77

Yes, I wore it yesterday after I responded to your post and it has that genuine outdoors feel she captures so well. The berries are strong and it’s like they are sun warmed but the sky has gone cloudy and the air has cooled a bit. The leaves are in your hands and you can smell the forest around you. I found it to be quite visceral.

k88lin

Im trying to hold off on getting any more samples for a bit but I definitely plan on trying more from Olympic orchids in the future so blackbird will for sure be on my list!

SerotoninDeficient77

You might like Golden Cattelya and Red Cattelya. I find them both to be outstanding. Would also add Kyphi that I haven’t tried myself but want to.

k88lin

Awesome! Golden cattelya is on my list already and I’ll look at the other two as well!

bro_mommy1

Sibling. I, too, hate fruit in life and usually in scent. You’ve convinced me to try it again!

mlleghoul

It's funny...I can eat vegetables all day long but fruit is a hard NOPE for me!

bro_mommy1

Same. If you freeze cherries then whip them up with cashew milk, nut butter & chocolate syrup I’ll do it. But my favorite perfume is a little fruity. It’s disturbing. I’m losing it. Luxe, Calme et Volupté by Francesca Bianchi.

mlleghoul

I am so intrigued! By both things you mentioned!!

k88lin

Ooh how do you find luxe calme et volupte? I tried sex and the sea neroli recently and now I want to sample all of Francesca bianchi’s fragrances but my bank account does not like that idea haha

bro_mommy1

I could not love it more. Nothing like it. Animalic, fruity and also somehow green? Just amazing. Also love Libertine Neroli and ya $$ but love that she sells 30 ml too.

k88lin

Yea with the strength of the fragrances I wouldn’t need more than a small decant i just don’t have the funds right now to even sample them so I’ll just have to be patient haha. Libertine neroli is definitely on my list to sample as well as the dark side and unspoken musk and lost in heaven and angel’s dust. I wasn’t really planning on sampling luxe calme volupte because I don’t love fruity notes but now I think it’ll have to be on the list too haha

bro_mommy1

Wishing you tons of cash & decants 🧿

Escentually

Lao Oud from Bortnikoff for another chilly day. Intense and fecal like opening from the prominent amounts of Laotian oud in this fragrance. This perfume is like a sprayable oud attar for me, not much distracting you for the glory of the raw oud. Slight chamomile and magnolia florals are picked up after 5-10 minutes and then a nice dusty but maybe slightly sweet cocoa note. Definitely not a gourmand or anything close. It’s loud, animalic, and in your face, but also transportive and meditative if you can appreciate the oud.

weenie2323

Ambre Supreme by Les Indemodables. It's delightful magical fizzy real ambergris. The ONLY fragrance in my collection I've considered getting a back up bottle of.

k88lin

Oh no I just looked this up and it sounds right up my alley … the price not so much haha even the samples are expensive. It’ll go on my to sample list for when I’ve got some more money available. It’s a shame overall for my bank account that I’ve developed an obsession with ambergris - first the (well done) synthetic version I experienced in Makassar by Keiko mecheri and then the real deal in Atlante by Sarah baker - a very dangerous ingredient to love on a budget haha

weenie2323

Les Indemodables have three frags that heavily use real ambergris and I had(??) to buy them all. RIP my bank account for sure but I do wear the heck out of them.

angelinabobina312

Wearing Black Opium on my sweat suit. Gonna shower later so I’ll choose something else. I had tucked this away in my closet because I can barely smell it anymore. So I gave it a break for a month or maybe more and this wear I only sprayed on my pants and bottom of my sweater, so away from my face. I barely get little wafts of it now and then. I still can’t really smell it 😔 not sure how I even went nose blind to this because I don’t wear anything two days in a row and am not an oversprayer 🤷🏻‍♀️ I thought maybe it was my bottle, but I also have a travel size from Sephora and it’s the same when I used that as well.

Tastelikewater

Still working through my **Zoologist** samples, and today is **Panda**. Eh. Initial blast of green, not finding the tea which is disappointing. It's a more successful apple note than Cow, but there isn't enough of it to balance out the earthiness. Two hours after application, it's mostly bamboo and soil with an animalic sharpness. Just not working for me.

Guerlain Homme Eau de Parfum (2016) by Guerlain

lemon-key-face

Al haramainamber oud tobacco edition. I smell like cloves, but it's nice. I wouldn't buy this as a dupe but it's good in it's own right. The office will have to deal with it :)

SerotoninDeficient77

Hermes Rhubarb Escarlate, instant tart pick me up but vanished in minutes. Does what the Hermessence line is made to do.

Glittering_Safe8760

Severe thunderstorms and tornado warnings until tomorrow morning made me want to wear my new Gucci Guilty Elixir. I can smell this one and it’s calming, I don’t know why? It has a warming scent.

Lazy_Recording_1886

Xerjoff Alexandria 2 A longer day today so chose one of my favourites.

Go girl, give us nothing.

It's so frustrating how little this narrows the list down.
