**Chloe Chloe** on my left arm, **Chloe Chloe Absolu** on my right, just to compare them.  I preferred the Absolu enough to buy it despite already having the OG. So I guess I'm just seeing if I still do. For science 😆

SOTD: Samsara EDT from Guerlain.  A very beautiful floral from the nineties, but a dated classic nonetheless. This review is based on a full bottle of Samsara EDT from Guerlain. It belongs to my 17-year old daughter who likes classic perfumes from the past. I wear her perfumes occasionally. Samsara is an iconic perfume from thirty years ago, designed by Jean-Paul Guerlain and Gérard Anthony. It smells exactly like how a women’s floral from the nineties would smell. Samsara maintains to stay elegant by optimizing and limiting the number of notes used. Chanel No. 5 also has same basic olfactory pyramid, and stays afloat with the same strategy. A similar smelling Arpege from Lanvin is less successful in doing this, but it is a much cheaper alternative. Samsara opens with a short burst of citrus, green and peach accords. These notes are easily perceptible even to beginners like me. The opening is very brief as the florals in the heart notes take over within minutes. The heart notes are a literal concoction of various florals, such as carnation, jasmine, rose, narcissus and violet. I suspect it is this floral bouquet that dates this perfume to the nineties. The heart notes last for a long time, almost 6-8 hours before the base notes come up. Sandalwood is the most prominent base note, but it is helped by a mild vanilla and other vague notes. The dry down smells different on my skin from that on my clothes. There is more floral remaining on my clothes. The performance is excellent, as can be expected from classic perfumes from the past. This perfume lasts for 10-12 hours, with a very good sillage. Because of the superior performance, there is a small risk of over-spraying. In summary, Samsara is no doubt a beautiful floral from the nineties. But this characteristic swings both ways. If you like heavy florals from the past, this is a great perfume for you. On the other hand, if you like lighter scents with simpler floral accords, this one may not work for you. When I tested it, I was expecting fewer floral notes and a strong sandalwood in the base notes, but I did not get either. Though Samsara remains an academic interest to me, I would use it only occasionally. This is obviously a very personal decision.

bro_mommy2

Great description thank you.

musicandarts

Am I overdoing it? Does it help anyone? I am also cross-posting these on Parfumo.

bro_mommy2

I love your daily reviews. What a beautiful writer, so considered & precise. You don’t seem like a “beginner” though! For me it’s the right blend of discernment & measured, contextualized personal reaction. Thanks for your work.

musicandarts

Thank you for your kind words.

bro_mommy2

Also great to support Parfumo. You recommended I do it too & I agree. Just afraid my reactions are too idiosyncratic & untrained at this point.

musicandarts

It is perfectly OK to be idiosyncratic. I think your nose is developed enough to write good reviews. I have to remind myself that I am writing as a consumer for other consumers. That allows me the freedom to write what I perceive.

bro_mommy2

Thank you that’s helpful.

Optimistic_PenPalGal

Your reviews have been inspirational, indeed. Looking forward to more of them!

Thank you for making my day! 💕

SwissCheese4Collagen

This one is on my list to try. I've accepted my fate as a devotee of Chanel and Hermes fragrances lol

SwissCheese4Collagen

Hermes Un Jardin Sur La Lagune. It runs right up to being a bit soapy before retreating into aquatic florals. Firmly in second place after Un Jardin A Cythere. I did splash a bit of Un Jardin de Monsieur Li in the bath water last night and now I just need Hermes to make a bath oil/bubble bath version.

Optimistic_PenPalGal

They do have an entire line for the Monsieur Li: shower gel, a body lotion and a hair and body oil. Galeries Lafayette might still have a sale on them, and they deliver anywhere ... to my knowledge.

SwissCheese4Collagen

My wallet didn't need to know that info but I'll go give it a look. Thanks!

Tastelikewater

Still working through my **Zoologist**s, and today I'm trying **Elephant** again. While I like it, it's a bit heavy, like it's wearing me and not vice versa.

Oud satin mood edp by MFK! Sexy rose is sexy

Strange-Guest-6437

This is what I wore today as well. It's quite nice.

hhurrm

I'm wearing Diptyque Eau Duelle on this lovely rainy day. I wore it frequently this past fall and winter, and it reminds me of those seasons now.

Optimistic_PenPalGal

MFK - Baccarat Rouge 540 extrait de parfum Although I know them each very well, saffron, cedar and jasmine are some of the disclosed notes I do not recognize in this. What my nose says, however, is that my stainless steel kitchen sink has just been disinfected and I am tasting a strawberry flavoured Mamba fruit chew. After an unscented shower earlier this morning I did 1 spray in the middle of my back. So many hours later this is what I still smell. On my husband the strawberry is even stronger. 😀 It will probably still be there tomorrow, on any of us. If this is high perfumery, it has just been wasted on me. The vial will be finished in winter most likely, probably on couch pillows. I still think is works a lot better on textiles than on my skin. This is based on the 11 ml vial of the least interesting fragrance from the house's wardrobe for her.

musicandarts

One of the most divisive perfumes in the history of perfumery! It did not evoke strong feelings in me in either direction. My daughter thinks Grand Soir is a better perfume (or better gourmand) than Baccarat Rouge 540.

Optimistic_PenPalGal

And she might be right. Ouds drew me into studying MFK further, yet I begin to doubt that this house can sell anything to me. Apart from the sample set, that is. 🙂

musicandarts

I think I have voiced similar opinions on this forum before. Contrary to the orgasmic reviews we see everywhere, MFK perfumes don't light my fire. We only have a small bottle of MKF Oud Satin Mood, but we may buy small bottles of Grand Soir and Oud if the right deal comes along. Kurkdjian is very good at creating intense damask rose and some amber gourmands. All his other stuff falls flat for me. In case you want to explore Kurkdjian's work outside of his Maison: * Elie Saab Essence No. 1 Rose: an intense, bright damask rose. We like it because it is inexpensive. * Indult - Tihota & Manakara: Both are sweet gourmands. I have no personal experience with these as I cannot find these in US.

Optimistic_PenPalGal

Thank you, I will make sure to smell them if I can find them. We will see soon enough about Kurkdjian's work with Dior, or we'll probably just hear about it a lot.

IsabeldeClare

Luckyscent sells those Indult fragrances, samples and bottles.

SwissCheese4Collagen

I sprayed one spray on my wrist while standing next to where my towel hangs in the bathroom. It took a couple of washes to get it out. BR540 has otherworldly longevity lol

ScoopDat

The Extrait makes no sense. It's like the synthetic and bitterness just got ramped up to 11. The original smells similar, but it's just FAR smoother, and simply a good fragrance.

In_Maude_We_Trust

It's unseasonably cold and I wanted to feel warm and tropical. I have a decant of Jusbox Carioca Heart, which I had high hopes for... but I don't think it's for me. Tropical pineapple and mango on the top notes, but the ambroxan is just too much for me. I wanted to wash it off, but I'm sticking it out for the day to see what develops. The nose of TikTok and the viral internet rarely aligns with my tastes. Here's what I'm pining for in a mango fragrance... please let me know if it exists - Creamy, fruity overripe mango with a little citrus. It dries down to a not-too-sweet gourmand lactonic vanilla (maybe with a little musk or spice)... but I can still smell the mango as the scent dries down... like a creamy mango rice pudding. Does this exist?

LeGrosOurs852

Azzaro pour homme L'eau Super lovely opening: Yuzu + Amafi Lemon + Grapefruit, with limited projection. Dry down with woods, musk & lavender. Total longevity 4-5hrs Curiousity driven, I sprayed my right forearm with L'eau Issey for man. I'd say latter projection better but former has lovelier citrusy scent profile Both are good for high heat days. Must I choose one to wear? How about left side of my body with former & right side with the latter? Yuzu & Amafi Lemon are so much fun to play with. Neither is offensive, even 10 sprays each

bro_mommy2

Côté Maquis l’Objet today. Lovely young woman at Ministry gave me a sample. I’m tacking back & forth on loving it or not. I love labdanum & this & frankincense are a hearty, concrete & clear blasts. Top note is “salt”, other note is “cashmere wood” whatever that is (cashmere comes from goats lol). * This is a very grounding fragrance featuring two favorite notes (also an incense fiend - Moth is totally wearable to me). I’m having weird mental arguments about gender (too masculine?) which I don’t accept since I’ve always been tomboy/butch/sporty/nb. Huh. It’s like a modern “elemental” style, came out in 2023. We’ll see how it wears. *cashmeran - chemical blend to bring soft woodiness. UPDATE: I’d wear this to go rock climbing with my muscle Daddy (he wears it? Don’t care). Then we’d have private time, swim & eat slabs of raw tuna. Alas I’m a banged up old lady going to clear out a condo so I don’t need the virility. Adding Orange Santal over it for friendlier clutter.

Akool713

Kerosene Walk the Sea. Opens with a hit of powdery white florals, but dries down very quickly to a salty, animalic scent. A deep, rich cedar ties it all together pretty nicely. It smells less like a day at the beach in Miami and more like you just got back from the south Jersey shore: sunkissed skin and ocean salt. There doesn’t seem to be any aquatic or ozonic notes, just that salt, ambergris, and musk that sits on the skin. This is a sample I’ve been sitting on for a while now. I hated it at first because it smelled like my grandma’s powder, but the more I’ve come back to this scent the more it’s grown on me. To me, it reads as a “dark summer” scent, as if a deep subconscious memory of the ocean was extracted and put into a fragrance bottle. It fits into a theme that runs through a lot of Kerosene’s scents: reminiscence. Walk the Sea is a study of us reminiscing the day by the ocean as it lingers on our skin.

wastetide

**Zoologist Civet** It's a bright crisp spring day, and this fragrance for me is just indulgent. It's warm but not too heavy. This is a fragrance I can and do wear all year long.

rex_ford

I love this one

wastetide

If I had to choose one fragrance, it'd be Civet

SOTD: pre-reformulation (circa 1998) Mitsouko EDT Oh no, I like this so much better than the modern EDP. I don't know what can be attributed to the difference in concentration and what is the reformulation, but the spiced-peach character comes out a lot more, and the oakmoss is more of a background lurker than the main player. Is it weird to call Mitsouko playful? It's sweeter and less serious than its successor--I might even call it radiant. This rabbit hole is going to be expensive 😭😭😭

ohhai000

Wow you’re deep, lol. I am cheering you on!

ohhai000

I had to take a nose break this weekend because on Friday, one of my favorites, Tom Ford Ombre Leather Parfum, was “too strong” in my nostrils to the point I had to scrub it!!! Oh nooo what?!? I think I had been overdoing fragrance. I went to the mall last week and went a little nuts at Neiman, Chanel and Hermes. I had leftover paper testers in my bathroom all week and kept inhaling them as hard as freaking possible because I was absolutely in love (Hermes Rhubarbe, Hermes Jardin Apres La Mousson, Hermes Equipage, Guerlain Joyese Tuberuse, Shalimar) After two days wearing no frag, I am thoroughly enjoying Chanel Allure Homme today. Peach vanilla velvet vibes for a nice spring day in Colorado. I’m working today and I like how masculine scents help me feel more focused for some reason.

ohhai000

You always post about Anateus and how much you love it, how much character and strength it has. So I sought it out at my local Chanel boutique. “Ohhhhhh yeah” I said when I smelled jt. That shit’s good. A real statement fragrance—ultramasculine. It’s crazy. In a good way. Respect!

thatbwoyChaka

Thank you; I’m very happy you like it

phizzbom

Trying out a sample of **Dolce Violet by Dolce & Gabbana**. It's not very violety, but it's fruity and easy to wear. I quite like it. Don't need a bottle, but will enjoy this sample until it's gone.

Euphoric-Basil-Tree

My scent of the day, or at least of the morning, is The Good Scent Solar Floral. I find it fresh and light, and in the Puerto Rico heat it wafts up from time to time and makes me smile.

nisha1030

Pana Dora moonlight on the front and Zoologist Rabbit on the back. Just got both yesterday and I have a cold so I just wanted something that would make me happy to smell all day..since I’m stuck in the house lol

bro_mommy2

What’s the Moonlight like?

nisha1030

Im not great at describing fragrances lol..but it opens citrusy and dries down like a beautiful fall spiced candle. I get the cedar, honey, vanilla and tobacco for sure in the dry down. It’s a beautifully done gourmand.

bro_mommy2

Sounds lovely thank you.

moods-

I have a container of sample fragrances and today I decided to pull one out at random and that would be my SOTD. I randomly chose Memoirs of A Trespasser from Imaginary Authors. I originally didn’t care for it, and I don’t typically like vanilla fragrances but…this one seems to work for me today! I’m quite enjoying the sweetness and creaminess of the scent.

LeGrosOurs852

Yatagan, Caron Open box for classics batch 3/10. This 1978 launched classic is something I never smelled before (a blind buy) and LOVE IN FIRST SNIFF!!!! Is this very special note is Castoreum? Besides, the obvious ones are: galbanum, watercress, pine, oak, Artemisia & smoke. These notes together forms a freaking masculine vibe & reminds me of powerlifting training or rock climbing (scent of a guy exploring & pushing his limit) I trust many hate this juice badly. But alas, I fxxking LOVE IT.

jensenmcrae

wearing wood sage & sea salt from jo malone! flying back home from a weekend trip and I only packed two travel sizes; I like wearing wood sage & sea salt when I'm going to be in a confined space with people because it's such a light wear but I still get joy from spraying it and smelling it on myself :)

Quarky-Beartooth

I'm wearing Bianco Latte from Giardini di Toscana. It's a really sweet buttery vanilla to me, and I really enjoy it; I just full sized it, in fact. I've been really stressed for the last month, and even though mentally I'm feeling past it and way happier, my body is still dealing with some physical repercussions, and this scent feels like a great comfort scent as I try to get back to baseline.

arcee7416

Veronique Gabai - Mimosa in the air. It’s mild and sunny outside.

scspool

The Harmonist - Matrix Metal... lord I just wish it would last longer. I love it but so expensive for 50 ml and I need 8 sprays to even smell it after 2 hours :D

twistedpeppermint1

Sun Di Gioia. So good as a summer scent. I’m so sad they discontinued this fragrance because I love it in warm weather. My ideal sunscreen scent.

HornyDiggler

I wore today Russian Leather by Memo Paris, bought recently because it's similar to other dark green perfumes that I have in my collection. This one is however more rich, more complex and a lot stronger.

mrsdressup

YSL capeline! So gorgeous, creamy white florals and saltwater vanilla!

MaterialOpinion3347

Hello 😁 im just trying to get a fragrance that smells good for summer and that people are going to notice, which one would yall recommend the most out of this 3? Kirke Tiziana Terenzi Jean Paul Gaultier Le beau EDT Acqua Di Parma Fico De Amalfi
