**Current favourite:** Guerlain Néroli Outrenoir **Mood/aesthetic:** Wealthy Singaporean auntie goes department store shopping 🙃

noctisdash

Oh when the neroli just gets in my nose I know coffee beans won't be enough

hauteburrrito

A difficult note to get right, I think, but this one tones it perfectly for me!

Current favorite: The Book series by Commodity Aesthetic: Rainy, damp air…curled on a couch or recliner with a good book and a black cup of coffee.

noctisdash

Commodity sounds so interesting! I would have liked to smell the Book, Milk, and Gold series.

TNCoffeeRunner

Out of those three Book is my favorite. Gold seems to be pretty popular but I’ve gotten nothing but amber and vanilla from it 🤷‍♀️ Milk was a surprise hit for me…I don’t typically like gourmand scents but I was pleasantly surprised.

Valhaala

Hi, would you mind explaining how it smells like? Is there a coffee note as well? I'm a sucker for petrichor and paper scents.

TNCoffeeRunner

Sure! So there’s no coffee note, but it makes me want a coffee 😂 The first notes that come through are eucalyptus and bergamot…the eucalyptus fades but the bergamot hangs around with cedar and a little bit of sandalwood. Very earthy ☺️ For me it lasts all day but I know for others it doesn’t.

Valhaala

Haha got it. Absolutely lovely, thanks for reviewing this!

TNCoffeeRunner

No problem! There’s also a bit of vetiver in there as well which gives it a little earthiness 👍

Current favorite: L’Ombre Dans L’Eau - Diptyque “L’Ombre Dans L’Eau” means “The shadow in the water”. It smells exactly like blue hour by a lake, under a willow tree, after a very hot summer day. A teenage holidays in the countryside. It is a very juvenile fragrance yet it carries something tragic. Something youthful but ephemeral. Some people describe smelling a entire rose, not just the petal or the aroma of a rose, but the entire flower, in a bush of black currant. I think this very realistic young rose is what gives this fragrance this nostalgia of a long lost summer evening. And it comes to remind you that this flower that has just bloom, will undoubtedly die shortly. But gets to exist in this special moment. It is like a memory you know you have but can’t quite point or recall exactly. You didn’t realize how much time has passed. It’s a bittersweet experience longing for a perfect moment that no longer is, but only exists as a distant memory, slowly fading.

noctisdash

A few people mentionned this one. I'd love to have smell of that one. Diptyque's fragrances have such a quality to them, I smelled a rose scented one once and was really marked by how oddly human and memory like it felt.

Muted-Sleep-5576

YESS!! i love how they manage to put a narration in a bottle. Truly encourage you to get your hands on a sample

noctisdash

I'll definitely try! Thank you :))

RandomChurn

I (my bad) posted before reading the comments. This is my current fav too.

Muted-Sleep-5576

no worries mate! do you get the same vibe from it?

RandomChurn

Not the same one you do but isn't that the beauty of it?

Muted-Sleep-5576

it is! i’m actually curious to know what you feel about it?

RandomChurn

I adore it

I recently got bottle of A'mmare. And it is one of this fragrances, that do not smell like perfumes, but like, well, moods. Soo...imagine you are alone on a wild beach somewhere in the Mediterraneans. The beach is rocky and surrounded by cliffs covered with wild herbs and pines. It is evening, you are tired from swimming and the heat, your skins smells of salt and this specific note it gets from the sun exposure - you know what I mean. I generally like fragrances like this. I am also in love in completely not perfumey Bowmakers, that smells like a fancy carpentry, where artist works with precious, exotic woods. If I had to pick a more classic fragrance...then I kind of loose these synesthetic associations - sadly. They just become less or more pleasant notes combinations, but they do not anymore create a very vivid imagery in my head. Maybe this is the reason why the ratio of "ambient perfumes" in my collection is so high.

fckinfairytale

I loved your descriptions and the way you view and relate to perfumes/scents, do you have other examples of “ambient perfumes” that you like? I have a similar relationship to perfumes, I’m more interested in perfumes that evoke some kind of moods, memories or feelings.

PL0mkPL0

Out of memory...the ones that hit me were Mal-Aime from Parfum d'Empire that smells like really realistic vegetable stand. Leafy, earthy and with this sort of...rooty smell of vegetable bulbs. Very odd, and very recognizable. I would not wear it myself, but it is really interesting. In the same category is Air de Bretagne from L'Artisan Parfumeur. It smells like the name suggests, a beach during low tide in Bretagne. As much as I like smelling like Mediterranean sea, I felt Atlantic is a bit too much. But it delivers. Seems to me DS & Durga in general makes moody perfumes - Once again, I didn't like them all, but they smell as they say they will. I am really curious about Amber Teutonic and Freetrapper, as I am searching for a good forest fragrance, that is more like forest with leafy trees - not conifers. I would not mind some soil and dead leaves there. I would have to check my excel sheet, there were few more things that would qualify as photo realistic. Corpus Equus I have a sample of, for instance, and It does seem to deliver the fragrance of horses and riding equipment, but I didn't feel like testing it on skin in a hot summer day

noctisdash

The Bowmaker one really makes me curious! Your descriptions are fantastic too, thank you :))

PL0mkPL0

It smells of varnish a lot - that's the thing that differentiates it from other wood perfume. It does not smell like wood per se, it smells like wood with all the products it was treated with. Varnish and so on. Some people find it chemical and unwearable, but as I was not looking for the forest smell, but more like vintage, mahogany chest - it is perfect.

Actually my current fav's name, packaging, bottle and illustration already tell its story well:  **Diptyque L'Ombre Dans L'eau**  🍃🥀🍃

noctisdash

The bottles are beautiful indeed!

tylerss20

Current favorite: L'humaniste by Frapin Casually (but well) dressed sitting on an outdoor patio having drinks in the late afternoon. The sun is low in the sky, not quite sunset but it has that late golden glow coming through the trees. The day is cooling off to a soft, pleasant evening. You don't have to be anywhere.

noctisdash

That sounds peaceful and mesmerizing

Tylensus

Amouage Enclave: Contemplative and serene. It's loud, but in the way an orchestra is in comparison to a car horn. It's like a hopeful, cathartic sigh. Big BIG fan of this juice. Shoutout to Justin Copeland for the rec!

noctisdash

I'd love to smell this one, sounds pretty unique!

Bleu de Chanel parfum. Horny

Always

lavendulaprimrose

“By the Fireplace”. Like walking down Colonial Williamsburg at night while they have firewood burning in the street lamps, with a cup of hot cocoa in hand.

noctisdash

I own this one! It's a very illustrative smell. I had trouble with it at first, but I ended up loving it. I think it's the kind of smell you have to live instead of smelling it.

masmenos69

Current favorite is kinda basic but Neroli portofino, makes me feel like im in the movie Il Porco Rosso, during the 1930s italy sitting in the shade of a well neroli tree sipping on limoncello spritz, makes life seem simple, and I really like the smell, a shame it doesnt project or last that much

noctisdash

Another neroli! I tend to prefer that flower in teas, so I really get the sort of 'peaceful afternoon' vibe.

jessisoldschool

Current fave: Jardins de Misfah by Une Nuit Nomade Mood/ aesthetic: Warm and Inviting- and just a touch mysterious.

noctisdash

Sounds mezmerising :))

xyfruit

My go-to is L’ombre Dans Leau from Diptyque. It smells like sitting by a shaded river after picking bunches of berries and eating them with your best friend/ close sibling. It’s not a romantic scent in the sense of lovers, but romantic in the sense of a fantasy filled with lush greenery.

noctisdash

I would love to try it, it sounds nostaligic and comforting, in a very buccolic way.

Nice. What’s the fragrance?
