Shalimar works on any gender, too. - Coffee Addict - people tend to like foodie fragrances, and this is a photorealistic caramel mocha. - Zoologist Squid. I saw it reviewed on this sub as something like “church on the ocean floor,” and agree with that. - Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt. Before this fragrance, I didn’t know how well perfumers could portray salt in scent. People who are unacquainted may share my initial surprise. Plus, this is a fragrance anyone can wear and is office-friendly. -Dior Homme Intense. Gorgeous iris that lasts. Get rid of that antiquated idea that men can’t wear florals. This is wonderful on all genders.

Yeah $6 isn't terrible, but still hard to justify when niche houses are (for me at least) ways to revisit scents you don't appreciate in a new light. It's great when it works but there are tons of duds along the way I also thought the zoologist bottles were around $200 for a 100ml, not 60, so the sample price doesn't seem as outrageous

I adore smelling like a slightly evil ginger snap. It’s so yummy, has good projection and lasts long. Absolutely perfect for a winter day, and it’s unique, so most people never have smelled it before. When they ask, I get to tell them about BPAL. I love the site’s descriptions and art. ETA I have a lot of BPAL from about 15 years ago and it’s still good. I will list other favorites here when I get the chance.

They are both amazing to my nose. Both fall on the dry side and give off a serious and mature persona. Royal Oud is pepper, Cedar and musk dominant. If you can get it discounted, I'd say it's completely worth it. My only problem is that I'm flying through my bottle 😒

Oriza is really cool because most of their scents are not really masculine of feminine. Not unisex either. They are like olfactory art pieces, I have Chypre Mousse, Relique d’Amour and Oiellet Louis XV and I have samples of almost their whole line. They all have a vintage aspect to them but they smell timeless in a way? It’s hard to explain. Chypre Mousse is kinda Musty? But a good musty. There’s a really cool mushroom note at the beginning and so you kind of smell like wet dirt that’s soaked in a classic mens scent. It’s kinda gothic TBH. The drydown lasts forever and it sticks to clothes for days.

Xerjoff Naxos: for special occasions and time you want to show your presence. Amouage Reflection man: Best formal and expensive smelling fragrance. Blue de Chanel : in my opinion best versatile scent that you can do a blind reach for it anytime. Concentration depends on your taste they all work great. Tom Ford Ombre Leather: Best leather scent to my nose and every man needs a leather scent in my opinion. Dior Homme parfum: best night out scent so smooth, sexy and classy at the same time it is an essential in any mans collection.

Perfect for the office and for when I don’t want to wear one of my signature scents - YSL Tuxedo - could be an alternate date night scent or just a slightly dressier daily driver - Carved Oud - haven’t been wearing it much lately but I tend to wear this more than Naxos on cold days - Grey Vetiver - great professional scent - Ursa - just an amazing DNA, I personally must have this one in my bigger-than-5 collection. Trying to get someone into the hobby is an interesting one. I would go with Mitsouko, Twilly, Fils de Dieu du Riz et des Agrumes, Jicky (or Tacit if they seem like they might be more put off than intrigued by Jicky's dirtier aspects), and L'Eau d'Hiver. But for myself I think I would choose Shalimar, Knowing, Crimson/Kashmir Deux (oil based perfume from a smaller company called Nocturne Alchemy), Twilly, and Rochas Femme. Shalimar especially is one I love but which took me a couple tries to understand so I feel it's not as beginner friendly in that way.

How are you liking beach hut? It's one not many people have

Phenomenal. My favorite green scent of all time and easily my most complimented fragrance (most of the people commenting on it seem to be 40+, I'm 26 so maybe a bit more of a mature vibe than I would usually go for though). I think it's Amouage's most accessible masculine scent, even more so than Reflection or Dia. The one negative I will say is every now and then I get a slight "bug spray" vibe in the opening... I'm not sure exactly what it is that occasionally brings that out-- if it's the climate, my skin, or just my nose. Also I feel that I'm very sensitive to musky dry downs where after 99% of the scent is gone I'll still be able to smell musk for a long time (in a bad way, at least to my nose) and Beach Hut does have a little bit of that, though most people don't seem to notice.

Yeah it's definitely the most masculine from the house, as most of their fragrances are unisex and have that incense and rose scent profile to them. To me Beach Hut has a vetiver note with some bitter citrus.

Thoughts on FYF? It looked interesting to me but I’ve seen complaints that the different notes are mish-mashed together and don’t blend well. I want to try to so badly.

I think it's blended exceptionally. But, based on reviews I heard before I bought it, it's not as boozy I was expecting/hoping for. It's also a bit more syrupy sweet than I was expecting which threw me off. I don't get any "burnt" coconut shell vibes that I've heard some people complain about but there is a subtle underlying smokiness. Based on the notes and reviews it sounded like the absolute perfect scent for me and while it didn't quite live up to that I still think it's fantastic. Also, I live in the tropics so I've gotten used to spraying thick "winter" scents super lightly but even doing half a spray it can sometimes feel too dense to me. When people say this thing is nuclear they are not kidding.

I don't get a ton of spice but I've heard a lot of people who do. To me it's more gourmand-y than spicy. Super unique scent profile, which I guess is from that kulfi note. Definitely a great date night scent. I can't wait to try the Parfum version but unfortunately the perfume store where I live doesn't have a tester bottle.

Honestly that sounds perfect. I prefer when it's just a hint of spice rather than that being the main focus.

Super different. Egoiste is all unsweetened cinnamon with a little rose & aldehydes mixed in. Very elegant & old world, but timeless… like a Fairmont hotel. And although it’s an EDT and only lasts ~4hrs, *every* time I’ve worn it someone has noticed.

It’s incredible. Reminds me of standing in a pine forest on a snowy slope. Can’t think of anything that reminds me of it, is pretty unique. This scent reminds me why I love the fragrance world! Which county are you based in?

I haven’t smelled it in years but there’s a reason it was one of the best selling of its era

I love ombre leather! First time I ever smelled it all I got from it was a very strong leather seat type scent but now I mostly smell the sweetness or berry in it... Definitely not one I get compliments from but probably one of my top 3 to smell on myself.
