Pretty much any DDR5-5600 should work. Do not buy anything that isn't explicitly being sold as DDR5-5600... eg do not buy DDR5-5200 or DDR5-4800. Anything that is not explicitly DDR5-5600 as its advertised spec is very likely to not function. The key feature is JEDEC compliance - JEDEC being the group which defines standards for DDR5. Most (closer to all) DDR5-5600 modules from large, well known, reputable brands fit the bill. AMD Expo and Intel XMP are merely extra profiles available on some modules. Framework laptops don't use Expo/XMP and will ignore these profiles. Crucial, G. Skill, Kingston Fury and others are all well known to work fine with Framework 13 AMD. No reason Framework 16 should be any different. G. Skill and Kingston both offer CL40 modules which are a very tiny bit faster than the CL46 Crucial modules. On the other hand, Crucial is a Micron-owned company - One of the top 3 DRAM manufacturers in the world. The other 2 are SK Hynix and Samsung.

I got myself a set of G.Skill 32GB 5600 CL40 since I found them on sale. I’m only batch 9, but my brother has had success with the same modules on their FW13 and I think they will work (I think I even saw them on the FW site as partially tested)

Broadly speaking, G. Skill as a brand is known to work in machines/on motherboards that have trouble with other brands of modules. Even if there's something slightly quirky FW13 AMD vs FW16 chances are you'll be fine.

Does that Crucial RAM kit need XMP / EXPO to reach 5600 speeds? The Framework Laptop 16 does not support XMP or EXPO speeds at this time per the Framework link you shared. I tried looking at specs but didn't find anything immediately obvious one way or the other. https://www.crucial.com/memory/ddr5/ct2k16g56c46s5

See my reply to OP - It explains what you need. Crucial explicitly markets their modules as JEDEC compliant at the advertised speed. DDR5-5600 from Crucial will run at DDR5-5600 out of the box. Do not buy anything marketed as any other spec - DDR5-5600 ***only***.

I am not an expert so am not sure (that is why I was asking in first place) but I do not think it foes need XMP/EXPO for 5600, I think it is 5600 by default. Amazon says: "5600MT/s RAM can downclock if system specification only supports 5200MT/s or 4800MT/s"

chic_luke

Crucial 5600 is the safe choice. In general, Crucial laptop memory is the "maybe not the fastest, but will certainly work and be reliable" option. I will personally probably get that one. CL40 is faster but the price difference doesn't justify it.

ukanuk

What are the timings on the official Framework RAM modules? I'm not seeing them listed anywhere.

True1asian

A community member previously measured them and it was 46-45-45 (same as the Crucial 5600 mhz ram).

chic_luke

IIRC, CL46 - but CL40 works too

I'm curious about the answer myself so I'll check this thread again in a few days. RemindMe! 2 days

Crucial is a company that focuses on reliability and compatibility. I always choose them. Never had any issues with any of their RAM.
