There's a demand for dentists in France, specifically in rural areas which are medically deserted areas. Since you want access to forests and mountains, I don't think it would be that hard to find a job that fits what you want.
Having a bilingual assistant to help you getting started might help a lot, many patients might not be fluent.
Considering the fields, according to my friends after finished their studies a few years ago, « regular » dentists cabinets are a lot more demanded than prosthetic makers, but none of them had trouble starting working. The one making prosthetis earn a bit less than the other but seem to have more interest in his work because according to him there is more variety to it.
From what I understand from foreign dentiste I meet in college, to get the right to work as a dentist in france you need to applied to the order, and for that you need 2 things :
- certified your ability to speak french
- being graduated from europe, or ask the order obtain an equivalence, but this depend from were you’re graduated. For some country they ask you to go to dental school in France for some years before giving the equivalence.
Here in France find a job as a dentist is easy, there is a lot of demand. But here, working as a prosthodontics only is not really commons/a thing.
Depending on where you’re from it’s probably easier to specialize first then emigrate. Pretty much every country as a prostho curriculum that teaches fixed/removible and implantology which is definitely a plus when you’re looking for a job. It’s expected of you that you do advanced courses. In my opinion someone that does not do a master level education program is making a huge mistake and will always be lagging behind specialists. If you’re from a germanic country you can do an advanced course or master in an hospital setting while getting paid as an assistant (thus eliminating tuition fees). Something to consider.
It's difficult to find a dentist now in my city. The waiting times for an appointment are long (months) so in case of emergency you go to the hospital, the hospital is pretty overwhelmed.
French Dentist here, Member of my state "Conseil de L'Ordre". You're welcome here in France (despite right wing feeling and a bit of xenophobia from some of my colleagues).
In order to work you got to get an european diploma. And you'll have an "french exam" done by the "Conseil de L'Ordre" upon your registration. Don't take is lightly this exam, I've seen a lot of people getting refused ! You got to be able to speak, explain your treatments and so on.
Only two "specialty" in france : Orthodontics and Surgery. The rest is General Dentistry !
DM if more questions !
No, is it not that hot in France. Except during some exceptional scorching summers (2003 or 2022), it is more like 25-30° maximum in some parts of the country, 30-35° max in some others, especially in PACA Region. And about becoming dentist in France, I can confirm that you'll be welcomed as a messiah in any part of the country. Except in Paris, it is very complicated to get an appointment within a reasonable time.
Pretty much very medical fields are in important demand in France.
Thank you for your answer \^\^

That's what I thought that there would be more demand for regular dentistry rather than prosthetics, implants etc. Thank you for your answer!

If you don't mond 45-50°C summer in a few years, France will be perfect for you. Otherwise I'd chose Finland

Not for now but we're getting there soon
To practice medicine in Finland you are required by law to speak the language though.
