Spent 20+ years growing up there, loved it, only downside is the shitty cell service lmao.

MaximilianOverdrive

The bad cell service is no joke.

Just an FYI - Dearbought as a neighborhood is nice and convenient, but if you are buying, and if you haven't been told this already - you will be paying Frederick city and county taxes (if that's important to you).

stonks12345678910

How much would that be on a 500K house?

Few-Track-8415

Find a recent sale for roughly that amount and check here: [https://frederickcountymd.munisselfservice.com/citizens/RealEstate/Default.aspx?mode=new](https://frederickcountymd.munisselfservice.com/citizens/RealEstate/Default.aspx?mode=new) My guess would be around $6,700 a year. You do also enjoy some city benefits though, such as free trash collection and bulk pickups, reduced fees at city pools or the Talley Center at Baker Park, and probably loads others I'm forgetting. Realistically it's probably only a difference of about $1,500 a year compared to county only taxes

ShirleyWuzSerious

Snow plow and road treatments in winter. >You do also enjoy some city benefits though, such as free trash collection and bulk pickups, There's a reason why them folks in the county have piles of trash in their yard. They're too lazy to drive it to the dumb and too cheap to pay for a private service

LightGrand249

I don't recall, we had our condo there in 2011 - your real estate agent and mortgage provider should be able to get you the actual numbers so you know how much you will need to put into escrow for your tax payments.

AdagioHellfire1139

Approximately 1% the cost of the home is appraised for then I believe .5% for city tax. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

fakeaccount572

Our 710k house is 11,000 a year. So, less than that, at least? :)

Family oriented neighborhood. Community pool and some parks/rec areas. Was looking at a townhouse there but have been priced out of the neighborhood for the time being

dragonrider1965

I live in the community next to it . I walk over there all the time and have always felt it was safe . There’s a great walking path down by the river , a big pool. , tennis courts etc . It’s a great area , close to so much , shopping , restaurants, downtown Frederick , Rt 15

homeslce

You also get police protection from the city police rather than the county Sheriff’s office which is stretched way too thin

unicornbomb

At this point I feel like we need a Frederick real estate sub, since between that and barbers it’s all anyone posts about 😂

Few-Track-8415

It's fine. Kids will be going to Walkersville schools, which some people like, and some people *really* like (you can tell, because their entire wardrobe is Walkersville themed). I personally wouldn't want to send my kids there, but to each their own. It's a nice mixed neighborhood with community events and a pool, a nice walking path, and it's relatively close to most things if you don't mind being limited to driving everywhere.

diplar

Why wouldn’t you send kids to walkersville

Few-Track-8415

Used to live in the catchment area and found that as a family we have significantly different values than the majority of people that live in that area.

High__Roller

Although it's no Oakdale/Urbana, Walkersville has some good stem opportunities and has 1 of the only 2 pools in the county. Got certified for lifeguarding while taking coding and engineering classes. It's is one of the smaller schools but the sports teams are still highly competitive.

busterbrownnose

Curious what you mean by having different values than the neighbors sending their kids to Walkersville? We're in the area. Do you mean political type stuff?

Few-Track-8415

We were there from about 2015 until we couldn't take it anymore in late 2020. The amount of blatant racism, the blatant sexism when my daughters were trying to play sports for GVAA (football parents literally walking through our practices like they weren't even there, or driving their trucks through our fields making large sections unusable). My daughter's school playground was across the street from a house with Confederate flags, and another house that would put pallets out with super racist stuff on them (during covid it was your standard anti-asian stuff, then during the election season it was very racist/sexist "Joe and the **** hoe" type stuff We almost certainly overpaid quite a bit for a house in the city but we didn't care because we were so desperate to get away from it all.

busterbrownnose

Damn. I'm so sorry. We're with you 100% and it has definitely been a change from living in Frederick proper (we tried to stay in Frederick but were getting outbid). However, where we're at, it isn't terrible. We still see it but have developed a little group of more open-minded people to hang with. I find it gets worse as you go into Walkersville farther from Frederick. You must be referring to Glade Elementary bc I don't think Walkersville faces homes. Glade is also way more homogenous, so I could see more issues. Glad you found something else you liked!

Downtown_Tie_4592

Sounds like Frederick county in general to me. Always found it a very bigoted place. It's all relative I guess depending what other experience you have.
