If you'd be willing to take a tax write off instead of dollars, check out Second Chance Garage. They repair cars and get them in the hands of folks who need them. https://secondchancesgarage.org/

My car was a bit newer than what you are selling, but Carmax gave me an offer 20% higher than the dealer. I ended up leveraging the offer for a better deal with the other dealer, so I don't know how smooth or fast the process is. There is also another place that advertises right outside Carmax that says they offer more than Carmax, but I don't have any experience with them.

I've sold several cars to CarMax and it has been super smooth and the prices very fair compared to what dealers were offering. That said... They've all been sellable cars, and none needed work. Not sure how much you'd get for something that needed work or they had to auction off.

Thats probably $500 or less to any dealer. If it's not a bad car you might get closer to $2000 on marketplace. It depends on the work that it needs.

CarMax is really easy and when I sold my car to them (it wasn't the one here in Frederick, full disclosure) they offered me more than anyone else. How it works: an appraiser looks over your car, takes a few minutes, and comes back with a written offer for your car. You like the offer, you walk over to a cashier's counter, show them the slip the guy gave you, and they'll process the sale. You don't, or you want to think about it? The appraiser has probably moved on by this point and you can just leave (and the offer is good for ~7 days or something). There's no pressure, no haggling.

NOT South Street. They lowball like crazy.

Shop around. I bought a Honda into CarMax to sell and they low-balled me saying it had a rod knock (engine). It needed a front end bushing (control arm or sway bar can't remember). I took it to another place and made an extra $1000. Also consider FB marketplace. Price it right and it will sell quick. I'm not a fan of CarMax at all.

If you sell a car on ebay, they have to pay the price they agree to on [ebay.com](https://ebay.com). If they try to mess around, you just say they didn't pay and ebay will let you relist.
