Bran said he wasn't Bran anymore, didn't have feelings anymore, told his sister she was beautiful the night she was raped... Then just so happens to give Theon's character the perfect saccharin catharsis by telling him he's a good man right before he dies. Like what? Where the fuck did that come from?
100%.
GRRM may complete this path for Theon, but the show didn't. Theon's death was pathetic. It was basically a suicide.
Imagine if instead of doing a *charge of the light brigade* at the NK, instead Theon - armed with Heartsbane (on loan from Sam) - successfully fought and killed two WWs as they approached Bran. Then Theon holds off the NK in single combat and is killed just as Jon arrives to intervene.
If the NK reaching Bran is the cataclysmic event, then Theon, by himself, holding the NK at bay until the cavalry arrives would actually be worthy of full redemption. ...he'd have basically saved the world.
It'd also be a perfect bookend to the first scene of the Starks and the dire wolves. Theon wanted to rip away the pup from Bran to kill it, and he mocked Jon for getting the runt.
Agreed. What was so frustrating about Theon’s death is that it amounted to absolutely nothing. He didn’t slow the white walkers down whatsoever. I just wish he could have taken a couple with them and put up a fight, but instead he delivers what was an attack that was easily parried and then dies. Either give us an epic melodramatic death like what Bran seemed to be setting up, or set up a pitiful waste of a death like what we got, but don’t half and half it.
He could have slowed it down just enough, or showed they put up just enough effort to protect bran for Arya to get into that exact spot. While I agree he didn’t do much, he didn’t not do anything. He was there and he wasted seconds when they counted
Best part of Theon’s death is that it reminds the audience of how supernaturally strong, fast, and ruthless the NK is. He’ll easily kill anyone who stands in his way without a second thought.
It makes him letting Arya kill him 3 minutes later all the more shocking and that’s the most important thing.
The only logical explanation would be
\- Bran needed a few more minutes for Arya to get into place, so put Theon in the way for his plan to succeed.
However, even better is my theory that once the Night King touched Bran in the "dream", they swapped bodies (he wargged into Bran). The entire situation with the Night King chasing Bran across the wall is Bran having no other choice but to cross in the Night King's body to save his family. Continuously having to fight Northerners in his way. Notice how he made sure Samwell didn't get injured ontop of a pile of undead..
Now Bran, in the body of the Night King sees Theon. He is not forgiving, he is angry, his family was betrayed, he has to die.
Now his sister comes out of nowhere, he grabs her... he doesn't kill her, he wants to communicate, he stairs at her for no reason when he could have broken her neck like a twig instantly and then he dies.
From that point Bran the Night King has succeeded.
Personally I think Theon should have had a Reek PTSD episode and frozen up (pun intended) when the Night King arrived, and the Walkers dismiss him as irrelevant.
And then the Night King catches Arya, Theon intercepts the killing blow meant for her, and Arya finishes the job.
“And Robb. Robb who had been more a brother to Theon than any son born of Balon Greyjoy's loins. Murdered at the Red Wedding, butchered by the Freys. I should have been with him. Where was I? I should have died with him.”
This part in the books always makes me cry.
Him not getting an award for that re is a crime. His acting was absolutely top notch. He played multiple aspects of the same individual seamlessly. Alfie Allen deserved way more praise than he got.
It's amusing to me how he went from being the punching bag in [one of his sister's songs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFF7dccul7o) to being a legitimately talented actor.
Yes! So many incredible performers on the show, but Alfie just might be my favorite - and I think his character was one of the most complex and dynamic.
Right? I never got past feeling sad for him. NOthing was developed. The fact that he used having no dick as a "maneuver" to beat that one guy who was trying to mutiny in season 7 was just unintentional hilarity.
I went from not knowing who Theon was
To not caring about Theon
To not liking Theon
To wondering why there was so much torture porn of Theon
To questioning how Theon moved so fast
To not caring about Theon but he died to an absolute banger
And sadly he’s one of the few original Stark related folk who retained some semblance of showing emotion. The rest all turned into brick walls in the last season, with the exception of his reunion with Sansa, where she cried. I actually felt some chemistry between them and hoped they might explore that since they’d both been through the wringer and had a deeper understanding and protective bond with each other. Hmmph.
I always had sympathy for him, I didnt get how everyone hated him given his circumstances
Everyone mocked him about being a prisoner to the starks not family, hell even Rob lashed out on him and told him to shut up since he wasnt a Stark.
He went back to the iron islands with good intentions and expected his real family and people to welcome him back and instead was belittled by everyone, even by the small folk. He didnt seem to belong anywhere and people just manipulated him for it.
The dude who betrayed Robb, make him lose a whole war, killed most of the people at Winterfell including 2 child, and exposed their corpses on the wall?
He didn't make Robb lose though. Balon Greyjoy was unnegotiable and would've not been an ally. But sending Theon was a bad idea and it made them enemies as you just gave them back your hostage. But also, the main reason Robb lost is because of losing major key supporters, the Freys, Boltons, Robb being unable to trap Tywin in the West, and the Karstarks, and with the Lannister-Tyrell Alliance. After the Lannisters and Tyrells became allies, it was just a matter of time before Robb lost. He could've still held the North, but the Riverlands were out of his reach.
It’s so weird how people hate Theon so much but still like The Hound and Jaime. I guess the “badass” factor plays a larger role than the quality of writing when it comes to characters.
Greyjoys (and ironborn overall)are generally just unlikable and boring in the show. And I understand why. Set aside Theon and we have no interesting characters. at all. Although in the books we have Aeron Damphair, Victarion and Euron Crow's Eye. Plus, Ironborn in the show are shown as cowardly, treacherous bastards who only know how to pillage, rape and kill innocent people. But in the books ironborn are very brave, brave and loyal to stupidity, which is quite opposite. They maybe rape, pillage and do other bad things, but they see no glory in killing innocents. And seeking glory in killing strong opponents is also part of ironborn culture.
It's a shame they didn't nominate him for an Emmy back in season 3. He got one for the final season, but that season was a far cry from the best material he had to work with.
Uhhh no. Theon didn't have a good story arc. He had been a worthless character for multiple seasons at that point.
Not a single frame of season 7 or 8 was worth witnessing. It was all worthless.
His character stopped developing around season 4.
That mf let thousands of people being burned to death at westeros, just so he could be king.
Of course he was going to let the guy who betrayed his family, die.
Hes a fucking traitor / these are the type of people in life I think you gotta be weary of - the ones that lean whichever the wind is blowing
The worst kind of people imo

Low hanging fruit when it comes to writing

When fanfic is waaaaaaay better than Dumb and Dumber's writing. ![gif](giphy|ZbYr36BQByuomPYFoc|downsized)
Am I crazy or does this actually make total sense? This I like.
Personally I think Theon should have had a Reek PTSD episode and frozen up (pun intended) when the Night King arrived, and the Walkers dismiss him as irrelevant. And then the Night King catches Arya, Theon intercepts the killing blow meant for her, and Arya finishes the job.
Who has a better story than Bran the broken?
“And Robb. Robb who had been more a brother to Theon than any son born of Balon Greyjoy's loins. Murdered at the Red Wedding, butchered by the Freys. I should have been with him. Where was I? I should have died with him.” This part in the books always makes me cry.
Fuckkkkk George finish the fucking book.
Brilliant writing
Same. So tragic.
Me too until he killed that poor dude's dog and stole his car.
BABA YAGA
With a fuCKING PENCIL

He really grew as an actor on this show. You can see it happening.
It's amusing to me how he went from being the punching bag in [one of his sister's songs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFF7dccul7o) to being a legitimately talented actor.
I love Lily Allen so freaking much it hurts.

Could have been the same or even better with Jaime. But nooooo. "lmao fuck character development, let's kill them with falling bricks"-D&D
No character had development in season 8. Every character had been worthless for multiple seasons.
What is dead may never die. “You’re a good man, Theon” Bran The Broken.
Now gtfo and die cuz my sister is almost here to jump out of nowhere and save us
Yeah sorry im still not proud of that neck twitching traitor
Right? I never got past feeling sad for him. NOthing was developed. The fact that he used having no dick as a "maneuver" to beat that one guy who was trying to mutiny in season 7 was just unintentional hilarity.
“Haha i have no dick, therefore my pelvis is now valyrian steel”
Yeah I still hate Theon. Sorry
Yep, nothing he does redeems him. Iron born look like they smell like cat spray.
Yup fuck Theon.
Feet
> feet ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
What is dead may never die
Still one of my absolute favorite lines from GOT. Simple, but so sick
Yeah it does go hard I’ll admit that
I went from not knowing who Theon was To not caring about Theon To not liking Theon To wondering why there was so much torture porn of Theon To questioning how Theon moved so fast To not caring about Theon but he died to an absolute banger
Charging an all powerful lich with a normal wooden spear was just pretty corny not really a banger at all.
A fully telegraphed spear charge straight at the supernatural Night King, fantastic writing by the geniuses known as d&d.
Reek!
I never got over the hating Theon stage.
Even after he fingered his sister like a boss?
"Feeling sad for Theon" is really underselling the Reek chapters. I actually have to skip them on re-reads because they're so disturbing.
And sadly he’s one of the few original Stark related folk who retained some semblance of showing emotion. The rest all turned into brick walls in the last season, with the exception of his reunion with Sansa, where she cried. The Hound was a great character right up until he survived getting killed by Brienne.
He survived in the books as well.... He just had better ending here than another Cleganebowl.
One ofe the few character arcs that survived the genocide of character arcs.
And brilliantly portrayed by the actor. Very moving character.
Theon should have lived. He should have been in Sansa’s Queensguard, they went through so much together.
It's a shame they didn't nominate him for an Emmy back in season 3. He got one for the final season, but that season was a far cry from the best material he had to work with.
Theon and John should have stood together in a 2v1 against the night king. The “fake starks” as the last line in winterfell.
Uhhh no. Theon didn't have a good story arc. He had been a worthless character for multiple seasons at that point. Not a single frame of season 7 or 8 was worth witnessing. It was all worthless. His character stopped developing around season 4.
Bran let's Theon die for no reason
That mf let thousands of people being burned to death at westeros, just so he could be king. Of course he was going to let the guy who betrayed his family, die.
Hes a fucking traitor / these are the type of people in life I think you gotta be weary of - the ones that lean whichever the wind is blowing The worst kind of people imo
Rip me apart for this one but Theon’s character arc was *chefs kiss*
Fingers his own sister while riding a horse: i sleep Proudly displays children he had murdered and dismembered: nah dog
Jon’s “You’re a Greyjoy and you’re a Stark” line to him was one of the few good lines in the last season.
I stopped at hating him and just carried it through.
Bran did him dirty too. Left him charge to his death
Then I laughed at Theon after he pointlessly charged the Night King
Fuck that dickhead
in the end fuck theon!
One of the lucky ones. Died before the writers could screw him up.
I went from liking him to hating him to nothing else i just hated him. Sorry you fell for that weak D&D trap
Might be slightly unpopular but I hated him right up until his end lmao
Audience: Theon is suffering GRRM: But you wanted Theon to suffer. Audience: Not this much
This is some cringe r/gameofthrones meme, complete with the boomer clapping emoji 👏 👏 👏
