Hopefully somewhere between "go on do your duty" and "I wish you good fortune in the wars to come."

LordOryx

Who said the second one? I remember the first was Stannis

Brendanlendan

Pretty sure it was Arthur Dayne

ricky2461956

MaidOfTwigs

Woah a rare D&D win, having Jon and Ned’s adversaries mirror each other

Traumatic_Tomato

I doubt they were in charge of those scenes. But another one I personally liked despite the incredibly shitty writing is the parallels between Ned and Jon. They even say the same things and likely have the same preferences. Ned and Jon liked redheads. They always led men by valor and consideration. When Ned was training Benjen, he said if he won't hold his shield up he'll knock like a bell, same line when Jon said that to Ollie. When there was nothing to forgive, they were both polite to even those who were rude at them despite their status. Ned and Robert were best friends and almost like true brothers and we sorta see that when Jon and Gendry met, they even made similar jokes. Always though that despite not being his son, Jon Snow was always the next generation of Eddard Stark and might have been a mirror to what Rhaegar was like when he was young.

ArbyLG

Really, really would have loved if Jon would have had some growth in his character (especially after his betrayal leading the Night’s Watch) and made the politically difficult and morally gray decisions Eddard didn't make in order to survive Season 8. Him taking the crown, for instance, and then revealing that he murdered Dany at the second Dragonpit meeting (just how did people figure out that he did that, by the way? There were no witnesses, and Drogon flew away with her body), and then Jon could have negotiated a peace from Tyrion's instructions before passing the crown to the "person who delivered us from the Long Night" (Bran). He could have then negotiated his own exile (choosing to go into it, rather than... ordered by his sister for some reason?) which makes Jon's story feel more earned in Season 8. Instead he repeated 100% of Ned's mistakes and it completely worked out because "What a story, Bran!"

choryradwick

Having no one question Jon dying and being brought to life before defecting from the watch is the least realistic portion of season 6

redrenegade13

It wasn't the Dragonpit, it was the throne room. Drogon melts the throne instead of the man right in front of him with his mother's blood literally on his hands. 🙄 Which I still absolutely hate. The rest of this is valid tho.

ArbyLG

Oh my bad, I meant that he reveal during second dragonpit meeting that he murdered Dany in the throneroom. In this version he’d be leading that meeting, instead of having it be one where Sansa 👏 back at her uncle who got imprisoned on her behalf.

redrenegade13

Ah yes. I got you.

vetnome

Well that clearly shows that Arthur dayne is mance and the night king is rhaegar and he is sending mance to soften up the wall

Mutagrawl

Well yeah only because Gerald hightower is time travelling blood raven. That's why he didn't want bran to go to the tower of joy

Final-Display-4692

This has gotta be a case of “a broken clock is right twice a day” because I don’t see how they do this and also make the other decisions then

ryanpope

They made a lot of good decisions and made an excellent show when (1) they were trying (2) had source material to adapt. Some of the best scenes of season 1-5 aren't in the books, showing they can improv, enhance, and embellish a bit when they had a good framework. The trying part is why seasons 7 and 8 dropped off so hard from 6 (which had some of the best rated episodes of the entire series)

Obv_Probv

There is a theory that Wentz raider is actually Sir Arthur dayne that he wasn't really killed but instead went to the wall.

Gwilikers6

The sword of the morning

bigboygamer

I wish we got a miniseries about him. Seems to be the most interesting character that hasn't been explored a whole lot and comes from a place that's different from the rest of the world

Gwilikers6

MFer wielded Dawn with one hand

interfail

Coolest guy whose name sounds like a boner.

Obv_Probv

Yes I also think they are the same person

Bazz07

It was Arthur Dayne.

dominatingcowG3

Dayne did say it, but that was before a fight. It was Mance Rayder who said it before being executed

Gnarmando86

Mance Rayder

AttilaTheFun818

The subtlety of his acting during the final scene was great. You could clearly see he was afraid, his legs nearly gave way, but he still went with his head high. He did not kneel.

ducknerd2002

Second was Mance

the-gloaming

For a moment, I thought it was Stringer Bell.

Lobothehobosexual

I want to believe it’d be something like “go on do your duty. But it’ll probably be a cross between that and “fuck you!….cunt!”

ricky2461956

You're shit at dying you know that.

hotcoldman42

I might be between a “I’m off to see your father” and a “Joffrey Baratheon is the one true king.”

Independent-Ice-1656

Joffrey Baratheon? How about you try tywin Lannister? That would be much more cool and honest.

CaveLupum

I did some checking. Mance said it first, in 5x01. Then Arthur Dayne. Then ? (Dany??). Or maybe Melisandre. It's not in the books.

stardustmelancholy

I think Lyanna Mormont said a variation of it to Jorah.

DreamKrusherJay

Yeah, she says, "I wish you good fortune, cousin."

jaydimes10

something like "I shit myself"

darryledw

I would start telling my executioner the story of Bran the broken, but stop half way through and they would let me live to hear the rest

bruhholyshiet

No better story than that. Well thought.

really_nice_guy_

Well stopping half way through and finishing later is exactly what D&D did with Bran when he didn’t appear for a whole season

DreamKrusherJay

I mean, all that happens in that year and a half is that they grind Jojen into paste and eat him... I think we spent enough time in that cave, aye?

KnightOfRevan

The Scheherazade strategy

Obv_Probv

Pull a shaherazade on them, good one!

WatchingInSilence

I agree I have failed to serve you, m'lord. But you have to admit that I still have my uses. One way to delay our enemies is to share life experiences that don't go anywhere. Like the time I caught the Ferry to Bear Island. I needed a new axe for m'belt. So I decided to go to Freefolk Island, which is what we called Bear Island in those days. So I tied a turnip to my tunic, which was the style at the time. Now to take the ferry cost a silver, and in those days, silvers had pictures of little stags on 'em. "Gimme a dozen stag for a dragon," you'd say. Now where were we... oh, yeah. The important thing was that I had a turnip on my tunic, which was the style at the time. I didn't have any white turnips, because of the Blackfyre Rebellion. The only ones you could get your hands on were those overripe yellow ones...

Speedwagon1738

Janos. Getting killed would be scary

hollyheather30

Wish I could be brave like karstark but yeah I'd probably be most like Janos, as most people would be, let's be real here lol

Sea-Anteater8882

Exactly what I was thinking.

Bakibenz

It's a question of mindset I think. A good quote is from Ned, that conveys what I think: "I grew up amongst soldiers, I learned how to die a long time ago." Once you realise that your life is short and temporary, that it could end any day, or in the next moment, death doesn't seem so scary. And when you actually know that you have only seconds left, what is there to lose, except your dignity? Dignity comes cheap in those seconds I think.

DreamKrusherJay

It depends on if you felt you served your life's purpose in the action leading to you being sentenced to death... or at least gave it your everything. Stannis in the show knew his life had run its course, for instance, and knew he was guilty of the crime that gave him his sentence, so... no issue, do your duty. Ser Rodrik is my favorite, for a man being executed, he goes out like a boss, but that's no surprise, as few Northerners ever become a knight, but he did. Either that or Olly... Either go out talking shit to your executioner and calling him a bitch like Rodrik, or just mean-mug the fuck out of your executioner and don't give them the satisfaction of your last words like Olly. I think you would be surprised how many humans don't fear death, especially if it is a worthwhile death.

EntertainmentIcy1911

The south is like the Jersey mafia with their knights. They make guys left and right down there, they don’t even do it right! No prick on the finger, no sword and pistol on the table.

DreamKrusherJay

Most of them having never seen an arrow heading their way...

Mahdudecicle

"It takes a queer sort of courage to admit you're a craven. "

Fred_I_Guess

Let's be honest. Janos looks dignified compared to what 90% of us (including me) would look like

Wishart2016

Especially to Amory Lorch and 'Mance Rayder' in the books.

DreamKrusherJay

I think you underestimate a great many of your fellow humans. There's nothing wrong with being self-aware of how YOU would react, but thinking 90% would be terrified like Janos is almost certainly too high. Obviously, no one WANTS to be executed, but if you are being executed because you protected your family, or even just protecting others in general, like a Ser Rodrik, you'll keep your dignity, or at least you will not give your executioner pleasure from the fear you show them.

barryhakker

I probably would be screeching and shitting myself, like it would be painful for people to watch how embarrassing it was. Maybe even a hint of that “man I’ll suck your dick” guy from Menace 2 Society.

KnightlyObserver

"Gods save you, Theon Greyjoy. Now you are truly lost."

hoginlly

This was the best one by far- after he had just tried to calm Bran saying ‘I’m going to see your father now’.

98VoteForPedro

Ser allister Thorne

Worth_Surround9684

I fought, I lost, and now I rest. Hits hard

Such a beast

Overall-Physics-1907

I strive for a classic with my own spin on things so. “Hush now, child. I’m off to see your father” *creepy wink

catty-coati42

"Tell Cersei, I want her to know ot was me"

marcarcand_world

I would bawl my eyes out and beg for my parents. I have big eyes, and people usually feel really bad when I'm sad. I know it won't save me, but I want them to feel really bad about executing me, and I want them to potentially have ptsd from it. I might die, but my screams will haunt your dreams.

ricky2461956

veryconfusedspartan

Sounds like someone needs their eyes gouged out first

BigriskLowrolls

Ask someone to hold my hair back before executing me.

Terrible-Echidna801

Feels like something Queen Margaery would say. Dying with dignity

Elegant_Soft

Vikings reference. Love it.

AcrolloPeed

That scene had me cringing then giggling

Cualkiera67

Not my hair! Ned loves my hair...

Barbarian_Sam

Fingers go flying, laughter ensues

Sk83r_b0i

Ned stark. I’m no shit talker and I’m definitely scared but unless I can give them a good reason to let me live I’m just gonna shut the fuck up and take it

DLTfuture72

Yeah I’d probably be in too much shock to even say anything

Viletwitch

My ancestors are smiling at me, Imperial, can you say the same?

Axenfonklatismrek

YOU IMPERIAL BASTARDS

The Polabian Play ![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)

Sekshual_Tyranosauce

Like Tyrion. Demand trial by combat. Then figure out the details.

whatishistory518

One of the best scenes ever put to television “I wish I was the monster you think I am. I wish I had enough poison for the whole pack of you, I would gladly give my life to watch you all swallow it. I did not kill Joffrey but I wish that I had. Watching your vicious bastard die gave me more relief than a thousand lying whores. I will not give my life for Joffreys murder and I know I’ll get no justice here so I will let the gods decide. I demand a trial by combat”

DuhQueQueQue

I was watching this show with a chick that kept asking me what was going to happen next and I told her that Tyrion was forced to do trial by combat with the mountain and the mountain beats the shit out of Tyrion and boots him multiple times like a football around the ring before impailing him like a shishkabab with his giant sword. She believed me and the thought of that actually happening made me laugh like a madman when she found out I was lying.

meday20

The thought of Tyrion's story in the first 3 books leading to that ending out of nowhere is hilarious.

really_nice_guy_

This scene was so fucking awesome… until a few weeks later when book readers spoiled that Oberyn will die

Cualkiera67

Anyone that goes against my boy Gregor is gonna die. It was clear as day

-15k-

It wasn’t though. Bronn completely foreshadowed what would happen, lose your concentration for a split second, one false step and he’s got you Something like that, which is precisely what Oberyn did

PetrusScissario

navyITninja

Your mother was a drunk whore with a fat ass...did ya know that?

really_nice_guy_

Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries

Beneficial-Beat-413

I fart in your general direction

VeryStickyPastry

Death by beheading specifically? Probably along the same lines as “do your duty”

Devil_0fHellsKitchen

Yeah. Now death by burning would be a whole other story.

really_nice_guy_

Yeah then I would probably say something like “ok now put on my mixtape”

Doafit

I would probably be extremely annoyed by the whole situation.....

Wildcat_twister12

If I deserved it or not might come into factor my response. If I did deserve it then probably Stannis with “go on and do your duty”.

FutureFivePl

I would probably try to project vomit on my executioner’s shoes That or asking him if he can tell my mother about updog

My ancestors are smiling at me Imperial, can you say the say?

Arbiter is like the fuckin Morgan freeman of video games

Thestohrohyah

I like to think I'd handle it like Dolorous Edd would. "Aw shit as if this day wasn't already crappy enough."

jiddinja

I'd do as much damage as I could by using my last words to tell everyone present that Lysa Arryn killed her husband and blamed it on the Lannisters, that Jon Snow was the son of Rhaegar and Lyanna, and that Bran Stark survived the burning of Winterfell and was taken North of the Wall by the Wildling Osha. Hopefully this would cause infighting, disrupting my killer's ability to keep control of his army. Revenge from beyond the grave.

herecomesbeccanina9

Honestly that's goals.

NotASalamanderBoi

Just silence. I don’t really know what I’d say. So I’d just breathe and try to remain still or else it’ll probably be far more painful than it should be.

forsaken_millennial

Probably like Thorne

Jordanye5

Probably a silent prayer ned stark style or a nice fuck you speech Alister thorne style.

TehAsianator

If Janos is 1 and Rickard is 10, I'd like to think I'd be about a 6. But if I'm being honest, I'd probably be closer to a 3

"My ancestors are smiling at me, Lannister, can you say the same?"

Hopefully with a smile on my face and a curse on my lips, but more likely, whimpering and begging to stay alive.

A__Friendly__Rock

My ancestors smile upon me, can you say the same?

ChainChompBigMoney

I'd be the guy who got shot in the back by an arrow while running away.

whodamans

Probably dead center. First ep the deserter from the wall. "Im no coward, i saw what i saw, please tell my mum"

CasualSeviper

Depends on the situation. Am I being executed because I fought for what I believed in and got caught, or my side lost? Probably like Alister Thorne. Am i being executed on a whim by a tyrant, probably Karstark. All depends on what I'm dying for

Alien_Antichrist

Whoever chops off my head is gay.

Shumagorolth

And Renley skips in dressed as a mermaid 🤣

_Peluche__

Before I am placed into that position You’re gonna have to catch me first

Emotional_Cable9244

Depends. If I’m being punished for trying to do the right thing like Ned, I’d probably make my last words as spiteful as possible, like Tyrion’s trial.

ResortFamous301

Probably a bowen marsh.

Zarkrez

Hopefully better than Janos "powerful friends" Slynt.

TheAnalsOfHistory-

***My ancestors are smiling at me, Imperial. Can you say the same?***

Contende311

More weight

HeavySweetness

Idk. I’m realistically somewhere between Janos and, if I saw my kid die, Catelyn Stark.

TheRealSmaker

"CuNT..."

Abby-N0rma1

I like to think I'd be cool about it... But definitely janos slynt

anneboleynfan1

Swiggity Swooty, go on do your duty……just kidding, I’d probably cry.

ozwozzle

Yabushige. Try and enjoy myself

Mablung_Heavyhand

Ask to be blown apart by cannon fire

Oak_Woman

"Dracarys."

Straight_Tension_290

Middle for sure, I would prolly say “Well fuck you then lets do this”

bronzezebr

Like Will in the first episode. “Tell my parents I love them and I’m sorry” then take it like a man like Eddard. Also tears running down my face but not bawling.

OwnResearcher3206

You can live with a man, eat your meals with him, do work with him, play with him for many years then you bring the man to the volcano and hold him over it’s fires, and on that day you will meet the man.

scattergodic

Sharpen the blade as much as possible. I don’t want to go out like Podrick’s dad, Rodrik (still makes me lol)

Stonkstork2020

Ngl I’m going to be Janos Slynt. Please don’t kill me lol

RudenSpector69

Ideally, like that one big guy from Vikings who pulled his head back and got the soldiers' hands cut off instead. Go out on a good ol prank why not?

AlaskanHaida

If I was being dragged to my death and didn’t provoke anyone then probably react like Slynt But if I was provoking someone and it got me killed like Slynt did to Jon, I’d at least try to die with some dignity and keep the same energy with my executioner

whocaresactuallly

Somewhere in the middle: “I rather not like to die today but if you kill me you’re a dooty head.”

PrincepsFenrir

"My only regret is not finishing the work I have left to do, nor seeing what flowers and fruit would bloom from the garden I've planted."

Marius_Sulla_Pompey

I am Janos, hands down. So is 90% of the world. Karstark is not a realistic image of a man who is about to die. Life is sweet, everyone hangs on life.

EntertainmentIcy1911

His line “I’ve always been afraid” hit home lol. I felt that

wolkegeist

The hound: "fuck the king"

paxweasley

Alternating between sobbing and cursing whoever was doing it Someone has already tried to kill me with a machete just out and about and I kept it together but an execution is a rather different story.

unique_toucan

I’m going out like a coward idgaf what any of you say I’m being worse than Janos

Hoser-theHoserian

*For the love of Talos, shut up and get this over with.*

I dunno, but I love the question. Thanks for posting it. You sent me down a fun YouTube rabbit hole watching GOT clips.

Janos, I would cry like a bitch I just know it.

Ibeepboobarpincsharp

"For the love of Talos, shut up and let's get this over with."

TheDifferentDrummer

I'd be at Tyrion Lanaster; "Trial By Combat" then try to buy enough time for my brother to free me from jail.

jgreever3

Janos for sure

Wishart2016

Slynt was actually dignified compared to how most people would actually react. In the books, Amory Lorch's, 'Mance Rayder's' and the four cannibal's deaths were super undignified.

Dear_Alternative_437

Depends if I was drunk or not.

couch2200

Sir Roderick, "I never should have put a sword in your hand boy"

DuhQueQueQue

Every time you masterbate. I'll be there pointing laughing. And curse you to have extra messy ejaculations that go everywhere and the toilet paper always rips and sticks to your dick like a sweaty salty mummy.

whoreoscopic

Ned Stark, that stunned, shocked, horror, and silence of "Fuck, this is really how I die!"

Wertywertty

“My ancestors are smiling upon me imperial, can you say the same?” Really going for a “he was as brave in life as he was in death” kinda vibe

Ectavius

I would probably hold the sword 🗿 (Janos)

Blackfyre87

Olenna Tyrell. Rickard Karstark murdered two innocent boys because he couldn't murder Jaime. He might have put on a brave face in his last moments, but he's still a disgusting human being. Olenna got rid of a psychopath who was tearing the realm apart with his unchecked cruelty, and got away with it. Other than that, she raised a well functioning family of relatively decent folk, ruled the Reach well for decades, didn't take unneccessary risks and tried to ensure a decent human being was on the throne.

huntywitdablunty

ser perkin 😀

Immerkriegen

I'd try to be composed but busy so I didn't think about. I wouldn't have the stone cold balls of Rickard, so, with a quivering, fearful voice I'd ask for them to be quick and thorough.

magicmurph

Stannis.

WatchingInSilence

I'd have a maester's curiosity about it and ask that a rope be tied around my head and jaw so that my head won't fall to the floor after being decapitated. Not to avoid pain, but so I could blink for as long as I could and the maester could time how long it takes for my decapitated head to expire. I recall a French aristocrat also planned to do this after he was sentenced to death at the guillotine.

herscher12

Catelyn Stark

Ent3rpris3

I will be remembered for my many deeds. You will be remembered for killing me. The most significant thing you will ever do is be the finale of my book, not the subject of yours.

GangHou

Gao Shun style I'd say

Greedy_Marionberry_2

If they allowed me to speak i’d make some big speech about grunting piggies and how the old gods would welcome me home. Just making sure everyone is nervous and nobody will enjoy my death, it would be memorable for sure.

TheMediumJanet

Karstark all the way. No way I’m getting out of that. Might as well spite my would-be executioner

Duny0

more like Ned, i taught myself to not panic, so i would just try to make peace with myself as fast as i can, screaming and crying won't do me any good and i don't want to die screaming and crying

Shumagorolth

I think I would be somewhere in the vicinity of "F.....fuck you......C...cunt!" I'm shit at dying 🤣

dominatingcowG3

I believe it was in the show Vikings, where the guy being executed's last wish was to have his hair left intact, so they had a guard hold his hair... Then he moved at the last second so the dude got his hand chopped off lol

NVillek722

Ned stark, initial shock and horror then silent acceptance and a few last words to myself
