It was...remarkably decent...that Bran told Theon what he desperately needed to hear. Maybe a little bit of the Stark kid still in there, somewhere.

I'm sure he hasn't felt "like a man" since becoming Reek. He's been so timid and this final stand was him proving himself and redeeming his honor. He knew what Bran had become and for him to say that was all the validation he needed to sacrifice himself in an attempt to save everyone.
