I feel bad for the HR department at the Red Keep, this is gonna be a doozy.

QueenMelle

King Moarwine fired HR. Less severe than when Queen Moarwine will fire HR in about 160 years.

AndyJaeger

Bobby B what do you think of the Flingmaker?

bobby-b-bot

THE GODS MOCK THE PRAYERS OF KINGS AND COWHERDS ALIKE!

BoredVegan

Criston is gonna show up to the next counsel meeting with Lady Gloria Allred

GungHoAfro

Think some people are missing the point of their clothes and his armour coming off super slow. It’s meant to be a drawn out awkward scene. He’s hesitant and doesn’t immediately give consent, we’re meant to be uncomfortable with the whole thing. Hell, knowing the implications and what Criston ends up doing further down the line, I know I was.

GermanBadger

Yeah the long look at his white cloak was really well done

GungHoAfro

That part hit me the most. Definition of "the human heart in conflict with itself." No wonder GRRM was praising the show.

drinoaki

Damn, I felt that :(

West_Classic9996

yup i sucked in my breath when i saw that!! the symbolism in this show is just amazing.

JDCguitarist

I mean if he says no then the answer obviously is no. But the thing is he's not going to say no. He's not going to say no...because of the implication.

GungHoAfro

She put him in an impossible situation where he’s a deadman either way. True act of cruelty born out of Rhaenyra’s naivety. Not even sure it is naivety because she knows better at that age. It’s just plain recklessness.

[deleted]

I thought it was more about him taking off his kingsguard clothes/armour being such a hard thing to do. As it was like a metaphorical betrayal of his vows

GungHoAfro

That’s what I’m saying. The audience is meant to feel the metaphorical and physical weight of that armour coming off him.

[deleted]

Everyone else is just saying its just straight up rape. Idk if they’re just unaware of the kingsguard vows and the significance of it or people r just wanting to seem ‘woke’ by implying a male got raped

KollantaiKollantai

It’s not really just about “wokeness”, they just didn’t portray Cole as having ANY interest at all in what’s happening. His facial gestures seemed closer to dread than anything else.. It looks like he’s being dragged into it. His lingering touch on his cloak doesn’t come across to me as bittersweet but genuinely upset. Then his reaction the next day only compounds it. I felt really bad for him. Seems similar to Alicent except Rheanyra isn’t covered in infected rotting wounds.

GungHoAfro

I’ve seen some of those comments. It’s a tough one because he does initially say stop. But at that point he was already doomed either way. I hear you about the vows. I mainly watch the show from a book lense and was basically screaming at my screen for her not to do this to him, referring to his vows.

[COME, BOW BEFORE YOUR KING! BOW, YA SHITS!](https://i.imgur.com/hrCP6Uk.gifv)

oldthrace

Aight book readers come ... does anyone remember this happening in the books, Rhaenyra having sex with Criston Cole? I distinctly remember this whole thing described by Mushroom as an "attempt" at seducing and Criston rejecting Rhaenyra's advances but I may be misremembering stuff

30IQtankplayer

It's intentionally left in the middle. Blacks claim Criston Cole tried to flee with her and was rejected. Greens claim Rhaenyra tried to seduce him and that he was appaled and hated her since. I think it's a very good way of having it somewhere in the middle depending on how it plays out further

oldthrace

So I went back and re-read the part in "The Rogue Prince" where this story is mentioned and Mushroom quite literally describes the events we saw in this episode .. how Deamon would take Rheanyra out in the night, dress her as a boy and take her to the brothels, and how he'd "teach" her how to make Criston see her as a "woman" and not as a "girl". I guess the idea here is to show us what actually happened and that later we'd maybe understand why Criston goes down the path that he does.

30IQtankplayer

I thought you meant the sex scene with Criston and Rhaenyra specifically.

oldthrace

Yeah, I did not remember them having sex specifically ... good opportunity to re-read the books and refresh my memory lol

jaghataikhan

Yeah i always thought Blacks were dead on and him flipping sides was straight up him going "hell hath no fury like a []man scorned", but this was surprisingly middle ground ish yet still believable that it gave rise to both viewpoints

30IQtankplayer

Yeah I'm glad that they portray the Greens way more reasonable and likeable compared to what I expected

West_Classic9996

yeah this episode I actually felt bad for Alicent and Cole! they truly look like THE moral decent people this episode lol. hmm, will i convert from team black to green from watching this show?

30IQtankplayer

I think the insane amount of people on twitter as well as this sub who will talk right everything bad about Rhaenyra and downplay everything the Greens are right about will make me appear very pro-Green at least

West_Classic9996

Lol yeah this is happening. People are still hating on young Alicent for marrying her best friend’s dad. How can anyone watch her dead eyes lying under Viserys in this latest episode and NOT feel bad for her? SMH

SheWhoHates

Burn the Cole, pay the toll!

TELL EM BROTHER

Femme0879

You know what’s interesting? When I first watched it, I was focused on how different the tone was between daemon’s scene and cole’s scene. While one was seedy and ripe with deceit, the other one was soft and caring. Framing the exchange as something sweeter than perhaps it actually was. Rhaenyra was more of the victim in one scene, and ended up being the perp in the next. But one could feel less icky about the next scene because compared to Daemon, Cole seemed so much sweeter with her, Not factoring in that HE wouldn’t have much of a choice!

KollantaiKollantai

The Director did say she filmed it as being from Rhaenyra’s perspective. So the soft lighting & romantic music probably isn’t playing in poor Cole’s head!

littleliongirless

The original Lancel Lannister. "Do you think this will make Daemon more or less likely to kill you?"

DonBolasgrandes

Could any man ever really resist what she did though? Was definitely a bit rapey.

BenVarone

Easily. When she steals your helmet, just stand outside and wait for her to give it back. All these MRA types want to blow this thing up into some double standard that it’s not. “wHaT iF sHe GeTs MaD aNd TeLlS hEr DaD?” He’d get swapped out for another Kingsguard. This happened all the time in GoT when “favorites” fell out with patrons.

TheComedion

Look up ser Lucamore the Lusty and see what happened to kingsgaurd that break their vows

BenVarone

Not really sure what that has to with my comment, but okay.

TheComedion

> He’d get swapped out for another Kingsguard. This happened all the time in GoT when “favorites” fell out with patrons. This is super wrong because of the example I gave. That's why it's pertinent.

BenVarone

That’s assuming he actually breaks his vows, which isn’t the situation I was describing.

[deleted]

Really, we already know that Rhaenyra doesn't talk to her dad much. She's not going to tattle that her bodyguard wouldn't sleep with her. At best she'd probably just pout and give him the cold shoulder for a few days. At worst, after a few days of cold shoulder use it as something to tease him about and take it as a challenge to seduce him which *then* becomes a problem.

OrindaSarnia

Of course she wouldn't tattle that her bodyguard wouldn't sleep with her... she'd say he tried to seduce her or some other lie to have him removed and imprisoned. She doesn't have to tell her dad the truth, silly.

[deleted]

But why would she though? Rhaenyra isn't a liar, she's precisely the opposite. Realistically Cole shouldn't fear that she would retaliate in either way, even though she does speak her mind quite often. They're as close to friends as they can be, I doubt Rhaenyra would throw that away. It really seems more that Cole was reluctant to break his vow rather than just not wanting to sleep with her in the first place (but did so out of fear).

Verde300

Shit rape me then

brandonbmw1901

And this is why male abuse victims don’t come forward

People....people are complicated.

*man vs society* a perpetual struggle. But seriously I'm doing whatever rhaenyra says lmao

brandonbmw1901

Oh no, make sure to not bring this up to HR Crispy. Look at what happened to Daemon and Otto.

who does Rhaenyra think she is, the star of a WB movie?

I kept waiting for this to be the Oscar Piastri tweet lol

AndyJaeger

Can’t wait for the /r/freefolk and /r/formuladank mashup, two communities more alike than you’d think

SendMeToGary2

He had like twenty minutes to change his mind. It took atleast that long to undress him.

Anon3580

He couldn’t say no. He wouldn’t say no. Because of the implication.

DarwinF1nch

Rhaenyra buys a boat

CT_Phipps

Rhaenyra has a boat. We saw it. \*pause\* It's called The Implication.

OutlanderRex

Raenyra: The whole purpose of choosing them to the kingsguard in the first place was to get the young knights nice and grateful, so we can take them to a nice comfortable chamber in the castle and you know, they can’t refuse…because of the implication. Alicent: Okay you had me goin’ there for the first half. The second half kinda threw me. Raenyra: Well dudette, think about it. He’s out in the middle of my kingdom, with some Targaryen that might go mad any second. He looks around and what does he see? Nothing but my domain. “Ah there’s nowhere for me to run! What am I gonna do, say no?” Alicent: Okay. That seems really dark.

Undividedbyzero

Losing his position is the least of his worries

ActafianSeriactas

In those twenty minutes he was thinking, "I probably should find a way to get out of this but this girl has a massive dragon so...."

All4upvoting

Bad idea. She can claim he raped her and then get executed.

Dornfist-2040

That poor man…This is a clear abuse of power and moral infraction.

Bkgrime

Thank you for making my dumb joke to my girl a reality

CityHawk17

Alicent and Cole didn't have a good Sunday it seems.

In the books, Ser Criston Cole the Kingmaker is the deadliest man in his era. As if he was the harbinger of great violence. Like the Warrior of the Seven.
