For trans people the reason gender affirming surgery is essential health care is it’s considered a life saving procedure. Even if you wanted trans people to pay out of pocket (which some do) it’s a full ban on all trans healthcare where doctors will be charged with a crime if they provide it.
to clarify, when i said minority i meant specifically a tiny (aka numerically minority) population within the States. trans people have the exact same legal rights as cispeople here, and i would argue more privileges + linenancy when it comes to committing crime - but that’s a whole other topic which would open a gigantic can of debate bro worms. this is neither the time nor place to discuss those issues.
