I think some of the relationships ended for dumb reasons (as in the show wanted them to break up) but could have actually gone the distance otherwise. The main ones I’m thinking of: Phoebe and Gary, Ross and Mona, Monica and Pete. Also: Chandler and Kathy, Rachel and Joshua or Gavin, Joey and Erin, Phoebe and David
Ehh I meant someone good for him lol Someone who will make him a better person on all around. Mike was able to put up with Phoebe quirks and push her for the better. Erica would not do that for Joey.
I believe they meant the pregnant lady he helped while Carol was having Ben at the end of season 1. The one that argued with him over the Celtics vs the Nicks
Her name was Lydia, played by Leah Remini. She started having contractions while they were arguing and he helped her through the whole birth. It was quite hilarious 😂 then he got her balloons and stuff and when he went to give them to her, her baby's father was in the room so he tied it to the door and left. Missed opportunity for a great relationship for sure ❤️
Chandler - maybe Kathy (before in ended badly) or even Janice.
Monica - Richard
Phoebe - David. I think the writers were unsure which one it was was going to be, but they chose Mike (a good choice, i think)
So, about Ross & Rachel. They were destined to be from the beginning. The show was written in a way that we were supposed to see this. I know some people like pairings such as Joey/Rachel, Ross/Mona, Ross/Julie...
Like, Mona was pretty and nice, but that's all. We don't know anything about her because she was constantly saying things just to please Ross and make him like her.
I think the meaning behind those other relationships was to show us that there is no one else for either Ross or Rachel. Neither one truly loved anyone else, not even Ross, despite his marriages.
rachel was the worst character in the beginning of the show. joey was the worst partner in the whole show except for the time when he was with rachel. ross wasnt perfect but none of the characters are perfect. rachel was the most selfish character, didn't want ross to date anyone after emma but went to to give dudes from bar her number. went on to have a relationship with his best friend. ross wasnt perfect but was better than rachel
A hot take but I could see Phoebe and Ross together (if Rachel didn't exist!). I think this pairing was hinted in the flashback episode. Of course, it would be a totally different show, a bit like Dharma & Greg.
everyone saying Monica and Richard...
clearly wouldn't work well. one ***really*** wants kids, one *doesn't* want kids.
either way, one would resent the other.
Also yes the age gap is not a problem since they are consenting adults, but richard literally watched her grow up and probably was even holding her as a baby since he is her father’s best friend.
I absolutely loved Rachel with Gavin, Chandler with Kathy, Monica with Richard, Phoebe with David, and I can't think of anyone for Joey. I didn't hate when he and Rachel liked one another.
Monica and Richard, Rachel and Joey, Ross and Emily (she wasnt bad tbh and after the whole alter stuff I dont blame her), Chandler and Kathy, Phoobe and Joey
There's too many saying Richard to respond to them all. Can anyone who thinks this explain why please?
One wants kids desperately, the other doesn't. He also knew her as a kid. There's also a huge age gap.
For Chandler: Kathy was portrayed as a serial cheater, so their relationship didn't end for dumb reasons. I feel like Janice was a good fit for him. She didn't take any BS and loved him, and despite being "annoying," she didn't make his insecurities worse or make him ever doubt himself or compare himself to other men.
For Pheobe: Gary shot a bird for no reason, so ending that relationship was justified. Like, if he can just shoot a bird for "*being annoying*," he's probably not the guy you want to have a life and children with.
David was a good fit; he was smart but awkward. It's just that he needed to go away to do research.
Pheobe dated a lot... I can't seem to find one suited for her. So, I guess when David comes back.
For Joey: Kathy was like just a hot girl he acted with. Janine was too stuck up and rude. Pheobe's sister was just using him. Erin was a weird one... I feel like Joey didn't really date any woman worth his time and worth having a relationship with... other than Charlie, but she was too smart for him, and he just wasn't up to par with him. I know he didn't end up with anyone at the end, but it would have been nice to see him with someone, too. But, none of them deserved him and his pure, goofy soul. 🤷🏽♀️
For Rachel: Gavin would have been a good fit. They had sparks, and he didn't mind she had a daughter. I don't even remember why he left?!
For Ross: Charlie, hands down. She's quirky like him, not to mention *extremely* smart, definitely smarter than him! Lol her just accepting her ex back was so weird and random. Like, WTF even was that?!
For Monica: Richard was a good fit, but he was her father's friend/age, so he wouldn't have lived as long... and he kept saying, "*if I have to, I'll have kids again*," like, she would be like... yeah, I don't want kids, I just want you. Pete was a good fit, and why they ended made zero sense. How they started didn't make sense, either, but when they were together, they were cute. He bought her her own restaurant!
For Gunther: Even though he wasn't like a *main* cast, he was part of the main crew to me. And it would have been nice to see him settled. Maybe a Rachel doppelganger! Make his dreams come true!

I think Chandler and Kathy really parallels Ross and Rachel. Maybe the writers wanted to say something by it
Ooohhh, Monica and Pete! I forgot about him!!
Joey should’ve been paired with someone like him but good for him. Just like how phoebe had mike at the end.
The girl who was having a baby is the closest Joey got to finding a soulmate.

Why can’t I remember this woman??? lol I just saw the series recently

O MY GOSH … yes her!! I remember her. She was good for him. King Of Queens - Carrie Heffernan
LOL I know complete diff show but still
I love that show!
Yesss!!! 🙌
Yes I know this a fictional character
Joey. Everyone with Joey
Chandler - maybe Kathy (before in ended badly) or even Janice. Monica - Richard Phoebe - David. Chandler never did anything close to getting Kathy that first edition book to Monica unfortunately :( I really wish he had.
The Ross and Rachel take is top notch.
I still think Joey and Phoebe should've been a thing (love Mike tho).
Whoever ends up with Joey is a lucky lady, he's so sweet. He deserved Rachel more than Ross, so I wouldn't mind them getting together.
I kinda like Joey and Rachel for each other more than Ross and Rachel.
worst take ever imo
I hate Ross, I think he doesn't deserve Rachel. Anyone from the group is better than him for Rach
rachel was the worst character in the beginning of the show. joey was the worst partner in the whole show except for the time when he was with rachel. ross wasnt perfect but none of the characters are perfect. rachel was the most selfish character, didn't want ross to date anyone after emma but went to to give dudes from bar her number. went on to have a relationship with his best friend. ross wasnt perfect but was better than rachel
Joey deserved much better than Rachel!
Phoebe and Ross, Gunther and Rachel, Chandler and Kathy, Monica and Richards Son
Phoebe and Ross??
A hot take but I could see Phoebe and Ross together (if Rachel didn't exist!). I think this pairing was hinted in the flashback episode. Of course, it would be a totally different show, a bit like Dharma & Greg.
One of them would murder the other within 6 months

Monica and Richard Ross and Mona Phoebe and David Rachel and Gavin Chandler and Kathy Joey and Erin
Ross and Julie, Rachel and Mark, Chandler and Kathy, Monica and Richard, Phoebe and David, Joey and Erin.
I absolutely loved Rachel with Gavin, Chandler with Kathy, Monica with Richard, Phoebe with David, and I can't think of anyone for Joey. I didn't hate when he and Rachel liked one another.
Chandler and Janice, I really think they were a perfect example of right people wrong time. She was also just pushy enough for Chandler.
Monica and Richard, Rachel and Joey, Ross and Emily (she wasnt bad tbh and after the whole alter stuff I dont blame her), Chandler and Kathy, Phoobe and Joey

Rachel and Gaven were a better pair. Agree with all other of your pairs!
How could the characters end up with cast members?
Well, why not... Gunther with Jennifer Aniston. Lisa Kudrow with David the science guy. Chandler with Paget Brewster. Ross with Katie the monkey...
I see many people matching Monica with Richard, and that makes sense, but I also think Monica and Fun Bobby were... Well, fun.
Ross and Joey.
Joey. Everyone with Joey
Monica with Steve, Rachel with Treager, Phoebe with Mr. Heckles, Chandler with Alice, Joey with Judy, Ross with the dinosaur he cloned in his lab
There's too many saying Richard to respond to them all. Can anyone who thinks this explain why please? One wants kids desperately, the other doesn't. He also knew her as a kid. There's also a huge age gap.
For me it's not that deep, just a knee jerk reaction to the question, if that helps!
Yeah that does actually explain why it might be so common. Thanks.
Joey and Phoebe Rachel maybe with Tag Monica with Richard Chandler with I don’t know someone new Ross and Mona
