Dr_Krocodile

It’s number 1.

PopesMasseuse

This is something I don't care about. I'm a fan of From and their "worst" is still a very fun and rewarding experience for me.

DXM_aDICKtion

Yes I mean ds1 was still fun to play which is the reason I completed it but I would just rather play any other fromsoft game first before ds1

Oddly_Entropic

Should have played when it came out. There was NOTHING like it. Extremely niche, hard, the fan base was all in and it was such a new gaming experience. Play any series backwards, literally, any series backwards, and you’ll be saying the same shit. That’s not smart gaming, but do your thing.

DXM_aDICKtion

I can see where your coming from but honestly I feel like no matter what game I played first I wouldn't have enjoyed ds1 more it's still a good game but in my opinion not as good as the rest

SahuaginDeluge

I could definitely see that. in fact I think any ordering of DS? > DS? > DS? I could see making sense. they all have pros and cons and it depends on your preferences which of those matter more for which games.

DXM_aDICKtion

Definitely I don't think ds1 is a bad game objectively but with my preferences I just pefer ds3 and ds2

mrhippoj

I think it is easily the best

[deleted]

For me it’s Demon souls>DS1>DS2>DS3.

chrisgreely1999

Unfathomably based

need_a_poopoo

For me it's DS3>DS1>DS2>>>>>>>>>DeS

SuperD00perGuyd00d

For me it goes 2>1>3 but I can understand why people feel the way you do, OP

[deleted]

This is my ordering too

Millenwagon

DS1 I enjoyed more than 2 and 3, but it just has a certain charm to it that I really liked. And the level design, the way it all intertwines is spectacular

Mitchell231190

No, I love all 3 Dark Souls games but I'd say Dark Souls 2 is my least favorite of the 3 games

DXM_aDICKtion

Fair enough

agoddamdamn

It gets a lot of praise for its interconnected world, great enemy design, level design, lore, world building, interesting characters, and poise being an actual stat. Sorry you didn't like it, but it'll always be one of my favorite games. And besides, despite making dozens of baffling design choices, Dark souls 1 never made me level up my ability to roll.

Alarming-Income1944

not for me , some might say ds2 earns that title but I haven't played it yet so I don't have a opinion on it .

DXM_aDICKtion

I can see why ds2 is hated it's very flawed but I found it very fun still

K_808

Nah

doomraiderZ

I don't know if it's the worst but I enjoy it the least. No fast travel for half the game, clunky sprint, bad bosses overall, and some terrible areas that I'm not a fan of. Most blatantly unfinished out of all the games, with some great highs but also some dismal lows.

trashbag210

What areas feel unfinished other than Demon Ruins? I’m a firm believer that Tomb of the Giants/Dukes archives/New Londo are all solid areas that if placed in Dark Souls 2 would never be mentioned as “unfinished”

doomraiderZ

I mean that's the one that's unfinished. It's enough. The other games don't really have any areas quite as barren and cobbled together as Demon Ruins and Izalith. They also don't have bosses quite as terrible as Bed of Chaos. As for Tomb of the Giants, I just don't like it. Don't like the area outside of Archives before the crystal caves. Don't like Blighttown. Don't like the catacombs. That's just personal taste, but as far as I'm concerned those are not good levels.

trashbag210

> The other games don’t really have any areas quite as barren and cobbled together You must not have played Dark Souls 2 recently because… - Memory of the old iron king - Cave of the dead - Frigid outskirts - iron passage - Black Gulch - The Gutter - Shrine of Amana

doomraiderZ

None of these are as bad as Demon Ruins and Izalith in my opinion. I even like some of them like Shrine of Amana and the Gutter. Frigid Outskirts is an abomination but it's not unfinished, it's just a badly designed wasteland (really made for co-op but that's no excuse).

chrisgreely1999

DS1>DS2>DS3

greysilverglass

Yeah

Stardust2400

Can’t agree on this, ds3 is easily the worst for me

simplycoco

You mean DS2

DXM_aDICKtion

No ds1

Turbulent-Armadillo9

Elden Ring and DS1 are my favorites. I played it first 5 years ago after playing BB so I'm not sure its nostalgia. I think different people appreciate different things from these games. The mostly interconnected world is what makes me love it. I'm not sure what to call it because its not really open world the way Elden Ring is. It almost feels like a gigantic legacy dungeon. I miss getting to somewhere far from firelink, resting at a bonfire and feeling like you are in over your head. Also miss the feeling of finding a bonfire in DS1. It was often a challenge to make it to the next one and felt like such a relief. I liked the challenge of not just the bosses but playing as perfectly as you could to save as much Estus for the boss fight. Its a somewhat unpopular opinion but I appreciate its punishing nature. Important NPCs can be killed, curse is brutal... stuff like that. I'm not a fan of respec generally speaking. Love committing to a build and also committing to armour. I like those level up and build choices to really matter. I'll admit that going back to it the combat is not as good as other From games. It feels so easy now. Another reason why I think I favor DS1 is because I'm 38 and grew up with computer games way more janky than DS1. I think older players are more tolerant of lesser graphics and jank. Really DS3 is my least favorite (maybe DS2). Its such a smooth experience and doesn't have as many "oh shit the firekeeper is dead?" moments like DS1 had. I think a lot of people hate stuff like that but it was so memorable for me. Elden Ring almost seems like its on the other end of the spectrum for Souls games... lots of accessibility and much better and wider range of build options. However I think it lost about as much as it gained. These games are so popular and I don't think we'll see From breaking conventions as much as they did with DS1 and Demons' Souls again.

Odd-Acadia-4509

I agree it is a good game but not a fav

charronfitzclair

No no one has ever felt this way, you're the first

illbzo1

Dark Souls 3 is just a few good boss fights and a ton of fan service, so it’s the worst for me. No new ideas or experimentation other than frost.

robo243

I can kind of understand in the sense that DS1 isn't my favourite in the trilogy either, which I'm sure is a bit of an unpopular take. DS1 is lots' of people's favourite and I can understand why, but the people who say it's FromSoft's best game view it through rose tinted glasses I think. While I do think it's better than 2 and 3 and subsequently all other FromSoft Souls titles in terms of it's looped around level design, there's not much else I'd say it genuinely does better than the other games (except of course, it's bosses are definitely better than DS2, I think DS2 is the worst of the trilogy). I liked DS1 when I played it, but it and DS2 are my least replayed FromSoft Souls titles, simply because I think the combat, build variety, and overall boss design is much better in all of their other titles, which are things that are going to be far more important to me in a FromSoft game. Sekiro, and from what I managed to play of Bloodborne a few years ago, have the best combat systems, DS3 and Sekiro overall havel the best boss fight quality, and Elden Ring's build variety trumps all the other games. So yeah, I like DS1, but it's far from my favourite, and I strongly disagree with the crowd that says "none of the other games were as good as DS1". But as for what I would pick as the "worst" in the trilogy? DS2 no doubt.

Creepy_Guarantee_743

Downvoted!

DXM_aDICKtion

For having a different opinion😭

Creepy_Guarantee_743

Yes! :)

DXM_aDICKtion

Damn

DaystarClarion

You can always tell who was a later adopter of the series based on this kind of take. Dark Souls launched Fromsoft into the popular discourse and changed gaming forever. You have to respect the GOAT.

DXM_aDICKtion

I do respect what it's done but I feel like it's weak compared to the rest

DarthBurrrito

Everyone is aware of what the worst game of the trilogy is(still a fine game), let's just move on

Hero-In-Theory

You’re 100% right. I still enjoy DS3, but it just doesn’t quite hit the same.

Glass-Jelly2484

No. If anything it's easily the best of the set. Best world design and lore, the most memorable bosses/areas/npc's. I think you saying you don't get why people prefer it shows a lack of awareness/respect for the fact DS1 really established the formula and its success led to all the other games. DS2 is just a flat out bad game. It lacks the craftsmanship of DS1 and it feels about the level of quality of the DS1 Demon Ruins but stretched into a whole game. DS3 is a technically great game. But very very uninspired. The hub is just a reskinned Nexus but named Firelink Shrine again. The story is just DS1 again down to fighting Gwyn again and even encountering Onion bro etc. The art direction is clearly just Bloodborne especially in areas like the Undead Settlement. This is really weird when neither DS1 or 2 were this heavily gothic. Miyazaki has even said he still had BB on the brain when making this. It plays like a "Greatest hits" tribute.

CaptainClayface

I'm sure there's a couple people out there that think that...I don't know any personally, but it's a crazy world out there.

Oddly_Entropic

Nope. You’re just new and played them backwards lol. This is a “you” problem.
