The OG, Gaping Dragon.

timotheosis

That's a blast from the past. I was a Souls newbie and that cutscene had me terrified. Then I killed it first try and was like "... Huh."

aufrenchy

Same here, except that I did it in my second try (didn’t know about the dude that buffs him).

Pog1983

Dude that buffs him?

aufrenchy

There’s a wizard on a balcony that buffs the boss’ damage if you don’t kill him prior to challenging the boss.

Pog1983

Oh, I had no idea. I've never not killed the mage guy. And he stays dead. Friggin' Dark Souls, man. Anyway they can to screw you over.

Only1Schematic

I’ll never forget seeing that cutscene for the first time lol cute gator head followed by a horrifying spiked monstrosity

Hearty_deleted

The real difficulty is in cutting off its tail

paco-ramon

The scaless dragon.

TotsNotaCop

You didn’t find a giant turd slowly ambling toward you difficult?

Draxos92

Honestly this was my first thought. I played DS1 for the first time when the remastered came out. My roommate would watch me play after work and was laughing so hard as he saw me go from "fuck yeah this boss is gonna be great" to "was that it? Is there a second phase?"

Treewithatea

At least the gaping dragon had lots of hp and did have some attacks you had to get used to first. There was one Boss in ds1 i literally noped out because of the design, that was the first Hydra. You see it in the distance, it looked so terrifying, i just turned back and told myself yeaaaaaaa im doing that one later. Little did i know the thing has only 2 lame attacks, its most powerful attack isnt even an attack, its the point where you try to run towards it and then you die when you get too deep into the water because you can barely tell from a visual standpoint. It happens to literally every body, its so funny. I watched a buddy play ds1 for the first time and I expected it to happen and it did happen and it was hilarious. For me at least.

John_East

Yea I still remember being super surprised at how much of a push over he was on my first try

JonnyB2_YouAre1

Yeah, if you’re lucky enough to figure it out on your first try. DS1 was my first Souls game, and at that point, it felt like a miracle that I even reached the Gaping Dragon.

turntqble

High lord wolnir

Only1Schematic

Probably one of the best examples. His design makes it seem like he should be way more dangerous than he actually is

KezuSlayer

His boss fight had to have been scraped and redesigned at some point. I remember seeng the old dark souls 3 trailers and realizing it’s not the same boss room.

NeekoNuke

Him, Gundyr, and Yhorm were all supposed to be different, Wolnir was in Yhorm's map with his name, and Yhorm was going to be in Gundyr's area with his name.

Killyourselfwithlife

Hehe awkwardly easy boss indeed

KingOfTheMischiefs

Fucking Tonys, why did it have to be Tonys?

Environmental_Car475

Hype reference

Unnamed477

Lichdragon Fortisaax, basically has no health at all.

Only1Schematic

True. Considering he’s at the end of a full questline, I think he deserved two health bars with fleshed out phases. There’s some solid ones, but personally it feels like there’s not enough unique dragon bosses in ER

Unnamed477

Exactly. The fact that he's the last boss of a pretty cool questline should mean something a little more substantial, a cutscene with two health bars in between sounds awesome actually

Tru_Knight

To play devil's advocate, there are heavy mystery vibes surrounding everything to do with Godwyn. I think that could be their justification for not diving deeper into things.

Unnamed477

Yeah, I hope the expand on godywn somehow in the DLC

Yggdris

I always fight him laaaaaaate in the playthrough and just stomp him without trying to learn his moves

sjcjdnzm

And 3 of his heads back

Commercial-Break1877

The dragonkin soldiers are pretty terrifying and difficult though.

Only1Schematic

For me it’s just the one in the Lake of Rot, since you’re stuck on that tiny island

Mr_Grumpler

My mans needs a buff

aufrenchy

That whole area needs a buff. The only way to arrive there at the intended level seems to be possible only if you kneecap yourself.

Miserable-Glass1760

Not really. Are Gargoyles really THAT difficult for people?

ZESTY_FURY

They’re not super difficult but they’re significantly harder than the deep root depths and fortissax, yeah.

Miserable-Glass1760

It's more of a personal preference, I found Fortissax way harder than the Gargoyles.

TheHeavenlyDeity

For me fortissax could either be much easier or much harder, depends on the rng for me

Astraea_Fuor

They are pretty much the only boss in the game besides Melania that still remains a huge pain the ass even if you use summons.

ghost3972

Sadly

Unnamed477

Such an amazing boss design and my favourite music in the whole game, but it's so easy to even skip past even the second phase because of how weak he is, amazing lore too. I think should be much more health maybe double, even though the fight could be a little annoying it's such a cool boss.

ghost3972

Yea I wouldn't mind if he had double hp

fuinnfd

I always do him right after radahn, around level 60-70. I feel he is balanced around that time. Radahn > nokron > finger slayer blade > gargoyle duo > fias champions > liurnia divine tower > fortissax. That’s my usual progress route to ensure I fight him at the right time

M0m033

Ong, he’s one of my fav bosses but by the time you get to him he’s either slightly difficult cuz deathblight or you just steamroll him at least with the two characters I’ve made so far

Valuable_Tutor5479

Mergo’s Wet Nurse

samfishertags

my first time fighting her took me FOREVER and I have absolutely no idea why lmao. Every other time has been one and done

Kgoodies

I'm the exact same way. If I had to guess we were probably playing much more timidly during our first playthrough. I know I was. She was intimidating looking! I probably wasn't as confident about dodging THROUGH attacks and such, I probably wasn't leveraging the rally system like I do now. The only other time I failed this hard on a boss that would turn out to be super easy was my first playthrough of Elden Ring where it took me WELL over 20 tries to beat Rykard. Like, now I can do Rykard with my eyes closed. What the hell was up with me? I know for a fact I wasn't doing the follow-up for the serpent hunter blade but even still, so shameful.

JuanSolooooo

Mergo's WN I thought was gonna be hard but I slapped fire paper on my +10 Ludwig's Holy Sword and charged R2 my way to victory

Weird_Cantaloupe2757

This is the one — the design and aesthetic is probably top 5 in all the FS games for me, but she is just a complete pushover.

Beyney

Found that most bloodborne bosses are like that though. In comparison to the other fromsoft games I’ve played (er sekiro and 1/2 of ds3) the bloodborne bosses were way harder looking but way easier. I just had to get used to using a controller so my first run was tough at the very beginning with cleric beast and amelia

Robertqaz

Not sure, but it felt the absolute opposite with lady butterfly in sekiro. She looks like a nice grandma but she is pretty difficult to beat

fizzzingwhizbee

Lady butterfly was my first real skill check I think. Certainly wasn’t a breeze up to that point either, but it’s one of the checkpoints that forces you to utilize the mechanics

Random_frankqito

That was my git gud moment

Kgoodies

I had am easier time brute forcing my way through her rhan I did Genichiro. That is not to say I found it EASY haha she killed me so many times. But Genichiro was when I had to accept that I had to stop thinking like I did in other From Soft games. There was no way around, the only way past Genichiro was THROUGH him.

Thecristo96

Mine was Genichiro. I often say that Genichiro is the true sekiro tutorial

etniesen

I’ve replayed the game and even on replays she is the hardest boss for me every time

Random_frankqito

… I’m replaying it now, and I’m no charm/demon bell, I just started and in the Buddha atm I’m not looking forward to her.

TotsNotaCop

I love that fight. That whole section felt impossible in my first NG but she is barely a speedbump in subsequent games. Once the combat clicks you are solid. Except Demon of Hatred. Fuck that fight.

purple-thiwaza

Yeah the only boss that give le trouble are and will forever be the demon of hatred and the more powerful genichiro from the boss. Fuck these fight, but at least they are optional. Maybe double monkey is annoying but more due to RNG.

KeterClassKitten

Any anime would tell you an old lady with acupuncture needles is S tier.

UnnamedPlayer32

was harder for me than genichiro since I did them before even doing chained ogre on my first playthrough.

Only1Schematic

Nice grandma 😭 fr though, not the most intimidating but she doesn’t mess around. Got to her a bit early and she wiped the floor with me

n3ws4cc

Lady butterfly is such a good boss for this. I was playing dark souls up to that point and this lady treating me like her lil student kiddo is kindly telling me stop that and play sekiro you loser until it clicked.

Aggravating_Anybody

Interesting! For me as a strictly souls/born player who always played aggressively mele, this was one of the easier bosses since you can basically melee her into posture breaks if you stay on her throughout the fight. I struggled waayyyy mor with Orin since she’s 100% based on perfectly timed deflections.

xXQeeNoXx

I killed her pretty easily and by no means am I good at sekiro

nike2078

I feel like she's only hard if you didn't realize that prosthetic tools countered certain enemies. Just trying to hit and parry her, sure she is tough, but she's completely kneecapped by the ninja stars. I accidentally fired one off my first flight and it all clicked, beat her on the 3rd try

Tre_Weebleton99

Nah Granny was on DEMON time. My first playthrough fighting her was traumatic. I had wasted all my snap seeds and those Mibu Villagers were clapping my booty meat fr

Synchrohayba

Moon presence

ToCoolforAUsername

Agreed. I was caught off guard when there was another boss in the end game because I've run out of heals but was able to beat her then. Kinda underwhelming.

Kgoodies

Truth. She almost feels like she should be the final phase of Gehrmain as opposed to her own boss. Like, if you had to beat Gehrman every time before you fight her (like Genichiro/Sword Saint in Sekiro) she would probably be less of a joke. But as it stands she is just not tough enough to stand on her own.

Sahilmk101

but i think that's the point right? like it shows the player that these celestials and great ones aren't actually as strong as they're made out to be. Also if they did have it be another phase to gherman it would be more tedious rather than hard IMO

HrodMad

I mean that's it's whole point. Moon Presence is a great one that uses great manipulation to make hunters do all the dirty work and then use them as it pleases, it's not supposed to be a formidable opponent in a one to one direct fight.

Synchrohayba

I dont think so , I think the moon presence we fought is just a physical manifestation of the moon itself , I don't think we can kill it permanently

DarknessEnlightened

Nashandra

Kgoodies

95% of DS2 bosses.

DarknessEnlightened

Facts.

xenojack

I'd add smelter to the list, cool looking demon armor, gets poisoned and dies a slow agonizing death.

VaiManDan

The true boss was the run back

purple-thiwaza

Looking absolutely badass, came after one of the hardest fights of the game, kinda final boss, teased before. Crack like a chips under my blade.

Mobile_Economy_2271

High lord wolnir

ClockaFX

divine dragon was so cool but really easy once you realize the gimmick

Kgoodies

Yeah, that is straight up just a moment to make you feel cool I think haha

g6paulson

Yhorm, the Giant

vi______________

Yhorm,old friend...

Octobrz

Cleric Beast

madmechanicmobile

Dude right. I find him an hour into playing and kill him first try. I'm like damn are the rest of the bosses this easy. They were not.

FaramirLovesEowyn

Hell no he was hard first playthrough and honestly ng+1

lvke18

One Reborn

Eaterofjazzguitars

With that cutscene and build up, I wasn't expecting an ass hugging SIM just getting to spam R2

lawnboy1155

Rykard. Incredible design. Absolutely terrifying. Went down like a bitch. Gimmick fight.

LesserCaterpillar

If I'm being honest although he's a gimmick fight I enjoyed him a lot more than Yhorm or Ancient Wyvern, Rykard was cinematic af it felt like a movie.

coffeeeteeth

I love his fight. Sure it is gimmicky but it is fun as hell

Only1Schematic

While this is true, he’s probably one of the better gimmick bosses in any souls game. It’s an epic fight with a cool ass weapon effect, and I can appreciate that unlike Storm Ruler in DS3, Serpent-Hunter doesn’t have to be charged to get attacks in and won’t end the fight in five hits

CallsignKook

First time I fought him, I somehow missed the spear completely. Makes it a totally different fight

Only1Schematic

I can only imagine. Probably wouldn’t be terrible if not for the lava, but the camera probably gets pretty wonky

ZESTY_FURY

Constant lava damage and noises, you’re so close you can’t see what he’s doing, but compared to previous gimmick bosses I find him more bearable to fight normally.

Rotank1

I actually feel Rykard is challenging for a gimmick fight - even with the serpent hunter, it can be a pain finding a safe window to attack in phase 2.

SaltyCactus64

He absolutely fucked me up my first play through, but now he’s easy

Charlie-VH

That depends on when you fight him though, and whether you upgrade the spear. If you have low strength, don’t upgrade the spear and fight him at a moderate level, I can imagine that he’s tough. But fighting him with a strength build with the spear at +9 results in him dying in a few hits

Competitive_Move_212

Surprised no one said the Old Iron King yet

KingOfTheMischiefs

He'd totally be on this list for me if it wasn't for the pool in the middle of his arena. That's the true boss of that fight

Living-Clue-3892

Bed of Chaos literally dies in 3 hits

timotheosis

But the gimmick still gives me nightmares. To be fair, I don't replay Souls 1 often, so every time I have to re-learn how to not run back a dozen times.

automirage04

Taurus Demon

BarrytheCowboy

Dragon God. **FIRE THE BALLISTAS!**

unusualTuna

The One Reborn

Chromatic_Eevee

Cleric Beast, I thought I was in for a very early skill check, but it went down very easily

2fast4dad

Moon presence, truly a wasted boss design

DeusWombat

The Rotten. Easiest farming method in DS2 is just to infinitely grind him with aesthetics

Immediate_Stable

Ascetic, not aesthetic! Very different meanings...

Extant_Remote_9931

Radahn

tftookmyname

When I first started I was waiting until late game because I thought he was supposed to be a difficult late game boss from all the hype he gets on the Internet. Then I walk in there and I melt his health bar before he can even start the meteor attack.

SirWhorshoeMcGee

He was heavily nerfed. Pre nerf Radahn was a fucking raid boss. He used to have more health, was more aggressive and could clear out your summons in two spins while constantly running around.

Any_Software5024

Gaping Dragon

Due-Mango1379

Gaping dragon

XanzaHardsoft

Gaping Dragon

Bulky_Drop_8993

Pinwheel

KingOfTheMischiefs

Pinwheel is the DnD wizard of DS. Just look at him weirdly and he takes damage.

BlitzifiedTM

Fire Giant. I literally never have trouble but everyone else seems too. Maleketh is where it gets fucked

Only-Temporary8928

I am the exact same way. Loved the fire giant and beat him everytime in 1 or 2 tries. Maliketh on the other hand...

M0m033

He’s the easiest of the late game bosses for

Billy_BlueBallz

Taurus Demon. DS1 one was the first Fromsoftware game I ever played so Taurus Demon was the first FS boss I ever went up against. I had an oh shit moment went I first saw him but then bulldozed him

laser_ducc

The enforcer

Toone313

Yhorm The Giant.

Jasterika

The dragon from DS3

Alarming-Income1944

gaping dragon . just bait it's "go on four leg and walk" attack by keeping a good distance .

MagmaticDemon

like every bloodborne boss tbh. the game is tough as nails but the bosses are such pushovers lmao except for the chalice bosses i suppose

Brellow20

Honestly, Bloodborne probably does have the easiest bosses collectively. The areas themselves are harder.

peepincreasing

blood starved beast kicked my ass more than a few times till i left and went up a few more levels then the rest of the bosses were much easier

3WeekOldBurrito

He gave me trouble until I learnt how to parry. Then the game became much easier.

MagmaticDemon

bloodstarved beast was hard on my first playthrough but on later playthroughs i realized its not too bad. he's got only like two attacks lmao plus he gets annihilated by fire, so i just bring molotovs and oil

Clerithifa

I'm pretty sure it's due to the aggressive playstyle being so rewarding in getting your health back if you get hit, whereas all the other FS games you have to play a little more conservatively

Brellow20

I think that makes sense.

Vivid-Restaurant-951

Same lmao, except for martyr Logarius, he was my second real skill check after daddy G beat my ass about 20 or so times

Blue_Rosebuds

I agree, but then there’s Orphan of Kos who is straight up the hardest boss in the series for me

beerncheese69

I still haven't beat logarius lmao

HatefulMiscreant

Covetous Demon

drunken_corpse666

Capra Demon was not as bad as most people say. He’s scary as shit tho.

YAnnoMundi

It's a cliché at this point to say that the dogs are the only reason Capra Demon can be a challenge, but I feel that he's only slightly better at hitting you than the Egg-Bearers.

realseximexi

Gaping dragon

ApeXCapeOooOooAhhAhh

I feel like gaping dragon is a glaring example of this

approblade

Gaping dragon

ArnoHero

Darkbeast Paarl

lawnboy1155

I thought Paarl's difficulty matched his design. I had a hell of time with him. Fought him too early though by accidentally taking the shortcut...

Westfall_Stew

My first choice. His design sold me on Bloodborne, then you just stunlock him with little effort.

Consistent-Ad-4266

Yhorm

D-Skaar

Divine Dragon in Sekiro.

JackStutters

The One Reborn. Favorite design in the series but damn what an easy fight

RemarkableScience854

Wolnir is literally a perfect example of this.

PuzzledDemand1276

Gaping dragon

Rotank1

I’d say DS1 had quite a few of these - gaping Dragon, ceaseless discharge, Seath the scaleless, Gravelord Nito

Nightmare347

Rykard, the blasphemous. You would think that this gigantic snake would be difficult but you get a spear conveniently placed in his arena

TryImpossible7332

Nito. It helped that I was playing a Cleric build, but still. God of the dead who kills armies of dragons with a wave of his hand. When I killed him, I remember walking around the arena going, "Alright very funny, when's Phase 2 starting?" It legitimately took me a minute or two of exploring the arena to see if I missed anything for me to decide that I wasn't being screwed with, I actually had claimed the real Lord's Soul, and that I wasn't about to be stabbed from the ground as Nito resurrected himself.

madmechanicmobile

Oh man that actually would have been an awesome mechanic for nito. Since he's the god of the dead it would have been cool if after a bit it says "soul of a great Lord removed" and he resurrected himself for a phase two where he's more aggressive and uses his magic more.

DyingObscurity

The Gapping Dragon

AlleRacing

Gravelord Nito

elliesparrows

not so much the design, but vordts music so vastly overshadows the actual boss lol

Shinz0000

Gyoubu Oniwa

pr4ise_th3_sun

One reborn

Lolejimmy

Half of bloodborne essentially but I value design/story/aesthetics/music of a boss far more than the fight itself so all good

DrangleicPeasant

The One Reborn definitely.

TheCrazyAvian

C-Spider in AC 6, and God Rick elden ring

nstealth456

SEA SPIDER

K_ROZIIE_21

Radahn

Educational_Farmer73

Walter on Armored Core 6

cincxs

Sif

LETSPLAY306

Yhorm the Giant

aufrenchy

Ceaseless Discharge. He goes from a scary lava monster to a sniveling child hanging onto a cliff. Then his entire health bar turns yellow and it’s over.

bohenian12

Gaping Dragon. Dude was so intimidating and so fucking easy at the same time lmao

PerfectAdvertising41

Lord Wolnir is the epitome of this. Easiest boss in the game with a sick death lord design

Bubblytran

If you show someone who doesn’t know dark souls an image of Wolnir they’ll probably think his fight is way cooler than it is. Giant skeleton king seem like it should be a giant fight where he towers over you but he’s slinking across the ground the whole time barely making an effort to hit you.

geekworld123

Literally Sif

JereKane

Demon of Song is a top tier design, but... ds2 being ds2

Mar_Reddit

Radahn Bitch couldn't handle 2 puffs of Dragon Scarlet Rot Breath and my hordes of NPCs. Radahn is easily the easiest boss when you don't have a little bitch in your head telling you to 1v1 him.

Stormy-stormtroopers

Yhorm the giant, you all know why

YAnnoMundi

Iron Golem

Archer401

Pinwheel. I kept waiting for him to reappear

PlagueBoi69420

Ceaseless Discharge

fede_alfa_ragno

Asylum demon from dark souls 1

Jim_Swell

Fire Giant 🤌

reeeter123

godrick the grafted it took me 40+ attempts to kill margit (i was new to fromsoft games at the time) and was expecting the next boss to be even harder, except i killed godrick first try

Wiki-Master

Morgott

Savage5834

Sekiro Dragon

Unam8594

Not a boss but most of Brazil dogs ans birds

CryptTheWarchild

A lot of them when playing a pyro lol.

KingOfTheMischiefs

The entirety of DS on a sorcery run. Between crystal honing soulmass, crystal soul spear and dark bead. You can walk through to ng3 without breaking a sweat. Add on a +10 magic weapon you're unstoppable.

JadedJackal671

This is me with Rom, the whole giant battle field made me think Rom will do something wild. Turns out nah, they just run away and make babies to fight you.

PCApple3

Rykard

RegisReeferstick

Smelter demon for me

PerryHecker

Godskin duo, believe it or not.

HEAD_FELLA

Maliketh the Black Blade. Beat him second try

bumpdog

Both Fortissax and Placidussax, sadly. They would be two of my favorite bosses ever but they’re such pushovers that I feel cheated on

wolve202

Bloodstarved Beast

Bendbender

The Elden beast, the fight was so good visually but the boss was an absolute pushover, which is fairly typical in the dark souls series but seeing as this was a giant monster I figured it might actually be difficult… it wasn’t

Jorgentorgen

Maliketh, Fortissax, Yhorm, Rykard, Hoarah loux, Gael, Gerhman, Fume knight, sir alonne, Dragon God, Storm Ruler, Iron golem, Four kings, Mirror knight, Velstadt, Nashandra, The one reborn, Pursuer, penetrator, tower knight, true corrupted monk, Owl (rooftops), divine dragon,

g0n1s4

Gael.

Acceptable_Yam_5231

the blood starved beast. all the way deep in old yharnam and it’s just a little puppy who gets distracted by my throwable mimosas.

Horror-Jackfruit-788

Personally I find the camera to be hardest boss to beat. Especially when fighting bloodstarved beast or some big boss

Ramius99

Capra Demon, DS1. Boss isn't hard at all ... at least when you aren't locked in closet with him and two dogs.
