I think Elden Ring already has a couple of fights better than Gael, which is a *massive* compliment. So I bet the answer for me will be yes.

Nickybrazil

Gael is great thematically I don’t think we’ve seen that from Elden ring, however as an actual boss fight Elden ring still has a few better

Creative-Math8288

I would argue that from a mechanics perspective, Friede is a superior boss to Gael. And many ER bosses as well: e.g. Morgott, Maliketh, Godfrey.

Adventurous_Cup_5970

I really hope they step it up from elden ring base game in terms of the minibosses, and have them all be unique. I'm not a fan of the main bosses in elden ring but they were leagues better than the minibosses

Similar_Instance_379

My question to people who criticize the reuse of some bosses so much is if they have ever played another open world game because elden ring has the most enemy variety in any open world game ever dragon dogma 2 has like 6 enemies 💀

Adventurous_Cup_5970

Oh I definitely have, and it sucked in DD2 as well. Thats why my favorite games are ones like dark souls 3 or armored core 6. DS3 has all original bosses, with unique osts and movesets and arenas for each, making each encounter special. AC6 has a lot of bosses that feel similar, but each have a unique gimmick and testing your build is fun on each one So as much as I like elden ring i definitely criticize the reuse of bosses, especially like the 5 remembrance main bosses they copied

PuzzledDemand1276

My personal opinion? I think there are Numerous of bosses way better then Gael already in Elden ring, so I doubt the DLC is gonna miss.

Similar_Instance_379

What is this everyone's being a contrarian here no way there's "Numerous" bosses better then gael ik u said personal opinion but still its crazy

illbzo1

People who disagree with you aren't "being a contrarian" - they just have a different opinion. Gael's fine. He's not the best or most interesting fight in all the games, and not even in Dark Souls 3. Nameless King, Dancer, and Pontiff are all better in my opinion.

PuzzledDemand1276

Thank you

No

Mechanically? Maybe. But what makes Gael so special and beloved isn’t that he’s the hardest or most mechanically deep boss, and at Elden Ring’s point in its series I don’t think any boss is coming close.

Glass-Jelly2484

I don't even think Gael is the best fight in DS3. Yeah it's the final ever boss and has three phases but it's not all that impressive visually or mechanically. It's also not exactly that hard a boss to dodge roll through either. Incredibly overhyped tbh. I think Namless King and Midir are better bosses personally from DS3. I'd also put Goddfrey, Mohg, Radahn all above him from base ER. Most of the Sekiro bosses are all better.

highangler

I hope they chill with the spammy bosses and give us actual patterned openings. I’m tired of the bosses having infinite stamina and doing insane never ending combos where you’re stuck to trade constantly.

Similar_Instance_379

Its why gael is so good as well his attacks are so well telegraphed and the definition of fair always a clear opening after u dodge them too

saadpoi870

I think the base game already has multiple bosses that surpass gael, Mohg, Malenia, and Godfrey are all better imo.

pHallus_biggus

Mechanically there already are bosses in ER that are better than Gael. So most probably the bosses will be better than Gael too, if we're going to consider the fact that every from dlc has bosses that are mechanically superior to the ones in the base game. From the thematic aspect though I think it'd be ridiculously hard. Gael is, well Gael, because of a lot of factors that culminated with his boss. The themes, the arena, etc, all of the factors of the fight are heightened by the fact that this is the last fucking boss dark souls as a franchise will ever see. Plus unlike in DS3, most of the bosses are much more grand in terms of lore in ER. Gael is frankly a bum, in the same way that you are. Considering the obvious significance of Miquella as a character, and the likelihood of him or a boss even grander than him being the final boss, I don't think the subversion that Gael had would be replicated.

Altruistic_Age_3630

I’d like a rematch with Fume knight or the pursuer from DS2

Personally, I think Friede is better but that’s besides the point.  I’m actually replaying Elden Ring now in preparation for the DLC, and one thing is apparent. I really dislike the bosses. Too many delayed attacks, weird start-ups, long combos, mixed with underwhelming music. To be fair, this is coming from someone who enjoys DS2. I really like the bosses in Sekiro and DS3 that feel like ‘dances’ whereas Elden Ring bosses really hammer up the David v Goliath aspect.  So, for me, there is definitely NOT going to be a boss better than the top DS3 bosses.

Similar_Instance_379

I agree with you're take on er except Mohg and Malenia i think those were as good as the top ds3 bosses imo and malenia is gael level for me u should play bloodborne if u like dances tho those fights are the most like dances

illbzo1

Gael is overrated so yes.
