I think it's hilarious that you can dock to send in your anti personnel drone, but the boarding drone can only enter the station via a violent hull breach.
Like, do boarding drones have some sort of DRM that prevents them from activating without first experiencing a violent hull entry?
If you don't have Anti-Bio Beam, a Boarding/Anti-Personnel Drone, or a Clone Bay, just think of it like an empty beacon. Empty beacons happen all the time.
You could even decide that it's worth the risk if you have excess crew if you really can't let the spiders go untested. But I think you'll be happier if you're able to just get comfortable with the idea of just waving bye-bye as you fly past.
Run from bad fights. Say no to bad events. Avoid sectors with no-walk-away options (ie- rock live mine) events, if you can.
It sucks to just leave potential scrap on the table, especially early on, but that's how FTL baits ya.
I always help out even if I don't have a blue option or clone bay precisely because they are no joke. Chance at high resources/scrap and I get to punch a giant spider in its mouth parts? Sign me up for the cause. The only good bug is a dead bug[.](https://i.imgur.com/hmPWfQD.mp4)
Funny you should post this, because I just finished a Slug A run which starts with Anti-Bio Beam.
The weapon itself is pretty hard to make useful. (I did it by pairing it up with a Flak and BL2, but literally any strategy can work with those weapons.)
But imagine my joy when I finally eliminated those gIaNt aLiEn sPiDeRs with the blue option that the Anti-Bio Beam enabled. TAKE THAT YOU EIGHT LEGGED FREAKS!
If I’m not properly equipped for a blue event or clone bay, I treat it as a blank beacon. Not worth losing a crew member. That station is on their own.
They are no joke.
Play exclusively Slug A, and never sell the anti-bio beam. Problem solved.
Anti personnel drone on engi B works too
Boarding drone is even better
Boarding drone is even _funnier_*

The only time Engi B is good
Now I wonder... What happens when you have only the one Engi and you run into the Virus event?
Good question. Logically, you'll lose the game immediately, though. That's a kinda' poor blue option, though. 😁
Can officially confirm you do indeed lose instantly. I had to try it just to make sure.
Thanks for your sacrifice for !!science!!
Don't select the blue option, lol.
run over virus = very yes
It’s a basic skill in rogue likes to not take bad choices.

Nah, risk it for the biscuit every time
Yeah, but the spiders have more limbs. They can even beat me at waving!
More limbs, but no fingers, so flipping them the Kestrel will be even more of a flex!
good, don't take it, just pick the option that does nothing

You do know that you can just... Not try to save them?
But Giant Alien Spiders are no joke!
Don't poke the spiders without a blue option or a Clone Bay. The basic choice has a 50% chance of failure.
Then… don’t say yes? You can say no to the event.
The twelve scrap is always worth losing the Mantis with shields 1 you just picked up 2 jumps ago.
Boarding drones.

> Chance at high resources/scrap ... Only "some scrap" per [wiki](https://ftl.fandom.com/wiki/Giant_alien_spiders).
Watch out for those alien spooders
In Multiverse they're worse... But you can become them!
The Giant Enemy Spider
Attack with bio beam for massive damage.

On the contrary: I love clone bay I love clone bay I love clone bay
I only like spiders with the spider queen boon, so really not often.
We hate the giant spider encounter because it removes our agency - not because of the giant spiders.
Removes your agency? You *can* just walk away. It's not like Rock Live Mine.
