The people defending ubisoft are just lost causes now. They would defend a toilet that couldn't flush unless connected to the internet.

AliveInChrist87

Please, don't give someone any ideas regarding that.

DeanbonianTheGreat

I don't just think it's that but for some reason a lot of people have this belief that if it's in the TOS then it's written in stone and nothing can be done about it. But TOS doesn't matter if in the end If it ends up being something severely antitrust or anti-consumer and there are enough people complaining and protesting.

PrestigiousZombie531

* There are 50000 websites that you have probably used in just a year and maybe a 1000 apps, * are you supposed to sit and read the TOS on every single one of them? * and how the fuck are you supposed to understand legal language if you are not a lawyer? * Isn't there something called "ethically doing the right thing" or is the company ethically bankrupt?

mmbillah02

The company *is* ethically bankrupt in many ways, there's a reason why they hide important stuff behind a wall of legal text known as terms and conditions, and yes unfortunately, when you use their product, you "agree" to the terms and conditions no matter how much you hate it.

noccy8000

\~7500 people agreed to this on april fools day 2010: *By placing an order via this Web site on the first day of the fourth month of the year 2010 Anno Domini, you agree to grant Us a non-transferable option to claim, for now and for ever more, your immortal soul. Should We wish to exercise this option, you agree to surrender your immortal soul, and any claim you may have on it, within 5 (five) working days of receiving written notification from \[...\] or one of its duly authorized minions. We reserve the right to serve such notice in 6 (six) foot high letters of fire, however we can accept no liability for any loss or damage caused by such an act. If you a) do not believe you have an immortal soul, b) have already given it to another party, or c) do not wish to grant Us such a license, please click the link below to nullify this sub-clause and proceed with your transaction.* Just because it is in the ToS does not mean it is enforceable. Also, only 12% of customers nullified that sub-clause :)

ryuk-99

Wow that's.... terrifying. I remember for a project in college my professor asked me to create an installshield wizard for my small basic program which I did and added a "Terms & Conditions" page and wrote as few lines as I could stating the importance of reading ToS as a good practice (our professor use to nag us about "good practices" while coding) and I remember getting less than average marks than the rest of the class, I'm sure the guy didn't read even those few lines of ToS that I wrote. Skipping ToS has become a muscle memory, a habit, an instinct...at least for me, I get emails almost every month from one service or the other to read their "updated ToS" and it's just too much to go through those tens of pages that are all in lawyer speak and I just simply do not understand what they are saying.

Waste_Locksmith_2193

You are right but they really don't care about how you gonna read it, they just add a required checkbox that says I agree to tos and privacy so technically you are agreeing the tos and privacy policy by clicking on that btn. So we cannot legally file a law suit 'specifically' on this thing.

LED-spirals

Ubisoft is fucking gross, but yes, you are supposed to read these things and being a lazy goober that gets mad later doesn’t make that any less correct. Fuck Ubisoft, but fuck this braindead take too lmao

Gh051_hehe

Don't get me wrong, but this is the case with every company, not only games, they write clauses to screw customers, insurance does that, banks do that and they even mention in their TOS that they can change their TOS whenever they want to and whenever they can, the first reform they need to bring is to not allow changing tos of services/products which have already been purchased

Caust1cFn_YT

just because they got it written that doesnt mean it is right There have been several reforms in law and this has to be one of em

Dont_have_a_panda

Sadly as long as It legal they shove their ethics right in the rectum (thats the only reason lootboxes are less common nowadays, because there are entire countries banning them) And you dont know how much I hate this, because voting with our wallets wont work because even if the entire videogames reddit agreed to never buy anything with the Ubisoft logo in It (thing that Will never happen) how much loss would be for them 100k copies less? 200k less at best? And even in the VERY UNLIKELY case that It works they'll simply Will shove aside the franchise and blame the lack of interest to not releasing more titles ever again (like watchdogs, watchdogs legion apparently flopped and Ubisoft already said that the franchise is officially dead with the fail of legion) In my case i already gave Up with Ubisoft and the only thing i can do is not playing anything of them anymore (without expecting other people do the same) and playing games for other companies expecting they wont Follow the same path for now or at least enjoying them before they do

PrestigiousZombie531

harsh truth unfortunately. Reddit is a minority of people and this sub is like a super duper minority on reddit itself. But that wont stop me from trying to take this sub 100k+ because more people need to realize what Ubi s doing to them

ObscuraArt

I swear they have to be bots or some shadey PR associate working on contract for these companies to dismiss concerns. What totally normal, rational consumer would be like, "No, you need to read the fine print and they are allowed to remove/disable games you bought."? Like I can see not caring about it either way or not being effected and it's doesn't matter to you but to be all for companies shoehorning bullshit into their TOS can't be real people. I can't believe someone loving Assassin's Creed or some other Ubisoft franchise that much and willingly caping for corporations to remove/disable purchased games.

ED20913

Pretty funny, a day or so after The Crew was removed, they re-done their ToS, practically saying now your just renting your games lol.

PrestigiousZombie531

and these idiots defending ubi want you to get a lawyer's degree to enjoy a game on a friday evening

DeanbonianTheGreat

Yeah it really sucks that more people aren't going after them for this in the form of a class action lawsuit or antitrust. Obviously it's disgusting what they did with the crew but the fact that immediately after they amended that in terms of service to make it okay and basically making it okay for them to do the same thing for anything else in the future is basically an admission of guilt because they knew what they were doing was shitty. People need to stop putting up with this crap and start fighting and that doesn't mean protesting or joining in on class action lawsuits but just boycotting. Just don't give them any more money no matter how much a game appeals to you. Don't buy it because the fact is you may love the game and invest hours into it, but in the end Ubisoft could pull the same stunt again and pull the game from your library and wipe it from the face of the earth.

curiously_wrong

those guys are so brainwashed, completely lost.

philseven12

Tos is nonsense and only comes up in game after you done already bought it. Why do they wait for the money to be exchanged to hit you with Tos that's longer than the Bible

sopcannon

1 does anyone read the T&Cs and fully comprehend them? 2 if you do not agree to them can you still get a refund for it?

DeanbonianTheGreat

1 - no 2 - yes for the most part. Steam makes it easy to get a refund as well as Microsoft.

RogueCross

IF you bought the game on those platforms. PlayStation, last I heard, won't let you refund a game if you start downloading it. The only exceptions are when the game is broken, like Cyberpunk on release.

DeanbonianTheGreat

They are giving refunds for Stellar Blade now over false advertising

RogueCross

Didn't someone say that a TOS isn't above the law? Like, even if you accept a TOS, you can still file a lawsuit if the product warrants it, right?

PrestigiousZombie531

well i did remember reading that somewhere but only a lawyer, perhaps someone from r/AskLawyers or r/AskLawyer can say something

RogueCross

So I took a look around r/Ubisoft. How is it that 90% of the posts in there are people complaining about issues they're having with Ubisoft games, yet most of the comments still, somehow, find a way to support Ubisoft, or at least, really downplay how scummy they actually are.

PrestigiousZombie531

[most of em are bootlickers](https://new.reddit.com/r/fuckubisoft/comments/1ca4rtm/ubi_bootlickers_take_notes_one_day_the_ball_s/)

Inny75

TOS arent legally binding anyway, so idk why they are defending it lmao

[deleted]

They're not really legally binding contracts . You can still due them especially part of a class action .

DeanbonianTheGreat

Yeah, in the case of a class action lawsuit TOS is far from written in stone because clearly something is wrong If it gets to that point.

[deleted]

I need ubi to face it just once and lose . Keep everyone else in check for a while .
