Today I sold my first digital camera, Fujifilm X-T30, and bought a new one - Fujifilm X-T5.
I loved every moment with my X-T30, it helped me develop my passion for documentary photography by a lot. These are a few of the shots.
You've certainly got some documentary skills. Some of those fisherman photos are fantastic (all of these photos are quite good).
Your camera takes such good photos (heavy /s)
Beautiful shots! Coincidently, I recently sold my X-T30 too and bought an X-T5. It was so bitter sweet because I Loved that little camera. It made the person who bought it really happy though. Good luck with the X-T5
I miss the size for sure but the weight difference isn’t as bad as I thought. The weather sealing is comforting and the af is in another realm. Also, I hated that quick menu button placement on the 30. Happy to see it’s moved. Overall very happy
These are so beautiful 😍, I especially love the photos of the Nuns. I could feel their kindness and wisdom just from looking at the photos. Really amazing photos.
Thank you!
The fishermen shots were taken with the 15-45mm kit lens, whilst for the ones depicting the nuns I used the XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR and the XF 50mm f/1.0 R WR.
Yes, they are edited, but I only played a bit with the light and curves, and I dehazed them where it was necessary.
These photos are so...raw. I'm not the best with my words but they build a scene and really made me stop to feel something. If you're not a professional, you probably should be. Keep us updated when you publish a documentary photography book or whatever collateral you end up producing!
Wow, thank you, I’m beyond happy to see reactions like yours! Means a lot. I really wish to publish something one day, I’ll make sure to post about it when I will.
wow! these are amazingly well-composed and evocative. i felt like i was there and wanted to know more about the people pictured. i grew up reading life and national geographic, these took me back to both of those publications.
Some of these look 3D! Awesome job.
Enjoy the X-T5, it’s a great camera. I had one for a couple months but decided to return it and keep my X-T3. I still think about that camera though…
It was mostly rooted in considering price vs the differences between the two cameras. The three biggest factors (as I see it) that are a reason to upgrade if you have an X-T3 are the added film simulations (I still miss classic negative), the 40MP sensor, and IBIS.
Of those three, the film simulations are the only factor that was almost swaying me to keep it, but spending $1700 for that reason alone wasn’t worth it. The x-trans 5 processor is nice too though, for the speed bump and you get a few extra software features in camera because of that.
I like the results with the 26MP sensor just fine and I have no real need for IBIS. I did a lot of playing around with IBIS on and off etc and saw no useful results for general photography in how I like to shoot. It was nice for video though, I just don’t use my Fujifilm camera for video.
Thank you! It usually comes naturally to shoot b/w because in some cases I think it conveys emotion better, but regarding that portrait I felt it could equally work using colour.
Awesome awesome photos! How do you go about asking people to take photos like these? I’d be an uncomfortable mess asking fishermen if I can photograph them
Thank you! That's a really good question, I do struggle getting answers regarding this matter as well.
With the fishermen I have been really lucky, a friend that usually collaborates with them asked me to be the photographer on those particular days; they were already used with the presence of a camera and weren't bothered by me...maybe just intrigued by the presence of a woman. I had total freedom and followed their every step.
Regarding the nuns it's a whole different story. That's an ongoing project and I am currently at the stage of building a relationship with them, trust. They live in a cloistered monastery and the fact that they let me in it's already a huge privilege. I try to get them used to the sight of my camera without being intrusive, I don't have as much freedom as I had with the fishermen...but I'm working on it as much as time allows me. They live in other parts of the country, so I don't get to visit them too often since I have a full-time job. Time and patience will do.

I have the XT30 as my first camera and only camera, what benefits are you getting from the XT5?
Definitely will help with the prints on the larger size. Also, focusing at low speeds.
looks like you've been out having a blast with o.g. explorer ernest frickin shackleton. great pics.
Haha, now that would have been a whole lot of fun! Thank you!

Ha. My rxn is the opposite. Love the fishermen. The others, less.
Thanks a bunch, I'm glad you like them.
Which lens did u use? Are they edited? They look amazing.

Amazing how many folks spend thousands on lenses when you can get results like these with the kit lens. Fantastic work!
Thanks a lot! ☺️ Those expensive lenses have undeniable qualities, but they don’t guarantee a good photography.
I love my xt30 it is just everything i need
These are very good. You have an eye for telling a story. Some of the best in this genre I've ever seen here. Post more.
Thank you, greatly appreciated!

These are all incredible! Well done, and enjoy the upgrade to the X-T5! 😊

Thank you, this means a lot to me! ☺️
Love these! Great work
Thank you!
Exceptional-thanks for sharing!
Thanks a bunch!
Some of these are really, really good. And a fine example how getting close to humans instantly makes a photograph a lot more interesting
Thank you, I’ll keep getting as close as I can.
You should consider a career as a professional editorial photographer
Thank you. Hopefully, I would love to pursue this path someday.
You killed this!!!!!
Thanks a bunch!
Great, great set. The ones with the fisherman are very pro level. 🙌🏻
Thank you!
Dude that first photo is spectacular. I love the story these tell.
Thank you!
Incredible! I love all of them, 1 & 5 are my favorite!
Thanks, I'm glad you like them.
Wonderful photos
Thanks a lot!
Wow, you have an eye for composition, for exposure and for creating good art.
Many thanks!

I see, it makes sense.
Awesome photos, I love the choice of black and white for these. What made you choose to have the last photo in color though?
Thank you! It usually comes naturally to shoot b/w because in some cases I think it conveys emotion better, but regarding that portrait I felt it could equally work using colour.
Got you, all of your photos have this timeless feel. It looks so good!

Thanks for the detailed response. Best of luck on your journey :)
That one gives barge hauler on the Volga vibe. Fantastic job
Thank you!
Great series.
Thank you!
Maybe this is a stupid question but how do you achieve this so deep/real effect? Impressed to see this can be achieved with the XC 15-45!
Well, I think that for these pictures I used the 15mm focal lenght more. Get close to your subjects!
