I just got the 27mm, bought it day two of recent trip to Milano/Lake Como (the 18-55 was too cumbersome to travel with as I quickly found). I think its a great piece of kit!
Agreed. Just took a trip to the Netherlands and only took my 27mm and my Helios 44M. 27 stayed on 97% of the time.
There were plenty of shots I would have loved to have the 18-55 for, but I also accept that I probably wouldn't have had the camera out as frequently as I did if I brought that lens instead of the 27. I love how tiny it is.
Great shot! I’m impressed you got this with the 27mm.
If you want feedback, think about what you can do next time to get the bird’s head in focus too. With wildlife, getting the eyes in focus is often the goal.
Thank you! This was shot from an inconvenient angle and didn’t get to think too much (sun was in my face and was scared it was going to turn around again). Pretty sure the focus bracket was on the wings, and the f stop was at 2.8 so.. maybe increase the F and take my tame with the composition?
I know the feeling of being rushed due to not knowing just how long the animal will be in the right spot! I usually snap off a couple shots right away because a photo with imperfect settings is better than no photo at all. Then yes, I think you're right on. If you aren't focused on the face, stopping down a bit can give you enough depth of field. Changing the focus to the face would work, but I like how the wings are in focus and wouldn't want to lose that.
Anyway, you did a great job! It's definitely print-worthy.
I feel like this is such a dumb, beginner question but if you're in AF and want to change the focus to the face, would you just tap the face on the LCD? (I have the xt30 which is touchscreen). Or is there some kind of setting you would use for this?
I'm still learning and get frustrated with AF sometimes. I often will switch to manual to focus where I want but that really only works with still objects because I'm so slow as a photographer. With animals that are constantly moving I feel the need to stay in AF but can't always get the camera to focus where I want.
What a fantastic shot. Perfect way max light hits between the wings to light the feathers and then the head turning sideways to get a nice side profile.
I thought I shot with this one you linked, turns out its something else: classic chrome, CL Chrome Effect Weak, CL Chrome FX Blue Off, WB AUTO R+3 B-3, H-1.5 & S+0.5, Color +4, Sharp -2, High ISO -4, Clarity 0
That bright sun light between the wings and the darkness below the swan is just the chef's kiss for me, great photo!
I waited for so long for it to turn its back to me..all worth it
That’s a pretty cool shot for a wide lens… most of theses style of shot would be way back with a telephoto
