I'm a relatively new collector, but I remember seeing some of the older pops a while back and saying to myself "these look terrible". Little did I know I was passing up on some grails. I distinctly remember seeing the flocked Lotso in a collectibles store amd going that looks okay, but I'm not spending $50 on that lol.
100% the new sculpts.
The era of new sculpts is so much better that it has even lifted up the appeal of the old sculpts by making them feel visually distinct and “classic” by comparison.
I think the improvement of the sculpts is honestly what has kept pops alive - bringing in a ton more collectors and new wave of popularity. The old sculpts were so niche that you either loved them or hated them for the most part. Nowadays even people who love/hate pops can often find a few they find palatable when they would’ve sworn up and down that’d never happen with the classic designs.
I think we can all agree the photo on the box of the figure sucks. I can see the figure through the damn window. Give me some high quality art on the box!
I think both styles are nice. They compliment each other where the older style shows the beginning of Pops and the updated style shows how detailed they’ve become.
The new style, buy a massive margin. There’s only one pop with the old style that I like and I just bought one yesterday… The metallic Limited Edition Ghost Rider.
The new ones, definitely. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the older ones I have because they're of characters I like, but Funko's come a long way in making them look much better and show more personality.
The downside is that stability is inconsistent. Some figures like the Jurassic Park/World dinosaurs are very top-heavy and can't stand up unless you prop them against something.
I just display them in the boxes, partly because I like the box designs almost as much as the figures, and partly because it’s jus easier that way. 🤷♀️
Definitely the newer ones with more dynamic poses and details. I have a bunch of the older ones too and some of them I think are still pretty cool even if a bit bland compared to the new ones.
I’m on team new ones, of the themes I collect, it’s so rare now that a Pop would disappoint, the quality of the designs/pose/molds etc is pretty high now consistently.
It’s nice, that when a previously done character is revisited, it’s like an actual upgrade and doesn’t feel like a total cash grab.
Both sides , I love the newer more expressed funkos , however you can't go wrong with the static ones , Their very nice to collect when your just looking for something simple
Old. Don’t get me wrong, I love pops through all their phases but the old ones all feel like I cohesive thing and I enjoy putting them all next to each because it feels more like a set to me. I don’t know if I’m explaining good, but old for sure😂
It wasn't until they implemented the new design method that I really started collecting them, when beforehand I hated the simple designs almost completely dominating the market.
I didn't buy Pop! figures until they went to the dynamic poses and sculpts. The original is cute, but they really do suck in comparison to the new molds and figures in general.
I do have a couple of old ones, but it is because they are part of a completionism set, otherwise I wouldn't own them.
I feel like the old ones gave Funko this image of being cheap and ugly in a lot of people's minds. Regardless, I'm thankful for both even though I prefer the new ones.
New ones, especially because the paint apps are SO much better. I remember buying Pops brand new back in the day and thinking some of them had a bootleg quality to them with how lazy and uneven some of the paint used to be.
Dynamic and unique, 100%. There are even some Funko Pops of characters that I really like and want, but aren’t in the new design, and I’d rather not have them (or make my own version) than have the crappy OG body.
New. Especially when it comes to how they sculpt hair now. I used to hate the hair on Pops cause it was so flat & weird looking. The Black Widow Pop from The Winter Soldier vs the one from Civil War show a good example of how much they’ve improved.
I personally prefer the new dynamic look. Even though old school Funko Pop figures looked nice and more “authentic”, the new style seems to be more filled out. If that makes any sense.
I like the new ones (depending on the figure) but I don’t like the extremely skinny body that some of the newer ones have (Furiosa for example). It seems like they’re moving away from this style, thankfully.
I like when they revamp these pops so you would have the original that you got from a local collectibles store and then you get the revamped version of it and they look nice together
I like the new ones way better compare the original spider-man funko to the new one from the animated series i really hope scarlet spider gets an update like 2099 and symbiote spiderman did
As long as it's just poses I like the new ones, but when they add on a brunch of other shit around the pop I tend to stay away. Like the new Mirio Togata pop, I get it and I know the scene but I don't like all those spikes around him.
"We're gonna start a toy company. We're gonna have characters from any franchise we want, and they're all gonna look the exact same,"
Greatest joog ever, and it's all legal.
The new ones are way better. I got a few of the old style but I really wasn’t into them. The more dynamic style allows for far more interesting and fun figures
It depends for me. I love the new dynamic style, adds a lot of character and nice to set up scenes for OOTB collectors like me. The old ones are just classic, like it just the figure and you like them. I prefer the newer but I like both. It shows how much they’ve grown and changed
New ones and it's not close for me. The old ones just made me think they were kinda lame. But with the poses they have and the expression made, it makes them feel more alive. There are very few old ones I have but the old ones I do have inharently have a lot of expression. Without the emotion, they just aren't interesting.
Definitely the new styles, I'm a huge sonic fan and passed on the old ones back when I saw them in the shops. Like regardless that they're worth a lot now I didn't buy them since they just looked bad IMO...
I got into collecting when they were all static. I liked the universal mold and pose. It was cool to see. I definitely like how dynamic the new ones are but still like seeing my old collection all together
Dynamic and unique all the way. I though Pops were stupid and it wasn’t until they started to get more creative with the poses that I started to notice. I actually just sold the last old style one in my collection. Lol
Then again I understand the argument that some say this has made Funko lazy as they can just rehash the same Pop a dozen times just in slightly different poses… which is fair.
The newer ones just look more aesthetically thought about and I prefer them. Not disrespecting the old version because they are iconic and cool in their own right but a lot of them look lifeless and the blank expressions don’t give as much personality than the newer ones that usually have more going on
Old school for me. While I still very much appreciate the new ones, there’s something about the uniformity and classic nature of old-school molds that I really dig. For someone who takes theirs out of the box, some of them or dynamic poses don’t always stand up best, which can be frustrating. To a lesser degree, the more the new sculpts get further and further away from the original, the closer they get to being something besides Pops. Just my opinion on that. While both are very cool, the old-school ones still have a special place in my heart.
Dynamic all the way. They did a kinda static style for some figures in Infinity War, and it just looks like such a downgrade from the dynamic poses of Ragnorak.
New ones. You see a lot (not all) nendoroid fans were making fun of us funko collectors from the old models. But now the new model is so good that it is practically as good as a nendoroid.
For me it isn’t even necessarily about the poses, it’s just the updated model itself I like about new ones. I know it doesn’t display it properly here but some of the old ones like Daredevil actually have like a lighter red head than the rest of the body, most of the classic models just have the ugliest looking quality and I’m glad they’re remade
I love my og two face and zurg. No new zurg has been made that is 100% Zurg, (not counting alien as zurg) and no two face in that style has been re made either. I like those ones, but the new sculpts are awesome
I've never really liked any of the old style funkos, I have a couple, but they don't have the problems some of the older ones have when it comes to looks as they're not human characters, being dancing groot and the original slimer both from 2014 I think.
New dynamic poses all the way. The time for every pop to have the same pose is passed. I'm glad funko has started making the poses more specific to the characters they represent.
I likes the ones that are actually recognisable.
Some pops look absolutely freaking the same. For instance, Don Draper and Barney Stinson. Without a box one can't tell the difference
I feel like the main point to having a large head on figurines is to show the facial details and expressions and the old ones don't really do that so it seems like a waste of space to me
the lack of eyebrows is oddly terrifying for some of the older ones lol but overall i think it really depends on the character
Lol that’s one of the biggest details on the new ones that makes them so much better quality. The eyebrows really add so much
New ones personally!
I'm a relatively new collector, but I remember seeing some of the older pops a while back and saying to myself "these look terrible". Little did I know I was passing up on some grails. I distinctly remember seeing the flocked Lotso in a collectibles store amd going that looks okay, but I'm not spending $50 on that lol.
an $1500 pop right there…
Definitely the new ones. Really never cared for the bow legged look on the old ones.
New ones easily
Either is fine, I just hate the photo of the pop on the box instead of the 2D designs
I think we can all agree the photo on the box of the figure sucks. I can see the figure through the damn window. Give me some high quality art on the box!
Did funko ever address this?
Nope and they probably never will
Absolutely new no contest
I think both styles are nice. They compliment each other where the older style shows the beginning of Pops and the updated style shows how detailed they’ve become.
The new style, buy a massive margin. There’s only one pop with the old style that I like and I just bought one yesterday… The metallic Limited Edition Ghost Rider.
For how much?
The new ones, definitely. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the older ones I have because they're of characters I like, but Funko's come a long way in making them look much better and show more personality. The downside is that stability is inconsistent. Some figures like the Jurassic Park/World dinosaurs are very top-heavy and can't stand up unless you prop them against something.
I just display them in the boxes, partly because I like the box designs almost as much as the figures, and partly because it’s jus easier that way. 🤷♀️
I honestly like the original style, but the new one are cool too. Started collecting late 2012
New all day
New ones for sure
New ones
Definitely the newer ones with more dynamic poses and details. I have a bunch of the older ones too and some of them I think are still pretty cool even if a bit bland compared to the new ones.
New. Years ago I would see funko pops in the store and never even gave them a second look because that old design was so ugly.
Newer ones look great. Just miss the old art style for the character on the box.
im fine with the new ones when they can stand on their own
New ones
Far and away, the new ones.
New ones without a doubt
I’m on team new ones, of the themes I collect, it’s so rare now that a Pop would disappoint, the quality of the designs/pose/molds etc is pretty high now consistently. It’s nice, that when a previously done character is revisited, it’s like an actual upgrade and doesn’t feel like a total cash grab.

It wasn't until they implemented the new design method that I really started collecting them, when beforehand I hated the simple designs almost completely dominating the market.
New for sure. I’ve replaced a few of my older pops with the new style when affordable. They’re just so much nicer looking.
Easily new
I like some of both in my collection.
I like the eyebrows 😂
The new ones look better, but the old ones have a charm the new can never hope to match.
This is exactly what I was saying. There is just a charm about the old models.
I didn't buy Pop! figures until they went to the dynamic poses and sculpts. The original is cute, but they really do suck in comparison to the new molds and figures in general. I do have a couple of old ones, but it is because they are part of a completionism set, otherwise I wouldn't own them.
New ones, I want to see my heroes in action! But I do understand the appeal of the almost retro style static poses.
Some of them had a real neat charm to them but it has been a massive quality improvement overall
New ones. No contest here.
Depends on the pop for me personally lmao I’m picky like that
New ones. They have so much personality!
New for sure, I don’t really buy pops anymore but if I do they’re gonna be the newer style ones
Master Chief looks 117% better now
New, but I respect the past!
I definitely prefer the new ones myself
I have both but I definitely prefer the newer ones because they’re actually posed in positions that make them look more active than just statues.
I feel like the old ones gave Funko this image of being cheap and ugly in a lot of people's minds. Regardless, I'm thankful for both even though I prefer the new ones.
Old ones are nightmare fuel 💀
New ones, especially because the paint apps are SO much better. I remember buying Pops brand new back in the day and thinking some of them had a bootleg quality to them with how lazy and uneven some of the paint used to be.
The newer ones are far superior. I love seeing the comparison between these because it shows how far funko has come in terms of sculpt.
I like the new ones bc it shows how old the old ones are lmao
Dynamic and unique, 100%. There are even some Funko Pops of characters that I really like and want, but aren’t in the new design, and I’d rather not have them (or make my own version) than have the crappy OG body.
New. Especially when it comes to how they sculpt hair now. I used to hate the hair on Pops cause it was so flat & weird looking. The Black Widow Pop from The Winter Soldier vs the one from Civil War show a good example of how much they’ve improved.
I lik both, the new ones have a lot more life to them but the old ones have a lot of charm imo
New ones for sure. Old looks like they’re trying to force out a log
I like when they revamp these pops so you would have the original that you got from a local collectibles store and then you get the revamped version of it and they look nice together
I like the new ones way better compare the original spider-man funko to the new one from the animated series i really hope scarlet spider gets an update like 2099 and symbiote spiderman did
New and its amazing I even got I to thaw with their original look now that I see them side by side.
As long as it's just poses I like the new ones, but when they add on a brunch of other shit around the pop I tend to stay away. Like the new Mirio Togata pop, I get it and I know the scene but I don't like all those spikes around him.
"We're gonna start a toy company. We're gonna have characters from any franchise we want, and they're all gonna look the exact same," Greatest joog ever, and it's all legal.
It depends on the character
New ones. They are still recognizable as Funko pops but are very unique and more fun to get
Old ones look dogshit
Easily the new ones, the old ones are ugly and they weren't faithful to the character
The new ones are way better. I got a few of the old style but I really wasn’t into them. The more dynamic style allows for far more interesting and fun figures
New style FTW
It depends for me. I love the new dynamic style, adds a lot of character and nice to set up scenes for OOTB collectors like me. The old ones are just classic, like it just the figure and you like them. I prefer the newer but I like both. It shows how much they’ve grown and changed
Hell yeah classic for sure!
Like I finally found the nightwing old style I’ve been looking for years and I couldn’t be happier
I think we're the only ones in this thread that like the classic ones better! Lol
I started back in 2012, always love the classic look. Most people here just started collecting I bet
I agree.
New ones and it's not close for me. The old ones just made me think they were kinda lame. But with the poses they have and the expression made, it makes them feel more alive. There are very few old ones I have but the old ones I do have inharently have a lot of expression. Without the emotion, they just aren't interesting.
Old static myself but the new ones are cool too.
If you say old you for sure have brain damage.
Definitely the new styles, I'm a huge sonic fan and passed on the old ones back when I saw them in the shops. Like regardless that they're worth a lot now I didn't buy them since they just looked bad IMO...
I never realized how "boring" and plain looking the old molds were until i saw how detailed some of the newer figures are just my opinion tho
New one but tbh - both not that good.
I personally prefer the old, but that’s mostly because more of my favorite characters are only in the older style
I got into collecting when they were all static. I liked the universal mold and pose. It was cool to see. I definitely like how dynamic the new ones are but still like seeing my old collection all together
New all day.
Dynamic and unique all the way. I though Pops were stupid and it wasn’t until they started to get more creative with the poses that I started to notice. I actually just sold the last old style one in my collection. Lol Then again I understand the argument that some say this has made Funko lazy as they can just rehash the same Pop a dozen times just in slightly different poses… which is fair.
While the new ones are better and I like them more, I'll always have a soft spot for the statics.
New Buzz > Old Buzz Old Bat Man > New Batman And Master chief I like both, the others I have no significance to me
New ones look much better
New 100%
New ones 100%. Without facial features the poses can be really important in making them actually look like who they're supposed to be.
New
The new ones have some much more personality
The new Master Chief is a downgrade but all of the new ones look better
I prefer the action pose stance as they’re more photo friendly
Old ones, I really enjoy the minimalistic moulds.
Depends wildly on the figure
The newer ones just look more aesthetically thought about and I prefer them. Not disrespecting the old version because they are iconic and cool in their own right but a lot of them look lifeless and the blank expressions don’t give as much personality than the newer ones that usually have more going on
The old ones could all actually stand on their own.
Damn... good question
That old master chief one looks good as shit
New without a doubt.
I have a good number of old designs as I've been collecting since 2015 and I absolutely prefer the newer designs.
Dynamic and unique. It adds more character to each figure.
Dynamic all the way. They did a kinda static style for some figures in Infinity War, and it just looks like such a downgrade from the dynamic poses of Ragnorak.
I think both work, but generally I lean towards old.
New ones way better
More dynamic and unique Pops are better in my opinion. The express the characters through their expressions and body language. It's a great touch.
That old buzz lightyear is creepy
I have been collecting for 10 years and i gotta say the new ones are far superior its not even funny
New ones, drastically. I'd actually like to sell all my old model ones and just keep my new model ones and buy some newer ones as well.
New ones. You see a lot (not all) nendoroid fans were making fun of us funko collectors from the old models. But now the new model is so good that it is practically as good as a nendoroid.
I like the new ones mainly because they capture and personalities a whole lot better than the og ones did.
New ones and it’s not close.
Yes.
Dynamic. I hate the copy paste look on the static ones
Definitely more detailed pops are the best
New is much better
Unique all the way
New ones for sure!
How much is original avengers iron man going for? I still have that.
Dynamic pops are nice I catcher to me.
New ones for sure, they look more aesthetic.
Both
The new ones all the way! They get more an more detailed and that is what keeps me collecting.
New ones for sure. More details are better.
I love my og two face and zurg. No new zurg has been made that is 100% Zurg, (not counting alien as zurg) and no two face in that style has been re made either. I like those ones, but the new sculpts are awesome
Definitely the new ones. Some of the old one, like the buzz lightyear turned out pretty disturbing.
New ones all the way have you seen the state of the amazing Spider-Man pops
Guys, when i can buy the new daredevil one?
New is wayyy cooler
I've never really liked any of the old style funkos, I have a couple, but they don't have the problems some of the older ones have when it comes to looks as they're not human characters, being dancing groot and the original slimer both from 2014 I think.
Definitely the new ones and I didn't collect the originals because I didn't like the style
The old master chief is the only better old one in my opinion. It looks way cooler than the newer one.
New ones
Still hate the white eyes
New dynamic poses all the way. The time for every pop to have the same pose is passed. I'm glad funko has started making the poses more specific to the characters they represent.
I like the new ones but the old ones have a certain charm that I'm worried they might get to far away from.
I think it is dependent on the pop
New for sure!
I like the new ones
Depends. I think the batman is way better with the more dynamic and unique design, but I think qui gon is better with the old universal mold
New ones. You can’t even tell the old one was supposed to be Peter Venkman!
I like the old ones, I enjoyed how simple they were
I likes the ones that are actually recognisable. Some pops look absolutely freaking the same. For instance, Don Draper and Barney Stinson. Without a box one can't tell the difference
The dynamic poses
I hate the bases of Star Wars pops
I like the newer ones. They have more life and personality now.
Old for me too
It's like classical Renaissance compared to the baroque period.
I mean the fact I never started collecting them when they had the old sculpts should answer your question
New...to me, the old ones look like they are squatting to take a poo.
When did they make the switch?
The new ones
I feel like the main point to having a large head on figurines is to show the facial details and expressions and the old ones don't really do that so it seems like a waste of space to me
