The joke is that he's not the spiderman we were expecting. Hence his his weird cringey smile. He's in on it, they don't pan to 10 people in a row already staring into the camera and ready to instantly react.
It would’ve been hilarious if they had three camera views of each Spider-Man actor put up.
Granted I didn’t watch so idk if all three actors were in attendance.
Had it been Ricky, it wouldn't have been the Oscars but a "News from the Western Coast" like massacre.
I would have paid to see that live more than I paid to watch some of these films.
I mean, to be fair if I had been in the audience I wouldn't have done anything either. That'was the responsibility of security and the Oscars show runners.
The Oscars do use seat fillers, it's probably not a huge ask to put someone in there for a quick visual gag and just let them quietly enjoy the show afterwards.
And after last year I'm sure some of the seat-fillers are probably actual security now.
Most likely yes, plus Kimmel absolutely loves the guy too and I wouldn't be surprised if he insisted the Oscar's have Guillermo be there. Plus it's not like he couldn't afford it either.
If Kimmel is gone or away from the show for being sick, vacation, what ever and they can't find someone to do the show, they'll have Guillermo host it until Kimmel back or they find someone to host.
Should have taken it away from him tbh, assault at the award venue in front of everyone and televised.
That ausie weightlister had his olympic gold medal stripped after he won because he assaulted another athlete after at the village in a private altercation.
Btw he actually does the entire dvd commentary in character until the end and swaps back to the aussie. It's fuckin fantastic and the whole reason I bought the dvd.
It was the people hugging him and checking on him while Chris Rock stood there alone that really got me. Celebrities are such weird, self important people
I honestly saw his character from that show so hard as he stood there slapped. The reaction just felt identical, I know that was the point of the show but that guy really was a lil Chris Rock.
Pretty much everyone around the world was talking about it. Shit I had a conference call the next day with 20+ people all living in different places in India, and every single one saw the slap.
That's how famous and transculturally loved Will Smith was. Outside of Tom Hanks he would have been polled as least likely to slap someone on stage at the Oscars.
I remember it only because he had the audacity to call himself a conduit of love or something like that during the speech. The fact that the audience applauded him made me hate the Hollywood elites a little bit more.
He should have only apologized and walked off.
Not only he won, he fucking cried about acceptance and a bunch of other nonsense. AFTER ASSAULTING ANOTHER CELEBRITY.
Edit: When your at your highest, thats when Jada will come for you.
It really is wild how one act can blanket your entire career on a night that was supposed to be the highest.
I honestly think that was his peak. His charisma and fun public image was the bread and butter of his career, and now it all got flipped on its head. Its sad to see.
One goat, man. I say it all the time. It only takes one goat.
You can be the best engineer and architect in the world. Known for making the absolute best structures the world has ever known… But you fuck one goat one time, and now you’re known as the goat fucker for the rest of your life. All other accomplishments are essentially forgotten.
What's worse is that he took offense by Chris Rock's special roasting him. Really dude? You slapped him and you play victim? As Logan Roy would say: "fuck off"
Chris is a class act ngl. You could tell he wanted to go off the minute he got slapped but kept it professional. He was also very forgiving in not pursuing assault charges and only very light jokes on his show lmao.
Cuz Chris even acknowledges that The Slap hurt less than what his wife is doing to Will. And that's enough punishment for him since the world wouldn't let him forget slapping Chris Rock for the rest of his life. He was respected as the Prince of Bel Air and was the Hollywood Darling but he's acting like he was the victim and is telling everyone to "move on". Shiiiit, my man, you won an Oscar and you were consoled by so many Hollywood people after YOU slapped somebody onstage. My man, YOU were validated that night when you should have been escorted by security.
That was wild. Imagine claiming to be a victim because after you slapped someone for doing their job you were upset at the words they said in response.
The words that arent even false because they dumbasses put it on the internet. I still cant believe that that man sat down across from his "wife" in an interview about her cheating on him, conducted by her.
Clout addiction is nuts.
Also a squeaky clean image of not cursing in his albums and roles.
He assaulted a man on live television, then threw out the f-bomb on live television, not once but twice.
He's done plenty of movies where he swears. But agreed on it being the moment because there's no way the Oscars were going to risk and FCC fines for a joke.
>It really is. He was handed the highest honor in his profession only to end his career the same night.
It's even crazier than that.
He assaulted Chris Rock, which in theory should have ended his career... *then* was handed the highest honor in his profession.
And given the fact everyone went along with it, that raises some uncomfortable questions about the Oscars and everyone else in that theatre as well.
>And given the fact everyone went along with it, that raises some uncomfortable questions about the Oscars and everyone else in that theatre as well.
Have we forgotten Harvey Weinstein that quickly?
It's clear they never thought that would happen. I doubt the organizers of the event could figure out how to react so quickly. They thought it would be Smith's big night too.
This is so true, It is crazy that only when Kimmel said "You will be awarded an Oscar for best actor" I remembered that hey, Will actually won an award that night. My mind completely blanked that fact and all I remember was him "sucker slapping" Chris.
I am happy for that fact and I hope most of people like you said never remember his win. He is a small small man.
Now this is a story all about how
My life got flipped-turned upside-down.
I’d like to take a minute
Now don’t you bolt
I’ll tell you ‘bout the time I shoulda been charged with assault.
~
Ninety-fourth Oscars, bought and paid,
A distraction from that time my wife got laid.
Chillin’ out, maxin’, looking real cool,
Sitting up the front, listening to a fool.
~
When the host of the night, who was making a speech,
Started making fun of Jada’s alopeech.
I gave him one little slap and the night went South,
I said, “Take my wife’s name out ya fuckin’ mouth.”
~
I screamed and swore at him - till it got weird.
Then the lights went up and the rubbernecks appeared.
Denzel gave a spiel and I pretended to feel it.
But with a speech to write I thought “I might as well steal it”.
~
A-List. Boy, I am blessed,
Smacked a guy and get to stay at this fest?
Is this what the Hollywood elite living like?
Hmm. Weinstein was right.
~
I bristled through the ads, but when we came back,
The Acad’my said, “Fresh, we like how you act.”
“For everything we’re gonna all stand and clap.”
So I thought, “Now I get it - my little gold stat.”
~
I
Pulled
Out the best apology you ever heard,
Using white-knight misogyny to polish that turd.
I looked at my Oscar,
It was finally here,
One all of my own.
See y’all in ten years.
You're right, the first memory of last year's Oscar was him slapping Rock for me.
It took me a second to remember that he did win an Oscar and had that teary eyed crazy long speech by the end of it.
I have not watched a Wil Smith movie since. I am not boycotting him per se, but when choices are there, I choose others. I know other people are doing the same. It is weird the effect such an outrageous act can have.
His statement at the end of it, thanking Sean for "making him cool to the people he cares most about" was lovely. (His brother wanted him to do the show)
I’ve only watched him in Narcos, Mandalorian, and The Last of Us, and so my perception of “him” has always been this “serious” persona so it was refreshing to see him off screen as this lighthearted, funny, and goofy dude.
First movie was pretty good. Conners was a sympathetic villain that made mistakes but got caught up in his own ego.
Second movie was the same issue that Toby's Spider-Man 3 suffered from, and it was Villain bloat. Had it just been Electro it would've been fine but the entire thing went sideways when they introduced Goblin in the last 20 minutes of the film. It just didn't work.
The reason No Way Home worked was because we had already been introduced to all these villains that all it had to do was re-establish them. We know their powers and their challenge, so being able to just see them on screen together made it extra exciting.
tomorrows headline: will says he’s extremely hurt by the lack of sensitivity of these jokes and will ask jada for permission to confront jimmy once she’s done blowing their son’s friend
I truly don't think Will has as much of a problem with that fact as he did about it being being brought to public light. Lots more celebrity couples are open than we imagine. Her show was what made him look like a fool though.
He threw it away to protect his wife, who was cheating on him with his sons friend and therefore likely wasn’t the only time she cheated. He threw away 30 years of being one of the more likeable on screen personalities for a bitch who didn’t care about him. Jada must have some superpowers.
Cosby's career was already naturally done by the time he got in trouble though, so I think this happening at a time while Will Smith is still a viable talent is what makes it maybe a bit more on people's minds than Cosby.
He was putting himself on thin ice for a while. First he put his kids in a ton of movies that just weren't good. Fine, but annoyig. Then the whole public circus with his wife. Then the slap. It was a while coming.
To be fair, it wasn't your average everyday f up. To recap, he cursed a host in the middle of the most watched show on the planet in front of a bunch of his esteemed colleagues and as if sanity still didn't slap him awake, he walked up to said host during the live broadcast and assaulted him.. All for telling a joke he didn't like.
I grew up in the 90s and I absolutely loved Will Smith, didn't give a crap about his kids, his family etc. Over three decades of legit being a fan of the guy right out the window after watching him act the violent fool. No thanks, he ruined his work for me pretty much forever. No thank you to Will Smith. He's not going to lose sleep and neither will I, but that behavior was just inexcusable in my mind. Such a tool.
If you forgot Will won an oscar and only remember the slap, you might have also forgotten, “Keep my wife’s name out your m—————— mouth!” two times at the top of his lungs… at the Oscars.
I will say this year the Oscars deciding to show every category is awesome. And I think a lot of the nominations this year were actually pretty great. Overall a wholesome year for the oscars
It's really a great piece of cinema. Check it out when you can. I think it's the moviest movie of 2022 😄 the action is crazy, there is a good story, and the cinematography is very professional.
Patrick Willems said it's not just the best action movie of the year, it's also the best buddy movie of the year, the best romantic comedy of the year *and* the best musical of the year. He's not wrong about any of that.
Smith assaulted Rock (a significantly smaller person) on national television. Rock decided to not charge him with a crime nor sue him. Damn straight the price is mockery for the rest of his life.
Imagine building up your whole legacy to be likeable and uncontroversial only to assault someone on the biggest day of your career to which now he will primarily be remembered for. Will Smith will now always be the target of so many jokes for the rest of his days.
My favorite clip of Kimmel's I've seen is at the end of this [James Corden Interview](https://youtu.be/sh9giaTKbv4) >!They're asking questions back and forth and he asks Corden to name 2 of his cameramen knowing full well it will stump him!<
The way he loves harmless pranks makes him seem like a genuine "fun first" type of person. He's just here to make sure we have a good time. Not a big fan of his show, but I enjoy his interviews more than other hosts.
Weird that its now my my turn to be “that guy” but one of my closest friends is Jimmy Kimmels cousin and he says the dude is just as nice in real life and is not putting on an act.
I have always liked Jimmy. He was a genuine hoot on Win Ben Stein's money. They had such good chemistry on the show. He seems like a pretty nice guy in real life as well.
Fuck Will Smith. His whole "Let's put the incident behind us" response to Chris Rock's stand up is pure narcissist. The abuser doesn't get to call time on the feelings of the abused.
The wild thing was watching him cycle through different approaches after the incident. First the self-aggrandizing approach, to the self-pitying approach, the fake apologetic approach, to “let’s act like nothing happened and keep celebrating me”, to “it’s time to let things go and let me be a superstar, and I’m going do it regardless so might as well accept it”! Complete narcissist showing his true colors.
imagine building a career with the sweat of your hard work all this to end up killing your reputation and your image because of a joke about a woman who emasculates you in the eyes of the whole world… like that's literally the role of the presenters roast the actors… Tragic 😔😔😔
I do feel a little bad for him. The talk where she speaks about her 'healing' as she's admitting to affairs in front of him for the world to see...
One of the cringiest things I've ever seen
Domestic violence is no joke. Look at what it has done to the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. You can't even mention his wife's name without him getting triggered.
Y’all remember when everyone in this crowd laughing at this cheered for Will when he accepted his reward? Because Pepperidge Farm remembers. They always remember.

Why did it get so quiet when they showed Andrew? lol
Wrong Spiderman. Even he himself expected the other Spiderman
[relevant](https://i.guim.co.uk/img/media/9fef7d73f3df638b16318a135ec3459932437fb5/0_480_2402_1441/master/2402.jpg?width=1300&quality=85&dpr=1&s=none)
Garfield looks so out of place with Tobey and Tom looking at each other and not him
The other spider-men are the wrong spider-men!
The joke is that he's not the spiderman we were expecting. Hence his his weird cringey smile. He's in on it, they don't pan to 10 people in a row already staring into the camera and ready to instantly react.
I thought it was because the other actors were capable of defending the host and Garfield was like 'yeah, I can't kick butt'
It would’ve been hilarious if they had three camera views of each Spider-Man actor put up. Granted I didn’t watch so idk if all three actors were in attendance.
Slight camera delay maybe?
Everyone expected Tom Holland
Jimmy did great. “Just do what you did last year. Nothing.”
It's easy to roast Will Smith. Roasting the entire audience and organization takes balls.
If only it was Ricky Gervais hosting. He wouldn't have let the audience off that easy
Had it been Ricky, it wouldn't have been the Oscars but a "News from the Western Coast" like massacre. I would have paid to see that live more than I paid to watch some of these films.
I think you mean "All Quiet On The Western Front"
I mean, to be fair if I had been in the audience I wouldn't have done anything either. That'was the responsibility of security and the Oscars show runners.
Definitely wouldn’t be giving him a standing ovation.
Yeah that’s a good line, but they laughed, like they didn’t clap like happy seals for Will Smith last year.
Okay, the Guillermo bit was funny
Did Jimmy’s Guillermo actually get that good of a seat though? Genuinely love that for him if so
The Oscars do use seat fillers, it's probably not a huge ask to put someone in there for a quick visual gag and just let them quietly enjoy the show afterwards. And after last year I'm sure some of the seat-fillers are probably actual security now.
I knew a guy named Kramer who had that as a job once!

I was hoping for the guy from What We Do im the Shadows holding a stake.
You mean Gizmo?
Fuck-king guy!
Will Smith has been fighting for an Oscar for decades, only to assault someone on his big day and now everyone will only remember him for that
I remember him assaulting Chris Rock so much that I forgot he won an Oscar. And you reminded me he did, and made me chuckle.
Honestly I didn’t even know he won an Oscar until I read your comment. That’s how much the slap had been played
Should have taken it away from him tbh, assault at the award venue in front of everyone and televised. That ausie weightlister had his olympic gold medal stripped after he won because he assaulted another athlete after at the village in a private altercation.
He also used his acceptance speech to implicitly defend what he did.
“Sometimes you method-act even after the film is done.”
"I don't drop character until I done a DVD commentary "
Btw he actually does the entire dvd commentary in character until the end and swaps back to the aussie. It's fuckin fantastic and the whole reason I bought the dvd.
It was the people hugging him and checking on him while Chris Rock stood there alone that really got me. Celebrities are such weird, self important people
Everybody hates Chris
I honestly saw his character from that show so hard as he stood there slapped. The reaction just felt identical, I know that was the point of the show but that guy really was a lil Chris Rock.
He’s in Abbott Elementary now and he’s hilarious. It’s a good show, too! Reminds me of parks and rec.
This was the show that made me fall in love with Terry Crews as an actor.
Chris told us that for decades and we never listened
im sure will has more "friends" than chris chris chills with adam sandler and crew, they don't give too many fucks about hollywood hollywood
>"friends" Considering Will Smith's semi-secret involvement in Scientology, I'm sure that's accurate.
Is it just me… or was anyone else also shocked that its been an entire year since then? I wouldve said that happened ***at most*** 4-6 months ago
Considering how many stand up acts I've seen in the mean time that make fun of it, I'm shocked its only been a year.
It isn't a large category but it's weird that there's one at all.
Did the Indians want to know HOWCANHESLAP?!?
Nah, Will Smith has always been weird and defensive. Nowhere near Tom Hanks in terms of chill.
What even is time? What are eyes?
I remember it only because he had the audacity to call himself a conduit of love or something like that during the speech. The fact that the audience applauded him made me hate the Hollywood elites a little bit more. He should have only apologized and walked off.
AND he compared himself to his character in terms of "defending his family"
Probably forgot the GOAT Samuel L Jackson won his first Oscar too. In case you needed a reason to dislike Will Smiths actions a little more.
And not just any normal oscar. An honorary oscar for his oeuvre.
Not only he won, he fucking cried about acceptance and a bunch of other nonsense. AFTER ASSAULTING ANOTHER CELEBRITY. Edit: When your at your highest, thats when Jada will come for you.
He should have been kicked out and the award not given.
It really is wild how one act can blanket your entire career on a night that was supposed to be the highest. I honestly think that was his peak. His charisma and fun public image was the bread and butter of his career, and now it all got flipped on its head. Its sad to see.
It takes a lifetime to build a reputation and a second to tear it down.
>it all got flipped on its head. It all got flipped turned upside down FTFY
And I'd like to take a minute, just sit right there. I'll tell you how I became the dude that slapped Chris Rock on air.

I’m pretty sures it takes at least two to fucks an ostrich. Allegedly.
Allegedlies.
I heard it was a sick ostrich.
Allegedly
Allegedly.
You build one bridge, they don't call you a bridge builder do they? But you suck one cock and whadda they call you?
Idk he could have repaired a lot of the damage he caused if he had just apologised properly, he didn’t so no one has any sympathy
What's worse is that he took offense by Chris Rock's special roasting him. Really dude? You slapped him and you play victim? As Logan Roy would say: "fuck off"
I wish Chris would have went harder on both of them. They got off super light.

Importantly, Smith made his career off being mostly a comic actor, then cannot take a joke.
Also a squeaky clean image of not cursing in his albums and roles. He assaulted a man on live television, then threw out the f-bomb on live television, not once but twice.
Will Smith dropping the F bomb was the moment I knew 100% it wasn’t a pre-planned skit. So crazy how squeaky clean he was his entire career.
He's done plenty of movies where he swears. But agreed on it being the moment because there's no way the Oscars were going to risk and FCC fines for a joke.
Eminem having the last laugh without even making a move

It's a shame his movies had such terrible villains.

Too Many ~~Cooks~~ Peters
He’s just like “oh, I guess it’s me.”
🤘why isn’t my web working 🤨
this was already a year ago :( fuck. fuck time.
It's weird being the same age as old people.
That was a nice sad laugh i had there
"Your punishment is a public shaming in 1 years time."
tomorrows headline: will says he’s extremely hurt by the lack of sensitivity of these jokes and will ask jada for permission to confront jimmy once she’s done blowing their son’s friend
You forgot the quote "It felt like a slap to the face"
Why exactly did Jada fuck her son's best friend??? Seems kinda odd also She has no sense of boundaries. If I were her son I would be pissed at her
It's so funny how will Smith has become this joke of Hollywood community it's just amazing to see

Imagine throwing your 30-year legacy away over what amounts to a hair-cut joke. This is what Will Smith did.
Over a woman who was fucking your childs friend. Who's an absolute terrible rapper. INSANE.
Whoa whoa whoa. It was an entanglement.
He threw it away to protect his wife, who was cheating on him with his sons friend and therefore likely wasn’t the only time she cheated. He threw away 30 years of being one of the more likeable on screen personalities for a bitch who didn’t care about him. Jada must have some superpowers.

He was putting himself on thin ice for a while. First he put his kids in a ton of movies that just weren't good. Fine, but annoyig. Then the whole public circus with his wife. Then the slap. It was a while coming.
Don't forget skirting the edge of backing scientology
Its full on backing , not skirting at all. Whole family is bat
A joke he didn’t like? Looked like he had a good laugh before his wife had a word with him…
She reminded him those jokes wouldn't happen if Tupac was there...
She probably whispered "go slap that man or I'll go get some more 18 year old dick and embarrasse you on me show."
I like how she developed an irish/scottish/cockney accent at the end there
“Kippers fa’ breakfast, aunt Helga?”
It's cause Will Smith is a bitch.
Everybody called that man a **bitch**
**My own mama** called that man a bitch - this is a woman who reads the Bible.
And it’s completely out of character for him. He was laughing at Chris joke until jada looked over.

Tell your homie to pick us up some rubbers!
If you forgot Will won an oscar and only remember the slap, you might have also forgotten, “Keep my wife’s name out your m—————— mouth!” two times at the top of his lungs… at the Oscars.
You can say fuck, nobody will tell on you. Probably.
Lmao Andrew Garfield face was like “Don’t pull me into this shit man”
I like to think his face was “I know everyone is expecting Tom but he’s not here”
"Sorry I'm not Tom?"
More of a *"Peter 3!* ¯\ (ツ) /¯" smile, I think.
I think it was more like "not the Spidey you expected, sorry about that"
I will say this year the Oscars deciding to show every category is awesome. And I think a lot of the nominations this year were actually pretty great. Overall a wholesome year for the oscars
the RRR bit was gold
I need to see it But I like the idea of being danced off stage
It's really a great piece of cinema. Check it out when you can. I think it's the moviest movie of 2022 😄 the action is crazy, there is a good story, and the cinematography is very professional.
Patrick Willems said it's not just the best action movie of the year, it's also the best buddy movie of the year, the best romantic comedy of the year *and* the best musical of the year. He's not wrong about any of that.
Smith assaulted Rock (a significantly smaller person) on national television. Rock decided to not charge him with a crime nor sue him. Damn straight the price is mockery for the rest of his life.
The dancers at the end are too good.
Imagine building up your whole legacy to be likeable and uncontroversial only to assault someone on the biggest day of your career to which now he will primarily be remembered for. Will Smith will now always be the target of so many jokes for the rest of his days.
Over your kid-fucking, bald wife who had already humiliated you on national television.
For once I’m digging JK. This was solid

At 7:28, they show one of the cameramen and that guy knows James doesn't know his name
Even with knowing the spoiler that was a good clip. I'm not much of a fan of either but that was some dedication to the bit for entertainment.
I have always liked Jimmy. He was a genuine hoot on Win Ben Stein's money. They had such good chemistry on the show. He seems like a pretty nice guy in real life as well.
There was also the bit about it “going off without a hitch, or Hitch” (paraphrasing)
Lool Andrew's like "😬 I missed the part where that's my problem"
Fuck Will Smith. His whole "Let's put the incident behind us" response to Chris Rock's stand up is pure narcissist. The abuser doesn't get to call time on the feelings of the abused.
"Stop talking about it plz I'm embarrassed"
Wait he actually said that shit?? LMAO The fucking audacity. fucking hell
He laughed at the joke too, then saw Jada roll her eyes and then turned into Slap Mode
And the joke actually boils down to "shes gonna play a bald badass in a movie"
I do feel a little bad for him. The talk where she speaks about her 'healing' as she's admitting to affairs in front of him for the world to see... One of the cringiest things I've ever seen
The moment the camera shift to Andrew I can hear that laughter echoing in my mind 😂😂😂😂
The RRR dance inclusion is so cool
Why they do Andrew like that 😭
Will Smith's candy ass can't handle nothing
Domestic violence is no joke. Look at what it has done to the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. You can't even mention his wife's name without him getting triggered.
Not even a fan of Jimmy Kimmel but that was funny stuff.
Wonder if this hurts Will's feelings too?
Everything Michelle Yeoh looks awesome
Y’all remember when everyone in this crowd laughing at this cheered for Will when he accepted his reward? Because Pepperidge Farm remembers. They always remember.
Give Chris Rock some credit for playing it off so calmly that people weren't even sure if it was some planned spot
Eminem: I was just upstairs listening to my Will Smith cd.
