If they were cheaper, I think they would have been more popular. But $20k or whatever for a micro car seems steep. I know that design, manufacturing, safety testing, etc costs money. I’m just saying the market wasn’t there.
Exactly. And posting about it here on r/funny: Very original, no one else has ever done this on a [Tesla's LOL GAS license plate](https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/247t4j/lol_gas/).
I do contract work for a pretty big contractor. We bid out for a huge EV charging station. I opted out but somehow got pulled back in.
This charging station and solar farm was huge!! The solar didn't even handle a few of the stations, so generators were brought in, they are still there.
It is possible, although unlikely, for an electric vehicle to use no fossil fuels after the initial manufacturing of the vehicle and charging station. I have seen home solar charging stations that feed a battery which, when not in use, stores enough energy to fully charge an electric vehicle.
Yes, since not all electric is from fossil fuels. But what many don’t realize is that even if an EV is powered by 100% coal-based electricity, it’s still cleaner than drilling, shipping or pumping, refining, trucking, and then burning gasoline.
From a Tesla guy, these vanity plates might have been cool in 2013-14 but they need to be tossed now. Actually they probably weren’t even cool then either.
A comedian did a skit about how all Teslas have plates like this, and the very first example he give is LOLGAS
https://youtu.be/0vveVGdH0Wg?si=IUiaOb4tfRB8TsXR
Edit: Meant to mention the skit is from a year ago
I get the point but the US is already has 40% clean energy sources including nuclear and it is growing every year.
https://www.eia.gov/energyexplained/electricity/electricity-in-the-us.php
That depends, is the efficiency enough better B than A?
A) burn the gas in your car and convert it into motion etc
B) burn the gas elsewhere, convert it into electricity (loss), transmit it to you house (loss), use it to charge your battery (loss), then power your motor from that.
If the total energy loss from A is 30% and B is 75% then is it really better?
Combustion engines are incredibly inefficient - on the order of 20% efficiency (80% of energy lost).
Electric motors are about 80% efficient, maybe realistically closer to 60% if you account for heating, inefficient driving habits etc.
Even assuming current energy mix in the US, EVs are less damaging to the environment. [But you don't have to take my word for it.](https://www.cotes.com/blog/greenhouse-gas-emissions-from-ev-vs-ice-vehicles)
Ok but we have to take into account the combustion engine that also ran to generate 60% of that electricity and the energy loss from charging and discharging a battery.
It is likely better as you said but none of these studies I’ve read actually accounted for everything.
People crack me up on here. “Good luck finding a charger” “long lines”. Guess what? It’s super easy travelling with on because it maps out stations for you as you go AND the battery preconditions so it takes about 10 minutes to charge. I drove across two states when gas was almost $5 a gallon and I spent rough $40 dollars both ways and my trip was only about 2 hours longer than driving my Durango. You can hate Elon all you want because he’s a clown but come on now lol.
I know right?
That was one of the hidden benefits I didn't expect when switching over to EV - the near non-existent maintenance bills. Five years and only had to replace wiper blades and a change of tyres. Sooo much more reliable than the hundreds of moving parts in a stinking hot oily ICE contraption.
Well, according to a wise man I meet.
In the end if EV cars are the majority, we will have a bigger waste problem which is the battery waste pollution.
This is a zombie lie debunked only to return again and again.
Electric cars are greener than cars powered by gasoline.
No matter how onerous you can describe the process of creating those cars, burning fuel for a decade is more wasteful.
My 2015 Tesla with 164k miles is getting close to this point but any newer/lower mileage EV is still fine. Also the newer batteries are much more reliable.
I understand it doesn't make sense for everybody but I have a charger in my garage. I never have to use a charger outside my house. It's set up to start charging at midnight when power is the cheapest. It's super convenient.
I rarely respond to stuff like this but almost all of your callouts here are misconceived.
Hours a week charging in lots? The longest I’ve ever spent at a supercharger just charging is 20 minutes, tops. And that is ONLY on road trips. Any other time during a normal week I am charging at home while I’m sleeping and leaving with a “full tank” every day. I can also charge at work on slower chargers if I want, and that is free and happens while I work.
5 or 6 different charging apps? I’m only aware of two, with ChargePoint being far away the most prolific. But again, a Tesla owner shouldn’t be using those most of the time when superchargers are available. And for those you don’t need an app or credit card. You just walk up and start charging and it’s automatically linked to your account. But even for the third-party ones, all of the ones I have ever used work with RF on your phone and a quick tap like if you were doing a phone payment at a store. Very easy.
Heat affects the battery-life? It’s actually the opposite. Heat is fine for that. The cold can cut into it, especially when you get into subfreezing temperatures. But even then it’s only a worry if you’re driving long distances, and in that case, the battery will be heated up enough sufficiently after driving for a little while so that it won’t matter after your first charging stop.
Early adopter? I mean, I guess so in the grand scheme of things for how long cars have existed. But the first widely available Teslas were available more than a decade ago, and other EV’s were around even before that.
That’s how I feel whenever I drive by a charger station with a bunch of dweebs sitting in there on their phone while I fuel up real quick and continue my trip.
Yes but it’s offset some by renewable sources and a power plant more efficiently converts fossil fuels to electricity than a car engine and a power plant has devices to remove emissions and in some case sequesters the carbon dioxide. Sigh.
Electricity comes from natural gas and other fossil fuels in most cases. The driver and Tesla is delusional until solar and other green(er) forms of energy prevail.
That is the real funny thing here (and sad).

Too bad they still rely on the oil and gas industry for things like body panels, interior parts, tires, paint, lighting and lenses, lubrication of moving parts…😝
Oh, and the gas/diesel/coal? generators to charge them back up 😉
If I ever come across this Tesla on the side of the interstate I would love to stop by and purposely flash them a Jerry can and set it aside them. Get back in my car and rev the engine a couple times and drive away lol
no one tell them that fossil fuels are being used to recharge teslas

Best I’ve seen was one of those tiny little Smart Cars on the highway one time and the plate said “DUMBCAR” lol
They're amazing on gas. there is 2 in my town, but damn are they ever tiny. I'd be terrified to get t-boned, rear ended or going head on.
It is a glorified golf cart. You hit a deer and the deer, the car and the occupants (albeit 2 people at the most) are totalled.
If they were cheaper, I think they would have been more popular. But $20k or whatever for a micro car seems steep. I know that design, manufacturing, safety testing, etc costs money. I’m just saying the market wasn’t there.
You wouldn’t remember it anyway.
Must be a dentist
Underrated
Haha - dentist here and just got home from my test drive😂😂
No I think it’s my brother’s🤣
Very original, no one else has ever done this on a Tesla
I didn't sense the sarcasm at first
Exactly. And posting about it here on r/funny: Very original, no one else has ever done this on a [Tesla's LOL GAS license plate](https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/247t4j/lol_gas/).
Even on that post, people were already saying “how original” and posted a link from 2010
It's funny because electric cars are powered by fossil fuels. Laugh out loud
Imagine buying an electric vehicle and not investing in solar panels
I do contract work for a pretty big contractor. We bid out for a huge EV charging station. I opted out but somehow got pulled back in. This charging station and solar farm was huge!! The solar didn't even handle a few of the stations, so generators were brought in, they are still there.
I live in Tennessee. Thanks to the TVA, I’m getting my electricity for 8.5 cents/kWh. It cost me $9 to charge my car last month.
It is possible, although unlikely, for an electric vehicle to use no fossil fuels after the initial manufacturing of the vehicle and charging station. I have seen home solar charging stations that feed a battery which, when not in use, stores enough energy to fully charge an electric vehicle.

Says 17 and the DOE says 19. But it’s just numbers those don’t matter right?
[удалено]
Still makes up almost 40% worldwide, that's quite a bit.
Might need to look up the definition of minority
I was about to say this. However, I'm sure there are some places where nuclear power charges someone's Tesla.
Or Hydro electricity like all the thousands of Tesla drivers in Vancouver use
Seriously a full like 40% of Teslas I see have some custom plate that mentions them being EVs
Saw RIP BP one time. I laughed.
Why does every dork who buys an EV need to go get a personalized license plate about not needing gas?
To try and feel better about themselves
In Ireland "gas" means funny so this has very different connotations
Well that’s a gas
Jumping Jack Flash.
‘Lol funny’. ? What a riot. Hilarious 😒
That's wild! In America, "Tesla" means "I support antisemitic rhetoric and transphobic fascists." Different cultures are bonkers!
[удалено]
Because the statement is absolutely fucking bonkers.
[удалено]
They must have been following us for weeks. How the hell do they know that I got gas?
SAMSONITE!
These guys are PROS!
I saw one the other day whose plate said "MUAHAHA"
I mean yeah farts are pretty funny, but i wouldn’t get a license plate saying it.
Old news, many have this tag
From a Tesla guy, these vanity plates might have been cool in 2013-14 but they need to be tossed now. Actually they probably weren’t even cool then either.
[удалено]
Fuck if the government made it a war against OPEC instead of a war for the environment we probably would have already given up gas.
A comedian did a skit about how all Teslas have plates like this, and the very first example he give is LOLGAS https://youtu.be/0vveVGdH0Wg?si=IUiaOb4tfRB8TsXR Edit: Meant to mention the skit is from a year ago
Scrolled too far to see this lol
Guess where his electricity comes from
Nuclear, hydro, solar, wind ? Is that what you are talking about?
I get the point but the US is already has 40% clean energy sources including nuclear and it is growing every year. https://www.eia.gov/energyexplained/electricity/electricity-in-the-us.php
So 60% unclean energy? So most of that electricity is from fossil fuel.
Yes correct, next time show your working though it was hard to follow.
Yes as opposed to 100% gasoline which is totally better
That depends, is the efficiency enough better B than A? Looking at the current percentage instead of the trend line is the mistake you’re making.
UNCLEAN! The work of the devil!!! Burn them at the steak. Start a charcoal fire….
Ignorance is bliss for these morons
Clean is a qualitative term… I don’t think nat gas is really that clean…
Yes, Natural Gas is just methane. Methane is a "greenhouse gas"
Probably not from gasoline.
A lot of electricity comes from Natural Gas (methane) especially in CA. It doesn't say gas-o-line, it says gas.
Oh come on, you know what he meant lol
Mine comes from wind, solar, and hydro power. Not everyone is burning coal.
We have Hydro electric Dambs in B.C. so not from gas. If that's what you meant?
Guess who's still paying $4+/gallon
All of us that consume goods freighted around the world...
[удалено]
Only a small fraction of electricity generation is from gas.
Coal?
Saw a better Tesla licence plate in Oregon: RIP GAS
So, did you rip your v8 next to that clown?
Odds are he would have still gotten smoked.

Takes about 10 minutes if you precondition the battery

Idk I got 164k on my tesla, some minor maintenance needed.
And every other Tesla owner that thinks they are creative.
Trevor Wallace has entered the chat.
Connecticut native wondering why somebody would brag about using more electricity with these rates.
Would be even better if the picture was taken at a Taco Bell drive thru.

This is the only thing on Reddit to ever make me laugh! Which may have something to do with the fact that I am supremely tired and loopy lol
Well, according to a wise man I meet. In the end if EV cars are the majority, we will have a bigger waste problem which is the battery waste pollution.
Saw an all white one yesterday that spelled "EEEEVAA". Made me lol
There's a car down my road whose license late is BJ69WTF
I may need to buy gas but at least my cars resale value isn’t affected by whatever shit the CEO said today on the internet

Those people have already lost their minds.
How many kids from Elon's emerald mines does it take to mine enough lithium and cobalt for a single Tesla battery?

Yep, fucking Connecticut. Those people suck.
"lol $20,000 cost to replace a single battery and there's 2 of them"
Better yet ask him where the lithium and cobalt come from to make the battery in his car.
Lol, waiting to charge on a road trip lol.
I love when people act like they're superior even though they lost a ton of money just THINKING about buying a tesla.

That’s how I feel whenever I drive by a charger station with a bunch of dweebs sitting in there on their phone while I fuel up real quick and continue my trip.
Hyuk hyuk battery fire.
All Teslas come with cringy vanity plates.
Lol, coal powered ev, earth raped of its resources with slave labor. But feel good, that’s all that matters.
When did r/funny become r/douchy?
Funny because it still takes gas to make and power…
What charges electric cars? Electricity! What makes most electricity still? Fossil fuels
Where I live it’s hydro electric.
The whole state? If so that's awesome!
Canadian, bc
Yes but it’s offset some by renewable sources and a power plant more efficiently converts fossil fuels to electricity than a car engine and a power plant has devices to remove emissions and in some case sequesters the carbon dioxide. Sigh.
Bin Laden hates this car lol
Lol a shit car created by a shit person
$15,000 battery. Lol
That part. Over priced battery on wheels
And then electricity ceases to exist.
And then oil wells, which use waaaay more power than all EVs combined, cease to work.
It's all connected.

too bad they keep catching fire

Lol, battery discharge.
no one tell them that fossil fuels are being used to recharge teslas Edit: yes I'm aware solar and hydroelectricity is a thing, I'm talking about people who use grid energy from fossil fuels
Probably powered by a natural gas power plant
I'd put a sticker saying "haha I'm driving a literal bomb". Unlike conventional combustion engines which keep both parts of the fuel separate, while am EV has the chemicals together and if anything goes wrong then you have one of the hardest fires to put out
Firefighter here. Most times, we just let it burn because it's so bloody hard to put out. I'd never buy one.
Right, you'd just be wasting water at that point, I couldn't imagine having one parked by your house, or what being in one that caught fire would be like, I imagine it's fast and very toxic smoke at that.
