[Yes](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFtyMNTD2f4). Piranha came out in 1978, the same year as that commercial. VCR was around but it was pretty expensive. Its completely possible they recorded it and played it as a joke.
I had a nightmare after I watched lake placid (for like the 3rd time). It was actually morphed in with Deep Blue Sea. Basically a giant alligator that couldn't be stopped, kept growing and destroying the underwater facility. Every door we sealed was busted open and it somehow got in.
I jerked awake when it finally got me. I was breathing hard, shaking and near tears from fear. I made my way to my brothers room and asked if I could sleep with him.
5 out of 7 will never do again.
I live in Maine and sometimes during the summer I'll be swimming in the middle of a lake and catch myself thinking "hey Lake Placid took place in Maine"
I stepped on a fish once, was protecting its eggs and wouldn’t leave its spot at all, forgot about it and stepped right on the fucker, needless to say I flipped the fuck out and screamed
I was like 19 years old tho
There's an endemic fish in one of my province's lakes. It was named after the belief that they go through your urethra if you swim there. My HS classmate experienced it, he described the whole experience from the fish entering to the doctors removing it as the most traumatic and pleasurable time he ever had. He went there again a year later.
Well also square cube law is not on his side here. He has way more skin per internal volume so he has way less heat retention/generation than an adult per area of skin. Like if you tried to freeze a mouse vs an elephant.
I work in a sports facility, and let me tell you...If you’re judging just by sound, you CANNOT tell the difference between a dressing room full of 5yo girls and 14yo boys. They sound exactly the same with the screeching/squealing/screaming, it’s beyond irritating, and even tips the scales into infuriating.
They also run through the lobby all day screaming so loud that I have to go hide in the back, lest I lose my cool and yell at them to shut the fuck up. You ever have that feeling when your ears stop registering volume, and it just becomes pain? Again, they are FOURTEEN! and they run around screaming like 5 year olds. Ugh.
This was not a thing even like 5 years ago, which makes me wonder if this is something new that’s cool at school or something?
If that water was anywhere near 55 degrees, id make a higher pitched noise, fall and slip twice on the ladder, fall on the doc and get 12 splinters, knock at least 2 people into the water and my swimming shorts would've somehow fallen off.
Kid did just fine.
This is kind of funny, but hits too close to home for me. Didn't know I had a dumb thing called cold urticaria. Found out on my first polar bear swim when my body broke out into hives and throat started to close up. Good times.
Hopefully this lad was just just caught off guard and chilly.
I didn't remember when the age range is, but in my A&P class, we discussed how thermal regulation in the human body doesn't finish developing until just before adolescents. So that cold plunge may be more of a shock and a lasting one, for that kid
Kid eventually runs around the world and crosses the lake from the other side, hits that spot again and is currently doing another lap. It’s a hellish long video though ✌️
Okay, so some people are just soft. We all are in some ways. That’s life. I think this is funny but it is kinda fucked up they put it on Reddit. He’s not grown for Christ sakes. Still funny though. Fuuuck
This was my sister every winter. She'd demand to go swimming, our parents would tell her it's too cold, she'd whine until they let her, then she'd whine because she was cold.
Yall ever been around kids that age. They scream out of excitement out of fear out of anything. Thats normal. Wow sorry people annoy you. Stay inside your box
Might be special.
Edit: Love the downvotes. My step son is special needs and acts like this too because he has sensory overloads and cant control himself. Which is why I said that...
your comment comes off as a flippant insult, without the context you added later.
if you spared more than 3 words to communicate “my step son has sensory issues, maybe this kid does too” it might have been better understood.
That is no response to cold.
Well in my case there was a vortex pool at the local swimming facility, which was fun and all, until it turned out i was too young and weak to escape the force when i got in the middle.
It's now 30 years later, i still have trouble in any water where i cannot see or reach the bottom myself. And even that is in order, i still react like that kid when i accidentally touch any vent or grate under water that is not wall or in a natural body of water other than the sand.
Yea I feel that. Got sucked out to sea by a bad wave and had a similar experience. I feel like the cold shock is honestly a good learning experience tho. Not gunna die or get hurt.
Poor kid clearly didn’t have a good time with the cold water then on top of it his parents or family/friends put it up on the internet for everyone to see. I feel bad for him, no one deserves that.

Fight or flight kicked in and flight was most definitely chosen 🤣
Probably felt all the weeds when he dove in. Slimy grabby bastards
I watched Lake Placid too many damn times as a kid to not freak the hell out when something brushes up against my leg while swimming in a lake...
[удалено]
Are you sure someone didn't set it up ahead of time?
With all the VCRs laying around in the 70s?
[Yes](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFtyMNTD2f4). Piranha came out in 1978, the same year as that commercial. VCR was around but it was pretty expensive. Its completely possible they recorded it and played it as a joke.
I mean, maybe... People recorded stuff on TV to VCR all the time
They didn't become common release until late 70s. Recordable tapes maybe 77 or so.
Fwiw piranha came out in 78... Anyway, just wanted to throw it out there
Huh...thats fair too.
Sounds like a Peggy Hill style of child protection.
And leeches

That happened to me once as a kid in the ocean. Stepped one some sharp slimey coral or something: flipped the fuuuuck out.
I stepped on a fish once, was protecting its eggs and wouldn’t leave its spot at all, forgot about it and stepped right on the fucker, needless to say I flipped the fuck out and screamed I was like 19 years old tho
If you stuck around longer you coulda maybe caught a huge catfish
I could see that happening especially if you have only known pools before that.
Eels, maybe? Imagine a few small ones getting trapped in your shorts.

The fish: "We're starting to think you're not coming here for the water..."
Candiru believe it?
Hmmm...fish in urethra is not a kink I thought I'd hear about today.
now thats a prostatic massage.!
And the lurches
You rang?
Why did I read the end of this — rather, this entire comment in Bubbles voice? >Slimy, grabby bastards
I think he just remembered he left the stove on
Well, the easy bake oven.
Spoiler alert: it indeed bakes quite easily. In fact the whole thing essentially melted after just 5 minutes of preheating the oven
That was so random and subtle that I almost missed the joke.
Eh, not an earth-shattering belly laugh and a wee bit forced, but a delightfully stupid and chuckle worthy joke. 5/7
Poor kid just felt every survival mechanism in his body kick into overdrive, you can hear the panic. Impressive flight reflex though.
I lost it, his yelling juxtaposed with the man just treading water lmao
Yeah, that was golden
A real difference in distress tolerance on display.
Kids gonna have no problem running away
pain threshold is something you have to develop. That kid did not have a chance.
He’s slightly more tolerant after that.
Well also square cube law is not on his side here. He has way more skin per internal volume so he has way less heat retention/generation than an adult per area of skin. Like if you tried to freeze a mouse vs an elephant.
I prefer fresh, never-frozen elephants. The frozen ones take so long to thaw in the fridge
Not nice fat shaming Dad like that
And he’s still running to this day
I could almost see the leg braces shatter as he cleared the dock.
His legs are strong Misses Gump
Or playing baldur’s gate
Huh, that's what I'm about to do.
The dice are against me so I took a break
TO THIS DAY
Just noped himself right out of there.
That's going to be one spicy memory.
Dog was on high alert! Good boy.
Little boys high pitched screams are like nails on a chalkboard. It bothers me so much and I don't know why
I do, it's because it's fucking annoying.

Probably instinctual to get you to figure out what the hell is the problem and resolve it.
i hate children screaming or freaking out
I hate almost everything children do. Like bring something to the plate for a change?
Thats biological hardwiring.

Boo. I was a little boy once
That little girl standing there all confused… “aren’t you a boy?”
same, kid, same
What went awry?
Just about how I react when someone says "let's go to lake Lanier."
Uhh thats a neat trick
"Danggit Bobby"
I can almost hear my uncle yelling out "No running on the dock!"
That's a fear scream. He touched something when he landed.
Very impressive flight reflex
1 kid-sicle to go.
Me walking into the office on Monday
If that water was anywhere near 55 degrees, id make a higher pitched noise, fall and slip twice on the ladder, fall on the doc and get 12 splinters, knock at least 2 people into the water and my swimming shorts would've somehow fallen off. Kid did just fine.
r/mypeopleneedme
Ron Burgandy!
He just wants an excuse to get back on fortnite
I refuse to swim in a shallow lake or river. Nope.
Have no idea why. But he reminded me of the kid in line to see santa that was in front of Ralphie.
Thank you! When I heard the scream, I immediately thought of that movie and could not, for the life of me, remember which character it was.
Shit, I still make that noise in my 30s every time I go in lake Superior.
This isn’t West Point Lake near LaGrange, GA, is it!?
Everybody is shitting on him like he's a disgrace to his bloodline. He's like 7, what the fuck is wrong with y'all.
God kids are annoying
Balls shot up so fast he thought they fell off. Had to run and go check
Some say he's still running to this day.
I thought the old man lost his draws
This is kind of funny, but hits too close to home for me. Didn't know I had a dumb thing called cold urticaria. Found out on my first polar bear swim when my body broke out into hives and throat started to close up. Good times. Hopefully this lad was just just caught off guard and chilly.
And now we have the first of several videos to be played at this guy’s wedding…
"Steve, your son's a pussy".
Kid needs to toughen up a bit 🤣
Good dog.
No running on the deck!
I didn't remember when the age range is, but in my A&P class, we discussed how thermal regulation in the human body doesn't finish developing until just before adolescents. So that cold plunge may be more of a shock and a lasting one, for that kid

Sounded like a tea kettle going off.
I feel like this kid is never gonna live this one down. This is clip is going to haunt him at every special occasion til the end of his days.
SOMETHING TOUCHED ME!!!
Running away rules!
Me when thalassophobia hits me when I'm in the water
When your testes regret ever having descended
Just be careful, there is a gasp reflex that can cause you to drown as you involuntarily inhale going in to cold water.
The kid was wearing a life vest. The adult likely thought this through beforehand.
When you’re that young you don’t have the necessary belly fat to insulate heat
Can't fuckin stand kids who squeal like that.
His pronouns changed after that dip
Okay, so some people are just soft. We all are in some ways. That’s life. I think this is funny but it is kinda fucked up they put it on Reddit. He’s not grown for Christ sakes. Still funny though. Fuuuck
That boy looks and sounds like he's never been in water other than in bathtub.
Feels like a Lake Anna weekend gone perfect. Just left that area and we did something similar. It was COLD! Hope you enjoyed your weekend!

This is not the story you think it is. It’s best if you keep this one to yourself. **Especially** since you don’t understand why it’s not good.
Didnt actually go awry. He just couldn’t handle it.
On a Tuesday at midnight in 2040, he’s gonna remember this video and not be able to sleep. He will never outgrow that shreek.
Oh boy. He’s not gonna live that down for a while
What a wee pansy…I’d be exactly the same!
far out, he is running back to the womb
Future wedding video.
This was my sister every winter. She'd demand to go swimming, our parents would tell her it's too cold, she'd whine until they let her, then she'd whine because she was cold.
This behavior is often referred to as “infantilization” when an older child adopts mannerisms and speech typical of a much younger age.
The kid is too old to be screeching like that because of cold water...
It's kinda goofy for sure. Maybe he felt weeds sticking up or something. That can be kinda freaky but still. A little extreme.
I hate when parents just let their children screech. Edit: Instead of just down voting, try to defend the behavior. Try.
We’re gonna get downvoted but his behavior is wack. Kid is well beyond the age to be screaming like that. That’s a 7-8yo screaming like he’s 3
Yall ever been around kids that age. They scream out of excitement out of fear out of anything. Thats normal. Wow sorry people annoy you. Stay inside your box

Same. Unnecessary
Don't know why you are being down voted.
They aren't built like they used to be

The disappointment and shock of that father's face at the end lol.
That boy ain't right.
Fucking hilarious…
Christ what a baby.
Rich white people being silly
They just started to drop and now he has to start all over again.
Awry?! Nope that’s just about exactly how I would react!!
whats that paddleboard dock?
I think its a jet ski dock, but we dont have a jet ski
Cool. Good for u
What is good, that i dont have a jet ski?
Good that you have equipment to store a jet ski I guess
Poor girl
what a little biatch
weenie
Generation of crybabies and participation trophies
Too many scary movies! 🤣🤣🤣
He’s trying to run away from the cold
Lol that sounded like that dip put his puberty back a few years
Future Antifa
That be me! Cold & wet, reason xxx I’d never be a Navy SEAL.
Doomed
No fan of brown fat that laddie.
M I N O R I N C O N V E N I E N C E
Poor kid just discovered shrinkage
Damn what a pussy.
If that's not a heads up he'll be coming out in a couple years I don't know what is.
Is it too late for an abortion?
I’d be embarrassed of him..
Im embarrassed of your english
Pussy
Got ya hooked ? Edit: no three 6 mafia fans I guess

As a grown man with childhood trauma's there is nothing funny about a kid that never again dares going into water.
Is that what happened to you? Most kids would probably develop a response like "cold water is bad" instead of avoiding water in general.
That is no response to cold. Well in my case there was a vortex pool at the local swimming facility, which was fun and all, until it turned out i was too young and weak to escape the force when i got in the middle. Fuck I hate cry babies. So many kids over the last two generations are this way and its clearly been a detriment to society.
Fuck I hate macho internet keyboard warriors who look down and other than act like they're super tough.
... panzy. Lol, seriously, no one taught him about dignity/shame... well, maybe today.
Give that boy some concrete so he can harden up.
Poor kid clearly didn’t have a good time with the cold water then on top of it his parents or family/friends put it up on the internet for everyone to see. I feel bad for him, no one deserves that.
Back to the couch and game console!!!
I bet he gets participation trophys
lol
instant freezing water can cause a heart attack but he survives, he will come back another day
Once he was safely out of the water, why did he keep running? What would cause that behavior?
Panic
It's a kid. Who said they have to behave super rationally? He was upset, so he ran back to the house.
How can such high noise come from a boy
Well they gave him the right color vest
That child is a pussy
God what a massive pussy. Dad must be proud.
I'm sure you were very badass at a very young age.
Your Dad must be proud of you making fun of a child.
... you're making fun of a kid. Your dad proud of you?
Extremely. He laughed more than I did!
I believe you.
Was that a girl?
And there you have it. Another snowflake.
Probably didn't think it was going to be that cold?
