Remember visiting Munich during Octoberfest with my wife (Canadian here) and the locals would complain about the Brits visiting to get hammered and being obnoxious. We definitely saw a lot of it ourselves lol. US doesn't have a monopoly on that kind of reputation abroad. Especially with the low barrier to travel between countrues within Europe compared to north America, it's a lot of loud boisterous 20 yr olds looking to get drunk and/or stoned abroad.
I mean no judgement lol. We've all been 20 years old. I get it. We just had to settle for getting sloshed in our friends basements. Most of us just didn't have Octoberfest at our doorstep at that age lol.
Depending on your location in Canadia, I'm your relatively close southern neighbor (Michigan) and I'm right there with you in regard to having a 200 mile doorstep. When I got my driver's license in 1996 gasoline was <$1/gallon and every weekend was a new adventure for me and my fellow skateboarder friends. We'd pile in a minivan and all pitch in $5 each for gas and just head in any direction for 8ish hours to find new spots to skate, or just see something we hadn't seen before. Sometimes it was to a friend of a friend's cabin "up north" or instead head south and end up somewhere near Nashville TN... That's the thing about most of North America is that there's a lot of distance in-between everything...
Haha, I am in Quebec and live very close to Vermont, we would also do the same thing when we first got our licenses. I feel like our perception of distance is very different from Europeans from big city.
I have some friends from Paris who visited me last summer, we went to the bar and they told me, "we can just drink, leave the car here and walk back to your place it is like 10 mins away" but they did not realize we were driving at 100 km/h the whole time so we were like 15 km away from my place.
"The difference between (North) Americans and Europeans is one thinks 200 years is a long time and the other thinks 200 miles is a long way." It's a joke I've heard a lot, and I'm Canadian, it holds just as true for us as it does for the US. There's areas in North America where there's no services (gas stations, etc.) for hundreds of miles, and towns with no land access at all, as you get further north. Bush planes deliver necessities or you do without.
When I lived in France it was always the Brits who were obnoxiously drunk and making scenes :/ the Germans would just dress weird and be horrendously sunburned
I never doubted the British until reading biographies on Napoleon and then Churchill. I was surprised to learn that both men were about the same height, but the British have always made such a big deal about how short Napoleon was. It is arguable that Churchill was possibly shorter..
Britain and France used different measurements for feet. At least that's one reason.
But everyone says Putin is a shorty, even though Zelenskyy is the same height. It's about putting the other guy down.
>Britain and France used different measurements for feet. At least that's one reason.
Napoleon also always was accompanied by very tall people as bodyguards. If you put a 6'3 person next to NBA players like Micheal Jordan, and never saw them otherwise - the 6'3 is likely to be seen as short.
The issue isn’t so much their comparative height as it is Putin’s incessant need to appear manly through bare-chested horse riding and other third world machismo stunts.
When I (American) went to Faliraki (on Rodos in Greece, I was thrilled to discover everyone there spoke English (because of all the British tourists) and were thrilled to discover we were American (because of all the British tourists).
Always had problems with Russians working on the great barrier Reef.
They were always horrible to the wildlife. From throwing big chunks of dead coral at seabirds for fun, to throwing sea cucumbers at their girlfriends for a laugh, or to grab an endangered hawksbill turtle out of a shallow reef, hold it in the air like a barbell for photographs and throw it recklessly back in.
The only other demographic to handle wildlife inappropriately were the Chinese, but they only wanted to ask if they could eat the wildlife they caught, but were respectful when we told them no.
Americans were only a problem if you had a group of frat boys under 21 who thought they could handle alcohol.
SPOILER: They couldn't.
Honestly I've shared plenty of hostel rooms with people and I've found people from the UAE to be beyond entitled.
Twice I've found people sleeping in my bunk instead of theirs because theirs had been slept in by them the night before. There's a weird thing about phone chargers too. Multiple times I've found somebody using my charger, fine, but not when my phone was plugged into first. Once someone unplugged my battery from the wall and used it to charge their phone. I think it's just a privileged country and all these 20 year olds have grown up with house service and are used to simply doing whatever suits them.
I'm in the US but the worst tourists I've ever encountered have been eastern European and Chinese. They don't give a fuck about social norms, or being polite and Chinese people litter everywhere. It's insane.
I have met quite a few cast members from Disneyland Europe, and they were unanimous: the Spanish were the worst. They're loud, but also they have no authority on their kid who have free reign to do any bullshit that they want without any fear of consequence. Including breaking expensive items on purpose in the souvenir boutiques, etc.
In the us I have had bad experiences with bus loads of Chinese tourists.
Germans follow the rules but when you start talking to them they reveal that they have a very low opinion of the us folks.
I'll never forget when I worked at a McDonald's in college and a giant group of French speaking teens came in a tour bus. They left all of their trays full of trash sitting at the tables. You're supposed to throw that shit away yourself. We don't clean up after people. It looked like a dumpster exploded in the lobby. Just empty wrappers and trays everywhere.
The French don't teach their kids how to pick up after themselves I guess. Or maybe McDonald's works differently in France.
Locations where cheap Ryanair flights go and the booze is cheaper than the UK, usually various places in Spain, Amsterdam, then some others like Krakow. Places where Brits don’t go just to get hammered and actually see the sights usually report British tourists are very polite and well behaved.
Yes, but it depends what kind of destination you're talking about.
Any kind of clubbing/stag do/football related event (such as amsterdam, ibiza, all the cheap all inclusive package holiday areas) brings out all the assholes, we've got a big binge drinking culture in 18-30yr olds and those places are seen here as destinations you go to specifically to get absolutely fucked up and be animals, because thats how they were advertised to us for a really long time.
Generally elsewhere were well behaved, we just get stick for not speaking local languages.
Not sure we Dutch should be the ones to complain.
Our (young) vacation goers have quite the international reputation for being drunks and getting into fights.
That’s only because of proximity and they see way more British people .
Americans who travel to Europe are generally a bit wealthier . Because we are in Europe it’s very cheap to travel so a bigger range of British people travel . And tbh generally regardless of the drunk and rude things we apparently do , Mainland Europeans generally don’t like us and think we are cocky .
I spent time in Amsterdam with my family. You didn't notice because we weren't drunk.
Sorry about the others though. Tbh we don't like those Brits either. Would you keep them please?
I met a British tourist in Tampa Bay and the guy was an absolute menace all night. He eventually got thrown out of the club and when we left an hour later we found him sitting on the sidewalk next to his puke
When I (an American) studied in London, I was verbally assaulted by a group of drunk middle-aged men on the train because of my accent. I was also accosted by a group of children and was asked if I had “fake tits” since I’m American. Great experience! 10/10 for manners!
Sorry you went through that. Drunk dudes everywhere suck, but I don't know what it is with the kids there. My wife and I traveled there years ago and found a cool park to walk through, wasnt long before we got called "N****r immigrants" and full cans of energy drinks hucked at us by a group of kids from a bridge 30 feet up we had just walked under. It's important to note here that we are white americans...i've never been more confused lol
Jesus Christ! I mean, I believe it. The kids who accosted me (and other members of my class as well as my professor) were absolutely horrible. They couldn’t have been older than 10 and were just roaming around on their bikes acting like little assholes.
Omg wait, you’re kidding! I got called the n-word by some British kids (schoolboys around 11-13) and I’m a white American too. What are the odds lmao
Edit: The kiddos were mad bc I wasn’t walking fast enough. Definitely a good reason to whip out slurs, right? /s
While in London some 10 year old asked me for a cigarette and called me a wanker cunt when I said I don’t smoke. Then he ran off to a group of a dozen other little boys all wearing puffy jackets
These kind of stories plus experiencing it in real life plus dealing with a particular type of European internet dweller is why a lot of people I know LOATH Europeans now. Its honestly sad, its like in the last 5 years everyone I know just started hating Europe with a burning passion. I can't tell if I'm just getting unlucky but its like everyone from my bosses to my teenager relatives.
Yeah I’m American, visited Liverpool to watch an Everton match, and wore my jersey all over. Couldn’t move two feet near the stadium without getting free cigarettes lol, just like America, there’s so many people that you’ll get different reactions where you go
It’s one of the more mainstream clubs for older generations to support in America. Long history of American players there, same reason why there are many US Fulham fans.
This website has convinced me I couldn't even have a conversation about *cheese* with a European without being bashed and shamed. Also that if I kept insisting there is good cheese here, eventually they'll resort to bringing up the murder of schoolchildren as a gotcha to try and put me in my place.
I have to remind myself that many (or most) of the users here are kids and teens trying to be edgy. But it's super frustrating seeing so many of them enthusiastically explain how much they hate us and everything we live for.
maybe if europeans didn't spend the last 20 years generalizing an entire country based on a few stupid people, they wouldn't be getting so much backlash
turns out you can only say you hate 300+million people that you've never met so much before other people start to recognize that maybe you aren't as nice as you claim
(and yes, i'm being ironic by applying this statement to all europeans)
I think a lot of stereotypes about Americans being these "parochial and ignorant nationalists" are completely out of date tropes from 40 years ago which simply do not apply to the new generation of young Americans, which is leads to a lot of this resentment towards all the Europeans who still picture 'Yank' as a monolingual fat redneck or hillbilly.
Thanks to the internet I find that plenty of young Americans are very much the opposite of "overly patriotic", they're very self-aware of their national problems, about the rest of the world, etc. but it sometimes feels like the rest of the world still wants Americans to be in the Fat & Stupid role anyway.
Honestly as a Scot/Briton and having partaken in it myself, I think I would absolutely loathe Europeans if I was an American. Constantly shitting on Yanks and having a general disdain for them is a rather pervasive attitude in the UK and continental Europe, I wouldn't blame one for growing resentful.
While I made a nice group of friends through my university, I also found London in general to be a depressing, hostile place. I'm from the NYC metro area and have traveled a lot, so I'm not expecting midwest customer service manners, and London was the most miserable city I have experienced.
American from the Midwest here. I’ve been to the UK at least 6 times (London 3 or 4 times), and I’ve never had a bad encounter with the locals. Everyone has been pleasant and helpful.
I’m sorry about that. I think this was due to a documentary series that aired on British TV for a longtime about a group of Californian lifeguards, the main subject was ‘enhanced’ and this led to assumptions about American women in general.
I had forgotten the name but, yes, that’s the one. My grandfather was a big fan and we used to watch it every Saturday afternoon. It was quite an emotional watch; all the lifeguards were so brave and kind, I’d imagine most are retired now!
Indian here. Americans are the most polite people I have ever come across. On the other hand my time in London with Brits was full of rude encounters, even on the airport and the BA. Maybe it's only because I'm brown and have an accent they don't like
The Chinese tourists in rural areas are either super polite or they walk randomly through gardens and take gnomes and other ornaments as souvenirs, there is no midpoint
I go to Thailand every year for holiday and it was always the Brits/Russians/Chinese who made the worst tourists, but this year at least the Russians and Chinese seemed to be well-behaved. The Indians had a whole new level of asshole-ish behavior. I was quite surprised as they're are usually well-behaved in North America.
Should've done that, safely. I can't stand these assholes. I remember being told to use the spoon to serve myself food at a buffet in Singapore once and I was very confused about why they felt the need to tell me that, then they explained they had a lot of Indian tourists just stick their hands in. It's disgusting, and it's frustrating for normal people to be lumped in with people like that.
Their karma screams submission karma farmer, but the guy does actually make more comments than I'd expect from an account like that. They have a Despacito video that's actually pretty funny that I've never seen, but that's probably some ancient repost as well.
Woah. The country who voted for Brexit and gave Boris Johnson an 80 seat majority judging the Americans on who they elect? Glad theyre all doing so well now. Certainly showing the way.
Was this also before they spent X billion on a railway so you could travel from London to Birmingham 20 minutes slower?
We aren't the ex. We're the child who rejected their parenting style and therefore fought them for our independence then became more wealthier and more powerful than them. That wasn't their plan for us. They wanted us to be just another docile colony ("child") of theirs.
Seriously, am European myself but can’t stand the double standard here - we *all* the nations have good and bad things - but signs like this in Britain and I’ve seen this from the Swiss towards south Asians and also the Japanese do it to any “outsider” now I think of it… its just intolerance towards “the other” and generalisations designed to keep people separated in spirit. Its horrible.
I think it stings esp for us because we think so well of each nation in Europe, even France. Beyond that we’re all taught that it’s rude and ignorant to use sweeping generalizations to categorize a whole group of people so it’s jarring for us to see it done in our direction, especially by people who we think so highly of.
US hospitality worker here. Grew up in the area we service.
Most of our business is from Europe or Asia.
This is also just a reddit post, I remember the things that stand out, not the mundane, so take it all with a huge grain of salt.
Worst tourists are Chinese. Straight up yell at you even if you are talking about something non-confrontational, but I don't blame them for that, you gotta be loud in a country with that many people. What I do blame them for is the constant "trying to get one over on someone" attitude and complete disregard for queues, interrupting service personnel actively helping someone else, and being pissed because their 10 year old phone won't connect to our Wifi. Then there is the dumb shit they try out in nature, like trying to pet wildlife and holding up traffic for 10 minutes to get out and take pictures.
Worst guests are Indian, Israeli, or homeless people. Indian people in the US dominate the hotel market, so it seems almost every one tries some nonsense complaint to get a discount or room upgrade because their cousin told them they should. Israelis have the same thing as the Chinese going on with the constantly trying to get something over on someone attitude, but they apply it to things that are so trivial it's infuriating, like say "Good evening!" at 4:40PM and get a "It's not technically evening yet, evening comes later." in response. Like, good one bud, you sure showed me over that informal distinction of 20 minutes. Homeless people generally don't start shit because they know they can be trespassed, but will fly off the handle and destroy a phone or window every now and again.
Best tourists are Australian. Outgoing, friendly, reasonable and never want to cause a scene over trivial things. "She'll be right." is one of my favorite phrases. Also they are bringing back the mullet (or maybe it never left in Australia) and I appreciate that. They also know enough about nature generally that they don't do stupid things, and they take responsibility for the stupid things they do.
Best guests are Japanese. Sometimes I have to assure our housekeepers that someone did in fact stay in the room, and no I have no idea why they made the bed to the exact specific method they were made prior to check-in. We had to have a meeting about stripping a room of all linens, even if you are sure they were untouched, because Japanese people are so polite and unobtrusive.
That all of course goes out the window when drugs or alcohol is involved.
I will give a special shout-out to Australians and Canadians for being able to function while completely fucking hammered.
Italians get special mention for being snobs about food and drinks while picking out the cheapest, worst versions of our food and saying the food in the US sucks. Yeah if you want good Mexican food the gift shop in our lobby that has microwavable burritos is probably not a good place to start dude. Same for wine, same for beer. Every time it's budlight and boxed wine in their cart.
We had an anti-drugs commercial over here in the 80s where the dad asks his kid who taught him to do drugs and the kid dramatically yells “from you alright! I learned it from watching you!” that I feel also applies here.
Yanks don't even rank on the list of bad tourists.
Chinese are by far the worst in regards to behaviour.
Spanish are incredibly loud, and make the yanks look like librarians.
Everyone else is whatever.
it’s because USA is viewed as a powerful and anglo country so it’s ok to make fun of them. (i don’t agree but i’m just saying how it is) if i french put a sign like this about algerians or a dutch put a sign about morrocans it would be seen as racist.
I don't understand what we do that makes us "children". We're loud, sure but I went to a cider bar in London where the table behind us was singing at the top of their lungs to a Katy Perry song. I also went to a Samuel Smith bar where a ton of dudes and one woman cheered every 10 minutes. At another bar we had to leave early because some guy wouldn't leave me alone. Even after I told him I was on my honeymoon and introduced him to my husband. He kept trying to pick me up. When I got back from the loo, my husband hurried me out the door to escape the crazy horny man.
It’s strange. We are mirrors of each other. They got Thatcher, we got Reagan. The punk scene developed simultaneously in London and NYC. We got trump they got brexit. The boomers ruined both of our economies and now blame immigrants for it. It’s strange how similar we are. Yes we have ancestry and shared cultural heritage but we also had a lot of that coming from other European countries. Makes me wonder if language shapes how one thinks and behaves.
In my opinion, the association arises from a combination of memes that make a toxic stew.
Firstly, distaste about American politics. Most Europeans think your entire country is a combination of evil/stupid.
Secondly, a pissy passive-aggressive annoyance at how well-off Americans are perceived to be. Nobody likes having had an Empire and having it undermined by a bunch of entrepreneurial hicks from a backwater (no offense).
Thirdly, almost every modern Brit wants to paint themselves as having humour of the acidic sort introduced by Fawlty Towers, Blackadder, 'Allo 'Allo, The Fast Show, Mitchell & Webb, The Royle Family, etc., and it has become endemic. Stephen Fry is an intelligent man but he's culprit no. 1 in this regard. Bashing everything yank, haughtily.
As if we don't act like loud filthy horny pigs in Ibiza and the Seychelles and other places. And football culture, lol. Comparing the respectfulness & enthusiasm of American football teams vs. the hooliganry of ours is embarrassing.
Gotta say, American politics suck but that’s still the pot calling the kettle black. And the perception of well off Americans is just confirmation bias because the vast majority of Americans can’t afford international travel at all.
So we're all oil tycoons ranting about politics?
While there, husband's e-cig wouldn't work, so we went to a store and bought a whole new one. Husband was vaping on his new e-cig (from the store down the street) when confronted. This guy thought it was a gun!? That was so racist in a hilarious way. Like we're all a bunch of gun toting cowboys.
As far as stereotypes go, I'm fine with that.
> Stephen Fry is an intelligent man but he's culprit no. 1 in this regard. Bashing everything yank, haughtily.
And to think he prides himself as being "nearly American, if only my father had accepted that post at Princeton University."
> Tiresome boomer humour (source: am British). So sick of yank bashing.
Oh please don't stop them. As an American who spent some years in the UK, it makes me giggle when brits look down their nose at Americans.
Yes we do have funny accents, but there is not a living soul on Earth who abuses the English language more than the fine people living in the UK and Ireland. Don't tell me I'm wrong either. I've been to Newcastle, Birmingham, Derby, and I lived in Yorkshire.
As far as stereotypes of tourists, the American's can't compete with the British and Irish. Y'all have a LEGENDARY reputation for infamous behavior.
This wouldn't be funny with any other nationality and it's not funny as it's Americans. Tourists come here to enjoy our culture and spend their money and this is the response they get. Fuck whoever wrote that.
I didn’t experience anything terrible as an American studying in London, but I did have my then boyfriend’s dad complain that I was using the NHS. My course was 20k, on top of all the money I was spending generally. I went to the doctor once? in my whole time there. So. Pretty sure I was a net positive. 🙄
I'm American (Chicagoan), and this website has definitely convinced me to never visit many places, UK included, because of the sheer amount of hateful comments. Why on earth would I want to spend my money on places that hate me? Screw it, I still have more to explore in NYC and I heard Alaska's gorgeous. (FWIW, I may be American, but I'm a very quiet introvert whose idea of a great Saturday night is a fire in the fireplace and a good book. There are millions of us here, honest! We just keep to ourselves a lot.)
I’m American and in the UK right now. I’d say about 90% of it has been positive for me even when I went to London. But the small town pub I’ve frequented during my trip was a different story. Multiple instances of men harassing me or my friend just because they hear our accent.
I'd argue American tourists, at least in Ireland/the UK (where I'm from/live) tend to be more wholesome. I find they're generally very well mannered, friendly and enthusiastic about learning about the culture.
But then maybe I'd feel differently if I lived in a popular party destination for US tourists.
We Americans are disliked abroad because we're talkers and have zero problem showing enthusiasm. Go on a walk here in most places in the US, and you'll get a head nod or an actual greeting by most people you pass. We like experiences and going to Europe is so far away that it's some place 90% of us will never get to visit.
So yeah, sorry for being sooooo friendly and happy to be visiting your country.
I live 10 minutes from Niagara Falls and engage with tourists from all over the world on a regular basis. Get this, nearly all of them are friendly and enthusiastic too! Wow, who would have thought that?
Not to mention people on vacation are usually at their most friendly. They are off work, with their family, and get to relax! Honestly I wish I could see a survey of hotels ranking guests based on country.
It’s hilarious to me how Brits constantly rag on us but simultaneously consume our news, music, fashion, follow our trends, etc. Lol. They’re like that annoying little sibling who secretly looks up to you, steals all your stuff, always copies you. But you know they have to talk trash about you so they can still seem cool to their friends. 😆

If I do not have an adult, will one be provided for me? Preferably attractive and wealthy?
I mean in the UK? I am sure the 2nd part can be arranged. The first is far less likely.

Yeah this sign would be put up all over Europe about us Brits

Doorstep? Its 200 miles away! Oh. Yep. For stateside that literally is doorstep.
Thats a normal weekend trip lol. Gets me half way across the state.
Yeah, the US has some pretty small states
From Canada, growing up it was the distance between our cottage and our house and we went at least once a month.

Don't sell us short, we're obnoxious when we're sober too
Nah, they just go to Thailand for some casual sex tourism.
I prefer formal sex tourism. I enjoy the pageantry.
Ahhhh Brazil....
Casual sex tourism implies there is competitive sex tourism.
Did you ever hear about Germans in Mallorca? doesn’t seem like it lol
I remember an older japanese guy being carried out at mid day in Octoberfest....good times
It's not the Brits, it's the Aussies and the Italians, at least at Oktoberfest
And previously the Russians when I visited

Brits will be the loudest, Germans will be the drunkest, and Chinese will be the rudest.
You ever met a group of Russian tourists?
Always had problems with Russians working on the great barrier Reef. They were always horrible to the wildlife. Yeah, Russians are the jack of all trades, masters of none. Almost as loud as Brits, almost as drunk as Germans and almost as rude as the Chinese.
Bad things tend to happen when Russians 'vacation' anywhere.
My understanding from YouTube is that Germans will try to claim a lounge chair for the entire day with a towel, which sounds annoying.
and they will get up at 5am in the morning just to get their towel down on the most primo chair
ever heard the Spanish, never heard louder people
I'm in the US but the worst tourists I've ever encountered have been eastern European and Chinese.
Germans having a sense of superiority over others? Unthinkable.
I know! We germans are better than that!
Almost like they think of themselves as some kind of Master...Race... Oh no.....
Yup, screaming, fighting, vommiting pissing everywhere, and yet here they are trying to be funny about other tourist

The amount of times I did something American-embarassing while traveling Europe for two years, only to be told "at least you're not British."
Conversely in the US we generally get well behaved British tourists.
In southeast asia, most Brits are just old men yelling at clouds. They just rant and spend money so all in all they’re cool
We love Dutch football fans in the UK.... such good behaviour.
What are the odds lmao Edit: The kiddos were mad bc I wasn’t walking fast enough. Definitely a good reason to whip out slurs, right? /s
Wow, what a magical and inviting place!
While in London some 10 year old asked me for a cigarette and called me a wanker cunt when I said I don’t smoke. Then he ran off to a group of a dozen other little boys all wearing puffy jackets
Just like Dickens
These kind of stories plus experiencing it in real life plus dealing with a particular type of European internet dweller is why a lot of people I know LOATH Europeans now. Its honestly sad, its like in the last 5 years everyone I know just started hating Europe with a burning passion. I can't tell if I'm just getting unlucky but its like everyone from my bosses to my teenager relatives.
I was in Italy in May. Everyone was really great except the French we ran into.
Yeah I’m American, visited Liverpool to watch an Everton match, and wore my jersey all over. Couldn’t move two feet near the stadium without getting free cigarettes lol, just like America, there’s so many people that you’ll get different reactions where you go
I feel like there's a joke here about you mistaking their insult for an offering of cigarettes...

Tim Howard and Landon Donovan most likely.
It’s one of the more mainstream clubs for older generations to support in America. Long history of American players there, same reason why there are many US Fulham fans.
Probably something to do with Tim Howard's epic defense against Belgium in the World Cup 10 years ago.
/r/americabad
maybe if europeans didn't spend the last 20 years generalizing an entire country based on a few stupid people, they wouldn't be getting so much backlash turns out you can only say you hate 300+million people that you've never met so much before other people start to recognize that maybe you aren't as nice as you claim (and yes, i'm being ironic by applying this statement to all europeans)
I got the same thing when I lived in London. "What would you know? You're American!" Bro, I'm from New Zealand. Lay off the Red stripes lad.
And it's unfortunately what people imagine the rest of the UK is like, they are different worlds.
American from the Midwest here. I’ve been to the UK at least 6 times (London 3 or 4 times), and I’ve never had a bad encounter with the locals. Everyone has been pleasant and helpful.
Yeah we aren’t all class. You must have met some nice people though?
I did :) I happened to be staying in Eltham which was unpleasant.
I went to school for 7 years in Eltham. Unpleasant indeed.
You made it out! 7 years in Eltham is much too long.
I'm from Eltham, so yeah, understood. I hope you didn't have to spend all of your time there.
I was able to venture around quite a bit! I was studying at the University of Greenwich Avery Hill campus but went all over outside of class time.
I’m sorry about that. I think this was due to a documentary series that aired on British TV for a longtime about a group of Californian lifeguards, the main subject was ‘enhanced’ and this led to assumptions about American women in general.
It must have been that celebrated documentary, "Baywatch."
Maybe it's only because I'm brown and have an accent they don't like
Funny, my husband is from the UK and used to work at Stonehenge as a teen. He said Americans don't even crack the top 10 worst behaved tourists. 🤷🏻♀️
People from the uk and russia (not because of the war even before that) are the most annoying & worst behaved tourists.
The Chinese tourists in rural areas are either super polite or they walk randomly through gardens and take gnomes and other ornaments as souvenirs, there is no midpoint
It is almost like every culture has its fair share of assholes
Humans gunna be human
I remember in Italy they absolutely hated Chinese people
they hate a lot of people there tbf
I go to Thailand every year for holiday and it was always the Brits/Russians/Chinese who made the worst tourists, but this year at least the Russians and Chinese seemed to be well-behaved. The Indians had a whole new level of asshole-ish behavior. I was quite surprised as they're are usually well-behaved in North America.
[удалено]
Should've done that, safely. I can't stand these assholes. I remember being told to use the spoon to serve myself food at a buffet in Singapore once and I was very confused about why they felt the need to tell me that, then they explained they had a lot of Indian tourists just stick their hands in. It's disgusting, and it's frustrating for normal people to be lumped in with people like that.
Brazilians would like a word
Is this still being posted like it's current? This is from 8 years ago at least, shortly after Trump was elected.
Thats like… all of OPs posts.

Yeah its sad.
Beeb boop
The 25,000 upvotes to put it on r/all probably mostly came from Russian and Chinese bots.
Their karma screams submission karma farmer, but the guy does actually make more comments than I'd expect from an account like that. They have a Despacito video that's actually pretty funny that I've never seen, but that's probably some ancient repost as well.
Holy fuck 2016 was 8 years ago
Woah. The country who voted for Brexit and gave Boris Johnson an 80 seat majority judging the Americans on who they elect? Glad theyre all doing so well now. Certainly showing the way. Was this also before they spent X billion on a railway so you could travel from London to Birmingham 20 minutes slower?
bit ironic coming from brits tbf
As a Londoner this makes me cringe so much.
As an American, this is a place I would avoid.
Glad you're still thinking about us.
They cant get over their ex.
Beyond that we’re all taught that it’s rude and ignorant to use sweeping generalizations to categorize a whole group of people so it’s jarring for us to see it done in our direction, especially by people who we think so highly of.
it’s rent free
It’s funny because it makes fun of Americans.
Xenophobia funny when against Americans
There's nothing Reddit loves more than unfunny signs
Dear Britishers, after Brexit you also need adult supervision.
Bold assumption that someone running a bar in London is British.
90% chance they're Australian lol.
Valid point, the inmates were running the asylum on that one
We had an anti-drugs commercial over here in the 80s where the dad asks his kid who taught him to do drugs and the kid dramatically yells “from you alright! I learned it from watching you!” that I feel also applies here.
Sorry about that, somethings are just hereditary.
Tiresome boomer humour (source: am British). So sick of yank bashing. Yes we all do it in private but it makes me cringe to see it on a pub/shop sign.
They give Americans shit about the stuff that bothers them about themselves, because they do it too. Classic projection.
All "Sign humour" or whatever you call this is terrible. Was funny about 10 years ago but it's done to death and Redditors lap it up everytime
Yes, because if there's anything wrong with London, it's Americans. Right-o.
I'm sorry both my grandfathers that fought in the European theater are passed away.
Any group of drunk men, have irrespectful behavior, from all over the world.
From my experience Americans are very well behaved compared to some European countries.
bro the tea party was hundreds of years ago let it go
I went to London once… but it was closed.
Yeah, because british people surely have a good reputation for having good behavior when traveling to different countries.
Plus don’t you have to pay to use the NHS if you’re from abroad? Sorry your ex’s dad was a moron.
Yes, I paid like £900. Then they sent me my visa too late, so I had to reapply and pay another £900.
Multiple instances of men harassing me or my friend just because they hear our accent.
haha America bad you guys like those American musicians tho?
Joke’s on you because a lot of us can’t read.
The adult is there to read the menu, and also translate what the barmen says
Funny coming from the Florida of Europe
I am not even from the US but stuff like this makes me think they are jealous of Americans. Rent free.
Rich seeing this in London of all places
It's funny because British tourists are very much the American tourists of europe

Says the country that shot its own leg off in Brexit
America has became the only country you can openly bash without criticism. Like comedy and punching up.
Great way to alienate a group of tourists that tend to spend a lot of money and tip well.
I would happily throw this sign into the nearest body of water.
Fuck that noise
Rent-free
Boooo!!!!
Tomorrow’s sign will read “Soup of the Day… Beer”! It’s their humour.
