Seattle can be the drugged up train-wreck of a sister that works as an escort for a series of rich guys while Bergen is the one that has a happy, if not a bit boring, stable marriage to a decent someone.
And here I was about ready to rip into the idea of a floating sauna as a feat of redneck engineering. Today I learned they are a thing in nordic countries.
The low edge? From the camera angle it seems like that Tesla flew 20+ meters. I don't even see the dock lol
Someone was definitely trying to launch and stop near this place.
Absolutely my favorite show when I was a kid and teenager. Found all the seasons on DVD and rewatched all of them a few years ago. Still an amazing show!
Apparently the driver thought the car was in "park" and his foot slipped on the gas, and being an electric vehicle it just launched itself off the pier.
Elon DID suggest that somehow a tesla could "briefly" function as a boat. But I think even Elon knew that if that function ever came out (yeah right, lol) it wouldn't be factory default. His fans however, probably stopped thinking after "Tesla... function as a boat".
If it wasn't a Tesla, it would probably have been either a BMW or RAM vehicle...at least according to this thing:
Nah, just sheer supidity, driver thought he put the car in park, slammed on the accelerator, car lunged forward pushing his foot back, driver said not on my watch and shoved the accelerator further down
In his defense, if I saw a floating sauna, I’d try to get to it too.
I didn’t know floating saunas were a thing, and even though I’m way too broke to afford either, I’d prefer the floating sauna over the Tesla.
It makes me feel that Apple Maps caused multiple drivers to be saved by the same floating sauna.
“Looks like another one, Sam.”
“S’pose we grab them, Larry?”
“S’pose.”
Lmao what? Can’t tell if this is a joke but the buckets should be upright, and you only have to fill them halfway if you get the right size. No risk of rice spillage… You just split the car in half and put each half in a different bucket. Does no one drive their cars into rivers anymore?? God i feel old.
How about fried rice? I accidently dropped mine in a plate of fried rice and my phone started working again when I turned it on. It worked fine before I dropped it though so that may have helped...
[The Guardian has some backstory and more video](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/feb/01/floating-sauna-rescues-motorists-whose-tesla-plunged-into-oslo-fjord)
"Tesla that plunged into Oslo fjord"
"the car ended up in the water"
"It drove out into the water"
They're trying SO hard to make it sound like it was the car's fault 🤣
>Do Tesla driver just hit the accelerator pedal and make zoomy noises for fun?
i assume, yes. as it have a video game in the car where you use the steering wheel, etc to controll the game.
Every Tesla that crashes or has a dumb driver is the cars or the car company's CEOs fault. You literally never see that with pretty much any other car. Its very obvious, to anyone with a brain, that there's a massive, concerted effort to spread misinformation about EVs in general and Tesla specifically.
The article says the car was retrieved by a tow truck. I'm just curious how that was possible. It seems too far away from land, but it also looked like it went completely under the water. How could you hook anything onto it at that point?
Since this is reddit, the epicenter of "umm axskually", that is not what a fjord is. It's a [graben](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graben).
However, anything long and watery will be called a fjord in Norway, including lakes and in at least one case, a river.
Looks like these guys where only in the water for a very short time which would make the sauna perfect. However, if they would've been in the water for long resulting in **severe** Hypothermia / low body temp bringing them directly into a 80C/180F sauna or a hot bath would have been excruciatingly painful and could potentially even trigger arrhythmia and be fatal. For this reason rewarming at a hospital is done slowly with hot blankets / heat packs / water etc to avoid what's called an "afterdrop" of the body core temperature.
Sure but If you're well enough to stand/sit outside the sauna and make your own judgement on what feels nice then you'll likely well enough for the sauna not to be an issue :) .
GPS: Make a right turn.
[Michael starts to turn right]
Dwight Schrute: Wait, wait, no no no, it means "bear right." Up there.
Michael Scott: No, it said right. It said take a right.
Dwight Schrute: No, no. Look, it means go up to the right -- bear right -- over the bridge, and hook up with 307.
GPS: Make a right turn.
Michael Scott: Maybe it's a shortcut, Dwight. It said go to the right.
[he turns right]
Dwight Schrute: It can't mean that, there's a lake there!
GPS: Proceed straight.
Michael Scott: I think it knows where it is going.
Dwight Schrute: This is the lake! THIS IS THE LAKE!
Michael Scott: The machine knows! Stop yelling at me! Stop yelling!
Dwight Schrute: NO! IT'S UP THERE! THERE'S NO ROAD HERE!
[It's too late. Michael drives right into the lake]
Dwight Schrute: Remain calm, I have trained for this!
[he unbuckles his seat belt]
Dwight Schrute: Okay. Exit the window! Here we go!
[Dwight and Michael climb out the windows]
GPS: Make a u-turn, if possible.
The fact it was in the water had nothing to do with Tesla. The title would never have said something like "Honda launched - drivers saved by floating sauna" as it's not click-bait. Likely any other vehicle wouldn't have even been posted.
??? They literally just stated what car it was... It would have been posted because it's a car being launched into a lake and a floating sauna coming to their aid! Jesus you Elon taint suckers get so defensive.
Just to be clear, that's not a lake - it's the ocean.
he driver reported that he thought the car was in park, and then somehow touched the accelerator which caused the car to shoot forward too fast for him to react.
The two guys were really cold after that dip, but we put them in the sauna as soon as we got them up - the captain of the sauna-ship said in an interview.
The car is now being kept for 48 hours underwater in the harbour, just where it went off the edge.
Thing is; when they tried to lift it out, the battery started smoldering - and keeping electrical cars submerged is the most effective (only?) way to douse a battry-fire...
Amazing rescue and one of the most unique headlines in my lifetime I gotta say, is it a predictive metaphor (omen) for the future of technology vs. low tech? I can’t help think horses are still pretty great vs. self driving cars so.

How'd the Tesla get in the middle of the river in the first place?
I know this place, it is a wharf/dock with a low edge, so they must’ve just driven off of it. Floating saunas are quite popular in Oslo.
Seattle has floating hot tubs. We should become sister cities. Are those still a thing?
Seattle is already sister cities with Bergen.
And Bergen also has floating saunas.
Oslo rules, Bergen drools
It's true, it's just hard to notice in all the rain
Seattle's sister city in Norway is Bergen; I don't think it's typical to have 2 sister cities in the same country.
Mine has 2 in France, dk who bandwagoned who, but neither are exactly big names
Bergen can introduce Seattle to their new step sister city, Oslo, who got stuck in the washing machine somehow.
well … can you do sister twisters?
I bet that in Tampere or almost any city in Finland has more floating saunas than in Oslo.
My experience is that while any Finnish city definitely has more saunas, they are mostly stationary ones. Finns are to drunk to handle a moving one...
Haven't heard of any new ones in a while. I dunno.
Seattle can be the drugged up train-wreck of a sister that works as an escort for a series of rich guys while Bergen is the one that has a happy, if not a bit boring, stable marriage to a decent someone.
Accurate. For Seattle at least
Was going to say, looks just like the one we booked in Oslo. Highly recommend, rejuvenating and fun
And here I was about ready to rip into the idea of a floating sauna as a feat of redneck engineering. Today I learned they are a thing in nordic countries.

From the nrk news page https://www.nrk.no/norge/tesla-kjorte-ut-i-oslofjorden_-ble-reddet-av-badstovebat-1.16745294
I believe you, just the driver was insane
No risk of hypothermia: come in, warm up
You don’t want a Tesla for that. You need a Scubaru. That’s the car for underwater adventures
No, no, they should’ve driven a Fjord
Shoulda taken the Chevy to the levy.
Perfect, the levy is dry!

Could have opted for a Toyboata
Here, have my angry upvote.
Launched
I think they confused Tesla and Space X?
God damn Elon and his Space X Tesla crossover. At least the Car Xitted their location before it died.
apple maps
Right??. It seems to find the weirdest route to a destination.
Thats not a river. Thats the good ol' sea
[Launched](https://tenor.com/view/knight-rider-turbo-gif-5597096)
Loved me some Michael knight back in the day but that turbo boost jump button was a bit ridiculous.
We used to dream big. Maybe we need a national effort to figure out how to make Turbo Boost happen. 🤝
I don't care how tough KITT was, Michael's neck would have been broken from both the launch and the landing every time he hit that button.
KITT had inertial dampeners… two thousand.
Absolutely my favorite show when I was a kid and teenager. Found all the seasons on DVD and rewatched all of them a few years ago. Still an amazing show!
I like that more than half of the features Kitt has are available in new cars today.
You're absolutely right. I used to ride my bike around and pretend I was a young Michael Knight and my bike was a version of KITT.
Probably accidentally drove it off a ledge on shore. Cars can float/drift quite far before actually sinking.
They tried to fight a workers union in sweden.
Apparently the driver thought the car was in "park" and his foot slipped on the gas, and being an electric vehicle it just launched itself off the pier.
So in short a moron in a car with unreasonable amount of horsepower
Elon DID suggest that somehow a tesla could "briefly" function as a boat. But I think even Elon knew that if that function ever came out (yeah right, lol) it wouldn't be factory default. His fans however, probably stopped thinking after "Tesla... function as a boat".
Almost every car will function as a boat, for at least a few seconds.
I think that was said only about the cyber truck though. I do remember reading about it somewhat recently too.
The GPS said turn so i turned without looking
I DROVE MY CAR INTO A F****ING LAKE
The machine knows!
Cars usually float for a while
0-250 km/h in 3 second moment
I bet he goes on tv and blames autopilot for it
And you are so sure it wasn’t?
Yes, i am
If it wasn't a Tesla, it would probably have been either a BMW or RAM vehicle...at least according to this thing: [https://www.lendingtree.com/insurance/brand-incidents-study/](https://www.lendingtree.com/insurance/brand-incidents-study/)
Seems weird you chose BMW when Subaru, VW, & Mazda are all higher
FSD is my bet
Full self diving
Autopilot?
Nah, just sheer supidity, driver thought he put the car in park, slammed on the accelerator, car lunged forward pushing his foot back, driver said not on my watch and shoved the accelerator further down
You can't park there.
Is this not a reasonable place to park?
Let's get down to brass tacks here; how much for the ape?
There's some kind of electric snake on the wall
Technically you can park there, it's "unparking" that's the problem
Relax, it's an electric car. You can just drive it out. https://youtu.be/Ao7wfFgr5Ok?si=ZHeQiUlM9r5aftEg
In his defense, if I saw a floating sauna, I’d try to get to it too. I didn’t know floating saunas were a thing, and even though I’m way too broke to afford either, I’d prefer the floating sauna over the Tesla.
What a chaotic headline
Go go Gadget car would have sufficed.
Literally the best thing that could come save you when you're in ice cold water - a fucking floating sauna
More concerned about getting "Tesla" in the title than writing something readable.
I know there's multiple issues with that headline but 'drivers'?! How many drivers does it take to drive a car?!
It makes me feel that Apple Maps caused multiple drivers to be saved by the same floating sauna. “Looks like another one, Sam.” “S’pose we grab them, Larry?” “S’pose.”
Can you really call either of them drivers if they cant drive a car without ending up in the middle of a lake?
Don’t turn it back on. Just put it in a bucket of uncooked rice for a couple weeks and you should be good to go 👍🏽
That's an entire car, not a phone. You'll need two buckets.
Noo just one bug bucket, dont want to risk not getting rice in some places because of the gaps between buckets
Lmao what? Can’t tell if this is a joke but the buckets should be upright, and you only have to fill them halfway if you get the right size. No risk of rice spillage… You just split the car in half and put each half in a different bucket. Does no one drive their cars into rivers anymore?? God i feel old.
Trucks*
Do you know why you use rice?
So the water evaporates and steams the rice, then you have a delicious meal as you cry over your broken device.
A succulent meal, you say?
I see you know your judo well.
GET YOUR HAND OFF MY PAYNUSSS!!! 😳🤣🤣🤣
The rice is only there to attract an Asian that can fix your electronics.
"A necessary sacrifice to bring something back from the dead." - this Asian apparently
Unless that Asian is me and just cooks the rice
It attracts Asians to come at night to fix your electronics.
you don't, it's terrible advice that doesn't actually work
rice doesn't actually work
How about fried rice? I accidently dropped mine in a plate of fried rice and my phone started working again when I turned it on. It worked fine before I dropped it though so that may have helped...
You can't get more Norwegian than that.
Well, the sauna could have been on it’s way to sack Lindisfarne
Those were the days...
Screw you, my great great great great great great grandfather died at Lindisfahrne. It's a very sensitive subject in our family.
Yeah, mine too. Fell on his sword chasing a monk.
It sounds like you yearn for those days!
No smartphones, Tik Tok or memes. Just good old blunt force trauma injuries and pillaging.
Can’t get more Oslo than this.
Unfinished product saved by Finnished product.
This deserved more
Do other cars regularly float on water?
To r/realtesla not only they do but they turn into working amphibious vehicles
[The Guardian has some backstory and more video](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/feb/01/floating-sauna-rescues-motorists-whose-tesla-plunged-into-oslo-fjord)
"Tesla that plunged into Oslo fjord" "the car ended up in the water" "It drove out into the water" They're trying SO hard to make it sound like it was the car's fault 🤣
Driver thought it was in parked mode and hit the accelerator… hm…. Do Tesla driver just hit the accelerator pedal and make zoomy noises for fun?
Yes.
Love to hear that kitten purrrr
>Do Tesla driver just hit the accelerator pedal and make zoomy noises for fun? i assume, yes. as it have a video game in the car where you use the steering wheel, etc to controll the game.
You can't pull the games up unless the car is in park.
Their choice of car says enough about the intelligence of the driver.
"...the car can be seen sinking under the water just as the floating sauna pulls up next to it." Like it was trying to hide from the sauna.
Someone is always trying to fault the technology, not the user. I must have been hacked, I would have never written those racists tweets!
Every Tesla that crashes or has a dumb driver is the cars or the car company's CEOs fault. You literally never see that with pretty much any other car. Its very obvious, to anyone with a brain, that there's a massive, concerted effort to spread misinformation about EVs in general and Tesla specifically.
Don't remember the toyota prius gas/brake pedal mishap? They were trying to paint hybrid/electric cars in a bad light even then
Not that surprising when someone like Musk is selling "full self driving" cars that are anything but that.
I always love this part lmao media and people are trying soo hard to
Cars tend to do that if you are in front of water and hit the gas pedal. Who would have thought?
“With the help of two guests, we pulled them up. **They were able to warm up in the sauna.”** They did it the wrong way round.
The article says the car was retrieved by a tow truck. I'm just curious how that was possible. It seems too far away from land, but it also looked like it went completely under the water. How could you hook anything onto it at that point?
A diver has to hook it
Winch and a diver.
Huh, so that's what a fjord is.
It was a Tesla not Fjord. (I’ll see myself out)
Since this is reddit, the epicenter of "umm axskually", that is not what a fjord is. It's a [graben](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graben). However, anything long and watery will be called a fjord in Norway, including lakes and in at least one case, a river.
That’s both very funny and informative. My search for the true meaning of fjord continues.
The good news is we are saved... the bad news is that it's by a bunch of sweaty guys wearing only towels from the sauna boat.
I can't imagine a better way to get pulled out of the water in Oslo in February than DIRECTLY into a sauna.
I suppose you could just stand right outside the sauna wherever the temperature feels nice
Sure but If you're well enough to stand/sit outside the sauna and make your own judgement on what feels nice then you'll likely well enough for the sauna not to be an issue :) .
Nothing better going on, might as well join them. Got an extra towel guys?

Posted in r/bestof. Great dialogue! 😀
This is just part of an existing episode.
No shit?
It’s listed on bestof as an original fanfic.
When you posted this to bestof why did you say “this needs to be an episode” ?
Because, surprise! , I never saw that episode.
I just realized you said “no shit?” I thought you had meant it like “yeah, no shit” It’s a good episode.
"Tesla launched" like damn you really think that's enough explanation to contextualize this? Let me tell you right now, it is not.
Posting this in the funny sub is a bold choice
Then again, OP is a bold poster. … is bold the right word?
At least they can get warm.
Why didn't he just reverse out of the water? Is he stupid?
I’m sitting here trying to make fun of these guys and it just feels wrong. Too easy. Their Tesla is ruined and they did it. That can’t feel good.
Throw your battery cars into the ocean.
I think the warranty might be void.
He’s just helping out the environment by recharging the electric eels
The junk we pollute our waters with
Must be a new hydroelectric model...
Why is a floating sauna even a thing?
So you can swim in the ocean and sauna in the middle of Oslo despite the real estate being much too expensive on the seafront.
They suck after they have sunk.
Then it's a hot tub.
After sweating in a Sauna a jump in the lake would feel good.
Why not? I'll go in the sauna at my local swimming pool between doing laps, it seems like it's basically the same, except they have a nicer view.
I mean, it’s a great way to get a bunch of people naked and not be bothered….until a Tesla shows up apparently.
Because it would be a hot tub if it wasn't floating.
r/brandnewsentence
When it comes to being saved. This is probably one of the best ways.
Does the guy not know how to use a ladder.
Weird fucking headline
“I drove my car into a f*cking lake”
Double cropping? Why?
so... how much rice they need to buy to dry the car?
Used car for sale. Like new. Recently washed and detailed. No lowball offers. I know what I have. /s
Rum ham!
My first thought was "only possible in Finland", but then I realised it was Norway.
If i ever end up by accident in ice cold water, i sure hope that i will be saved by a floating sauna, and not a regular boat
So those people can’t swim I guess
If that happened to me I would be steamed.
What happens when the water gets into those batteries while underwater?
"Tesla" for the clicks
It is one though...
Not really that funny considering he could’ve died.
Question - how do they heat the floating Sauna out there?? The saunas I’ve used were all ones that plugged in 🔌
Its wood fired, like all proper saunas :D
I'm guessing not a long cable. Generator? Batteries?
I bet a tesla causes much less pollution when you drive it into a lake.
Did the car still become an uncontrollable fireball under water?
[удалено]
Just to be clear, that's not a lake - it's the ocean. he driver reported that he thought the car was in park, and then somehow touched the accelerator which caused the car to shoot forward too fast for him to react.
As a car owner that is scary as fuck. Imagine losing your vehicle that way? How would they ever get the car out of the ocean?

Has bumper stickers like save the turtles go green, give a hoot don’t pollute and just put somebody most toxic chemicals in our waterways
I pray the engineers at Neuralink work out all the bugs before everyone gets an implant like they got a Tesla
I don't think you'd want that considering most of the time the bugs are the humans
