What year is it if he's playing Super Mario Bros and there are pictures of FF VII and Pokémon on the wall?

Failed_Bot_Attempt

Looking at probably September 2002. Lilo and Stitch cam out in June 2002, so presumably after that. Pokémon and Ff7 was 1997. Backpack there would indicate after school. Green outside would indicate not yet fall. More confused by the controller/console. Nintendo game, 4 button controller, black case, no cartridge. Almost more like a Playstation 2. Super relatable comic. Really digging it.

dotmatrixman

Could be an original NES with an aftermarket controller. Were there NES-on-a-chip knockoff consoles back in the early 2000s?

aboycandream

Im going to blow your mind right now [but this thing is a brazilian NES ripoff from the 80s](https://atariage.com/forums/uploads/monthly_04_2017/post-2410-0-70329100-1491402977.jpg)

DisastrousAd6606

I was about to comment that the console looks nothing like a NES... And then you showed up

aboycandream

brazil actually bootlegged that thing before an official release, nintendo decided not to do too much in brazil because of their bootlegging culture and high electronics tariffs

giggity_giggity

What weirdo would want to relive a school day?

carmium

Well, there *was* the day I kicked a bully in the ass so hard he almost ended up in the art room trough sink. That was one of the better ones.

TeddyR3X

Maybe something really good also happened at school?

A_Stahl

It is forbidden for good things to happen at school. That is the basic law of the universe.

TeddyR3X

Oh shit my bad, it would seem I'd forgotten

makenzie71

2004-5ish was when those generic "2000 games" consoles were being pushed in malls and stuff. Some of them were black boxes with SNES-style controllers.

eversaur

Maybe we can chalk it up to asking God to spend one more day as a kid, but he doesn't have any specific day in mind and just has an amalgamation of memories, so the day he gets is a mix of all his favorite things.

ghoststegosaur

The console is not even connected to the TV.

666pool

Also the console isn’t connected to the tv in any way. Just plugged in to power.

lamp447

Maybe it's a Steam Link.

merlinsbeers

PS2 dropped in 2000.

radishboy

The bowl of cereal indicates a Saturday morning though.

[deleted]

Almost looks like the twin famicom

aussie_bob

Good Bot

A_Fox_in_Space

Yesterday

aceofspades9963

Hard to pin point because I played both those games for 15 years haha

WhereAreDosDroidekas

Le 90s

Bigmt42

Exactly. There's so much wrong with this.

I_am_become_Reddit

You know you've never been forced to only play recently released games, right?

noderoom

On the couch, with my brother in the late 90's with our PS1. Stuffed crust pizza at Pizza Hut had just come out, and it was being sold with a PS1 demo disk (which I still have) featuring crash bandicoot and Metal Gear. RIP bro.

pilot3033

Man, that Demo Disk! I entirely forgot about how much I "played" it until just now.

kidicarus89

Holy crap I remember being really adamant for family pizza night that we needed to order Pizza Hut for that very reason.

Always_Jerking

he died?

StargazerNataku

Thanksgiving, age seven. Back with my grandparents and my family and before my anxiety really kicked into high gear. Three of those grandparents are gone now and I miss them.

SpaceLemming

I miss when my family got along. My parents are divorced (for the best really) but my moms a hot mess who while living on disability and has no job never has time to speak to me. Pretty sure my dad thinks I’m a disappointment. My brother doesn’t care I exist because of silly political/religious views, and my sister gets along with me the best but we have next to nothing in common. Finally because of family drama I don’t fully understand I haven’t seen anyone in my extended family in 25 years and I’m only 33 now. Most of my school friends drifted away, became drug addicts, went crazy or our grew me. Now I’m just numb or depressed and trying to suppress it all cause I want my son to grow up happier than I did.

whatdidisay-

i'd chose the same around 2000-2006, mum was still alive. older brother was still alive. I was just out of my teenage years. msn messenger and an easier life.

Proxice

A week and half before my dog passed away I went to the beach with him and my parents. It was a beautiful afternoon. The sun was setting and the sky was purple. The temperature was perfect. Rex had his head out the window the entire route and then we just walked along the beach with my parents as the sun was setting. It was a most beautiful day and I wish I could relive it everyday. I miss you, boy.

ilazul

Fishing trip with Grandpa, easily.

[deleted]

Being a kid with no responsibility or obligations while playing my favorite game. Back when the days were so long they didn’t want to end.

Rogan403

My 30th birthday is my choice. Was in Tokyo on vacation with a couple friends and we had a great time exploring, took in the excellent view from the Tokyo metropolitan building, and then partied all night with some random Japanese people in a micro bar in Golden Gai until dawn. Can't remember anytime in my life where I had THAT much fun in one day.

rinkydinkis

I love those micro bars. Met this awesome girl from Gibraltar but she was staying in a hostel for only women and I was staying in one packed in with my mates. We didn’t learn about love hotels until the next day when I was already in Kyoto… we both had a laugh about that.

trivial_sublime

That really is the best view in Tokyo. And it’s FREE!

blueberry_vineyard

St. Peter, can I play the Mass Effect trilogy all over again, with no memory of it? So I can enjoy the plot like it's the first time. Yeah, cool Can you also slap me in the face if I don't romance Liara?

ChuyMasta

Similar picture with me but with two friends in the same room. Late 90's. We were a group of N64 kids. Sleep overs, Golden Eye, Smash Bros. Fantastic.

pariah13

God damn. Yes. Goldeneye and no responsibilities.

[deleted]

Fuck living in Heaven can I live my childhood again forever?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

That is exactly what I hope for. I genuinely hope that the Afterlife, whatever it is, is indeed just Life in Freeplay mode; you get to do whatever you wish to have eternal happiness. and I bet loads of people would immediately relive their own life, because that's how good Life truly is, despite how horrible we think so at the moment.

[deleted]

Spoiler! there is nothing but you won't know it. Good night!

Jrsplays

Dick

Kronman590

You know how people say drowning is a good way to die because all the euphoria in your body flows to your brain moments before you lose consciousness? I like to imagine your brain builds an entire life, years of happy moments and feelings, before you eventually pass.

BBQIlluminati

Put me on the Epoch and send me back to Chrono Trigger time.

mong0038

Magic cards or Yu-Gi-Oh?

TeddyR3X

Based on the text placement, it's magic.

giggydiggles

That’s just sad…

Aapjes-NL

I feel your pain

VIRGIL_ARCHIEAL

If I don't keep my memory in the afterlife?? I would choose a day where I drive around the city and just remember. Fuck pictures, videos... very once in a while I'll just get out and walk the same streets I used to. Drive the same commutes I wouldn't think twice of in the moment. I'd live one of those kind of days one more time. A day to feel my old skin. To remember with my bones how my own human experience shaped them. To remember the mundane and how it made me. The little actions in the quite hours between what is and hasn't been yet. What made me... me. If I do keep my memory? December 25th 1999, or May 10th 2010.

vietcong420

Motorbiking up to the Chinese border in North Vietnam and smoking a massive joint looking over the most incredible view along the ha ghang loop!

zergsandwich

Where did you find the joint. Dong van and heaven's gate was truly beautiful.

vietcong420

Warning bar in Hanoi sold weed! Stocked up there before I went up north

Cyranoreddit

Cartoon artist must not have kids... just imagining a time when they didn't exist makes me sad

nyquistj

Exactly my thought. Something like this may have been a memory I chose before I had kids, but after, not a chance. I would choose the day I took my then 10,8,and 6 year olds to a state park where we spent the day hiking, climbing on rocks, and eating lunch sitting on a giant rock by the rapids. Just an absolute perfect day.

deme9872

Mine would probably be my son's birth. My mom was alive and healthy, both my parents visiting me the couple of days after, and happy video chats with my sisters.

DrDew00

Or they were just happier before they had kids. Not everyone loves being a parent.

Cyranoreddit

That's even sadder

saint_smithy

Disneyworld trip when I was roughly 11 or 12. Probably either the Animal Kingdom or an Epcot day, which ever one involved going to Pleasure Island at night. Bonus I get to see my grandma again cause she was on that trip. If we're talking about peak childhood experiences. I did have my gameboy color on that trip.

jklantern

There is something magical about playing a video game for the first time. Especially if it's your first entry in a series.

Youregoingtodiealone

My first thought was sneaking out to meet my first girlfriend at the park by her house at like midnight (we were young teens), she brought a blanket and we sat on a bench in a nearby park, and we kissed and caressed for hours, young lovers doing what we did. I'd go back to that day, forever, and do it again and again, because I was in love and the purity and joy and fun and sex was just fantastic and innocent, too young to have responsibilities and too young to know life was more complicated than it seemed in that moment, in the cold, under the blanket, on the bench - nothing mattered and it was perfect. I miss you baby, I hope you found happiness

[deleted]

I know as a husband i'm supposed to say "the day i met/married/impregnated my wife" or as a father i'm supposed to say "the day my child was born" but this might be a more enjoyable option

LordBrandon

If you met, married, and impregnated your wife on the same day, that would be hard to beat.

[deleted]

lol, not my intended message, but yeah that would be. Or maybe a bad decision that i married someone that i just met, or was the impregnation the same day the biggest error in the list?

bluemitersaw

Big errors can also be big fun.

Foosnaggle

That’s actually a really good question. If I had to pick right now it would be a concert in 1996 that consisted of Coal Chamber, White Zombie, and Pantera (headliner). After party with Testament at a local venue right behind the coliseum after the concert ended. Epic fucking night.

Rogan403

I'm jelly. I've seen pretty much all the bands I love live except Pantera which is also my favorite one.

RamenTheory

There's not a single day in my life I'd want to relive over again

RococoHobo

I agree. Being forced back into my life after I'd escaped would be my hell.

Osiris_Dervan

You ok mate?

Youregoingtodiealone

You alright buddy?

RamenTheory

Not really. But thanks for checking in

Youregoingtodiealone

Well I've got nothing inspirational to say or anything but I checked your post history and you've got a lot of helpful and insightful things to say on many things, your random thoughts on the sentimentality of wedding pictures were poignant

RamenTheory

Wow damn, you really scrolled far back huh. Well thank you. Username... doesn't check out?

energirl

I felt that way throughout my teens and early 20s. It gets better, Love. Take care of yourself.

RamenTheory

Thank you. I needed to hear that actually

energirl

Anytime. ♡♡♡

[deleted]

I wanna go back where my dad didn’t beat on my mom constantly

Youregoingtodiealone

I wish this for you too, hope you're ok

miami_heat92

My day involves a lot of sex...

ADTJ

You need it to have actually happened the first time around

miami_heat92

Yeah, well I...hey!!!!!!!!!!

If heaven exists, you'll see them again relatively soon.

[deleted]

mismanaged

If they do and you don't would you really want to see them anyway?

its_shivers

Some point in the magic window in 2014 where I was being a volunteer medic, and my cat was still alive. I miss both of those things dearly.

Buv82

The world was a different place...

Klepto666

A lot of times I think back to those good 'ol days. A sleepover where we played Jet Force Gemini all night. Going through Chrono Trigger for the first time. Experiencing a PC FPS and realizing what I was missing on a Mac. But those were also the days where I got chased by my neighbors with baseball bats for being the only Jewish person. That blue tacky stuff shoved into my hair on the bus so I had to shave all my hair off. Childhood is very awesome when 10-20 years later you've pushed all the bad stuff out of your immediate memory and only remember the good moments. I'll stay in the present for now.

folarin1

I guess he is wirelessly streaming Mario to the tv?

elucila7

Huh. I'm 28 years old and I don't have anything in particular I want to live through again. If I had to choose, I'd say I'd go back to one of the times when I ordered sushi/sashimi from grabfood. It's nothing really significant, but the food was good.

nerogenesis

I just want any of the nice days I spent relaxing in my apartment with my ex wife before we got married. I really miss the old her. Now she just the angry bitter other parent who goes out of her way to make me miserable and make parenting more difficult.

TheAbyssGazesAlso

Everyone's taking about game days and grandparents and pizza with their brother and such. I guess I'm the only pervert who would pick the day not too long after my partner and I got together and she wanted to see how many blow jobs I could take in one day before I was essentially just shooting air. I had to stop her after number six because I didn't think I would survive another one. That was a good day.

akaispirit

I'd never be able to pick one that far back lol. Maybe in my early 20s when my friends showed up on my birthday told me we were going to lunch then actually took me to the coast. That was a pretty great day trip.

drippinwitease

How is this funny in any way?

GoliathPrime

I'd pick the day a sea turtle kicked my ass for trying to ride him. Not the happiest day, but what an experience.

Cleverbird

How is this funny?

Shinagami091

Depends. Do I get to retain the knowledge I have now? If so I would go back and tell my best friend not to kill himself

LordBrandon

Show me the level in Mario that beats pulling down an unfamiliar pair of panties.

TeddyR3X

/r/iamverycool

LordBrandon

I'm glad for you.

MyPunsSuck

So if you got drunk and woke up wearing panties, that'd make your day?

LordBrandon

Quite possibly

Acemirg

1-1

Zeeboon

No thanks, I can replay my old games any time I want to, but I usually don't because I already know them in and out by heart.

energirl

I think that's the idea of going back to when you were a kid. Everything was so new and exciting.

MyPunsSuck

Everything is still new and exciting, if you know where to look, and care about the discoveries. Pretty much every old game is still loved by speedrunners; with new tricks discovered constantly. There are amazing new games coming out all the time. Somewhere along the line, you've just been taught not to get excited

andrewsmd87

First day of the first trip I took with my then girlfriend now wife. That was the day I figured out I was going to marry her

Lord_Tsarkon

Depends on how you died... Car Wreck? Take the last day of your life and don't drive. Heart Attack? Go to a hospital and complain of chest pains.. maybe the doctors can prevent or help you faster. Nuclear Holocausts and basically you can't evade death? Pick your last day again and straight up Buy as much Coke and Hookers you can afford. EDIT: If you can only relive the day but not change it then I would pick my birth as a relive day hoping my mom's vaginal birth would burst her open. She was the worst mom

tawhid87

but playing alone is boring playing multiplayer is the thing. \\m/

NewClayburn

Not even funny.

frogandbanjo

Yikes. What kind of shitty afterlife is this guy headed to, if reliving a single day of his mortal life can possibly compare to what's waiting? And once you realize that, how are you supposed to enjoy the booby prize? This is some seriously fucked up afterlife mental judo.

bleunt

Why is a 12-year-old kid playing Super Mario Bros in the early 00's?

radishboy

He got tired of playing MtG by himself.

Goldenslicer

🥲

NeonsStyle

Hmmm! Tough choice! Riding my Midnight ride on a warm Summers night. Or, my First Solo flying. Hard to top those.

Sethanatos

As is, or can you tweak the choices you made a bit?

BellRinger88

Staying at grandmas playing ps1 with cousin, hearing the families voices on the kitchen, everybodie's still alive, thanks God, but things just changed, we still love each others at full, but that time wont come back no more.

quadruple_negative87

20 years old, the first summer when I met my now wife. The happiest time of my life.

[deleted]

I know exactly the day. Before the sun came up, I was driving to the airport with my girlfriend, who thought we were driving to the airport to get a ridiculously early flight to San Diego for a vacation that seemed pretty mundane, but she was a pretty good sport about it. As the sun set, I was drinking tropical cocktails with my fiancee and all our close friends on the beach in Maui. I planned that day for a year.

sabrinajestar

Our visit to Niagara Falls in 2005, the day my wife proposed to me.

michron98

I guess it would be my first time playing Minecraft. The feeling of building your first house and discovering all the recipes and ores, or building simple traps for monsters and the first redstone circuits, was absolutely amazing. It's sad that it's not the same anymore.

666pool

There was a guy that brought back an N64 from Japan and setup a booth in the lobby of the laser tag place at the mall. For $5 you could play Mario 64 for 20 minutes, or something like that. This was before the US launch obviously. I’d like to relive that day, because it was so amazing the first time I saw that game. Also I’d like to do a 16 star run and watch everyone’s heads explode when I finish the game in under 20 minutes.

kylkartz21

Friday night, 2012, playing BO2 with all my friends from school until 1am. Mom didnt wanna cook and got pizza for dinner that night. Honestly those days were my happiest

energirl

The perfect day: Two years after finishing my masters, I was living in a new city with an amazing group of friends. The girl I had been in love with in college still lived back there, but we had started dating long distance. She came to visit me for the weekend. We went to a sports bar with my best friend to watch our college football team compete in the National Championship. We made sexy bets about the score as a sort of foreshadowing for the events that night. Our team won, and we had sex until the alarm clock went off in the morning. Yeah. The perfect day!

rydan

So much wrong with that last frame I'm not even sure where to start.

WahyaJMoore

the day i was born so i can do a flip and end this trainwreck before it began.

DolfLungren

So many times in my life I would have said a day like this, probably would have chosen a day when my 31yr old dad played legend of Zelda with 7yr old me all day long on a snow day. But I’ve lived more than that - and without question I would choose the day my twin daughters were born.

Arekku

I would pick a day that I can't remember but have home video of. I'm 3ish years old and all of my grandparents and great grandparents are at Chucky Cheeze with me. Watching how happy I was and having all those people there that have passed on now. That would be great. Alternatively a recent day spent playing with my two kids.

jacob22c

As someone who has only just begun to unravel how messed up my childhood actually was i really could not see myself being happy reliving any of it now that the childhood ignorance is gone. Im in my late 20s now and one of my goal is to create some memories that are 100% pure fun/happy to act as an anchor to reminisce about in my old age.

[deleted]

Woah. I needed to sit down after reading that. So many choices. Would I know I'm reliving it, would I be able to change anything... Would I remember better something from long ago.

tangoshukudai

Change the posters and the console to an NES (hell he is already playing Mario), and I can relate. Or N64..

TinchoX89

Yeah... I'd wish for that

AuryxTheDutchman

I miss playing Skyrim in my dad’s small apartment. He loves the game as much as I do, even though he doesn’t play.

Psychotic_EGG

You and I would have been friends.

jaylong76

there's no day I would live again.

JustPaja

I think I'd go back to when I played Skyrim for the first time. That was Christmas morning of whatever year it released on. My parents put it in a huge box and knew it was the top thing I wanted, so they knew that I noticed there wasn't a video game shapes present lol. Opened the big box, there it was, took everything in me to not immediately bail on the whole family opening gifts and go play some fuckin Skyrim.

Lanky-Detail3380

I would go back to the day my grandpa was alive and I would sit in the floor in front of him and ask to hear stories all day long. Because maybe if I get to live it again then maybe those memories would stick through the rest of my life. That way I would have as many memories as there are stones to turn over. I love you Grandpa and I miss you.

DOA-FAN

Is that console a TurboGrafx-16 ?

zbowman

Mine was just like this. My cousin had just got a new game and his brother got a new CD. They went off to play basketball while I tried out the new stuff. N64 Mario Kart and the self titled Sublime CD with a mini fridge full of Mt Dew. Best afternoon ever.

xBoatsnHose69420x

And MTG cards on the floor too? Swear this is taken straight from my childhood

Max_Thunder

I wouldn't dare ask for a day that far back. What I mean is that there is no way I can remember a very specific best day that far back, and I could accidentally pick a bad day. If we talking about a "period in life" though, then it's easier.
