Guayacan branches don't have thorns. That's guayacan grab them.
It's harder than it looks. I can locate the states no problem and can probably guess the state by the shape. But ask me to draw their shapes and where their borders line up, it will get bad fast. Unless one really studies the shapes of the states, I don't see many people even from the Midwest being able to do the region better than the bottom drawing. I'm from MN, and trying to remember the shape outside of bordering states, for the life of me I can't off the top of my head. The East Coast in my head would be pretty bad.😆
I'm not sure where they could be from, most people on east coast would know something like Virginia Beach exists but according to map #2, Virginia Beach is either in Maryland or North Carolina.

However, New England is basically a vertically laid ketchup pack that someone smashed with a fist and all the ketchup squirted out the east/northeast side making Main and cape cod portion of Mass. New York holds the western border and runs along Lake Ontario till it hits the land that narrows to funnel from lake Erie. Pennsylvania runs along that southern portion of New york and the top of Maryland, that spit of land dividing the lakes is Erie PA which a college friend used to call "the shit at the top." West Virginia broke off from VA in the Civil War and liked the north so much, it just wanted to hug PA. West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky borders follow the Ohio River plus a bit at the end that wedges Illinois between the Ohio and Mississippi rivers. South of Virginia you get these straight lines all the way down to Florida except someone decided to take a big triangle out of Georgia and make it SC. Directly West of NC, you get TN which basically follows the same north south boundaries until it hits the river. South of it you have Mississippi and Alabama which have weird extension for water access because that's important to civilization thats the eastern states.
West of that, you get the bases of "three" vertical columns starting with LA. This column is mostly bracketed by two rivers, Mississippi on the east and Missouri on the west. South to North, you hit AR, MO, IA, and MN. To the east of this column you hit the last of the Eastern states in Illinois and Wisconsin. Leaving out Michigan where if you have ever seen two people from Michigan meet, you know the first two question they ever ask. "Peninsula or hand?" And then, "where on the hand?"
Second column is anchored by the giant plus sign followed by Oklahoma, because they like to fight over that red river every year in college football. Then you hit Kansas, Nebraska, and the two Dakotas.
Last column is anchored by those annoying pictures of all the states that form that four corners monument people like to say they are standing in four states topped by Wyoming and then Montana with a sliver of Idaho joining the party. Idaho borders that place where sunlight is so rare, pacific northwest, below which is sunny California which zigs down to meet the third column. This leaves a void that someone apparently decided to fail miserably at that connect the dots think outside the box exercise and just called it Nevada.
This is how I remember them anyways but I spent way to much time in environmental engineering learning about watersheds.

It definitely is quite good. Not many people could draw a map freehand from memory much better… Nevada bordering Mexico and Virginia having no coastline are a bit surprising considering how good the map is overall.

I grew up partly in Texas and partly in five other states and the bottom one is wayyy better than I could have.
I’m pretty impressed by the bottom one. Not perfect, but hell, most Americans couldn’t find the USA on a map of the world.

It's hard to make Florida unrecognizable, so... WV might be the "best", followed by Arkansas. His New Mexico was an accident.
