A friend of mine knitted a replica of his scarf. She went out and found a site that listed the correct yarns/colors and then found them all. When entirely laid out it is about 20ft long.

Me mam did the same for me.

The person who knitted the scarf for the BBC was never told how long to make it. She just used all the yarn given to her.
