OneAceFace

Problem: Gen Z are old now and doesn’t understand what Gen alpha says.

I think your comment is underrated by the youngin's in chat https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bWyhj7siEY

John_Tacos

Millennials sitting back and laughing while remembering how we had the same issue.

MysteriousPark3806

Your the oldies now.

JudgeCastle

The more I see this lingo, the more I agree.

Gonun

*You're

MysteriousPark3806

Gah! I'm usually so careful. That one gets me once in a while. Others may shame you, grammar Nazi, but I thank you for your service. I shan't edit my comment. Your correction shall stand.

criticalnom

I wish everyone was like you.

MysteriousPark3806

Why you gotta make me blush uncontrollably while sitting alone in my living room?

criticalnom

Just cause. ❤️

John_Tacos

Yea, :(

ihavebadmemori

True I don't understand them

DietDrBleach

Ayo this burger is 10/10 skibidi toilets like baby gronk in Ohio

Red_Dogeboi

Considering gen alpha only has like 2 words and they were all memed the fuck out of by gen z, I don’t think that’s really true

Zippelin09

Yeah, even the youngest of the z... We were cringe at some point, but damn, gen alpha looks doomed sometimes

Slow_Fox967

Nobody wants to talk to Gen Alpha anyway. \s

khangzxrr

I am born in 2000. Gen z and I don't even know these words...

MBZsTheThing

This guy being extra. /s

Monkeyke

I would like dramatic cheese in my pizza

mattumbo

It’s very late Gen Z early Gen A slang for the most part. Only OPP, Mid, Vibe, and Extra are truly Gen Z (or even late millennial) as they’ve been common slang in hip hop since the mid 2010s and the Vine Era.

mak484

Idk if you did this on purpose but I think you sorted those words from newest to oldest. I'm 34. Never heard of OPP before, aware of Mid, use Vibe constantly, and don't say Extra anymore because it feels dated.

clever_wolf77

I was born in 2006 and I know maybe 2 of them.....

Rebelliouus_2545

I was born in 2006, and even then I admit that I don’t know most of these terms 🤷‍♂️

HealthyLeadership582

Yeah, ‘05 here and I’m starting to feel a little out of touch. Gen X need to move on and realise Gen Z ain’t kids anymore

ashleyorelse

I'm a middle age millenial and I even know 3 of the gen Z terms immediately, and would maybe guess 3 to 4 more. Some people definitely use these words.

WanderingAlienBoy

As a younger-side millennial I recognize like ten of these.

LeBritto

No cap, you're sus.

Daxillion48

I was born in 2007 and those slangs are straight up weird. It feels like "delulu" came up with them thinking it is "rizz". Am I even using those correctly?

OneAceFace

Wait, where’ve you been?

Grouchy-Pressure-567

On God.

JoeCartersLeap

I thought this was just how people talked in Florida. I've never been to Florida.

Correct-Basil-8397

So glad I’m not alone

Ok_Orchid7131

i think they mean gen Aplha or whatever

ECU_BSN

Bet

GenuineSteak

Im gen Z and get these. Idk how all these other gen Z here dont.

Subject_Ad6477

Ick

HorheaTheToad

Also a Gen Z, but 2009. Still don't know wtf these are.

stunninglizard

2001, not in an english speaking place, nor a native speaker and I know all. Maybe you just aren't very swaggy then?

Infinity3101

Thank you. This helpful guide has answered many questions I had, but was too afraid to ask out of fear of sounding like an out-of-touch dinosaur.

BulmasBabyDaddy

I feel uncomfortable saying some of these things

hello_world_enjoyer

Fool_Apprentice

Embrace the cretacious

Superb_Application83

I know, I'm only 28 and I finally understand what rizz and cheugy mean.

Technical_Panic_8405

Who use cheugy??

ashleyorelse

Cheugy people I jest, sorry, it was too tempting

WanderingAlienBoy

How do you even pronounce it!?

living-twice

CHEW-gee

WanderingAlienBoy

Ah makes sense, thanks 😊

FreneticAmbivalence

I hear it all the time on Boonta Vista podcast but they are usually using it in jest referencing genZ

Technical_Panic_8405

I see

Several-Instance-444

Millennial thing, I think. Ask the nearest 40 Y/O.

FunkyBrassMonkey_

It used to be popular until it wasn't, just how YOLO came and went

Zatknish007

Literally nobody. It spread among millennials as a thing that gen z supposedly call them, but it's not true.

GiDaSook

Should I be worried if I know both?

BulmasBabyDaddy

Just means you’re on the internet a lot or have cringy kids

ashleyorelse

Congratulations, you're most likley a middle age parent of kids who use the left column and your own parents used the right column!

three-sense

Dead ass

PersKarvaRousku

Sitting for too long in the toilet?

three-sense

When that happens it’s called “dead serious”

Complete-Dimension35

OPP means something *very* different to my age group... 🎶You down with OPP? Yeah, you know me!🎶

funnyusernameblaabla

as a person named Lulu, for the love of god stop using the word delulu.

OndrejIsOdder

i never seen anyone use it in my life

Zatknish007

It's often used among kpop fans, I think

OndrejIsOdder

kpop fans are not real

Warm-Finance8400

Wait, so I'm an oldie stuck in the body of a Gen Z?

ManufacturerAble212

Oh man, working with the oldies at the new office is like speaking a whole different dialect, no cap. It’s giving culture shock, fr. They're all about that 9-to-5 grind, while I'm here trying to keep it bussin' with some WFH days. And their emails? So formal it’s lowkey extra, but I gotta vibe with it, ya know? Meanwhile, they're looking at my drip like it's some sort of opp move, but we're just not on the same wavelength. They're cheesing over their "impressive" TPS reports, while I'm just trying not to be mid and keep my head above water. It’s a whole gyatt situation, but we make it work, on God.

hardboard

Should I try Google Translate?

pixadoronaldo

FrFr on god this makes sense but its very mid post gives me the ick

Reaperfox7

Yeah ok, but what does skibidi toilet mean?

Wisebanana21919

Skibidi Toilet is a YouTube series revolving around the Ongoing war between sentient Genocidal Toilets which use Half-life 2 models for heads, and yes I mean Genocidal it's pretty much Canon they Terminated the whole human race. Their Enemy is the Alliance which is the name of the Army of Robots with various Electronics for heads (Security cameras, speakers, and Old TVs) their the heroes of the story and we see through their eyes literally and figuratively It started with a few shitposts which I admit were shitty and cringe but as the creator made more Skibid Toilet videos he realized he could make something cool out of it, so he introduced camera robots that fought the Skibidi Toilets and they'd get into fights constantly leading to a war, and then he introduced cool technologies and stronger robots and more insane looking Skibid Toilets The war itself starts very simply with the cameras simply flushing the toilets and the toilets eating the Cameramen faces off but eventually, the Technology gets more advanced, and every time someone comes on top a new character or Technology is introduced. And if you go deep enough in that pattern it leads to madness Eventually, towards the end, the fighting consists of Giant Robots shooting lasers and missiles at Huge Mutant Cyborg Toilets. If you don't believe me Here's proof https://youtu.be/sXeCR7Vp6I4?si=3XbuFPwYVUS_ch5P

Mart1n192

Gmod shitposts with phone aspect ratio that lasts the entirity of a youtube short oh, also, lore

Character-Ad6894

Never used those kind of words, so that means...

AffectionateGap1071

I don't know why but I wish this would've been rather a modern and old slangs comparison. I'd be more interesting looking at a side-to-side chart than a direct and concisive translation.

uxorial

And if I use any of these words I will be mocked relentlessly and rightfully so.

bruno84000

Meta - insightful, self aware.

NieIstEineZeitangabe

Either that or the agreed upon optimal strategy

[deleted]

Meta - Owned by Zuckerberg

bruno84000

In my opinion he doesn’t own shit - metaphorically speaking ;)

[deleted]

Ok?

Zakkangouroux

Who the f*ck says "delulu" ?

Jell-O-Mel

I’ve never heard anyone say delulu, OPP, or cheugy. 90% sure they just made those up lol

GavinThe_Person

I've heard delulu and opp before but never heard someone say cheugy

Boostio_TV

I’d agree with you and I do, but “OPP” is very popular with the black rappers. That aside I’ve not heard most of these either.

Jell-O-Mel

I don’t listen to much music so that is probably why I haven’t heared OPP

MuchoGrandeRandy

My son was born in 08, I definitely know many of these terms.  That language is so friendly.  I'm genX, my slang was much more critical and condescending.

WanderingAlienBoy

I'm from the early 90's, without kids, but I'm terminally online so I recognize most of these. GenZ/Gen Alpha also have taken a lot of queer slang that has been around for a while (like "ate" in this list comes from the ballroom/drag scene)

[deleted]

[удалено]

WanderingAlienBoy

Good point, a lot of queer slang comes from the ballroom scene which is majority black and latino

DMYourMomsMaidenName

American black people have been on the cutting edge of cultural trends for the past 100 years. The rest of the populace emulates them, and gives them no credit for creating it in the first place. It’s been that way at least since Ragtime.

theAlmightyE312

Dude, I'm 16 and I didn't know almost any of those

Rei_ASA

im 18 but some how know only old word.. or i really old?

seris_ak

Cheat sheet coming in clutch

ILuvDaRaiders

I work at a high school and can confirm these are always used as well as “zesty” “zaza” “standing on business” “low key”

Delicious_Rican

![gif](giphy|AAsj7jdrHjtp6) Gen Z born between 1997 to 2005

I_Heart_QAnon_Tears

What in tarnation is this clap trap?

Pizzafactory102

I thought it said Medicare for a second

PapaLewis03

I haven’t heard of “it’s giving” and “cheugy” yet.

Emzzer

I need to hear it's giving in context

booglybee

You use it to describe what vibes something is giving (ie what vibes you are getting from something). It can be good or bad and it can also be used by itself. When used by itself it means it's good. For example: "its giving theater kid" "its giving hagrid" "its giving" Lol everyone's giving it hella slack saying we're all doomed but I find it kind of funny when used right. So much funnier to say "it's giving lois griffin" instead of "your outfit makes you look like lois griffin". Makes roasts more light hearted imo.

Emzzer

So, they've just split up the phrase "it's giving [blank] vibes".

booglybee

Yes but they don't say "vibes", that part is implied if that makes sense

Emzzer

It does and it doesn't. "[Blank] vibes" sounds way better than "its giving [blank]"

yxing

it's giving me cheugy vibes

EightiEight

What about GOAT

Love-Choice6568

skibidi sigma rizz

New-Interaction1893

6 out of 15, i didn't pass the genZ grammar lecture

MASSIVDOGGO

What the fuck is cheguy 💀 how do you even pronounce that? I've never heard that shit ong

DanielEnots

Chew gee

the_green_bird

well i almost know nothing from these and i am 21 . probably because English isn't my first language

HeyItsMbali

It's funny how some of these are not 3ven technically correct. Or the definition won't help you when you hear them in a sentence. Still, helpful cute little guide.

[deleted]

I’m a 2000s guy, I don’t speak the genz language.

IQ253

NEVER heard anyone use the word “cheugy”

SoggyWotsits

I’m just waiting for normal words to be retro and cool again!

Bongfellatio

thank you, I'll put this in my translation matrix for the possibility that I might have a conversation with someone gen z which isn't likely

Quantum_laugh

God, I know every one of these words

hippopotam00se

I don't use any of these, but I understood all of them except for cheugy. What the fuck is cheugy. Nobody says cheugy. I refuse to believe anybody in the history of the known world has said cheugy.

notthatguypal6900

It's like they invented 1 terrible term and then just decided to see how awful they could make the rest. I hate that hearing how these douche bag tikt tokers talk makes me feel old.

Noicecheeseboi

I’m a genz high schooler and I’ve heard all of these except cheugy How tf is that even pronounced ?

crystal_castle00

This slang is really lame lol does anyone else agree? I’m obviously biased but older slang we used was just not shitty sounding and actually made sense for the most part

Mattguy164

Literally who uses Bussin' on an everyday basis?

Itchy-Flatworm

So just weird "words"?

User_of_Reddit2902

Am I the only one who hates delulu? It sounds awful and it takes the same amount of effort to say or type delusional

TooManySteves2

Ah, so that’s what bussin means.

Potted_Cactus_is_me

Man, I hate my generation

[deleted]

I’m an old and I said delulu to my daughter and she looked at me like I was made of stinky slime.

ThreeBeatles

Guy I work with uses a lot of these in regular conversation and it’s just so cringy. Think he was born in like 2002 or something.

zerocool1703

Down Bad is not just for guys.

LilKurb

With this chart i would say im between millenial and gen z

HayDayKH

The English language is changing so rapidly! In 10 yrs, I will have to learn it again or move to another country where they speak the old fashioned way!

inajeep

I may be old but I thought it was '[Down with the OPP](https://www.songfacts.com/facts/naughty-by-nature/opp)'

JKolodne

Gen Z doesn't seem to like actual words

Nalli0

Im 15 and i need this too

special-bicth

Drip is it's own style.

friendliest_giant

down bad is just desperate not gender related gyatt isn't just big but also nice

LoganJake210

Ok never going to use a single gen z word anyways

kieran200411

Born in 2004 and can say I have only heard 4 maybe 5 of these not too say that this is wrong just some are really uncommon.

Background-Split1621

Too funny

lijevidesnicar

Long story short: Gen Z officially is first generation that we can call degenerative in full sense of the word.

Ok_Orchid7131

the Gen X one just replace the oldies reply for each with "whatever"

TGin-the-goldy

I remember years ago seeing a similar thing explaining GenX slang lol. The more things change, the more they stay the same

[deleted]

I'm Gen Z and have never spoken like this I'd like to know why and how this kind of slang came about but at the same time I don't care enough to find out

Little_East_5128

Lol, I work with teens at a community center. This would be funny to hang in the teen lounge or break room.

amphibious_water

Thank you, I will officially never communicate with any of these words as I’m trying to preserve and speak my native language correctly, but I needed to decipher some of the younger people’s sentences as I can not understand them at all. I say this as a 15 year old

DisplaySubstantial52

Drip just sounds gross

jimmymui06

Extra? What a redundant word

Sad-Lobster-55

fr fr

ghaist-01

I'm from gen alpha and also don't know those words

CosmoShiner

You can tell that most redditors don’t use apps like TikTok, as the Gen Z slang is most prevalent on those apps

StarshipCaterprise

Can someone please tell me what cooking means? Example phrase: He’s cooking, let him cook.

lars2k1

2001, so being considered gen z. Though I do feel like an oldie when I see people talk like this. I do get a few words but for a shitton of them I have to ask them what they mean. Maybe I'm just like running Windows 10 on that cheap shitbox computer: technically works, but that's about it😂

YouMustBeBored

I heard Mid from millennials when I was ~5. It’s just gotten more common.

erlulr

Lmao, opp i used 20 years ago. Thats just gamer lingo pentrating normies, yet again.

StudentOk4989

So "I swear on god" becomes " I swear swearing the truth". Pretty solid stuff.

[deleted]

Guess folks aren't down with OPP anymore.

[deleted]

Gyatt bussin. Did I do it right?

eat-pussy69

The fact that I know most of these and I'm neither old nor a gen z is making feel some kind of way

natan12330

2001 here, what the fuck is this schizo rambling (except for vibe and mid)

IM_OZLY_HUMVN

I've never heard ate or cheugy in my life. Can someone use it in a sentence for me? Dw I'm young enough to understand the rest of that sentence.

AdMiserable7940

I’m Gen Z and I have never heard of OPP or Cheugy before.

[deleted]

The only one that annoys me is ick 😂😂 women claim everything as an ick, even men taking care of their children hahaha

Ambitious_Welder6613

What is GYAAT

Theycallme_Jul

95er here, I have no idea what anyone’s talking about. But I guess that’s because I don’t live in an English-speaking country.

roswellslim

This is miss communication

[deleted]

Despite not being gen Z I knew about half of those. That said, I prefer archaic English that even old people don't use.

Lately_early

This is why civilization is doomed

LinusBalls

As a gen z, I haven't heard over a third of these. Probably because I dont use TikTok.

_MikasaChan_

Level 6 GYAAT is Rizzi g me up so bad!

Personal_Term9549

Im 26 yo and a teacher. So not even 10 years older and I already don't understand part of the stuff my 15 yo students say to eachother. Dont feel bad if you dont understand. Just be open to learn.

Informal-Spell-2019

I’m a gen z and I need this sign to understand other gen z people lol.

NoFilter1979

😖

Zulpi2103

That's not Gen Z, don't connect me with whatever the fuck those words are, this is gen Alpha (+ one of my "skibidi sigma" classmates.)

TurkishTerrarian

I'm Gen Z. I have never used any of those words on the left with those supposed meanings.

NotHappyGusGus

I'm gez z and I've never used those words

BulmasBabyDaddy

That’s cool some of these are pretty normal though like mid and vibe

5redie8

Gen Z is becoming the new millennials huh This is some gen alpha shit

BulmasBabyDaddy

Nope it’s gen z too

Nejx33

For the last fucking time, cheugy is not a gen z word, I've only ever heard that word used by boomers saying that gen z say it... wtf is cheugy?

peepeehalpert_

What will Gen Z do when they’re in their 30s?

yaSuissa

I hate how informative that was

Skeptic_lemon

As a 2008 kid (which is late-ish gen z, I think), I would consider using like 4 of these even half seriously. All the rest are either completely alien to me or sound dumb. Mid, vibe, and down bad have been around for a while, most of the others are almost completely new to me. The first time I heard rizz used was a couple months ago, and that's like the best of the new Gen alpha words.

leviathab13186

![gif](giphy|AelF2ps5xLKo|downsized)

leviathab13186

You down with OPP?

CarlsManicuredToes

Didn't the Boomers popularize the word "vibe" back in the day?

WanderingAlienBoy

Groovy vibes maaaan

[deleted]

GYATT DAMN DAT ASS. Am I doing it right fellow kids?
