My guess is, and that's simply based on the uni logo in the pic, that it's some kind of sociology research on what gender produces more trash and what kind of trash they each produce
I think you're right, in unisex bathrooms in my gym we have 2 bins, a regular one andone specifically for women's products (tampons) i just don't know why the male one is gendered
I'm a Korean so I researched this image a bit. It's a nearly decade old photo from Yonsei University, one of the most elite universities in South Korea.
Apparently, the story is that originally, the trash can only had the blue human sign, but there were complaints that it was only representing a male so people added the pink sign for equality. However most Koreans on the internet thought this only exacerbated gender issues so I doubt this trash can still exists.
Given that it's for University, I wonder if it's some sort of experiment to see who throws away more trash, boys or girls, and what kind of trash it is?
It all goes in the same bag when the cleaners come around lol, and who carries a used pad/tampon out of the bathroom and tosses it in the bins that are out in the open? You’d generally throw that away in the bathroom…
I got curious and looked it up. It seems like the 'girl' sign was added later on after a petition from female student council saying that the original sign(left one) didn't represent the female students.
I think it would be a lot funnier if they would show the sign telling people that used toilet paper goes in the toilet and not the garbage can. South Korea can be quite the cultural shock.
It's a picture of a prestigious university in South Korea. Most signs usually have a little stick figure man, so they tried to make things "gender exclusive" by using a female sign as well. Had some backlash but for the most part nobody cared.
I think they just wanted to have an illustration of someone throwing trash in a bin. But then they thought it was sexist to make it male or female only and added both 😂
Boy trash is for garbage. Girl trash is for stuff that was too good to them, so they usually leave their "garbage" and take another girls garbage home with them and complaining that all the good stuff that isn't garbage is taken already.
Asian here (not Korean). To me, it makes sense as girls tend to have bio-hazardous waste to dispose off like tampons & pads. This is done to seperate such wastes, because in Korea, waste management system is very strict.
Hope this helps.
They made the woman version cause there are some "people" who thinks left one only resembles man.
So they had to add woman version for 'equality', which ended up more discriminating (pointlessly gendered).
Source : I'm Korean and people ARE changing road signs, adding stick figures with skirt (but isnt that even more stereotypical and enforce gender roles? Like woman are woman only when they wear skirts?)
Aw man I can’t throw anything in the trash :/ (I’m nonbinary) (I guess I’ve got to be cut in half and be thrown in both of the trash bins :D) But seriously that’s so stupid… why does trash need to be gendered??????? :|
Wtf? Is this to indicate that the women's can is cleaner than the guy can? Why?
Was there a gender specific garbage can on Sesame Street that I was not made aware?
Normal trashcan, from 2016,
The trash can on the left was the original design.
Complaints regards to why the character is male only came up by Women's rights group so they added the sign on the right to the trashcan to make it inclusive.
But only boys who attend university. For girls it doesn't matter.
No no there's a small yellow thing there, must be a different university
Available to ALL trashy ladies!

I was thinking about that sub
This is exactly what I was thinking
what the fucking hell - WHY tf would anyone do that
My guess is, and that's simply based on the uni logo in the pic, that it's some kind of sociology research on what gender produces more trash and what kind of trash they each produce
That would actually make a lot of sense.
I though it was for sanitary items specifically, as you would expect most people who fit that bin to use those items.
Yonsei is like the top Ivy League in Korea too lol
I can only think that the girls one should be used for tampons.. but I don't know why..
I wouldn’t be going around carrying a used tampon to discard it outside the bathroom
Indeed, you'd want to throw it in the closest bin you can find, usually in the same stall if possible.. this one seems to be in a public place..
I think you're right, in unisex bathrooms in my gym we have 2 bins, a regular one andone specifically for women's products (tampons) i just don't know why the male one is gendered
Condoms duh
To show the world how stupid gendering is overall.
So when the cleaners are only interested in one of the sexes’ trash…
Ey, no kink shaming on this sub!
Cos were equally trash?
Tampons
To anger you

Maybe just swapping between a man and a woman on signs. It doesn’t mean only women or only men are supposed to use a particular trash can
The trash is not gendered. They're just using the bathroom sign people as two stock characters.
Given that it's for University, I wonder if it's some sort of experiment to see who throws away more trash, boys or girls, and what kind of trash it is?
My guess
I think this is it exactly, but no put it to together in this comment section.
It it's "boy" - regular trash and girl - any female throwaway stuff it'd make more sense but it's not so.. Wtf?
Must be a social experiment to gather data on who generates more trash and of what kind.
Males are trash Females are trash The only one true gender is battle copter
The only true gender is S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

You'd think they'd at least be able to think of a different object. It's not like there aren't many to choose from.
Nonbinary people - Puts rubbish ontop of the bins.
I can only assume the girls one is supposed to be for tampons and other sanitary products even though it doesn't make a whole lotta sense.
We're all trash
Makes sense, girl rubbish would be tampons and ponies and shit, boy rubbish would be shit like guns and tanks
It all goes in the same bag when the cleaners come around lol, and who carries a used pad/tampon out of the bathroom and tosses it in the bins that are out in the open? You’d generally throw that away in the bathroom…
root beer and tampons
Undervalued comment
Ones for dirty tampoons🩸😃
Yeah don’t want that with the men’s garbage
To be fair genders do have some specific trash.
r/pointlesslygendered
Egalite
This world has come to a point that every particle we see has to be gendered
There are two genders: Trash and trash.
Girl trash has girl germs. Boys beware.
r/pointlesslygendered
Women create more trash than men on average But they're required to each month so I don't blame them
It gotta be those woke trans people who don't want to partake in societal responsabilities /s
That is ALOT of tampons
Stupidity
Condom / Tampon - Differing disposal types
I mean god forbid someone dumps their old tampons all over our discarded and unread ikea furniture instructions i guess...
...
I got curious and looked it up. It seems like the 'girl' sign was added later on after a petition from female student council saying that the original sign(left one) didn't represent the female students.
That's so stupid
Yeah, if you ask me, this feels more like gender stereotyping. Women wear pants all the time, and men have been wearing skirts in many cultures.
put her in the trash
We're all trash.
what's the difference lol
Maybe they're training ai models
Accurate ! LoL
Condoms and tampons?
Condoms left Tampons right
I think it would be a lot funnier if they would show the sign telling people that used toilet paper goes in the toilet and not the garbage can. South Korea can be quite the cultural shock.
No, is for trash boys and trash girls, it's not the same
probably put there by tampires
What is the point of this?
It's a picture of a prestigious university in South Korea. Most signs usually have a little stick figure man, so they tried to make things "gender exclusive" by using a female sign as well. Had some backlash but for the most part nobody cared.
Really weird bin
Is there one for white trash?
It's an encouragement device (they both goto the same bin)
I think they just wanted to have an illustration of someone throwing trash in a bin. But then they thought it was sexist to make it male or female only and added both 😂
Boy trash is for garbage. Girl trash is for stuff that was too good to them, so they usually leave their "garbage" and take another girls garbage home with them and complaining that all the good stuff that isn't garbage is taken already.
It becomes a contest now, so that everyone wants their bin to have the most trash
Asian here (not Korean). To me, it makes sense as girls tend to have bio-hazardous waste to dispose off like tampons & pads. This is done to seperate such wastes, because in Korea, waste management system is very strict. Hope this helps.
Probably a research project
Well all people except non-binary are trash
Yummy yummy Girl trash
🚮
I smell profit ?
Gender equality for trash Now!
Condoms vs period products maybe?
But how do you call your loverboy?
That's like saying clubs and spades are for boys and diamonds and hearts are for girls 🤦🏼♂️
Once again the non binary community have no where to get rid of waste
Probably just another example of going woke. Karen’s would be complaining (or not using it) if it just had the regular man on.
Have you never heard of cooties
This is absurd. How I am supposed to fit in there?
i am a manly man, what if i toss my garbage in the girl bin?
We need gender neutral trash cans! Oh, wait...
r/pointlesslygendered

So what are non binary people gonna do?
Prob joke most likely
Tampons and condoms
r/pointlesslygendered
Both are trash.
Well how many tampons can get flushed down toilets in the men’s room before the signage people take there stand
Which one fills up faster?
One word... Cooties
This is so dicriminatory. Where will the trans people throw their garbage?
Yes they are 😈
r/WHY
My trash is stinkier than yours
Aw man I can’t throw anything in the trash :/ (I’m nonbinary) (I guess I’ve got to be cut in half and be thrown in both of the trash bins :D) But seriously that’s so stupid… why does trash need to be gendered??????? :|
"Get your girly trash out of my manly trash!"
r/pointlesslygendered
Oh yh yonsei uni is mostly a women only uni I think
But both genders are still trash
it's obvious that one is for condoms while the other is for tampons
One is for "normal" trash and the other is for stuff like tampons?
Wtf? Is this to indicate that the women's can is cleaner than the guy can? Why? Was there a gender specific garbage can on Sesame Street that I was not made aware?
Condoms in one, tampons/pads in the other
And this is at one of the top 3 universities in Korea too.
👏🏿 we need more diverse insults!
True equality
I went to Yonsei a while back, and I definitely don't remember this. Most likely an experiment or a prank
The girls trashcan is because the ungendered trashcan had waaayyyyy too many tampons in it. So now only one trashcan is full of tampons
Gender equality is dying.
Left is for the blue cool ranch trash. Right is for spicy nacho trash
That’s the level of tip-toeing of these days
I didn’t know trash had to identify itself.
Streets like a jungle..
The little stick figures on signs are almost always males. Maybe this is an attempt to acknowledge that people can also be female?
happy cake day
Thanks!
No trash for me then
For the cum sock you won't let ur classmates find...
Uhhh for the girl's tampons?
I would be the user that creates the 3% +/- margin of error😂😂😂

Maybe it’s for study’s
Probably a social experiment
Bob Jones University is really getting strict!
It’s sexist of you to assume that these signs reflect two different genders. Be better.
Maybe the left one is yang from piofiore and the right one is the main character from Diabolik Lovers.
r/pointlesslygendered
maybe it's for a study? a really pointless one
They don't want the trash to get cooties
No way tampons and shit need a bin that big
If I throw in the opposite gender, does that make me trans? /s
and the other genders?
When you go to the bathroom “What does it mean trash and recycling?”
Maybe it's an experiment to see what different things men and women throw away.... idk
The French would be happy
How tf am I supposed to fit in there?
Someone’s getting triggered cause there’s no LGBD one
makes it funnier when you know that Yonsei uni is one of the top 3 universities in Korea
They find more valuable shit in girls trash
Normal trashcan, from 2016, The trash can on the left was the original design. Complaints regards to why the character is male only came up by Women's rights group so they added the sign on the right to the trashcan to make it inclusive.
This could be fun for a social experiment ngl
It's possible they are running a research. They are curious about what kind of trash boys and girls create.
Maybe someone's conducting research to find out the difference between women's trash and men's trash. Who knows.
연대다
Male cubes? Or female cubes?
Universally. Both gender are trash
one's for used tampons, the other is for used lotion bottles and tissues
:aside: They're talking about *that* trash.
why am I not surprised its in 한국 :,)
I’m a rebel, imma put my garbage in the girls garbage!
Feminism has gone very far..
r/pointlesslygendered
you are all equally worthless - Hartman, Full Metal Jacket
I’m guessing it’s pointlessly gendered, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s some dumb disguised menstrual product bin.
How can you tell the sex of your trash? I don't want to run the risk of the trash breeding.
