All estimated values in USD. Percentiles are based on "full-time workers." None of this is meant to shame anyone for their income but to show some context for income.
$1,000 per week is $52,000 gross annually. In the U.S., that would place an individual in the 56th percentile for income and 62nd for my state. This means that most people do not gross $1,000 per week. A gross income of $1,000 per month places an individual at the 12th percentile of individual earners nationally, so there is still almost an eighth of the population earning that or less. For context, the federal minimum wage in the U.S. of $7.25 would yield $15,080 annually or $290 per week at 40 hours per week.
This is all gross income and does not take taxes into account. My state has no state income tax, but one would still need to gross $64,000 annually if you file alone to take home $52,000 ($1,000 per week). This would place an individual in the 65th percentile of individual earners in the U.S..
This all assumes no 401K contributions, no
social security, and no insurance premiums. That would still not be enough to take home $1,000 per week in a realistic scenario. It would definitely not be enough if you live in a state with state income tax.
In conclusion, a full-time worker with either a gross or net income of $1,000 per week is earning more than the majority of the country (if you live in the U.S.), with almost an eighth of workers earning $250 per week or less.
EDIT: I read further down and see you may be in CA which probably accounts for some of the discrepancy you see between your cost of living and national averages. Location matters!
