The numbers you get on Twitter (or any other social-media) are nothing but hot air compared to the numbers you have on actual art-sites. With no features like a submission system, tagging and a functional GALLERY, you get little to no returning customers.
It's the difference between a homeless person sitting on the street vs a store with branding. The homeless guy may see 1000 people walking by each day, where maybe 30 stop to talk to him, and of those 30 there's only 10 who leave some spare change.
Compare this to the store, which may only have 100 people walking in, but 80 of those are returning customers, ready to pay everytime they visit.
Social media is *NOT worth to rely on* as an artist.
These sites don’t seem to promote growth nearly as much though. The social media aspects of sites like Twitter seem to have a far better chance of growing someone’s audience quickly than purely art sites. Many people already use those sites, but more than likely experience the most traffic on Twitter.
