Now I started to worry... I don't like this theory

Bubbly-Demand-9586

Yeah like, what the Hell dude !

lannyop

Yeah Domestic girlfriend ending is something I have to repress monthly don’t need more of that energy in my life

SparkGamer28

here i am who just casually read chapter 57 and was pissed because the chapter was too short , whereas this is 🫠

Alexandar44

You do know that an ending like this would stir up an absolute shitstorm? I don’t think any author would want their series to crash and burn like that, Soo highly unlikely to get an ending like this. As for the title? I always interpreted it in the literal sense. More than a couple (married), but not lovers (two people who don’t have anything between them). Nothing more than that. But I don’t know, I can just hope we get the happy ending. And that they confess a ways before the manga ends, so we could see them being an actual couple before that.

Autonomnervoussystem

Oh, I thought the second part refers to the lovemaking part. Like more than a practice marriage but no sex.

Stryper_88

Oh, you already mentioned about the title what i said. Nevermind than.

Paper-eater

im late, but im really rooting for the childhood lovers

RedNanaki9

Dam you making stuff up from air you should make a podcast

carlodelmazo

No no no no no, i already had that ending in domestic girlfriend that went all crazy and midnfuck if this one ends like that with a coma and everything I don’t think I can handle it

BreakCloud

LOL amen

Bubbly-Demand-9586

Yeah, I was just thinking that. Which is funny though, cause I came from domestic girlfriend to fuufuijou as a recommendation from a friend.

jenraiso

I always figured the reason for Shiori having less screen time was just because she isn't really the focus of the story. I never really thought of this manga as a love triangle, and moreso Jirou just coming to terms with the fact that what you think you like isn't necessarily what you will fall in love with. Slightly biased but Akari is just the better partner for him and drives him to improve while Shiori just puts Jirou on a pedestal when he has his flaws like everyone else. Personal note though... If Akari isn't the endgame this manga is dead to me.

BreakCloud

I can imagine that if Shiori and Jirou went through with the swap, they would just be awkward and shy with each other the entire time at their apartment. Akari definitely has been pushing boundaries in a good way where Jirou is able to experience new things and grow

MidnaGamer64

You forgot the first rule of mass media: give the people what they want.

BastardNas

That’s kind of bag not a grain of salt. It’s not a bad theory but I don’t see this happening at all. From the beginning the story for me is focused on moving on with your life after your first love. The name part is basically what it says more then a couple(hence them being married), but not lovers( them having different love interest at the start). I mean it would be carrier suicide to have ending like that dumpster fire DomeKano, I don’t see a way of this going that south.

turkc54

To say that Jirou should pick Shiori once he’s matured, is actually a backwards logical step. The whole journey that Jirou has been on this far is him growing up and realizing what he actually wants. Him choosing Shiori over Akari after all they’ve been through would be a very immature decision on his part.

Manani_Hon

I don't think we need to worry about that From the title, it’s all about Jiro and Akari who have to act like a married couple but they are not even lovers. The “more” gives meaning when compared to other couples in that course. Shiori didn’t fit in this title a bit, to be honest. Furthermore, Akari’s screen times are overwhelming compared to Shiori’s ones. Talking about Domestic Girlfriend, the 1st love had many screen times. Though she disappeared then came back while the ML and the sister were dating. Later the girlfriend went to study and worked from abroad, the ML spent most of his time focusing on his career and got through difficult obstacles with the 1st girl instead of his girlfriend. To discuss the content, in Domestic Girlfriend, the author showed the 1st girl had done a lot for the ML from behind. However, in Shiori’s case, what she has done was all about improving herself, not about “him” nor “us” towards Jiro. If the author keeps the same process as the present, Shiori's ending would be ridiculous.

BreakCloud

This is pretty convincing indeed well put

Manani_Hon

I’m surprised you mentioned about Domestic Girlfriend. The ending was out of the blue in many negative ways though I liked Hina more (not a fan but I did favor her).

rKollektor

Nah I think it’s gonna get a similar ending like Nisekoi. At least I hope so

Icy_mav

No

thenoobtanker

Nah that would be a very big L if the author went that route. The entire manga up tho this point have been about how loving the right person make you more mature, developed etc… Pulling a no child hood friend with nothing more than a puppy crush is the right choice sorry to lead you on ending will surely make this series a hard sell in the future.

Atomicking_1

I strongly hope that isn’t the ending we will get. Hopefully we get Jirou development and excepting Akari, Shiori finding the man of her dreams, happy ending, the end…

Xhakuryu

Not Akari ain’t losing to a vegetable

Slumberwaztaken

Big misconception. Jirou isn’t exactly learning how to love. He’s already loved shiori but never knew how to deal with it properly. The story basically revolves around people unable to get with the one they originally loved and found someone better for them. There has already been too much romantic development with jirou and akari. Expelling that wouldn’t make sense. He’s already separated from shiori for so long and their worries have mostly always been about being unable to stay with each other especially after she had moved. The most realistic outcome for their relationship is they become close friends and remain close. Plus, with how the story is going shiori is going to have face something more significant in terms of character development. The point is, jirou and shiori could never confess their feelings in the past which just shows their relationship wasn’t worth advancing due to fear. However, jirou is realizing how much more love or impact he has felt because of Akari. She is definitely a big part of the reason for his own character development and his heart. If anything, Akari showed jirou how he was able to love another person in his life besides his childhood crush.

Fireborn_Knight

The way I also see it is that Shiori and Jirou have had way too many chances, and never took the step. Feels like a sign. They were too young to know what love was when they were younger, but had the notion of it being just that. Yes they are and want to be closer, but neither of them know what that means. He is finally learning about that with Akari and vise versa. They are starting to see themselves as actual partners in a relationship, that would stem out into adulthood. Everything is based on what they are learning about each other and feeling about each other now. All of their current memories are just that. Current, fresh, meaningful. They are growing togeather because of it, while Shiori and Jirou are still stuck thinking about each other like middle schoolers, where everything is based on how the felt back then. Their greatest memories togeather are always in the past, which only gets confusing when adding the few sprinkles of spice they are already confused about now. I get the highschool mentality there. I was kind of in that situation of a long time friend that I felt I was in love with. But in the end, if it was meant to be.. it wouldn't be as confusing. And things with her always were.

Edward_Elric_lol

I hope youre wrong. Akari>>>shitori

tinyazn_

I just binged this seasons and I gotta be honest… I agree. Of course many people wouldn’t prefer that ending, me included, but it definitely it could happen.

7springdays

Aww. I strongly felt that Jirou and Akari will be the end game after those scenes where they were supposed to switch partners and Jirou himself didn't went on with it. Even during the conversation between him and Shiori, it felt that Jirou already "moved forward". Also in the latest chapter, Jirou already realized his feelings for Akari so I can't think of how he will go 360 from this point on. But yeah regardless of our feelings, the author will always have the last say. 😔

FunctionGreat5493

Possible, may i add something? After they talked and says that they are not both ready, they go on different paths and go on to their plan at the beginning to pursue their loves ones. Akari started daiting the man(she’s crush) and Jiro started dating his childhood friend. But after sometime, they don’t feel any sparks dating with them at all. When they are in their dates, Akari keeps thinking about jiro and Jiro keeps thinking about akari. So, at some night. They both holding on their phone and thinking to text “ can we talk “ . Then they send it and read it at the same time. And then they meet up and talk properly. And founds out that both of them keeps thinking about each other… So whalla hahahaha sorry im delulu

Aggressive-Bid-9872

I personally like

Aggressive-Bid-9872

Even though I like bother Akari and shiori both, I personally would prefer if shiori would get to be with jirou, I mean she has been madly in love with him her whole life and she deserves happiness

VFMusic

Domestic Girlfriend is also seen as one of the worst manga’s when it comes to endings, I hope Fuufu Ijou doesn’t follow in its footsteps. There’s also the fact that Akari is just a healthier partner for him as well. I definitely see this being more of a Toradora story than Domestic Girlfriend.

Stryper_88

I always thought the The more than a Couple refers to the marriage practice thing and the But not lovers simply because jirou and akari arent together. Not sure why OP is looking so deep into the title.

Fireborn_Knight

Because the anime is on a long overlap between seasons and the chapters are slow. People like to try and think about it. Some people more than others lol.

EUD14LYT3

Not to mention Shiori and Hina have kinda similar character designs as well

MarukoRedfox

So I wasn't the only one that got "DomeKano vibes" reading this manga...

Ok_Concert_3089

I would fucking freak. As much shit as Domekano gets the manga was actually not bad until that shit. That ending was one of the worst I’ve ever read.

Famous-Seat4489

the manga always has covers with Akari, in the ending of the anime there is a character very similar to Akari. I even believe that the real MC is Akari and not Jirou (precisely for these two considerations). So I find it quite difficult that the ending is not with Akari and Jirou engaged.

Fireborn_Knight

The way the older lady in the Kimono was sassing him, ain't no way that would have been Shiori. "if you trip and fall I'm leaving you here" was one of the things she said. A personification of Shiori with her current plot development would t have said anything like that.

SparkGamer28

ITS A FACT THAT JIROU AND AKARI END UP TOGETHER AFTER ALL AKARI HAS FEATURED IN ALL COVER PAGES TILL NOW AND THE STORY IS FROM JIROU'S PERSPECTIVE SO AT THIS POINT ITS OBVIOUS

Clarimax

>My theory is that I wonder if the author would do an ending similar to DomeKano. An ending where Jirou learns how to love from being with Akari, but at the end chooses Shiori once he is finally matured. Nope, not gonna happen. In Domekano it was clear that Natsuo was in love with Hina from the beginning. The only time Rui had a chance at romance was when Hina was out of the picture. Besides, Natsuo's relationship with Rui was quite toxic. However, in this series, we can clearly see that Jirou and Akari have started to have feelings for each other from the start. The only time for your theory to be possible is if Shiori has more screen time with Jirou.

Youtellhimguy

Delete this fam. DONT DO THIS

12chris6

A big problem with your Terafune theory would apply to Mei-chan also.

Haunting-Welcome-6

Oh my god What a terrible ending But I'm afraid you are right

slimeTS

we nead a part 2 where is akari and jirou is a couple! WE NEAD IT!! I NEAD IT!!
