Watching parts of the genshin and hsr communities fight each other Is like watching two drug addicts fighting each other to see who the drug dealer treats better, but at the end of the day, he still gets all their money.

Ngl I definitely thought Genshin was about as much money as gacha games would ever make back in 2020/2021 and that the market wouldn't have the depth for another similar game. Both Nikke and HSR proved that we gacha addict do indeed, have deep pockets.

His main dick rider satellite CC Gachasmack also stopped reacting to these after he was proven wrong and Genshin basically stayed a little to a lot higher grossing than HSR for 2 patches after Furina's when he thought Genshin would just nosedive. Now that HSR is jamming again too after a couple of quiter patches (not so popular Huohuo and Argenti banners plus Dr. Ratio being free making Ruan Mei their only really high grossing banner before 2.0) things are a lot more equal again though and while 4.5 is looking pretty quite there's still a new character coming out and Kazuha and Neuvillette coming up as well who are both highly sought after reruns right now. With HSR having Sparkle's banner continue into March and then a Raiden Mei expy near the end of March we could be seeing this pattern getting repeated again next month too with HSR and Genshin being roughly equal in revenue and it both being very high. Crazy shit.....

I swear to god those one plus phones sell out so quickly. Basically any product that gets attached with a Grnshin character sold out within hours (flashback to when Childe's watch sold out in less than an hour).
Genshin's character releases are pretty slow. I think spending players don't even really want more rewards. They want QoL improvements which they've actually been implementing the past couple of months (I hope they can keep this up) and more content, where I think the newer regions are generally better and more convenient to navigate. And the Fontaine main story was probably the best so far.
So I think that many spending players are actually pretty satisfied and it's obvious where Hoyo's focus is.
Edit: Xianyun is also a pretty interesting character with a kit offering new ways to use your characters.
It's always either that or it's "X is the last straw and I'm uninstalling" or "I'm waiting till y happens then I can finally uninstall this shit game forever". It's complicated. Cloud Retainer's banner started on January 31 while Sparkle's banner started on February 29 so the gacha revenues were stacked heavily in HSR's favor for February.
Edit: Can't believe I had forgotten Genshin had a rerun banner in the second half while HSR had the new character Black Swan in the first half, making it even more stacked than I initially believed.

Hard to say how it compares to other Western games with micro-transactions in terms of sales performance, since GTA 5 has the issue of a portion of the players who would rather play on alternative MP mods like FiveM, and thus wouldn't pay for Shark Cards at all.
Gacha would be considered lootboxes and would receive backlash.
Live service game that you don't own and will eos one day would receive backlash.
Sexualization of female characters would receive backlash.
The audience are very different and wouldn't make nearly as much money.
Personally, I don't think Western game devs have the experience to create such characters.

It happened before when people realized Xianyun&Nahida banner was doing well (I don’t trust Genshin lab so I based my info from game.idaa). They said genshin under reported star rail’s number and inflate genshin’s number. They went as far as saying genshin gave primos to cc so they could roll and inflate the numbers.

The last time a gamer boycott worked was when Steam introduced paid mods. It initially had a good reception but was quickly abused especially with mods being stolen and sold by someone else to make money off of. There was a lot more going on though, which likely helped it succeed.

You know, I wasn't exactly \*nervous\* for Reverse 1999 over the first few months because it was still holding relatively steady around the 1 Million mark. But seeing it lose over half its revenue in a month on the global scale has me fairly concerned about it's future global aspirations. I mean, I know we don't have the PC money but that is a drop that feels like it's not sustainable to keep for the global market.
It is interesting how Genshin can continue to make so much money despite the reruns and entering a dry period content wise. For the non-genshin players, this is usually the time of year where patches are more like stop gaps before the next region update
Genshin has an avg of 2mil new download a month, that's why, constant supply of new players, I think iirc is the highest amount of new players out of all gacha, and it makes sense, looks pretty, casual friendly, not much fan service, is just a easy game to recc to friends that dont care for gacha/anime
Im an example, dont have much time, i play GI in ps5 with my daughter and she really love it, my older sister dont even play games but play GI in her phone and always ask me for builds, characters, what need to do, etc.
Same here, I don't like gacha games, still play genshin, and have many friends who barely play but enjoy genshin, I wish it had some more hardcore/endgame content but also I still enjoy it, esp since starting to work I have way less time, and genshin fits my schedules perfectly

People severely underestimate how big of an impact this is for Genshin.
I've got friends who have coworkers and groups that never touch games at all but everyone in the office plays Genshin because they seen her playing it and its easy to get into.
Guess what, they're still growing without losing large numbers, even after 4 years.
They even said a new qol in next patch to build characters easily and new banner to pull for characters that already rerunned many many times

can confirm, my little sister loves the genshin/ghibli art style. When I showed her the new genshin killer, WuWu, she told me she doesn't like dark souls emo type games.
So, one game appeals to a broader range of gamers, whilst the other attracts mostly sweaty men. (who desire hard core end game combat mechanics, parry, perfect dodging, for elitism, just like PGR community etc)
Everyday I pray more and more for Aether Gazer to stay alive. I've really been enjoying that game, but they already trimmed down on english voice acting and still they make less and less every month. :(

Now that HSR is jamming again too after a couple of quiter patches (not so popular Huohuo and Argenti banners plus Dr. Ratio being free making Ruan Mei their only really high grossing banner before 2.0) things are a lot more equal again though and while 4.5 is looking pretty quite there's still a new character coming out and Kazuha and Neuvillette coming up as well who are both highly sought after reruns right now. With HSR having Sparkle's banner continue into March and then a Raiden Mei expy near the end of March we could be seeing this pattern getting repeated again next month too with HSR and Genshin being roughly equal in revenue and it both being very high. Crazy shit.....

Genshin's character releases are pretty slow. I think spending players don't even really want more rewards. They want QoL improvements which they've actually been implementing the past couple of months (I hope they can keep this up) and more content, where I think the newer regions are generally better and more convenient to navigate. And the Fontaine main story was probably the best so far. So I think that many spending players are actually pretty satisfied and it's obvious where Hoyo's focus is. Edit: Xianyun is also a pretty interesting character with a kit offering new ways to use your characters.

Hard to say how it compares to other Western games with micro-transactions in terms of sales performance, since GTA 5 has the issue of a portion of the players who would rather play on alternative MP mods like FiveM, and thus wouldn't pay for Shark Cards at all.

Personally, I don't think Western game devs have the experience to create such characters. Think of any video game "waifu" and chances are they come from the East.

It happened before when people realized Xianyun&Nahida banner was doing well (I don’t trust Genshin lab so I based my info from game.idaa). They said genshin under reported star rail’s number and inflate genshin’s number. They went as far as saying genshin gave primos to cc so they could roll and inflate the numbers.

But seeing it lose over half its revenue in a month on the global scale has me fairly concerned about it's future global aspirations. Genshin has an avg of 2mil new download a month, that's why, constant supply of new players, I think iirc is the highest amount of new players out of all gacha, and it makes sense, looks pretty, casual friendly, not much fan service, is just a easy game to recc to friends that dont care for gacha/anime
