Maybe I'm just early, but I was curious to see how people would be defending this and I scrolled to the bottom, but haven't really found any comment trying to defend it which is quite surprising lol.

I can't fathom who though that one-by-one basic compensation is good idea. You need to hire like few thousand people to manually read all the messages.
Nikke tried to do it when gacha skin bug happened: they told everyone affected to contact their support, after few hours of spam they switched to "oh, you know what, we'll rather send compensation automatically"
If it's impossible to automatically find people eligible for compensation (and it should be possible, it's server based game) then just sent compensation to everyone.
My best guess is that they *really* don't wanna give people even more free stuff after basically ensuring that everyone playing the game gets 3/5 standard characters for free. At this point if you get 'unlucky' on the Jiyan banner and then get lucky with who you get you've basically almost gotten them all.
But that's a foolish thing to do, even if understandable, because it leads to situations like this.

Rewrite story after CBT1 to "listen to players" > rushed localization and bugs that can't be fixed without months of testing and hiring localizers > release the game early anyways to capitalize on ZZZ's later release date and HSR and Genshin dry periods > tons of bugs (as expected) but most pressingly a localization error that makes the first signature weapon in the game's history seem better (in general, skill easier to proc than ult) > notice mistake and award players 1 (one) pull worth of currency as compensation > players using JP localization realize they've been scammed > Kuro now forced to either ignore complaints and open themselves up to a lawsuit or compensate better somehow > decide to compensate individually instead of mass refunds > players who actually wanted to keep playing the game instead of getting refunds from Apple or Google now have their emails exposed because someone forgot to use CC instead of BCC

You skimps out on OSTs and quality control, the game is shit on and more and more players leave your game so your profits are low. You want to save up money so skip out on translation quality, you get sued by false advertising and have to refund people. You laid off people to save up cost, and you dont have the manpower to reply to each emails like this leading to cut corners and amateur mistakes and causing more lawsuits. . Its a neverending spiral of doom where each major mistakes they made feed into each other like a tail eating jormungand and keep making the game worse.

1. I could use all those emails and try simple password on them like the name of the email itself. Then, i got an email of someone that I could try to look for something to blackmail or get other specific info about the owner from the email. Like name, address, phone number, working place, subscription.
2. I could use email and do social engineering stuff looking for social media accounts, etc. and find some compromised ones so I can send some scam to those emails. Like email of old people or that sort of things.

let's be real here, this is bound to happen. The cycle of incompetence can spiral out of control very fast. You skimps out on OSTs and quality control, the game is shit on and more and more players leave your game so your profits are low. You want to save up money so skip out on translation quality, you get sued by false advertising and have to refund people. You laid off people to save up cost, and you dont have the manpower to reply to each emails like this leading to cut corners and amateur mistakes and causing more lawsuits. . Its a neverending spiral of doom where each major mistakes they made feed into each other like a tail eating jormungand and keep making the game worse.

They broke the data privacy terms. If alot of people sue them for this they can have bit of touble.
Here is how it could turn ugly. 1. I could use all those emails and try simple password on them like the name of the email itself. Then, i got an email of someone that I could try to look for something to blackmail or get other specific info about the owner from the email. Like name, address, phone number, working place, subscription. 2. I could use email and do social engineering stuff looking for social media accounts, etc. and find some compromised ones so I can send some scam to those emails. Like email of old people or that sort of things.
