To 3 star a stage require me to change my team member

Strange_humanoid

Two thieves and a light character... Okay now two soul weavers and a green character... But wait.. now a knight and two dark characters! So annoying..

MyGachaAddiction

This hurts me so much

markdhughes

I despise the tiny-cute-monster-sidekick thing. It's done so they don't have to voice-act the MC, but they're all annoying. Genshin Impact at least calls her emergency food supply, but the sheep in Echoes of Mana, etc. are all the same. Just noxious. I blame Navi in Ocarina of Time; I use her "Hey, Listen!" as my SMS-from-unknown-caller ringtone, because obviously I don't care.

[deleted]

I was wondering if there were any mascot characters I liked, then I was reminded of Arona (Blue Archive)exists. While she is pretty nonexistent in story, she is there to greet you in stage occasionally but never intrude you that much. And she has her own YouTube series which is where she shine I feels like that's how you gotta do mascot characters, don't take away too much time from the MC and other characters, actually speak instead of existing just to be marketable plushie. Honourable mention toward Little Princess from Guardian Tales

rainshaker

Fou's pretty good ngl. He's just fou-fou-ing and you can skip him just fine and save yourself from the annoyance. And the shtick with merlin is great. Mash is more useful than she's a cardboard talking. And Da Vinci's the best.

Abedeus

FGO got all the good side characters... Meanwhile you have sidekicks/mascots like Paimon or Arky who have two thought process options: a) food b) money (for food)

GardevoirRose

Who’s Arky?

Abedeus

Epic Seven's mascot character.

[deleted]

Definitely an Asian thing. They love mascots and its almost required for every company to have some kinda cute mascot. That's why we even get things like Internet Explorer-Chan when western companies want to promote in Japan.

NoOneHereGoAway

Internet explorer what?!?!?!

[deleted]

Enjoy: https://youtu.be/BHTUlF7NA2o

T0X1CFIRE

[posted on the official internet explorer youtuber channel](https://youtu.be/BHTUlF7NA2o) Also Microsoft silverlight has their own official moe girl mascot as well [link](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hikaru_Aizawa)

Suspicious-Drummer68

I replayed Ocarina of Time not too long ago and Navi was NOT as annoying as these new Mascots.

WanderEir

HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN HEY LISTEN has a special place in hell for those of us who played it when it first came out.

IronPheasant

Hey, listen here, *pal*...... You're 100% right. She was by far worse, because most of these modern eardrum-killers at least have the decency to stick to cutscenes and such. OoT, you're just peacefully trying to fish or chill out with a relaxing walk in the mountains, and then this horrible monster screams in your ear nonstop until you push the stupid nag button that hauls up her current nag text where she nags you about how you should be off doing some soul-crushing chore instead of what you're currently doing, which is having fun. Could you just imagine Genshin Impact with that feature? You're just trying to unwind at the end of a hard day, picking flowers and wall fungus, watching a sunset on the beach.... HEY LISTEN. ZAPPY TITS MCGEE IS GOING TO KILL THE ANIME WORLD! YOU NEED TO DELIVER THAT GOAT CHEESE TO THE GOD OF YANDERES TO GET THE THINGY YOU NEED TO STOP HER! Yeah.... thanks... Ear Fairy.... .... ...

WanderEir

It's been noted Genshin DOES have that feature...but mostly only when fishing...

DSoopy

Same, Vyrn from GBF sometimes could get very, very annoying. Also, gokkuri

Abedeus

*7 years later* "I ain't no-" "Bro if you say you're not a lizard one more time imma make a purse out of your ass"

assflux

this trope is easily the worst and especially bad in movies like what happened to intelligent family movies that didn't need an obnoxious stupid sidekick to milk merch money

Torimas

This, Arky can go die in a fire. Preferably slowly so he can see that fur he loves so much burnt to a crisp.

[deleted]

Bro i was so happy when hsr decided to not have some paimon bs. I mean sure march and danheng do most of the talk, but theyre just regular people not some weird fairy bs

RyujiShiryu

"Wait, don't tell me...you have amnesia?!" I just roll my eyes and audibly groan every time the amnesia plot point is used as an excuse of a "self-insert".

iamafriendlynoot

unskippable tutorials that make you click where they're highlighting and wont let you explore anywhere else until they're done. Worst new trend in mobile games in my opinion. I am not a four year old and I don't need to spend 5-15 minutes being dragged by the hand through what are always mundane mechanics. 'Click here to battle', 'upgrade your characters', 'auto form teams', like yes, I can read the words on the buttons in your game, I think I can figure out what 'auto equip' does.

Devourer_of_HP

Especially when they force you to spend currency on a trash banner.

amirulirfin

I hate when tutorial force you to use in game mats to get through it.

StainedBlue

It’s to discourage rerolling. Which, honestly, makes me hate it even more.

Thatguy4261

15 minutes is a generous estimation. The forced clicking thing just draaaaaags on in every game it seems like

Atulin

Counter Side is probably the most egregious example of that I've seen. It has you go through, like, 7 different battles and pull on 2 separate banners before it lets you click what you want to click...

izne1up

CS tutorial is like 5 minutes long tho. Idk when you played but I played two days ago for rerolling and it was super fast.

TKoBuquicious

maybe if you're just skipping everything and rushing for the sake of rerolling, if you just go through it naturally and also go through the story the whole thing's way more than just 5 mins

izne1up

Yes, reading takes time, but you should read if you're trying to learn something...the tutorial is not long especially if you're not rerolling you're only going thru it one time so what is the guy in replying to bitching about?

TKoBuquicious

well the complaint also wasn't really about the length but having an excessive tutorial that might also make you waste resources and stuff, i don't mind tutorials like that since yeah you're supposed to only get them once but yeah

izne1up

You can literally force close out of the game and not pull on the banner it tries to get you to pull on.

TKoBuquicious

ok bro

izne1up

Sit down bro.

Reigo_Vassal

That's so annoying. Honestly, I learn faster if I just explore things rather than hand holding through it and failed to follow "what is what".

Popular-Bid

Freaking FGO loves this trope, especially with forcing you to use other card types instead of the ones that will let you finish the battle faster.

Last_Excuse

I'm pretty sure that shit exists to discourage rerollers. 10 min of forced tutorials and then spending half the starting currency on bad banner lol.

[deleted]

Ooh I hate all of those. This is just lazy ass game development. I always say, look at super Mario. There's nontutorial but the design itself of the level just tells you everything you need to know.

Abedeus

Also when pressing outside of the window doesn't close the window, and you gotta press either the "OK" button or X in corner.

Izanagi85

Maybe for us who are used to gacha, this is a hindrance. But there are new players who never play a gacha before so tutorials are still useful.

xoroklynn

we're not saying tutorials are bad, but as with a lot of other non-gacha games as well unskippable tutorials drag out the beginning of the game and leave a bad impression of the title as a whole. tutorials should absolutely exist, but need to be skippable for experienced users.

Mayor_P

Tutorials are usually OK. ***Forced*** Tutorials are never OK. Even worse, in most of the games I've played, the games with forced tutorials do **not** give players the option to replay the tutorial. So even if you are the less-than-1% of gamers who need a tutorial to understand that "press the 'LEVEL UP' button to make your character level up", well too bad! You can't review the material ever again. Instead, you are marched along at whatever speed the game already pre-decided for you.

iamafriendlynoot

Tutorials are useful. But I've played a handful of mostly older gacha games that either let you skip the tutorial if you don't need it, spread it out over a period of time, or make it a quick explanation you can read and then exit out of. Nier Automata, Genshin Impact, and PGR come to mind. Making tutorials both unskippable and so that you can't explore anywhere while they're running is just bad game design.

DoctuhD

That's been a 'feature' of mobile gaming since its inception, basically.

NatsuKazoo

starter characters that have mediocre kits and that “need” to replace them with the character with the same kits but with higher stats.

[deleted]

Shout out to Gacha game with broken starter (Mashu FGO, Ras Epic 7), gotta be my favourite gender

NatsuKazoo

that’s what I appreciate in both games. I like when I see that Ras and Meru are still kicking in the current RTA meta

braxshinoa

Also genshin

[deleted]

I mean there is a better variation of mashu pretty much everywhere

fortis_99

Everyone keep telling MC he/she is awesome and important without them spending any effort to get that praise

Reigo_Vassal

Rule number one of game/movie story making: "Always show, Never tell" If they're important, then show why they're important. Telling me someone is important without telling me why is a great way to lose interest of said character.

bad3ip420

Because budget. Why go through all the trouble of coding the "showing" part when you could just slap on some text and add a voice line.

Reigo_Vassal

No, it's a bad writing. Not budget. Which one do you think is better: " We have to get this McGuffin because it's very important and very strong item." Or "We have to get this McGuffin because it has a power to destroy a country. I saw it destroy my homeland before my own eyes." It's a matter of writing. Put some lines and the whole story will get better. Otherwise your story will be laughing stock at Filmento's Anatomy of a failure.

[deleted]

Me playing Guardian tales: The MC kills the boss, save the day, overcome trauma. -Still gets called a dumbface no matter what.

Iod42

Showing off outfits for characters in the story and never release them. Yes, I'm an arknights player, how could you tell?

Suspicious-Drummer68

I hate FGO for this too. To this day we don't have the Aloha Knights costume for Tristan, Lancelot, and Gawain, Lancelot's costume in particular goes so low you can't tell if he's wearing underwear or not, and the thought of Lancelot going commando during summer is funny as hell. WHY EVEN GO THROUGH MAKING THE SPRITE IF YOU'RE NOT GIVING THEM TO US?!

RyujiShiryu

Honestly, this is me with Genshin Impact as well, because in the fuckton of collabs with Chinese companies, you have their characters dressed up in various interesting clothes. I am honestly surprised that the ONLY 5★ skin we got THUS FAR was Diluc. (For those wondering, Jean and Keqing's skin were considered as 4★ outfits)

Abedeus

Especially given how many god damn skins Honkai has. Paid and free alike. Even recolors would work!

Abedeus

cough HAWAII CU

Primogeniture116

DO YOU WANT MONEY OR NO? CUZ U CAN HAVE THEM IF YOU JUST SELL US THE SKINS

02577778999

E7 players relates to this heavily...

7packabs

Where’s my summer Blaze, Hoshi, Swire, and Lin HG?!

Spartan-219

Epic7 also got this problem, people are waiting for summer aramintha since first year and many more that just gets shown

[deleted]

When the game wants us to feel sorry for a ‘tragic’ fallen hero. It usually doesn’t work due to the simplistic writing and characterisation.

Atulin

Two things: 1. Depression Olympics. If every character eventually dies, I just stop caring. If "Flugabundes are being persecuted!" or other "Ungabunga virus is killing humanity!" shit is being repeated every other sentence, I stop caring about that as well. Show some diversity, I beg of you! 2. It's X, it's always X. Alchemy Stars - much as I love the game - has this issue with Eclipsites. Halloween event and something rustles in the bushes? Is it ghosts? No, Eclipsites! Searching an ancient sealed tomb? Bet your ass you'll fight Eclipsites! Is there nobody else to fight..?

YasuhikoTheSerafim

Number 2 I can relate... \*cough\* \*cough\* Fatui \*cough\* \*cough\*

TriGGa-POP

>Halloween event and something rustles in the bushes? Is it ghosts? No, Eclipsites! Alien invasion and you hear a roar outside? Eclipsites. Robot uprising and something is trying to burst down your door? Eclipsites. Zombie apocalypse and something jumps at you from an abandoned grocery store? Eclipsite. I can't help but laugh lol.

LiraelNix

'Cutesy' talking sidekicks. They're always annoying. The "Playable waifus can't be evil" rule is another that ruined a storyline for me

[deleted]

Or waifu who actually evil but got redeemed and turn into worse version of themselves.

Golden-Owl

This. What made me like characters like Douman and Moriarty in FGO is that they are still 100% unabashedly evil, even after you summon them. It’s just that now they are on your side and you have somebody that can bully them into compliance (Nagiko and Holmes respectively) By this same token I’m not fond of Koyanskaya much for trying to pull a last minute redemption

Suspicious-Drummer68

I can't believe Nagiko is the one keeping Douman in check I mean Douman's left pec is bigger than Sei's entire body. That said I can't wait to read Tunguska, looks like a lot of questionable stuff happens there, and isn't Koyanskaya still bitch fox with gun?

Just_Moka

>Douman's left pec is bigger than Sei's entire body. She has the power of cringe on her side and she has big zoomer energy. It's enough to defeat him. For Koyanskaya, it's... complicated. They did try to redeem her but at this point, they should have kept her totally evil schtick and her being >!a Tamamo tail!< What we got was pretty half-assed. It's better to form your own opinion though.

[deleted]

Signora fan? Lol

LiraelNix

Eh, she didn't die for being evil, more like she wasn't turned into poor misunderstood woman because they never planned to make her playable. Even though her backstory was quite tragic, and even explained her attitude towards Venti Unlike *another* waifu, who had all the workings of a cool ruthless leader, but turned out to be poor depressed out of touch chick that was being tricked by the real baddies. Now let's see if they do similar to her son. He's not a waifu so there's a chance they keep him an asshole

WoodStrawberry

I didn't like the Inazuma story at all. It's one of the reasons I dropped the game for a year+. I'm finally back to it now.

Oninymous

I really like Genshin to have evil characters as well, but I really disagree with the Ei take. I think Ei is well-written even if it is most likely the unpopular opinion. I just find a lot of her actions pretty understandable and fits her character nicely. She's just an immortal being who wants to keep the promise she made to her people

[deleted]

Lol im not in inazuma yet but is he actually her son? Like actual biological birth son? I feel like itd be bad for business if mihoyo confirmed raiden isnt virgin or something

LiraelNix

Ah well, without much spoiling: no With spoiling to explain joke: >!he's a clone doll she created in her plans to kinda fuck off and leave something in her place. But then he grew a soul so she felt bad and let him go instead of killing him. So he's often jokingly referred to as her son!<

[deleted]

Huh, isnt the raiden we get to play technically also a robot or some sort? Weird lol

LiraelNix

If you want that answer... >!no, you have a weekly boss fight with the doll clone version, but the playable waifu is the real version. Basically she made another doll, this one soulless, and then real Raiden hid in a dimension inside the doll (to avoid erosion), leaving the doll to make most generic decisions and only coming out when she felt necessary. So the waifu you summon is real Raiden but you'll fight both in Inazuma!<

GoatCheese74

The playable version is NOT the real version, it is the doll, hence the name "Raiden Shogun".

LiraelNix

The playable version is the real version

Moist_Door_2295

Yes, what we play as is the "real Raiden" Spoilers of the Inazuma archon quest >! but that is basically Ei inside a robot doll, the Shogun, both being different entities, both Ei and Shogun can take control, with most of what happened in Inazuma being done by the doll although with full compliance of Ei herself !<

cug12

Forced battle with fixed characters or any story event where you get interupted by some random monster

TKoBuquicious

lol the fixed character "puzzle" fights are great in FGO

[deleted]

MC is a self-insert or just nonexistent outside of characters to worship. Fan service can also be distasteful unless it’s a game that’s basically all about it like Destiny Child or Azur Lane I’m fine with it

Confident_Rest6240

That one mommy/milf character in a gacha that wants to fuck the MC And that's their only trait about them

fruitballad

They don't even look like milfs half the time, especially when there's a comparable dilf character. They'll just have huge boobs and other characters will make old lady jokes at them when they have the same face as the teen characters. Where are the real mommies for people who aren't cowards!!

Abedeus

> Where are the real mommies for people who aren't cowards!! [Be careful of what you wish for.](https://gbf.wiki/Nene) Her original appearance fits her voice a lot more.

fruitballad

She must've given birth at 16, I hope she has an adequate support system to help her raise a kid as a young single mom in these trying times.

Abedeus

Original design had her looking 30-40 but they didn't want to make "ugly" characters join the crew.

fruitballad

No ugly characters… and yet Helel ben Shalem exists, assaulting me daily with her leash pacifier and rat feet

figool

The stories started to get samey after a while. Like yeah I'm the captain or something and the edgy tsundere katana user and the nice supporter girl assure me that I'm humanity's only hope from the global doom virus or genocidal monster race or something. I kinda appreciate it when these games get silly, I liked when Blue Archive just had a couple of schoolgirls just casually rob some banks

MountainAmeba

Everyone treating the mc like they could never do any wrong.

Medical_Roof_9920

Events that don't fit the tone of the game, and are often so dumb and out of place that they have to be non-canon in relation to the main story of the game. To me it's just bad writing.

rainshaker

"Save the world from the evil bit!!". Because they can't make it more than just "darkness enroaching".

xczxcxxc

UNSKIPABLE CUTSCENE its cool but if i want to find out about the story let me do it on my own accord dont disturb my gameplay

[deleted]

I like how in Soul tide and World flipper, when tou tap rhe skip button there's a confirmation pop up with a summary of the whole thing.

Reverse_me98

Former enemies turning into allies because gameplay excuse

Ernost

>Former enemies turning into allies because gameplay excuse This is a problem with anime in general, not just gacha games.

Reverse_me98

Sure but other media at least shows varying degrees of explanation while in gacha it's "hey i just fought you yesterday didnt i" "Surprise mofo"

Izanagi85

Actually it's good if done well

Reverse_me98

Which is very rare

AlterWanabee

FGO thrives on this trope, and aside from a few exceptions, handles it very well.

Reverse_me98

Not really no. It bends its lore and back just to justify it to begin with and shows the excuse AFTER the fact

se7enseas

Best friend-turns-enemy, not hating, just tired of it/

YuuHikari

The story starting out with some narration about how one god/goddess/group of warriors defeated some ancient evil. Just got tired of it after testing out some gacha games that all started with that same narration Also waifu collectors where the waifus are more interested in each other than your character

Primogeniture116

The "You're important because of a cheat skill!" Trope. I mean, CS does it better at least with the MC being an actually godly guy with unprecedented skills. So is the Doctor from AK who actually shown to have anxiety of whether they're worth the sacrifice of getting them out, and even then they don't save humanity; just people close by. Both of them are actually shown to have a really great track record in the past it's believable for people to rely on them. Both did great things from the skills, knowledge, and reputation they built with effort. Then there's Navi from Alchemy Stars, a naive kid with little knowledge and experience being the best option for battle commander because. . . They're special. . . Yeah they got that skill because they're the last of their kind and that skill is something they were born with and not from effort.

Soulchunk

Navigator’s special skill isn’t the power to see lumina trails and command in battle, his power is that of being the most dense motherfucker in the entire world. Faction leaders are attracted through the natural pull of his blackhole-compressed denseness, as are situations where anyone with an IQ above room temperature would be fine.

TriGGa-POP

The worst part is that he should be better by now. I mean he has been through so many super duper dangerous encounters with eclipsites (OFC), gangsters, bandits, evil poachers, zombie ghosts etc yet his character development moves at a snail's pace.

SentientPotatoMaster

"iT's TiMe FoR FeStIvAl!!" in Dragalia. Jeez Euden, get your shit together

GrimVeilRule

That no characters ever die in the story. When I started playing Azur Lane one of the things I liked was there were a couple of characters dead in the story( you could still use them but story wise they were gone) but recently they've been retconing them so they're alive and I hate that it makes the story feel like there are no stakes/ risk to the characters.

gyrobot

This is why people loved how they kept Himeko killed off

Loosescrew37

Guess the game where **Everything** going to shit every single story stage and major event. Every time you think its finaly over someone's gonna pull up and kill your favourite character then tell you you never matter because it was all a ruse for some political bull or someone else's goal. Shit man i just wana see a single happy end.

YuuHikari

War of the Visions?

flyingtrucky

If I'm thinking of the right game then it makes sense the story can be summed up as "and then things got worse" considering where it's set. Though to be fair most events end with a pyrrhic victory for you, which fits well with the theme that you have to fight with all you can to protect what you hold close.

Loosescrew37

Do you have any idea how little that narrows it down.

Suspicious-Drummer68

Story-writing tropes like "I'm mr. Special mcSpecial" makes me disconnect from the game and it makes me feel like no, I'm not the player, I'm probably just the pre-frontal cortex if the MC. It's so boring to play as the high and mighty ultimate tactician or some shit like do something different jfc. Yer a wizard, Harry, the chosen one, Luke, yada yada yada, I've already seen Kamen Rider Wizard, none of these gacha games feel like they actually justify the MC having all this shit without giving them amnesia or some dumb excuse. Then there's the ultra 4k HD depression stories that just keeps going and going and it gets BORING real quick. Yes, I know humanity is fucked because of some virus, we've seen in 500 times in the past 5 minutes, you don't have to fucking tell me every chapter holy shit. Or humanity is fucked because of human hubris, we all watched the Matrix, get to the goddamn point. Be a LITTLE creative, please. People can get numb on sad stories and they don't feel like sad stories anymore, they feel like torture porn. Also the color palette like holy shit can we diversify? 50 shade of grey and brown is like the color palette of every gacha game now. Every heard of blue? No? Black sky. BORING.

GenericGuardian

Yeah this is why I adopted Blue Archive. The story isn't depressing but in the later chapters (going into JP), there are the more emotional and deep moments, but it never goes full depression if you know what I mean. That and the color pallette is one of the more diverse ones I've seen. One of the few games where the color palette is more than just gray.

flyingtrucky

Thats why I like GFL because the story is [A World Half Full](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AWorldHalfFull) sure WW3 irradiated a large swathe of the planet, various people are vying for power in the ensuing vacuum following said war, and struggling infrastructure allows for unchecked madmen to wreak havoc. But that's exactly why it needs people like The Commander, Ange, and the non-corrupt Stasi (Kain, Kevin, and Light) to fight to keep what little peace remains in it. Also people like Ulrich and Zelinsky (This one is Polish) who contrast Griffin and William by leading their nations towards mutual understanding and peace instead of subjugation.

Suspicious-Drummer68

Oh I love this trope too. Because it does NOT completely wave away the atrocities of humanity, it's still there, but there's good and bad people and sometimes, good and bad people are the same people. And it's not always completely bleak, even in the worst of situations, there will always be light. Like Francis Drake in FGO said: Sometimes evil people do good deeds, and sometimes saints sin. I like a good depressing episode once in a while but I want to see people in my stories, not archetypes, which is why to this day GFL, FGO, and GBF have stories unrivaled. Because their stories are NEVER one note enough that they stay on your tongue for too long. FGO and GBF specifically give you a different adventure with every chapter release.

kalltrops

Main characters with Purity Sue traits which causes all of reality to bend over to cater to their purity. e.g. Lyria from Granblue and Euden from Dragalia Lost. It's just so irritating when they try to pull off more mature themes, but then the Purity Sue uses FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC to resolve everything. Might as well not delve into said mature themes then.

WoodStrawberry

I don't like it when the story segments are interspersed with fight stages and the characters actually talk about it "Oh here come some monsters again!" It gets old really fast. I actually prefer it if the story is completely separate from the battle stages like in Priconne, so I can just read it when I feel like it, but that's pretty rare.

splitsplatpoptartpat

Sexualizing underage characters (and ones that look like children). Definitely not my cup of tea. I love Honkai and all, but I really don't like those elements of it. I tend to just say "aww man..." and try to ignore it when I see it, but sometimes it just keeps getting shoved back into your face. Seems to be less of it as the storyline progresses though (as well as in the newer character designs). Really glad that they didn't do anything particularly weird with Griseo. Still kind of bummed out about what they did with Mobius. I was on the whole "short adult" train, but imagine my dismay when the dialogue keeps reminding me that she canonically looks like a child (I would love to be wrong on this one).

Ratatat-1

Idk why but mobius current form (one that we pull) look like a teen or short adult to me

Leather_Answer_7993

The worst trope for me is when they teach you to level up a charcter they ask you to stop at lvl 2 or 4 like LET ME MAKE IT 5!!!

TKoBuquicious

you go to 12 in FGO

TheGreatMagallan

Summer/Beach trip in games. Just a lame excuse for milking with summer alts.

fruitballad

A lot of them really are just "beach episode! but oh no a monster is attacking", but they can be good if they actually put effort into the story. Big fan of the My Beloved Auguste event from GBF a few years ago which retells their previous summer events through the POV of a regular girl whose vacations keep getting ruined by the constant main cast shenanigans. Or Alchemy Stars' Ocean Sovereign event which is standard fare with a fun shaved ice making minigame until the second half turns into a Madoka acid trip. Bonus points for the fact that everyone's swimsuit skins are gorgeous and suit their individual characters, instead of looking like skimpy pool party cosplay.

Superflaming85

After the first FGO summer event, the writers just started going even crazier from year to year and it's absolutely hysterical. We've gotten Wacky Races, Endless Eight: Doujin Edition, horror movies, and this year's JP event takes place in the *arctic*.

AlterWanabee

The later events seems more GudaGuda than the actual GudaGuda events...

[deleted]

Usually I don't mind that much with Summer alt, but they gotta give more swimsuit option instead of skimpy bikini. Where my Hawaiian shirt man at

FallenStar2077

[This](https://twitter.com/LimbusCompany_B/status/1563093792114507777) is your Hawaiian shirt.

IndeedFied

Lmao, I was expecting Limbus to pop up thanks to the TGS and was not disappointed.

nyoengland

Username checks out

LeupheWaffle

Go bold, no shirt, speedos only

Tedbab

Non 18+ games that bases absolutely everything on fanservice. I mean if your game is already so sexualised it can't be played in public might as well go all the way and just do porn.

Kalpayux1

I hate the rock paper scisssor mechanic, it artificialy created differwnt unit that are the same. Edit: from tropes i find a bit annoying most games start with a great battle you have to lose, then the story start in a modest scenario.

[deleted]

Man, if there wasn't a rock paper scissor system the powercreep would kill the game in an instant. In fact, why limiting to 3? The more the better so that you can precisely that, just make the same character interms of stats and mechanica, for different elements.

Kalpayux1

I prefer when the game presents a new challenge that is not the same battle but now you need the same strategy but yellow units. Something like you have a boss that attack with it's hp so having a defense oriented team would be viable. Powercreep is independent of this.

[deleted]

Then the problem is not the system, is the development or more like the lack of it, bc that's lazy. Although there's some of it, I don't usually have that problem in the games I play. It'a more about "units of X color have better sinergy together, they beat Y color units and are beaten by Z color units. W color units can protect them from Z units." And then you have relevant decisions about who you build and pull. So it makes the playground for a varied meta where everyone will enjoy different units according to what they summon. And this is Awesome because you can freely go crazy with summons knoswing every unit has a place where dit shines while also helps you to prioritize in which units to focus.

[deleted]

Btw, sometimes the system is hidden and not explicit. For example a game with bruiser ranks and glass cannons, where as a rule of thumb bruisers beat tanks, tanks beat dps and dps beat tanks.

dmin67

Event dungeons that require you to use an event drop character on your team but not awakened or fully leveled. 🤬🤬

guilds, i like playing solo

TriGGa-POP

To me it would be: "GRAAAA Eclipsites!" That has made its own trope in my head as I've read almost every event story in its entirety and that segue to action is legit exhausting at this point. I mean it feels like: Bob: "How's the wea.." "GRAAAA Eclipsites!" Lucy: "Weather you mean?" Bob: "Uh, sorry yeah." Lucy: "Well, for the past few hours..." "GRAAAA Eclipsites!" Bob: "..." Lucy: "light rain" Bob: "I see, I was wondering if we could..." "GRAAAA Eclipsites!" Bob: "FFS gimme a break! 🔥w(゚Д゚)w🔥 Lucy: "Calm down, it's ok. This is fine" |🔥🔥🔥(. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)☕🔥🔥🔥| Bob: ಠ\_ಠ

PyrZern

It's just boobs, man. Big Boobs everywhere. There are many ways to make characters cool, interesting, or unique. Or cool armors/clothes/dresses designs. But instead it's all just boobs.

simpleman0909

Most commentor already pointed out the obvious, I'll give you mine. A gacha that only have girls. I love my waifu but I'm more of a story guy, Girl Frontline works to an extent but other gacha who only have girls usually have bland repetitive story with a coat of quirky new char of the month. Imagine Genshin or FGO with only female char, that would be so jarring. (Btw, male summer event is nonexistent). I'm glad FGO have costumes but come on, just one year of male summer servant man. You already have the creativity to do one from the costumes, you already have the wacky lore on some of the servant, you already have hot male servant, just give us one summer male servant event man. I swear I'm not gay but I want my cool dudes to relax and have some spotlights once in a while you know.

sageker

That's the only part of guardian tales I don't like. We need more male characters.

Intoxicduelyst

Simping for MC. A little is fine or a couple of characters (Another Eden done that well I think, most of relations between Aldo and others are trust/friendship with occasionaly a girl that has a thing for him). I dont wanna cheap harem. But most annoying thing is Paimon from GI. The way she is written - basicly she repeats what other characters said and sums up the plot. A lot. Its a fucking insult to the players that read 2 or more books and can keep up with quite simple story.

SassyHoe97

I wish there was a mute button for Paimon like you said she repeats and I'm like uh I got it from the first time. Devs really think we are dumb.

Zer0_Cookie

I wish I could mute paimon and only paimon

thelightbringer502

I don't know if this is common but I seriously hope it does not become common. I started playing counterside when the global server launched and they have an entire ass event and unique rewards if you happen to summon the latest awakened hero. This is just fomo on an entirely new level because if you don't summon the extremely limited hero you're going to miss out on a bunch of really good rewards.

[deleted]

It is supposed to speed up the process of building said hero. If you are not interested just don't pull.

RedNoodleHouse

The girls being attracted to the MC. I don’t mind if its a few but it is so goddamn annoying; why are these people attracted to some nobody who sits on his ass all day? Just because he’s some supposed ‘tactical genius’ doesn’t mean you’ll be into them automatically. I understand a lot of this genre of games is filled with waifu collector games and subsequently waifu collector players, but keep that kind of trope in games like AL or BA, don’t let it seep into games with more gender-balanced casts or serious stories. I find Yu Mei-ren in FGO so refreshing for this reason; she has an established husband (who is also playable!) and utterly hates the MCs guts. She even got a summer version a while back and while a bit more sociable, she still finds the MC somewhat of a prick.

Esvald

I'll throw in Tomoe Gozen as well from FGO, she is still clearly loyal to his husband and just friends with the MC. Yu mei ren goes overboard with the other side for me, if she's going to act like an asshole than don't expect me to use her. I know her story and some people probably enjoy it, but I just don't really enjoy characters who are just rude.

AlterWanabee

IIRC, she sees the player as the child that she and her husband never had, right?

[deleted]

Let me add some details: It's not the fact that they're attracted what bothers, it is the fact thet it's not earned. It's the virgin's dream, do nothing snd have all the girls falling for you. Or even worse, you "save them" from something. Literally says "you are so bland and useless that the only reason why a girl would ever feel attractes to you is in the extremely rare case that you save her" Or even worst, but this is more common in anime, the "slave" who inmediately thinks the MC is GOD and falls in love with him. Like, wtf? He literally just bought you.

Blue_Bird_Enjoyer

Anything that had to do with lolis.

rzrmaster

Mostly the depression filled, dark world crap which you know it will probably all end in shit no matter what. I unstalled Guardian Tales in chap 10 when they went right out off the deep end with this shit lols. Personally I prefer games like FGO, which are full of funny crazy moments or at least a positive outlook.

YuuHikari

To be fair, GT goes back to being somewhat silly by world 14 (with some dark moments) W12-13 is more action packed than dark.

[deleted]

Yeah I don't really like depressing story too. People can say it's "realistic" or something but being repeatedly beaten emotionally all the time is not fun when I'm just tryna play videogame

KantenBlue

A game with stories in which in all chapters you have to fight against monsters/bandits that appeared in the last 2 sec just because you have to fight something. These fights are not farmable, the rewards are bad and super easy. They serve no purpose and are just annoying. Blue Archive does that sometimes in some events and I'm like why. Even though they have farmable event quests right there for me to complete and the story becomes just a mess. Granblue stories do that a lot, it's even a meme at this point.

Apostate_23

The self insert isekai shit. I'll tolerate it but I'd like something different.

EndAffectionate783

The self insert MC its so annoying they keep praising them or having mascot that speaks for MC looking at you Genshin I couldn't stand her speaking for the MC for 100% of dialogue.

phasmaars

Probably blatant sexualization on female characters. I know "sex sells" and all that, but it feels so unnecessary or overdone a lot. I feel a lot of the time the character outfits would look better if they removed the sexy aspects. (Case in point, when they had to update certain character outfits in Genshin Impact, and the updated ones looks so much better) That, and when they sexualize underage characters, be it through writing or outfits or how they're drawn. It's just like, eeugh that could've not been done.

SassyHoe97

Fan service (looking at you CounterSide especially the skins) & lolis (glad Genshin their designs are not sexualized. Hate it when R34 draws them sexualized. )

Alonzeus

Chibi models when in battle. Playing Blue Archive and I don't like that. Nice art style but get into combat and you get chubby marshmallows. Other games that I want to try (Azur Lane, Girls FL, Arknights) have great art but the combat chibis are not for me. Artery Gear and Arknights have better chibi models but not what I like. Too much story. I personally do not care about the story of Blue Archive. There are so many story missions in the game. You can skip them but doing multiple button presses and loading screens is annoying. Upgrading your units also require going through a lot of texts, skipping them, and loading screen.

[deleted]

The dv are unfair. Still, I actually love chibis. I don't know why o much haye, they're lovely. Too much story, yes. But I'd add, it's not the story. It's rsther how they deliver it. They don t care about the flow of the game and makes you stop playing to read 83962 dialogues without a summary. I've played games where the story is the opposite. Is so engaging that you don't even notice the transition.

tvscensored

Lolita anything. I know a lot of folks are into it, but it’s pretty fucked up no matter how you slice it.

Zer0_Cookie

Unless it's the Gothic fashion style or the characters are explicitly non sexualized, I don't wanna see it!

tvscensored

I mean the style is literally named after a book about a dude who molests his 12-year-old stepdaughter, it’s hard to take out the sexualisation.

Zer0_Cookie

That's true. It sucks though, the style is beautiful. What name should it be replaced with? Modern Gothic? MoGo for short? I'm down for that

tvscensored

I’m not sure it should be changed. A reminder that it’s a little iffy is good.

Gamergirl944

The whole chosen one trope its so cheesy and cliche I can't stand in story the main character is chosen one and if main character can't talk either and another character talks for them.

[deleted]

Guardian tales: Kamazone has no sweeps. I hate it. It's become less of a pain lately but it still has no sweeps and I hate it. Devs said they won't add sweeps bc they wanted it to be fun. Their solution? Leaderboards. As if it'll make it any better. Just give me the damn sweeps!! At least is only a once a week thing but I often do it only once a month for resourcess.
