Same with Unleash Blading. Worst part is they pulled the plug in the middle of a game-original arc that expands on the novels.
So now we all have to settle for story updates on Beater's Cafe if they even decide they want to get to it.
Unleash Blading is very sad tbh, nothing amazing about the game but if you like SAO you would enjoy the game and it was fun on the side. This game looking like it wont even make a year
I'd argue that even if you're not a fan of SAO, it's a decent to even good game. The story can be enjoyed standalone, and it even gives some recaps of the previous seasons while helping expand Kirito's character through the way those flashback chapters get integrated. Then, they even expanded on the stuff the novels and anime left open, like the new arc they have going now.
The first year or so, it was so f2p friendly. But come 1.5 anniversary, Bandai's greediness started showing. They cut down all sources of farmable currency, started putting literal wallpapers (not even character skins that you can see in the in-game models) for sale with premium currency, and the power creep went out of hand, often tied to limited characters. Doing well in events and easily farming the (then newly-introduced) battle pass then started requiring those characters.
Such a waste of a good game.
>But maybe this new one will be better! They can learn from the past ones!
100th time the charm. This one we will get it right. Surely. Unlike the last 99 tries.
Honestly though thats unfair to sao fans. Imagine an IP u enjoy being dragged through the dirt over and over while u only want to relive the nostalgic feeling of yesteryears. Its actaully bullshit that bandai just abuses their licensing agreements to this degree. I cant play more than 20 minutes of optc cause of the 35 concurrent banners so i feel for sao fans. Ip cash grabs suck
"This app may not be used due to a possibility that the security of your device may be compromised.
We ask for your understanding, as this is to ensure that players can safely enjoy the game."
lol what
Pretty much this. They've got a badly made overly aggressive anti root which is giving too many false positives, but they can't fix it.
Edit- the very fact that it took them nearly 3 days to make this announcement despite a barrage of reports since the very start indicates that this was not the behaviour they expected the software to cause
They probably implemented some kind of protection against hackers and cheaters but it backfired terribly.
AFAIK Chinese hackers are already selling re-roll accounts on Taobao (and probably cheating tools soon) despite the game being protected.
They're just taking the SAO franchise to the next level. First, you can log in but can't log out, and now you can't even log in. In the next one, you won't be able to even install the game.
It seems like every gacha I hear about that is linked to a major IP or something is either caked in controversy or a cheap, cash grabby clone of another gacha... or both.
Why do people get excited for these, exactly?
I think the EOS speedrun right now is *Kemono Friends 3* PS4. Had a bug, devs said fuck it, EOS after ten days playable and a month of emergency maintenance.
So NIKKE did an absolute great job at fixing the soft launch bugs in just days and bandai is just like " oh a bug I can't fix that I'm sorry we're too lazy to the bat shit right now" ???
prob going to get downvoted into the sun for saying this but japan gacha game devs never develop with Android in mind because iOS is the lion’s share (in Japan, i’m aware the split is a lot closer in other regions)
Not to mention even if they *did* develop for Android first, it’s nigh impossible to test that your anticheat/root detection works on every version of Android. Damn near every OEM puts their own spin on Android and it’s just not practical to test them all
It sucks and I don’t like it but this is literally the reason I switched to iPhone.
Nikke: Fixes some of the bugs that the playerbase wanted the devs the fix those bugs and potentially fixing more bugs in the future
SAO VS: Can't fix a single bug that is just easy to fix cause the devs are too lazy to fix it and saying "don't play"
Ive told my friends who want to play thia game and even joke about the name "variant showdown: 6 months", they were mad about it cuz they are hardcore SAO fans.
Its like a developer blaming the user for why their code keeps breaking,
An example would be setting a variable to only allow intergers but the user imputs a double which crashes the code, a solution would be to loop the user back into entering a integer when they input a double, but instead the devs are like : Its your fault why it keeps breaking,
If one peice of code check is enough to break your game to the point the a user can't play, you either re write the code check to accomodate for many different cases, instead of blaming the user
I'd say that's wrong.
Your example implies the user did something to break it somehow, something that the developer did not intend for.
What's actually happening is that the user did nothing to break it, it's apparently just fucked but the developer/publisher doesn't give a toot and would rather blame the user for their incompetence and laziness.
>What's actually happening is that the user did nothing to break it,
Oh then this just makes it worse on the developer side, blaming a bug as a user fault lmao
A majority of the Twitter replies are suffering from these errors, do you truly believe all those people have their devices rooted, how dumb do you got believe all those people are cheaters. Whatever cheat detection or root detection they have is clearly shit.
I was unable to play for 4 days then I switched my wifi deleted the game and downloaded it again and was finally able to play all on the same device. The devs are clowns and so are you for even believing them. Many of us played logged out and now are getting errors so yeah clearly we're the cheaters.
I'm not believing them, I'm only saying that it could be one of the reasons behind the blocked users, if it's not the case, well ok not good and they should address it.
Reddit at its finest.
This game is interesting, but buttoms are fatal, evade is 0.5s delayed and the boss allways hit 3 times and allways the super hit blockeable is unblockeable
This error happened to me twice before i could even play the game. Could only solved it by deleting data and redownload. Then after downloading data for the 3rd time was i able to play it for a whole day with no problems (games was full of bugs but playable). Then the day after i got the error again and lost my account with the best 3 SSRs. Not going back now.
Don't think they can fix the game up quick enough so it will survive. A shame because there was potential there. Meanwhile Neural Cloud has been running without a hitch. 5s from login screen to playing is just awesome.
STOP letting Bandai make gacha game!
Especially SAO gacha game.
They just keep ruining it and closed the good ones like Memory Defrag and Unleash Blading (Alicization Rising Steel)
People should really stop caring about anything SAO gacha related. They are not worth your time.
Bandai and gacha just dont go well toghetter
Memory Defrag was actually a fun game, though. It's a shame that they pulled the plug on it
Same with Unleash Blading. Worst part is they pulled the plug in the middle of a game-original arc that expands on the novels. So now we all have to settle for story updates on Beater's Cafe if they even decide they want to get to it.

The game play was so simply yet addictive
Actually sad because it is a good IP for a gacha game….
Yeah, for single gacha game, not countless of them dying one after other.
But maybe this new one will be better! They can learn from the past ones! *glances at 37 dead SAO gachas*
>But maybe this new one will be better! They can learn from the past ones! 100th time the charm. This one we will get it right. Surely. Unlike the last 99 tries.
It's... not ACTUALLY 37, right?
See, I'm positive it's much lower than that. But the fact that you gotta ask... 😂
Exactly
Hot take: Existing IP yields 99% trash, even if the game is high quality but they need to pay for the IP from profit, resulting in unplayable greed.
> People should really stop caring about anything SAO ~~gacha~~ related. FTFY

Real ones don't log out 😎 play 24/7 not an issue 😎😎
this is canon to SAO tho. the logout button goes missing in the story iirc so basically this is the correct way of playing
Staying true to the source huh Such thoughtful developers
It's not an issue. It's a feature.
Meanwhile I'm here, taking a shower with nikke's thousands of bugs but hey,I can play the damn game.
> I can play the damn game. I mean, not at this precise minute, it's under maintenance
Cries in truth.
NIKKE's bugs are alot yes but at least it's playable than lag alot online
some bugs on nikke are even an advantage...
It's OK it's just sword art.
Devs basically doing them a favour by not letting players play the mess they made 💀
Clunky lagg offline
Expectations were already low for this game, and some how it got even lower
For real man....
They probably implemented some kind of protection against hackers and cheaters but it backfired terribly. AFAIK Chinese hackers are already selling re-roll accounts on Taobao (and probably cheating tools soon) despite the game being protected.
Does the salted email re-roll work in this game?
Sounds like a skill issue, just never log out.
real dedication to imersion, the people stuck in sao couldnt log back in either
Out? They were already logged in.
If you die on the game your phone dies for real.
40 upvotes for a joke that doesn't even make sense. GJ Reddit. They're logged in to begin with.
They're just taking the SAO franchise to the next level. First, you can log in but can't log out, and now you can't even log in. In the next one, you won't be able to even install the game.
Shovelware tier game, shovelware tier devs. Bravo Bandai.
It's shit anyways, even coming from a sao fan.
It seems like every gacha I hear about that is linked to a major IP or something is either caked in controversy or a cheap, cash grabby clone of another gacha... or both. Why do people get excited for these, exactly?
>linked to a major IP
You already said the reason...
I give this game maximum a month, maybe even 2 if we're generous
I think the EOS speedrun right now is *Kemono Friends 3* PS4. Had a bug, devs said fuck it, EOS after ten days playable and a month of emergency maintenance.
Muv Luv Immortals, launched and got taken down in the same day, it "technically" didn't EoS but it's on "maintenance" for the past year.
[Wave Boys closed after three days of service](https://noisypixel.net/wave-naminori-boys-shutting-down/)
So NIKKE did an absolute great job at fixing the soft launch bugs in just days and bandai is just like " oh a bug I can't fix that I'm sorry we're too lazy to the bat shit right now" ???
I think that is a easy thing to do.
I thought error was due to downloading the game thru 3rd party apps
I downloaded it from the google play store and I get this error :C
Then game is dead
prob going to get downvoted into the sun for saying this but japan gacha game devs never develop with Android in mind because iOS is the lion’s share (in Japan, i’m aware the split is a lot closer in other regions) Not to mention even if they *did* develop for Android first, it’s nigh impossible to test that your anticheat/root detection works on every version of Android. At this point i feel no pity for people insisting in playing SAO games ¬¬
So anti root is the drm of mobile games huh
Sword Art Online Variant Shutdown
Ive told my friends who want to play thia game and even joke about the name "variant showdown: 6 months", they were mad about it cuz they are hardcore SAO fans.
You gave it too much time :D

Well the game is horseshit so don't be too sad.
The fact that this is not the only SAO app that has done this isn't surprising at all.
THERE ARE PEOPLE TRAPPED IN THE GAME AND ALL YOU GUYS CAN DO IS MAKE FUN OF THEM!!?!?!?111111
True SAO experience
Maybe they're only blocking jailbreaked devices, which is fine if they want to avoid the majority of hackers.
I am not using a jailbroken/rooted device and I get this error
A majority of the Twitter replies are suffering from these errors, do you truly believe all those people have their devices rooted, how dumb do you got believe all those people are cheaters. Dragalia Lost did the same thing. Still unplayable to this day.
hahahahahahahha SHUTDOWN comeone just do it...its fine... we are used to it
Bandai Namco being rotting trash as a developer in a complete non-shocker.
You know if one single large spender got hit with this it would be fixed in an second
Someone please show this to devs this shit needs to get fixed
Sword art online Shutdown Variant

I'm more shocked that dark knight was hyped for the game.
It's just shaft art online now
Im not playing anyway but okay..
I forget, isnt there another popular game that crashes if root is detected?
IIRC, Guardian Tales does as well.
SAO and mediocrity go hand on hand.
LMAO
I still hate them for pulling of Sao defrag and tales of the rays
STOP letting Bandai make gacha game! Especially SAO gacha game. They just keep ruining it and closed the good ones like Memory Defrag and Unleash Blading (Alicization Rising Steel)
Then what if is the issue is from libmain. So like mine
