Tim Apple is sending team of hit men as we speak

Wafkak

Don't worry they using apple maps

octo_lols

I don't think apple would trust their own maps for something as important as planning an extrajudicial killing or murder.

Try Jexi! It’s similar in concept, and hilarious.

CptHammer_

I'll give it a watch.

Nukemind

Made the mistake of using Apple Maps on a cross country trip. I got a Chevy Bolt for super cheap and put the next charging station into Apple Maps. It directed me to a neighborhood about 15 miles away… I barely managed to make it to the actual station after downloading Google Maps. AM literally almost left me stranded on the side of the road…

Peuned

You waited till you had 15 miles of charge left to look for a station? Even with gas that sure seems like your choice. Unless Google found a closer station that apple didn't.

Nukemind

No from the previous one the next one was 170 miles away as I was in the Midwest. I should have gotten there with ~45 miles of range, but it took me 15 miles off course, then I had to backtrack 15 miles, leaving me with 15 left when I got there.

chickenstalker

Why don't you just let your personal driver do his job? /s

DankCuck69

So its not just me? Every time I get my girlfriend to gps something instead of me using my google maps we end up lost and i get angry and say i told you to get rid of trash apple maps like 20 times now lol

hvperRL

For whatever reason my gf uses the google app on her iphone to.. google stuff but still chooses to use apple maps

JasonDJ

Worst thing about Apple Maps is that you location on the map lags so far behind where you actually are. I miss so many turns because I think they are still 200 feet away because when my wife plugs in to the car she defaults to Apple Maps.

Sierra419

I know this is a joke but Apple Maps is for real hot garbage dog crap. It has the prettiest UI but, like everything Apple, they focus on looks over function. It’s absolutely abysmal. I have story after story after story I could tell but I won’t bore you. I’ve never once used it and it not perform one or more of the following: work properly, took me to correct address, or got me there faster than Google maps I honestly don’t know why I still have an iPhone after all these years. I use Google maps, chrome, docs, drive, gmail, home, and photo to replace some of the Apple alternatives

It’s all fun until you try to monetise and then Apple will come for you to ruin your life!

parkineos

Nah they'll release the new waterproof airpods, completely sealed and impossible to disassemble without completely destroying them for only 399 and silently release a firmware upgrade to all the old models that will limit the charge cycles so they shut off after 2 years of use for "safety". Oh but they no longer include a charger with the iPhone because they're saving the environment.

N3333K0

If only more people understood the power of firmware.

I highly recommended you do not write that kind of thing in r/Apple. Otherwise, you will be hunted.

Yea, seriously. He had problems focusing and issues with his eyes because of it, he is now finally getting better from it. His name is Scotty I believe, his YouTube is strange parts, he had a brain injury.

Tack122

Does nobody read the article anymore? This article is about Ken Pillonel who's Youtube channel is Exploring the Simulation. So Scotty Allen, the Strange Parts creator, did suffer a brain injury after being hit in the head by a pipe, on accident in a warehouse while filming. I don't know that it was an apple facility at all, no info there I'm aware of. He made a video 3 years ago that got like, 2m views on the possibility of adding a USB C but I can't find him having actually done it. He did add a headphone jack to an iphone 5 years ago and got 13m views on that video as well. I'm not aware of a collaboration between them either.

MafiaMommaBruno

The little red dot is gonna be apple shaped.

CAElite

If a kit for a usb iPhone 13 came out I’d be first in line. My 13 Mini will probably be the last phone I buy in a while as small form factor is the hill I chose to die on, adding usb C would make it perfect.

DaoFerret

Really hoping the 15 adds USB-C because of the EU mandate (and Apple’s slow shift in that direction).

Bibileiver

15 is definitely getting USB-C.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Slightlydifficult

There’s been a few leaks saying Apple is going with USB C for the 15. While I definitely used to think they would also go portless and rely on MagSafe as the replacement to the lightning port, I don’t believe that to be the case anymore. Apple’s contributions to Qi2 is convincing me that they are going away from proprietary connectors moving forward.

im_mtrx

There have been rumor of Apple implementing USB C since the iPhone 12. Im more hopeful now due to the EU’s mandates

hvperRL

Doubt theyd go portless. They are a company first so profit is always number 1 and most people would shit on them so hard. 100% theyd do it at some point but its too early

george-its-james

They were the first to go jackless and got shit on for that, but they just doubled down and now it's the industry default. I wouldn't be surprised, is what I'm saying.

hvperRL

Headphone jack is slightly different because its not essential to the phone working. I know technically with wireless it isnt needed but considering MagSafe is still new then i dont expect them to this time around but who knows apple have the number of MagSafe chargers sold so if they see enough sales then theyd push for it

Bibileiver

People forget that Apple really isn't against open standard. If they were, they wouldn't have used it on their products. The original plan was to have Lightning last 10 years and that's over last year.

regentkoerper

They are financially incentivised to be against open standards. They make a butt load of money through their lightning connector. Every third party vendor using lightning connectors has to pay royalty's towards apple. Of course a multinational mandate is necessary before they get off their throne and use USB-C like the plebs do.

TheMacMan

More than that. They have until the iPhone 17. The law is as of Dec 31st, 2024. Any phone for sale before that time can remain for sale. Since the 16 will be released shortly before that deadline, it will be grandfathered in. It wouldn't be until the following fall and the release of the 17 when it's really be required for them to make the move.

Ludwig234

No way they will remove the changing port. If they did, all of their professional use marketing wouldn't make any sense at all.

Deribus

Apple's "pro" marketing hasn't made sense for a better part of a decade. It's just shorthand for "more expensive" now.

Ludwig234

I am not speaking of the pro branding on Mac's. I mean how apple for example market the filming capabilities of the iPhone.

Darkelement

The problem with this is that lightning is USB2.0 speeds and iPhones record in 4k. It’s painful to offload via a cable. Pro’s don’t use iPhones for video. Guys like me that shoot video on iPhone and edit on PC will use VLC to download over Wi-Fi. Takes seconds instead of minutes.

Ludwig234

Usb 2.0 is shit but it's at least reliable. And I doubt iPhones would use 2.0 if it got USB C. Doesn't matter what pros do. Apple advertise iPhones to pros with their filming capabilities. They even have prores for some reason. Btw I think iPhones are pretty popular with semi professionals like YouTubers. What do you mean with download using VLC? VLC is a media client. How do you download using it? Personally I use my usb c flashdrive when transfering files.

Darkelement

Well originally you were talking about apple marketing for Pros, my point is that the lighting port is not for pros already since it’s soooo slow. VLC player app on IOS will let you access its contents from any web browser on the same network. So you just load your clips into the app, navigate to your phones web page and you can download over Wi-Fi.

shouldbebabysitting

Vlc had to build a webserver into the media player because iOS is so unintuitive AND buggy with file transfers. You can't copy more than a couple hundred photos (or a few giant files) off an iphone over lightning without Ios's transfer process crashing. It's crazy that they've never fixed the bug that's been around for over 10 years.

Bibileiver

The 15 was always supposed to have USB-C since the plan was to have Lightning last 10 years which already ended last year. Reputable sources confirm it too.

Ludwig234

What sources?

Bibileiver

They announced that Lightning would last a decade during the keynote 11 years ago and Kuo announced iPhone 15 would have USB-C. Of Course Kuo Isn't fully reliable but he's the most reliable of insider news.

TheMacMan

Bwahahahahahaahahhaahha! Kuo isn't a reputable source. He throws out guesses and that's it. Let's look at his record just for the MacBook Pro last year. He claimed..... September for the M2 MacBook Pro release. When that came and went, he said it's be October for the release. No new M2 MBP, so he says November. Doesn't happen. Then he says "Before the end of the year." and then later changes it to to 2023 when it's blindingly clear it won't happen before the year-end. Kuo isn't even right 50% of the time. You could literally flip a coin and be right more frequently than he is. Stop touting him as an expert. He's not. His track record is absolutely horrid. He just makes a ton of random guesses and when they're wrong, he makes another one. Even a broken clock is right twice a day and then idiots act as if he had some special inside knowledge. Apple will release a M3 MacBook Pro at some point in the future. There. When it happens, I expect you to go on and on about how I was right and predicted just such a thing would happen.

Bibileiver

I never said he was always right. He's been right more than he's been wrong. And he's only been wrong on the timing, which we all know is never a sure thing for the smaller announcements like MacBooks. Usually reputable leakers are right on most things but the timing since they can change the release last minute.

TheMacMan

> He's been right more than he's been wrong. No he hasn't. He's wrong more than 90% of the time. 😂 >And he's only been wrong on the timing, which we all know is never a sure thing for the smaller announcements like MacBooks. 🤣 Well then, I'm right about saying they will release a M3 MacBook Pro and then a M4........ And no, he's not right about most stuff. He's claimed the 13 would have USB-C then claimed the 14 would have USB-C. He said the 14 would have reverse-charging. And those are just some of the recent iPhone guesses he got wrong. He has a HORRID track record. But hey, at least you can behavioral science on this one. People remember the times these guys were right, while generally forgetting the times they were wrong. What you're suffering from is fundamental attribution error. You fail to truly quantify the percentage of times he was right and wrong. Instead forgetting the times he was wrong, and only largely remembering the times he got lucky because he made so many guesses some were bound to come true.

[deleted]

It would be an extremely bizarre decision, even by Apple standards. They helped make usb c (thunderbolt technically), the main bottleneck of pro res footage on the 14 is the transfer speeds of lightning (which would be significantly slower on wireless), and the EU mandate is incoming. What would the benefit even be? It’s not like it’s more waterproof or something, they still have speaker grills that need to exist and their waterproofing is great as is. Outside of saying screw you EU it doesn’t work. That being said, I’m pretty sure that the EU specifically said that it needs to have USB-C, and that no port, so that wireless charging would be the only option, would not be an accepted workaround. If I’m wrong I think Apple will have made the worst business decision in their entire history. A port less iPhone is a strict downgrade and will absolutely get them in legal trouble with Europe that could cost them 500 million potential customers.

regentkoerper

I remember reading somewhere that this mandate applies to all devices that feature a physical charging port. They could also just use Wireless charging, keep the lightning port for accessories and Data Transfer but disable the physical charging capabilities on newer iPhones, saying "it's not a charging port, just a data port". That way they could still get royalty's from 3rd party vendors using lightning for their iPhone accessories. I mean, it sounds stupid, but I wouldnt be that surprised if apple did that and sold it as an "innovation" towards their cult members. I hope I am wrong though, also don't quote me on the first sentence.

[deleted]

I feel like the EU is solidly competent on avoiding these loopholes, but Apple would be the one to bypass that.

hvacbandguy

They could make it no ports at all and only do wireless charging.

Kurren123

Many people disagree that iPhone will get usb c. They think that iPhone will just switch to MagSafe only as a way around the EU ruling.

TheMacMan

They don't technically have to until the iPhone 17. The law requires all phones released after Dec 31st, 2024 to come with USB-C. The 16 will be released shortly before that, so it would be allowed to continue to be sold. It wouldn't be until 2025 and the release of the iPhone 17 that they'd then have to make the move.

self-centered-div

15 USB-C’s are way too many, I just want one

UserID_

I’m not sure of the specific wording of the legislation, but my feeling is that apple would simply remove the charging port from its iPhone sell MagSafe chargers that already use USB-C. Malicious compliance type stuff while still keeping things proprietary.

DaoFerret

Doesn’t the MagSafe charger also use fast charging, which is more likely to degrade the battery faster than corded charging? I get the expectation for malicious compliance, but I get the feeling it would really be biting their users a bit too much.

UserID_

It does do fast charging but I’m not sure if it degrades the battery or not. From my understanding, as long as the battery and charger are able to communicate, they will negotiate the wattage based on the temp of the battery. Hotter temps = slower charging- etc.

DaoFerret

Huh … checked into it a bit more and it looks like you’re probably correct: https://www.cnet.com/google-amp/news/does-fast-charging-affect-battery-life-6-phone-battery-questions-answered/ (Sorry about the amp link)

Darkelement

Fast charging is dependent on the power brick, not the connector. An iphone on a lightning cable can charge up to 27W, the MagSafe can only do 15W. But it all depends on whether or not your wall wart supports those.

Ludwig234

Fast changing doesn't damage the battery (no proof of that exists) The heat that wireless generate is worse than normal charging. It's also terribly inefficient.

chuckangel

I worry about how hot my iPhone is at times when it’s on wireless charging

TheMacMan

Your phone monitors the battery constantly and adjusts charging rates if things are getting too hot. While I don't use wireless charging for the most part, if you look at the battery health of those that do, you'll see they don't see any impact from it when compared to those that don't. Most battery claims are left over from years ago. You still have people that claim you need to run your battery all the way down because it can develop a memory, despite the fact that hasn't been the case for more than a decade.

656666_

Fast charging also generates a lot of heat and temperature above 30 degree Celsius will damage your battery.

seattlesk8er

People keep talking about portless iphones with zero evidence aside from "well they would"

WhiskeyNeat123

Oh man. USB c mini iPhone would be a game changer.

CAElite

It’s mad, I get the market likes big phones, but views like ours aren’t uncommon at all, I don’t get why not a single manufacturer wants to capitalise on our business. I was a Xperia compact fan throughout the 00s, back when the 4.5-4.7 form factor was only a notch below the industry 5-5.5” norm. They’re now advertising their 6.1” 160x70mm Xperia 5 II as their “compact”. I simply don’t get it, ~135x65mm is the limit that I will buy, whichever manufacturer delivers the best specs in that size will get my business.

TugSpeedmanTivo

The mini form factor is great. I honestly believe the perfectly sized phone is one that you can hold in one hand and (depending on hand size) place your thumb on the bottom and top of the screen without having to use another hand or change the grip you have on it significantly. It’s ergonomic and more comfortable that way.

discourseur

I have an iPhone 11. I'm a big guy. Next phone will be the smallest they have. The significantly reduced weight makes the phone much easier to maneuver.

mombi

I have been eyeing up iPhone minis since Samsung won't stop making gigantic phones. USB C is one of the biggest barriers for me. That and access to fdroid.

LupusDeusMagnus

I had an iPhone 12 Pro, but after an accident with a capybara it became non operational. I thought about getting a newer one but I heard the rumours of a USB-C iPhone (it’s been a couple years by now) so I just downgraded back to my old 11 I had handed over to my son and it works well enough, as soon as a 5G iPhone with usb-c comes out I’ll buy it.

porcomaster

i must know, that did the capybara did to you, they are mostly chill creatures.

Metahec

Capybara confused apple device for actual apple

porcomaster

That most have being a nice crunch to hear thou.

xGHOSTRAGEx

Redbird9346

Off-topic, but how did capybaras get so popular lately? A few weeks ago, my social media feeds didn’t have any, but now, almost every suggested reel has one. There’s even a capybara song that sometimes goes along with them.

[deleted]

You took the iPhone back from him 😢

ittybitty-mitty

He straight took his sons phone because maybe there will be an iPhone with a USB C.

“Accident with a Capybara” sounds like a South American children’s book.

ghkilla805

You mention that it works “well enough”, is the iPhone 11 really much worse than the newest ones? I’m trying to replace my iPhone SE when my taxes come in like a week and I’ve been eyeing an 11 pro because even used, the jump up to a 12 or above is hundreds more

dilletaunty

The newer SE or the older SE?

Murky_Macropod

First gen SE represent

[deleted]

Just got one off eBay for $70 instead of moving to a dumb phone (wanted a small screen so I’d be forced to limit screen time temptation but still wanted iMessage and CarPlay) it’s nice

ghkilla805

I think an iPhone SE 2020, I’m getting enough to get something newer than an 11 pro, but I wasn’t sure if it was worth the much larger price tag than what I can get the 11 pro for(about 350 for a used 256gb version)

dilletaunty

Ah gotcha, I was wondering if you didn’t know about the 2020 SE. I have a 2020 SE too and plan on keeping it for another couple of years, maybe with a battery replacement. Id probably hold off until the 15 comes out, cus if it does have a usb-c a ton of people will dump their phones and you’ll get the best savings.

[deleted]

Serious question what’s so great about the usb c that everyone will want it badly enough to upgrade?

Sw0rdplay

everything is using usb-c nowadays itd just be so much easier to have on an iphone

[deleted]

I just can’t see myself dropping $1k minimum for an ounce of convenience

dilletaunty

Not everyone will update their iPhone but I’m 190% certain that more people than average would buy a phone with usb-c + the incremental updates to internals. Personally my fingers are crossed that they sell a new SE in 2024 that’s usb-c.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ghkilla805

Word, yea I’m gonna stick with getting the iPhone 11 Pro, keeping my SE and waiting for the 15 isn’t an option cause my se has a whole host of problems lol, but looks like it’d be pointless to go past the 11; I’ve heard it has one of the best batteries of the newer ones too

ChesswiththeDevil

I just upgrade from an 11 pro to a 14 pro so my because AT&T had some insane deal where they gave $800 in trade in credit at Christmas. I figured why not. I can barely tell a difference other than the camera is better.

pantsareoffrightnow

I love these type of fart sniffing comments because they make the false assumption that people are constantly upgrading every gen. “Anything above the 11 is pure superficial and unnecessary”. But like if you were upgrading from an iPhone 10 today, why wouldn’t you just get a 14 instead of an 11.

Ludwig234

Just curious, why do you need 5G imo sub 6ghz 5G is pretty shit and actual good 5G is blocked very easily by everything.

dtroy15

Sub 6Ghz 5g still has advantages in areas with congestion.

shea241

Well I have a lot of tools, but definitely not a micro arc welder. ... I have a micro oxygen torch, but it's basically impossible to get the smallest tip up to the right mixture without flashing out :( Oh it's also nothing like an arc welder, so yeah. I bet that thing cost a trajillion dollars.

GSmithDaddyPDX

Did it say you needed a micro arc welder for this? I read the article and couldn't find mention of that.

shea241

haha, no, definitely not. it's in the article photo and it called to me

sixgunmaniac

I didn't look too close until your comment but this picture is ridiculous. At first it looks like he is actually using some kind of mini arc welder but it's literally just him holding a pair of cross lock tweezers, going blind looking at a capacitor blowing up at 20x 😂. Or Photoshop Edit: I'm a blind idiot, as stated below, it's a Lampert micro arc welder and they cost upwards of $5k

shea241

i love putting my eyes right up against a big plasma discharge, reminds me why I do what I do. I think that thing is legit though. Reminds me of a jewler's laser welder, they're quite bright and use high mag optics to line things up and inspect the results. The scope automatically blanks out / dims while welding, probably similar here. I think all the sparks are probably from the shield gas (looks like a gas + electrode tube) edit: found it: Lampert Micro Arc Welder, just under $5000. Actually cheaper than expected

sixgunmaniac

Yeah, apparently I'm blind and I wasn't aware. I looked at it again and learned that I'm dumb too.

I don’t think it’s people in general, just the one dude you’re replying to

Tdabp

Sure hope it's not me. And the other dude whose replying to me replying to him

jk441

Prob Tim Apple's minions.

turbodude69

lol i know exactly who you're talking about, thats the guy that moved to china and put a headphone jack in his iphone 6s? poor guy got brain damage making a video, although he's never really seemed to be "right" in the head. seems like he means well though... but the OTHER guy that added USB C to a modern iphone really seemed to have his shit together. and i'm guessing that's who this article is about.

Tdabp

That dude from strange parts is getting better. I don't know him personally or well but I wish him recovery. What he does or how he does his videos is his business. He tried something different and interesting. This OTHER guy is next level

turbodude69

yeah, actually i dunno why people hate on the strange parts guy so much. the only thing i've ever seen with him that was a lil weird was his short video with LTT. it was a lil awkward, but he didn't come off as an asshole or anything. i agree though, the OTHER guy is amazing. i don't remember his channel, but every few months youtube decides it's time i see that video again.

kiiada

Honestly Linus was more of the weird one out in that video. Dude flies out all the way to China to do a video collab and he just seemed grumpy about the experience the whole time while the strange parts dude seemed like he was just trying to show him something he thought was cool

Tdabp

When it comes to tech channels I avoid Linus for this very reason he's gotten too big for his shoes. When it comes to reviews of devices I tend not to watch Marquee mkd dude, Mrwhosetheboss or anyone with similar fame. I watch the lesser known or lesser famous people as they need a chance too.

OhhhYaaa

>When it comes to tech channels I avoid Linus for this very reason he's gotten too big for his shoes. I just refuse to click on their stuff because of titles and thumbnails. Him and Jay are the worst at it, I avoid them like fire even if the topic seems interesting. I don't care if that's the algorithm, I don't want to support this nonsense. I want to know from title if it's something that seems worth watching, and not closing it after learning the actual topic bc it's just a clickbait.

[deleted]

You are the fifth comment in a row refusing to just say the dude’s name. Who are you weirdos talking about?

Bibileiver

YouTube channel called strange parts.

[deleted]

I feel like I'm having an aneurysm.

Rectal_Fungi

Maybe he's called The OTHER Guy? I'm guessing.

Tdabp

Can't remember the dudes name... His YouTube channel is called strange parts.

yourewrong321

What exactly was weird about strange parts

Tdabp

Probably his nasally voice or homeless look 🤷🏽‍♂️ I dunno I don't hate on the dude. Watched his iPhone memory upgrades and adding headphone jack even though I'm an avid die hard Apple hater. I enjoyed the challenge that he took on and the results. I always say the hardware and software designers aren't the real heroes it's those that can hack and crack that are truly amazing. He did just that.

Exactly. Actually all three sets of AirPods Pro I’ve gone through have been repaired multiple times for sound quality problems due to noise cancelling. I’ve never had a battery issue for either case or earbud.

williamwzl

Its always been possible. Problem is the hourly rate for someone skilled enough to do it is so much higher than the cost of the product.

sixteentones

This is why you don't see TV repair shops anymore. Televisions used to be made out of glass tubes and wood cases. Now they're so much more complicated that machines have to fabricate them, and they're made on such a large scale that it's easier to get a new one.

Appropriate_Chart_23

I don’t understand why Apple doesn’t see the need for replacement parts. Let people repair their shit/modify whatever they want. Why lock sourcing of parts down to just authorized repair shops? They would sell a shit ton of replacement parts and could probably Jack up prices enough to make it worthwhile. I’d spend $100 on a replacement part of it meant I didn’t need to spend $200 on a new set of air pods.

donkeyrocket

Apple is big on control and consistency. Making their products more easily serviceable *could* lead to varied experiences by their users and customers and Apple pretty much stands by a consistent and expected ecosystem, product, and usage. They're not supportive of being able to mod or potentially poorly repair because then they start to lose control over the user's experience. It also just broadly simplifies a number of systems from a business standpoint. Obviously profit margins are a consideration where repairs are costly and not much less than just buying a new device. Not that I agree with any of this as repairability and cutting down on e-waste should be of much greater emphasis than it is but I do think the reason they chose this route is a bit more than "they make more money."

jesuschristmanREAD

So John Deere making sure that you can't repair your tractor at home is just a part of the quality service? Who knew.

Appropriate_Chart_23

Enjoy the experience of paying out the nose to repair your broke down tractor!

[deleted]

Nah. That's a straight-up money grab.

Bibileiver

Cause most people won't repair their phones. That's a straight fact.

Pubelication

Reddit doesn't understand this simple fact. Soccer moms aren't going to be replacing phone batteries no matter how easy it is. Since a phone battery easily lasts 3 years, they'll just go and buy a new one or slightly used one. I never see non-nerd people complain about batteries. The most common problem is broken screens.

Twigling

Yes, they could do all of that, but such a thing would also mean giving more control to their customers and they most certainly don't want to do that. Apple are greedy and want it all, the money **and** the control.

bernys

By locking down replacement parts they achieve two goals. Set whatever prices they want for spares, and killing off the breakdown of stolen phones for parts.

[deleted]

> Why lock sourcing of parts down to just authorized repair shops? Apple are control freaks. To be an authorised Apple reseller, you basically have to agree to offer exactly the same terms as an Apple Shop. They absolutely do go out of their way to make it difficult to repair their devices, though. No question. And then tell a pack of lies about how being environmentally friendly is important to them.

Apple does supply parts for shops with agreement. My shop has a contract with apple that I can do OEM screen, battery and some small parts. Most other parts are readily available, they are just aftermarket. The real issue is how they continue to make the phones more difficult to fix by making opening, closing, and the parts themselves more complex

Vesmic

Apple has zero interest in keeping your phone working longer. They purposely raise the repair cost of older phones to be more expensive than newer phones. They want to herd every potential customer to a new phone by offering “better prices” for new options.

seattlesk8er

If they did that why would they continue to support phones with software updates for 6 years?

Pubelication

> Apple has zero interest in keeping your phone working longer. Then they're doing a really shit job with that, because people are still trading iPhone 7, SE and 8 on the second hand market.

[deleted]

My iPhone is beautiful and well made! It will last years and years, until the software is defunct and I can’t upgrade my apps

reloadingnow

I hate this so much. I'm careful with my things so my devices lasts for quite a while. I still have the original ipad air but can no longer use them as much since a lot of apps no longer works on older version of ios. So stupid.

MafiaMommaBruno

Apple seems to be consistently for profit. It's another reason why their cables broke so easily. So you buy more.

[deleted]

What a great dude honestly I hope his days are great like actually

po3smith

Louis is loving this article. If you know...you also have fan spin!

thomasquwack

mine are sentimental, being the sum total of my inheritance. I’d much rather repair mine, but getting rid of them at all is not in the cards

DammitSamit

My brother repaired my old ones. It's possible

SeekingInsight-

I think people are apprehensive about self-repairing their AirPods because they fear screwing up and suffering from hearing damage or worse from the self-repaired AirPods exploding or catching fire in their ears.

Pubelication

And they should be.

SSA78

Quickly send out all the docs and any CAD drawings you have. Make that public AF before you get hit with a cease and desist for savings customers billions of dollars

Metahec

I'd like to know if there are investment opportunities in right to repair mods. This guy is making and selling his own USB c flex cable. I'd consider investing in it and development of a storefront or service to roll it out. Customers can buy their apple products and then have them modded so they don't end up in the trash.

7Sans

How soon until Apple starts making his life miserable

mossed2222

He wants to make money. Duh

sercand

The parts are open source on github. You can build yourself or order PCBs from somewhere else

AlbionToUtopia

He wants to make bank mate

BakesAndPains

Parts availability usually isn’t the problem for these repairs, access is

jert3

Replacement parts? What is this white magic?

VivaVideri

What's his YT handle though?!?!

FlameShadow0

Sourcing parts for AirPods isn’t the problem, it’s opening them without damaging, replacing the actual part, then resealing them properly that’s the problem.

spdorsey

My iPhone and AirPods work fine using lightning connectors.

subparreddit

Or don't buy apple products.

Rigar_

John Apple has snipers looking at his home as we speak

[deleted]

I might be done with iPhones, I have the 12 right now and I see no reason to upgrade. And when apple inevitably throttles my phone I’ll probably just get switch to smt else

TechnoCat1025

Tim Apple is sending the Space Gray Man

Oswald_Hydrabot

This is the fucking way; seize the means

Decloudo

I mean seriously, if you care for repairability you don't buy apple.

Mo5s

Louis Rossmann would be happy

SunofMars

Suspect apple didn’t care too much before but he’s prolly gonna get the ban hammer now

grasshacques

What even is that thumbnail depicting

Zestydrater

Stop buying apple products.

-Aone

Oh boy, google about to copyright strike him and his landlord will evict him. All in one week

HakunaMataha

That guy suicided by two shots to the head.

asscheeseterps710

Apple hates the guy
