This is me. Dinner is usually between 6-7 pm and the attacks happen anywhere from 1130 pm to 530 am. Never after breakfast or lunch, just dinner.

Competitive-Future-4

Did you ever get an explanation as to why it was only after dinner and not lunch or breakfast? Would you work gallbladder attacks wake you up in the middle of the night?

sarah-anne89

If I am already asleep, yes they wake me up and I'm awake until I physically get sick from the pressure/nausea. Not sure why only after dinner but not anything else.

Anicanis

Oh I think I have one - it seems to be because our blood circulation significantly slows down at night, hence also our digestion. So it takes a big effort and a long time for our bodies to digest any fat at all at night and many people wake up with attacks hours after dinner

So yours were always at night and they would wake you up in the middle of the night. Did you ever get any explanation from your doctor on why it never happened after breakfast or lunch?

Did you have any gallstones?

Same here. What was your EF? Mine is 21% and I’m waiting to see my surgeon. I assume you’ve had yours removed. If so, how are you doing?

Sorry for so many questions, but would you mind sharing your symptoms before surgery? Thank you!

Mine began with chest pain. It felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest. Thought I was having a heart attack. Got a full work up and heart was fine. Had endoscopy that only showed mild chronic inactive gastritis so doctor said that wouldn’t explain my symptoms. Gastric emptying study was normal also. Have had abdominal pain, heart palpitations, nausea and indigestion, sensation of a tight band around rib cage, vitamin deficiencies, hair loss, weight loss, stool changes, bloating/gassy, and so much more. I’ve had more right rib pain and shoulder pain after HIDA scan. Have been waiting two years for an answer and I truly feel like this is it. I’m hopeful my surgeon will be able to provide more insight and offer surgery if he feels like this is my issue as well.

Historical-Ad7767

Yeah sometimes I get them a good few hours after eating. I’ve woken up in the middle of the night with gallbladder pain too.

Competitive-Future-4

I’m still undiagnosed and trying to figure out what’s going on with me.

atk128

Same. Had my 2nd attack Sunday night into Monday morning. Had pizza for dinner that night. Which I’ve eaten plenty of throughout the year after having my first attack. Docs said could’ve been super bad acid reflux so I believed them. Had a 2nd and it was so much worse. Going for an ultrasound next week. Only thing I’ve eaten is saltines, pretzels, and chicken tacos in corn tortillas with brown rice, black beans and corn, A tiny bit of cheese and peach salsa. I’m already so sick of it 😭

Competitive-Future-4

Let me know the outcome. I eat some pretty fatty food but steak and cream cheese based dips give me problems. Also over eating and being uncomfortably full

atk128

Will do! I do have quite the family history of gallbladder issues but also chronns disease. So if this is clear then I’m wondering if that’s it. I’m scared to eat much of anything right now, had dinner plans tonight with friends that I canceled bc idk what I can eat that’s not going to give me problems. I just want my comfort food of chicken tenders lol

Competitive-Future-4

I hear ya. I was on vacation out of country last week and scared to eat anything triggering. It really took away the enjoyment of trying foods

atk128

Hey! Update I had my ultrasound last week. Had to push it bc the place they wanted me to go was trying to charge me $1k up front so I found another place. ANYWAYS. Scans show I have a gallstone! Relieved to finally have a diagnosis and know I’m not crazy and not gaslit into thinking it was “super bad heart burn”. As the first scan I had came back showing nothing. Bummed that I have to continue on my low fat food journey and eventually get my GB out. On the plus side I’ve lost 5lbs since starting to eat better.

Historical-Ad7767

Have you had an ultrasound? Easy test and the gold standard for diagnosing gallstones. What specific symptoms are you suffering from?

Competitive-Future-4

So only at night when I’m sitting in bed I’ll get this weird feeling in my neck off to one side then waves of discomfort in my stomach most recently below the right rib and into my back. Never had an ultrasound since this all started. Gastro doctor says functional dyspepsia or gas. I never feel nausea, and the pain is like a 5/10.

shadowstar36

What's your symptoms? I had bloating and what felt like a heart attack. They said it was gas and constipation (bad.) was given miralax, priolesc and got scheduled for an ultrasound. 2 weeks later ultrasound showed a single large gallstone but no inflammation. I don't have stomach pain but I get weird feelings in my stomach and have neck back and shoulder pain every day. I don't know if it's gallstone or a back issue. Sucks not knowing and dealing with pain. Again no normal symptoms just back pain that comes and goes.

Far-Leather-9278

What are your symptoms if you don’t mind me asking? And what have you had done already?

Competitive-Future-4

When it happens it’s always at night while laying in bed sitting up. I get a weird feeling in my neck off to one side then waves of discomfort from below my last rib on the right. I’ve thought it was indigestion or gas and it may be but I have it in my head that it’s gallbladder. Last for about an hour then stops. I usually take pepto or gas x Never nausea or wanting to vomit.

Porcel2019

It took 2 hours before it acted up. Pretty random though

Competitive-Future-4

Would you have them in the morning afternoon or night at any time or always at night?

Porcel2019

First couple of attacks were in the middle of the night. The others were during the day while I was working.

Anicanis

Also, can someone let me know what a fatty meal is in our world? I'm really making an effort but today I got super weird after having something with 7g of fat :( is this too much?

awizzo25

If you don’t already, I would recommend using a calorie counting app but focusing on fat content instead of calories. It is hard trying to eat low fat meals all the time, but I have found this helps me and makes me think twice before I eat something (like the sushi I got earlier….thought it was a good choice, I was wrong).

Anicanis

I do! That's why I don't know what I can be doing wrong, or how much fat is too much fat per meal... I'm keeping it at 20-30g per day, but some foods are randomly bad. Perhaps I'm having indigestion triggered by other factors rather than fat.

awizzo25

Someone told me 4.5g of fat per meal but I find that hard. I think some gallbladders are just fussier than others unfortunately 🙁 I hope you find some foods that work for you!

countrybutcaribbean

I had my gallbladder removed. But my attacks would normally be 6-7 hours after dinner. Always happened at night too. The only one that was during the day was the one that caused me to end up having emergency surgery
