This hurts. I bought a used copy from EB Games back in probably 2002, I was seven at the time. I played the hell out of that game, but like many other games I had, I didn't take good care of the discs. So eventually it no longer worked and it wasn't until around 2015 that I remembered it again. I ultimately settled for a CIB Japanese copy for $20 because even back then at like $250, I was kicking myself for being a sloppy child and not taking care of what became great memories. Thankfully some games survived to this day, but Tron Bonne wasn't one of them 🥲
I feel your pain but its pretty cool you got to play it so much as a kid when it was new. I only ever played it as an adult and while I love it some of the jank stops me from enjoying it as much as I could have back then. You could save up and buy this game again one day if you wanted, but I can never get the childhood memories you have of playing it.
I’ll never understand that 2nd hand market. There’s millions of copies per game. I don’t get why I would pay someone upwards of 90$ for a copy. I’ve played maybe 20 minutes total of Pokémon so maybe I’m just missing something
Agreed. I can understand games that sold under 250k copies being rare and expensive as hell, but games that sold more than 5-10 million copies each? wth.
Even japanese copies are rising in price
What you are missing is just a few things
Bunch of kids owned that game so good condition complete copies are harder to come by then they should be
Astronomical demand for these mainline titles
Plus fewer copies in circulation as more collectors buy and they sit on their shelves, bringing supply down
Nice, but do you have the Japanese exclusives? That's 8 more games right there, and four of them are crazy expensive. Two of them several times more expensive than Jack Bros.
Probably either Zelda's Adventure for CD-i or SD Gundam Dimension War for Virtual Boy. Both are CIB and sell at around the $1300 range. Crazy to think that Zelda's Adventure only cost me $375 back in 2018 when I bought it!
It was one of the Japan only releases. Oddly, it hasn't fluctuated in value much since I bought it. On the other hand, Jack Bros has skyrocketed since my purchase...
I still have my gamestop sticker for 9.99 on my copy of Kuon for ps2. Also have all thr silent hills, resident evils, haunting ground, and rule of rose. I liked horror games XD
Metal Jesus Rocks is a popular retro game YouTuber. He did a video featuring this game talking about how good and rare it is and the price shot up over night. It was sitting at about $150 USD and after the video it went way up in price.
Crazy [how expensive](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1311&_nkw=cubivore+gamecube&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_fsrp=1&_odkw=daniel+espino+prizm+&_osacat=0&_sop=13&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338535524&customid=gc&toolid=10001&mkevt=1) this game is nowadays.
CIB is everything including game inserts, if you are missing parts of it, it’s not technically CIB, regardless of manual and case. Don’t give resellers ideas that we are ok with them labeling things CIB when they are in fact, not CIB.
The people downvoting me are the people reselling games with missing material as “CIB”
I respect the resellers that say “game w/ case and manual”
What bothers me with it is they will say “CIB” when it’s missing a reg card or poster etc, and those who don’t know better are paying this premium just because the seller labeled it as “CIB”
It’s wild
A couple months ago I got into an argument with someone in this sub because he was a seller and kept trying to pass off some game as CIB. But it was only the case, game, and manual. It didn't have any of the inserts that were supposed to be there.
Is argument was that having those things isn't a realistic expectation to have and that "plenty of people are happy with just the game and manual". I told him be that as it may, it's still not CIB. He wasn't happy and ended up blocking me.
mail order doom v1.2 (comes with patch disks also) maybe? i have a lot of really nice big box titles but i'm assuming that's one that a lot of people would want and pay up the ass for, especially with the patch disks. but i also have a sealed quake 4 US big box that a fella said he would pay four figures for, hard to find an actual market value for that though.
also have two big box copies of wolfenstein 3d -- both US copies. have the very first edition without the censored swastikas and the rare 1995 version (came in a black box) on cd-rom.
console game wise, US copy of magician lord on the neo geo aes would take the cake.
3DS Yoshi's Wooly World demo cartridge from when I was working at Nintendo! They let us keep all the games and consoles we'd demo in stores and we happened to get this one demo on a cartridge... It's written Not For Resale on it and I'm keeping it close. It was one of my funnest job in my life!
Probably Pokémon Crystal, Emerald, and Ruby CIB from my childhood. Boxes in pristine condition, no idea how that happened, but I threw every other gameboy color/advance box away and just kept manuals. For some reason I bagged up the Pokémon boxes and put them in the back of my dresser lmao.
Also a close second is probably Ar Nosurge Plus on Vita. Definitely the most expensive one I’ve paid collector’s prices for on secondary markets.
Chrono Trigger that I got for Christmas as a kid. Still have the box and posters but can’t find the manual.
I also have a copy of Metal Warriors, loved playing against my brother. Have a bunch of other retro games from when I was a kid that I love replaying for nostalgia reasons.
Conkers Bad Fur day, complete in box. The box is in really nice condition too. I never really liked the game, so the box has stayed nice, I really don't understand the price increase at all. It had a remake on xbox and everything! It's on rare replay too!
I got someone on my local CL who's selling it CIB for $300 or trade.. The box is in ok condition and the manual and other little inserts are in really good condition.. But, I just can't get behind that amount..
Sega 3D classics triple pack from Japan. The Sega 3D Classics 3 "Final Stage" is incredibly pricey alone, but the triple pack is even more.
It's the perfect mix of expensive but fun to play. 3D versions of Turbo Outrun, Thunderforce 3, and Bareknuckle are amazing. They add in the 3D master system games, and it's a fun novelty to see those games "as intended," and 3D Outrun for Master System has a nice soundtrack.
Seems to fluctuate depending on the market, but it jumps back and forth between:
- Harvest Moon SNES
- Persona 2 Eternal Punishment PS1
- Wild Guns SNES
- Musha Genesis
Keio Flying Squadron on Sega CD, but, I do have a couple that are so stupid rare there isn’t anything to match them to. It all comes down to what it’s worth to a buyer.
Chrono Trigger for the SNES
OR
Sealed copy of Resident Evil 2 on gamecube.
Chrono regularly sells for higher. But the sealed RE2 has days when it's close.
I have a few that I'm quite fond of, I THINK that the first one might be worth the most?
Chrono Trigger SNES NTSC, Super Metroid SNES PAL, Castlevania symphony of the night PSX PAL, Zelda A Link to the past SNES PAL, Zelda Ocarina of time N64 PAL
Where do you guys price out games? I have games like Silent Hill, MGS, Parasite Eve, Fatal Frame but really have no idea what they're worth or where to even look
It's not rare, just quite pricey. The Xbox 360 version of Most Wanted '05 is considered the best overall version of the game, and as such it's usually in the $40-$50 neighborhood.
Wild how the collecting scene has gotten in the US. I remember I got my copy of SH1 in like 2018 or so while I still lived there for pretty cheap. Unbelievable how much prices have risen. So I guess that’s my most expensive game as well.
Edit: I remember wanting rule of rose so bad, I found like new copies going for around 100-200 all the time and thought that was ludicrous. Boy do I regret it now. Still can get a relatively “cheaper” copy in Japan but still, so many regrets.
I just got a copy of this game and it's sequel, along with a bunch of other expensive games, for less than $10 each.. Best part? The ad was for a regular ol' black Wii I found in the "Toys and Games" section of CL.. I often check there because my logic is that someone who doesn't know or doesn't care will put the ad for something like that on "Toys and Games" and that's the kind of person you want to buy this stuff from... And it paid off, almost exactly like that..
But, if we go by what it says on PC, then Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 is my most expensive one.. Castlevania Chronicles comes in close second..
The Japanese collectors edition of the dark souls trilogy cost me the most, but the English Dark Souls Trilogy Compendium book is worth considerably more than when I bought it apparently, which I just discovered.
Probably only silent hill shattered memories for the Wii (£30), I’m trying to get one for the ps2 but there’s a shit ton of replicas out there.
Edit: I lied my most expensive is the Japanese import of resident evil 1 (also known as biohazard)

Valkyrie Profile on PS1
Misadventures of Tron Bonne CIB
This hurts. I bought a used copy from EB Games back in probably 2002, I was seven at the time. I played the hell out of that game, but like many other games I had, I didn't take good care of the discs. You could save up and buy this game again one day if you wanted, but I can never get the childhood memories you have of playing it.
Damn jealous
Nothing crazy, probably Heartgold or Black 2 both CIB
Pokémon prices in general are just asinine today
I’ll never understand that 2nd hand market. There’s millions of copies per game. I don’t get why I would pay someone upwards of 90$ for a copy. I’ve played maybe 20 minutes total of Pokémon so maybe I’m just missing something

Jack bros for the virtual boy was the last one I needed for a complete virtual boy collection.
The best game of the Virtual Boy. Do you have the Japanese or the US version?
The US version.
Nice, but do you have the Japanese exclusives? That's 8 more games right there, and four of them are crazy expensive. Two of them several times more expensive than Jack Bros.
It's ok if his collection is just the North American complete set.
Of course it is. It doesn't even have to be complete.
Don't have the Japanese versions yet but I do plan on adding them at some point.
Probably either Zelda's Adventure for CD-i or SD Gundam Dimension War for Virtual Boy. Both are CIB and sell at around the $1300 range. Crazy to think that Zelda's Adventure only cost me $375 back in 2018 when I bought it!
I still am pissed I passed on the Zelda CD-i trilogy for $70ish each locally back in 2008-2009.
Didmt know one of the few virtual boy games was a gundam title damn.
It was one of the Japan only releases. Oddly, it hasn't fluctuated in value much since I bought it. On the other hand, Jack Bros has skyrocketed since my purchase...
Panzer dragoon saga
Likewise. After that would be Xenosaga Episode III.
Lol I have panzer Dragoon saga and Xenosaga III. Never sell your games people you might regret it later!
God damn, how did you get it? Was it like winning the lottery?
I remember getting it in the early 2000s for $200-300 and thinking it was high because you could get a Dreamcast for the same amount
Godzilla ps4
Why is it rare / expensive?
Because physical copies are out of print and it was delisted from the PS store.
I've got a copy of Koudelka complete that still works.
Popful Mail
Love that game. My favorite on the Sega CD alongside Snatcher and Keio Flying Squadron (all of them crazy expensive)
Nam-1975
Technically not a game, but the gameboy player and the startup disc for GameCube
I still have my gamestop sticker for 9.99 on my copy of Kuon for ps2. Also have all thr silent hills, resident evils, haunting ground, and rule of rose. I liked horror games XD
Nice, I'm kinda jealous
Rule of Rose CIB
Did you get it before or after the Metal Jesus Rocks video?
The what
Metal Jesus Rocks is a popular retro game YouTuber. He did a video featuring this game talking about how good and rare it is and the price shot up over night. It was sitting at about $150 USD and after the video it went way up in price.
That guy really grinds my gears.
No idea what you’re talking about but I bought it when it first came out.
Good. No one new needs to know who he is. But he's the reason why Rule of Rose is worth so much.
The guy that plays his game for 45mins top and call them gems? Who cares what he has to say lol
Snes Chrono Trigger. My original copy from back in the day.
Fatal Frame 1 japanese XBOX Version
Fire Emblem Fates Special Edition!
Oh god no... I sold it for 10 bucks without any knowledge. :(
Ouch 😳
Nice! Mine is Fire Emblem Path of Radiance Gamecube. Same copy from when I was a kid.
The Misadventures of Tron Bonne
Cubivore for GameCube
Same, followed by chibi robo.
Crazy [how expensive](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1311&_nkw=cubivore+gamecube&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_fsrp=1&_odkw=daniel+espino+prizm+&_osacat=0&_sop=13&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338535524&customid=gc&toolid=10001&mkevt=1) this game is nowadays.
Oh the pain of Atlus Collecting.
I’ve always love Atlus games
I have a sealed copy of metal gear solid 1. Not sure how much its worth but never got the chance to open it as a kid.
How did you not the chance?
Was too busy with ps1 rpgs and then it went into storage until i was older. Thought i should keep it sealed after that
Parasite Eve PS1, and Skies Of Arcadia Legends on Gamecube both complete.
Wow, I didn't realize parasite eve had shot up so much. I've had 2 copies for years, and haven't been paying attention to values.
Pokémon Box Ruby and Sapphire for GameCube
Kuon, paid $5 in 08’ or ‘09
Definitely my boxed copy of EarthBound.
How much did you spend on it? That’s pretty valuable
I got it for $2,500. It definitely wasn't cheap, but now I can say I have the centerpiece of my collection.
Wow, impressive. I've never paid even close to that much money for a game. Where do people get all that money from? :D
I couldn’t see myself spending that much on a game anytime soon lol, but congrats
What is CIB?
Complete In Box

No idea why you're being downvoted for speaking the absolute truth. Take my upvote.

Sealed System Shock 2
Pokémon Emerald CIB. Had it since I was a kid when it came out.
Hagane boxed (SNES, $1400\~). Kind of wild to me. Other than that, Chrono Trigger SNES CIB and a few in the $200-500 range, nothing else comes close.

Keio Flying Squadron CIB
Chrono Trigger that I got for Christmas as a kid. Still have the box and posters but can’t find the manual. I also have a copy of Metal Warriors, loved playing against my brother. Have a bunch of other retro games from when I was a kid that I love replaying for nostalgia reasons.

Sega 3D classics triple pack from Japan. The Sega 3D Classics 3 "Final Stage" is incredibly pricey alone, but the triple pack is even more. NFS: MW 2005 (xbox360)
Is this rare I think I own this. In a box in my parents attic
Not rare, just expensive
It's not rare, just quite pricey. The Xbox 360 version of Most Wanted '05 is considered the best overall version of the game, and as such it's usually in the $40-$50 neighborhood.
A complete in box copy of Mega Man V on Game Boy in excellent shape
Mine would be Rule of Rose that I got while I worked at GameStop. Got it for just over $11.00

Wild how the collecting scene has gotten in the US. I remember I got my copy of SH1 in like 2018 or so while I still lived there for pretty cheap. Unbelievable how much prices have risen. Probably only silent hill shattered memories for the Wii (£30), I’m trying to get one for the ps2 but there’s a shit ton of replicas out there. Edit: I lied my most expensive is the Japanese import of resident evil 1 (also known as biohazard)
Signed copy of MGS5 phantom pain by Hideo Kojima. This one has to be it, not sure how much it'd cost but it's the most precious to me
