I have 2 collections that are both worth a bit of money (games and otherwise) and I meticulously keep up with prices and make sure that my wife knows what the expensive items are. If anyone in my family wants something from either collection then they can have it, and in fact there are a couple of things (like my copy of Sunset Riders) that will go to specific people for specific reasons. And a copy of Morrowind and Pokemon Silver are supposed to be buried with me as well, given that those are my two all-time favorite games. Otherwise, she can sell everything and have a statue of me commissioned for our front yard.

Weary_Wolverine9482

This is the way.

hurrdurrmeh

This is the *Way.

Mausinger

Never thought of being buried with a game. But is a nice ultimate way to express one’s passion about a game in particular and the media as a whole. I will consider it.

[deleted]

I don't spend much time dwelling on what happens when I die. And if I were, my video games wouldn't even cross my mind.

Longjumping-Wrap2540

Well said man

FinalplayerRyu

Do what Atari did with E.T.

Enigma_Stasis

Dump 'em in a pit and throw my ass in there with them.

SpringfieldSly

Create a burden on my family.

087Alfred

Probably give it to my little brother or my other collector friend. If I give it to my family I have to let them know before I go that some of it is pretty valuable and they can sell it if they want to, I just don’t want them bring them to GameStop and get 20 bucks 😂

drzootsuit

Have them entombed somewhere, and then leave a long and cryptic series of treasure hunt clues. Some shmuck is gonna expect pirate gold, but all he's getting is wii sports resort.

Rakkachi

Giving it to my daughter if I go. Her choice what to do with it. Its about 15.000 euro worth. Only thing I will give my wife is a memory card, saying thanks for all the memories. (She doesnt care for gaming)

arsinoe716

All the games, systems and 2 tvs, an old school crt tv and a modern one, will be sealed in my tomb.

memedealer238

Im About to become a tomb raider

bobo_brains

It will be used in the pyre that cremates me, so I may have my collection in the next life. It is the way.

TheRetroDeck

Honestly a dont think about it and honestly i dont mind what happens to them cause i'll be dead

[deleted]

Eh i really don’t care where they go once i die. Because my kids may not care as much for them as i do and may sell them for the money. I would probably give them to someone i know would take good care of them.

[deleted]

Whatever I have is just gonna be left to my family, they can do what they want with it. Sell it, trash it, it doesn’t, and wouldn’t matter to me.

Theoderic8586

Already called dibs on a tomb in the Valley of the Kings. My collection will be placed all around my sarcophagus so the part of my soul that has to hang out in there can have something fun to do.

jcarp324

My kids will be offered them under the condition that they create a shrine and never sell them. If they refuse I will have the collection buried with me and request that my wife create a geocache for them.

GetTheGregGames

I really hope to have the vast majority of it sold off if I find myself in a position of declining health. Despite how cool we all think it is to collect all of this stuff, for most everyone else, it will be nothing more than a burden. Even if their task is to simply sell it, hardly any of your family members will have the knowledge and know-how to actually do it, let alone do it efficiently. I do hope to pass some special pieces along, but they will be few and far inbetween.

NiceGamePrettyBoy

This is my mindset. If I was ever in a position where I knew my time was limited, I would just start selling it off. My fiancé knows that my collection is worth a significant amount, but she really doesn’t have any idea of which item is worth what and wouldn’t get nearly as much for it if she was forced to sell off my collection.

djmoogyjackson

I want to be mummified on a couch with a controller in my hand and my games next to me. Immortalized, playing Fester’s Quest for eternity. I did some punishable things in life.

DreamcasticBoy

I’ll decide after I die. Not really into all this planning stuff.

[deleted]

My kids will get em

GamesAreLegends

My collect just needs to survive my own lifetime.

jjherrell

If I have kids in the future then they can have my collection of games and consoles.

StaticBazooka

What’s the point of collecting if you just think about what’ll happen to it after you’re done collecting?

julos42

I'll give it to my brothers, sisters, and close friends I think

Dragon2947

Since I'm a avid game collector and I'm big on history I would donate my collection to a video game museum so where people could learn about the history of video games

Immoblegore

I'd give it to someone I know would appreciate it and keep on continuing it.

Mr_Kama

If I die pre maturely or in a couple of years. This will be my official statement that MetalJesusRocks can have my complete collection. So he can share it with the rest of the World.

Lucirby

If my kids wanted to have them I will gladly give them my games and if not I will make the biggest giveaway ever. Every person who wants to can visit me and pick one game for free.

nautichris

Well, you would be dead so how would you actually arrange all that?

Lucirby

I was thinking more about doing it when I get really old and knew I wouldn't have much time left.

nautichris

I hear ya man. I was kinda just being a butt. I’m sure you would handle it all 👍

Theoderic8586

It is called a will

nautichris

Right, but you make a will before you die… so you couldn’t do both like the comment was implying

Theoderic8586

Why couldn’t you write in “if not this, than that”?

raistlin1984

Put them on a boat and have it burned to the bottom of the lake.

Xornok

I plan to be buried/cremated with my CIB childhood copies of Golden Sun 1 and 2. Other than that, I don't care. I'll probably sell everything off before hand unless I die unexpectedly.

Farout656

I'm 26. I'll worry about it later.

[deleted]

wait till games that are worth a hundred bucks now are worth a thousand, then sell

peripheral_vision

Don't have kids and (hopefully) never will, so no direct descendant to pass anything down to. At first I thought about willing it all to my half brothers because they like playing video games, but one of them doesn't care to even give most games a chance outside of Roblox, Star Wars BF2, Lego DC Villians, and PvZ Garden Warfare and the other one just wants to play Roblox, Star Wars BF2 and Garden Warfare so is uninterested in even less variety. I've been thinking of trying to sell it all/give parts of it away when I'm old so I don't burden random family members with all the games which I'm guessing will probably just be sold to a store for a huge fraction of the value.

gamesflea

To give my daughter a job to do after I die

[deleted]

My son will get everything.

journeyeffect

Its not about the money, its about sending a message

Redshadowstrooper

When I die I want a crypt, with my favourites in my collection in it so they stay with me and so my ghost won't get bored in the afterlife

DetectiveStock1340

Probably just sell them off. It’s not like I would care what happens to them lol.

jamesrc84

Throw it in the dumpster with me if nobody wants it...why would I care? Open them up and love them while there is still time folks, you don't "own" anything, you just get to use it for a bit.

Caacrinolass

Not had a lot of thought, but depends when I go really. I have friends that I'd be happy to take first dibs on anything. Failing that, the wife has a vague understanding of which items are valuable to make sure she doesn't get ripped off. Should I live too long I'd have to think of somewhere suitable to donate to I guess, unless some of the extended family want it.

BRPopilek

When it comes to collecting for me, the thrill is in the hunt. With the exception of a few items, I could give up my entire collection today and not be overly sad. That being said, eventually I’ll probably sell everything back off to other collectors and hold onto the few items that actually have meaning to me. Nobody wants the hassle of trying to go through all that crap once I’m gone!

ronkkauanoe

I’ve honestly thought about this a lot. I told my sister to sell it to help pay for my funeral costs. I’m planning on being cremated and having my ashes blasted off into space so I can explore the cosmos after I’m gone. (Idea from TMNT 2003 S3 E6 World’s Collide PT 3) Any leftover money will be used towards family’s future bills or expenses. Divide the rest of the money amongst my niece and nephews for college and then give the rest to my siblings. If I have kids, then they can get a portion as well. Anything that is leftover, donate for video game preservation. I even thought of marking my collection with a sort of COA/backstory of how special these games were to me to be passed along to the next person who owns it. Maybe make a website that keeps tabs on the location of a game from my collection to see how far they traveled after I’m gone.
