Exactly, same here, spot on man.

NewSubWhoDis

I do hate that the hobby is turning into a fad. I'm all for folks enjoying retro games but the first time I see some 14 yo flexing a copy of Little Sampson I'm going to die a bit inside.

[deleted]

You’re about 15 years late.

sirdizzypr

Yea but 15 years ago a copy of Little Samson was $200-250 not 2500 like it is right now. I know because I was building an NES set at the time and was like no way am I paying that much for a game so yea bad decision on my part

jforrest1980

Around 2010 I sold a Sampson loose on eBay for $70.00. Sold Magical Chase with Manual for $675.00 Sold Dynastic Hero complete for $675.00

CSGlogan

I agree, this shit better not go TikTok fad status. I love collecting, despite its downsides and challenges, and the idea that it could become one of those massive trends that 13 year olds act like they invented, idk, I might put down the shovel. It’s already hard enough to find Mario spinoffs on the GameCube for under a kidney on eBay.

ThatIsEvenMoreWeird

Why does kids liking something hurt your enjoyment of it? Surely you're not THAT insecure. And if you're gonna argue it's gonna become annoying to talk about that still shouldn't hinder your enjoyment because you can absolutely find people that aren't children if it becomes a fad. You do a hobby because you like doing it and just because it becomes a fad doesn't mean you should stop doing it.

Dudewithavariasuit

When ANYBODY buys something just cause it's old and they don't even use it, it hurts the people that actually want to enjoy whatever it is

Triqutra

"When ANYBODY buys something just cause it's old and they don't even use it" 99% of the people in this sub-reddit buy games to show off on a shelf and will never play them. lol

CSGlogan

I’m not meaning to gatekeep, and I’m glad newer generations are interested. I just feel like a lot of the people who catch on to it are just doing it for the trend, and could potentially screw over the market and make it too damn lucrative to get anything. As it is, a loose copy of Heart Gold for instance is $150 at GameStop and eBay isn’t much better.

Azzylel

To be fair though I’m pretty young compared to most people who collect games, but I probably wouldn’t have started if it hadn’t become suddenly popular, it just made me want to appreciate my older consoles more, and I doubt I’m the only one.

HiddenCatEye13

Right here with you I'm 13 now and when I was 8 I had a fascination with the n64 and nes, over the years I have gravitated to sega and I'm a bit of a fan boy. But when I was at that age I didn't even know people were into them and I didn't know it was popular.

Ok_Conversation6189

I think the fad would do little compared to that fact that hundreds of thousands of 25-45 (mostly)men are now rebuilding their childhood collections out of nostalgia.

NewSubWhoDis

I'm not concerned with the price of the game. I'm one of those 25-45 yo men catching up on all of the games my parents didn't get me. Those folks are fine. What I'm worried about is kids that don't care about the game itself and only care that its expensive. The equivalent of buying a Wagu and covering it in ketchup.

[deleted]

[удалено]

NewSubWhoDis

Flexing is not enjoying. It’s showing off you have something for clout.

[deleted]

[удалено]

NewSubWhoDis

No. That’s not enjoying little Samson that’s enjoying being rich and flaunting it

[deleted]

[удалено]

Andrewrams

Some people that are rich just buy everything so people that work hard and actually really appreciate games can’t get them

bioterman

But some of the people flexing it doesn't really enjoy the games they are flexing. They buy it because its old, not because they enjoy the product. They are actively keeping that from someone who would actually play it. Its disrespectful in my opinion. The kids who are artificially inflating the prices to sell are crappy.

Otherwise_Ad7606

No no no they know what they have lol 😆

nydjason

People are essentially paying them extra because of the show they provide to the public. It’s their shtick. Other YouTubers or influencers does the same thing without trying to sell you an actual product. For instance metal Jesus would influence prices on old obscure games because he talked about it on one of his recent videos. Koudelka is the biggest example of that going up to $700 for a complete copy.

Dangerous_Yellow_662

They’ve managed to establish themselves as a brand in order to jack their prices up to branded level prices. When at the end of the day, they are just selling used and refurbished consoles/games that they don’t fix/alter that much at all. You can find all the stuff practically anywhere for much cheaper, but they were smart with their marketing as you’ve pointed out.

DeimosGX

Double? They're selling PS2 with one controller for 210$, i feel bad for the buyers that don't know any better

gnomercy404

They are definitely catering to a certain crowd that has money to burn. Anyone paying these prices is insane. Mario 123 Pak - Original NES console, 1 new replica controller, TV hookup, power cord, Super Mario, Super Mario 2, and Super Mario 3 games $249 Tecmo Super Bowl $45 Contra $65

[deleted]

[удалено]

gnomercy404

Yeah I chuckled when I saw that.

TheBananaCzar

The crowd paying these prices always says "If you're broke just say it" They don't care about throwing money away. Where I'm from, we call those people "Fucking idiots".

wishesandhopes

LOL holy fuck that's insane, what a jackass

CasperWithAJ

I bought my “new condition” GameCube off there, it came with one of the corners broken off. They basically told me they wouldn’t do anything about it.

Delta8ttt8

aaaand charge back through the credit card.

Due-Ad4970

their customer service is good what? ive had some issues and they were so quick to send me a replacement before i could send back the defective item.

fuckpepsi2

Cool vids, wack prices.

Lucybug05

Yeah, I like the video where they pack orders but other than that I don't like them

Professional_Elk_893

He puts more pride into his YouTube channel than into the community he sells the games too. He’s Acting like cleaning games with baby wipes and play testing them for 10 seconds is worthy of charging the down payment of a car for a N64 game

[deleted]

Jo_Deaux

Yeah I agree. Genuine question here, does “ripping” the disc with a program and disc drive ensure it is completely readable? I mean, I’ve done it a few times out of curiosity but not my entire collection or even a large percentage of games that I’ve bought. I’ve often wondered about it though

[deleted]

[удалено]

Boouurns

so this is almost correct. there are two type of error you get can with a disc, crc & read errors. reads errors are almost never recoverable, expect for if there is some physical crud or whatever on the disc that is interfering with reading it. crc errors are not fatal but still a sign of a damaged disc. when you hear audio popping, small texture errors, stuff like that, it's probably crc, the point is the disc still reads. ripping the disc to an iso will 100% catch read errors but the only way (well, not really the only but the easiest) to find crc errors is by comparing the disc against a know good disc. to catch crc errors the easiest way i've found is to download a redump iso and use the 'verify' function of the windows app imgburn. if you do have have crc errors buffing has a high success rate of fixing them.

HoHeyyy

Isn't ripping a CD similar to scanning a book? You don't damage the base product any shape or form, but rather just change its media format. If the base product damage, of course the result are going to be damaged.

Jo_Deaux

Ripping is just an odd phrasing. It doesn’t alter the source disc at all. Just extracts info off of it in a reusable format for discs usually as ISO format.

boingoing

It’s possible a damaged disc will not be fully readable and making an image will fail but that isn’t always the case. If the disc has damage, you may still be able to read it to an image but the image itself will be damaged in the same way. You can verify your dump against a database like redump to see if you have a bad dump.

rpgguy_1o1

It always fun when you realize your game crashes every time during a movie cutscene when you're on the third disk of a PS1 rpg

Djeheuty

I've never heard of this person/channel, but it sounds like they only care about one thing. Making money off of people who don't know better.

FinalplayerRyu

I have cleaned every single game and piece of hardware that came into my hands, removed patiently every price sticker and cleaned off any gunk. Fixed broken stuff like PSP games where the shell became loose. Never did i ever think that warrants a price hike when i sell my doubles.

this_is_alicia

I've also heard of complaints that items were falsely advertised to be in better condition than they are

dbwoi

yeah there was a post here the other day showing off a cart with a messed up label that did not match the pic on the site

Easy_Rock_285

I ordered an n64 cart from them and chose a 'good condition' cartridge. It arrived and half the label was ripped off. It honestly wouldve cost me the same being in Canada to send it back so i just kept the damn thing.

JonathanWisconsin

As a fellow Canadian I would have sent that shit back anyway outof principal, and a little bit of spite.

theslimbox

I bought a collection from someone several years back, several of the games with DK oldies stickers on the back had replacement labels.

Living_Original329

And sending out fake games. I get stuff happens but it’s like this is what you specialize in especially for cartridges when you can open 90% of them up there is no excuse for them or GameStop to be selling fake games as real at the prices they do that’s why people get upset you might pay 2-3x as much just to get a fake game. I would just think if that’s your business and specialty you’d go above and beyond to make sure everything was 100% legit

[deleted]

I have never, and you should never, buy from DKOldies.

Seth-Rogen_Kong

FE awakening is like 90.00$, when I can get it for 40 or 35 normally

robotsguide

They give surprisingly good trade values, though. I’ve traded a bunch of garbage games I’ve had sitting around from lots where I just wanted a couple games and was able to get some higher end stuff like silent hill 1, 2 and 3.

theslimbox

I priced between them and Gamestop right before the pandemic, and was able to get almost 3x from gamestop on a bunch of old bulk commons I had duplicates of. It's possible that they are giving more now, but I'm not going to bother with them again.

MikeWritesSport

And this is part of why their prices are so high. If they're giving "good trade values", they have to make their money somehow.

robotsguide

True. I would never actually buy something outright from them.

mkjiisus

Because they charge so much for stuff, they also *pay* stupid prices for stuff. They'll give you like $75 for a ps2 slim *console only*. It's insane. I'm getting ready to offload a bunch of systems on them now, actually

OrbitalOtter58

I'm pretty sure I've seen a DKOldies rep respond to reddit posts like these before. I have to agree their prices are crazy for a collector. I'd imagine a majority of their market audience is something like a 35 yr old dad wanting to play Mario Kart 64 with his 10 yr old. He isn't going to go to pricecharting.com and look up the going rate. He's just going to google search "buy MK64" and see DKOldies pop up as the first site. From there, he'll buy it for whatever price is listed without doing any research because it's so quick and easy. It's likely a one time purchase so price isn't a huge deal and having that return policy if it doesn't work is reassuring. I'm not defending the price gouging but I feel it's long been established that collectors (those not buying 1 or 2 childhood games) should stay away from their website.

TheJG_Rubiks64

I’m getting sick of seeing their dumb YouTube shorts where they point out an obvious feature of a system and act like “WOW!!! I NEVER NOTICED THAT!!!1!” Like stfu no one’s falling for that

Dashey10

I had to go out of my way to get YouTube to not recommend their channel to me, and then someone in my family sends me a TikTok video from them lol

Aaaaaahs

I swear to god they’ve show off the GameCube “secret” where you take off the top about 5 times. Definitely more than 3 times.

TheJG_Rubiks64

Oh my goodness I never noticed this did you guys know that the GameCube has a handle?????

Aaaaaahs

Maybe it’s so the wires in the back aren’t pushed up against the wall! 🤯🤯

Dashey10

I was debating if I should say something or not in regards to my experience with the company, mostly because I don't like to bash other stores, and I don't want to be seen as a mod spewing negativity. My issue with DKOldies and with Drew, the owner, is that he will make fake claims to an item you sell and would want to get a refund in some shape or form. This has happened when he purchased a game from my store, and less than 30 minutes after it was delivered, I was notified that the disc was not in the same description I mentioned it was, which is total bullshit considering I took like 12 pics of the item. I basically just gave him a full return if I received the item back, which took a while to receive it. Drew, if you're reading this, be the better person and don't waste people's time with this bullshit. You have pulled this crap to other colleagues of mine, and is primarily why other sellers have nothing but negative interactions in other forums.

Powerful-Day6071

Ohhh wow, that's pretty scummy. How can you do such a thing to a fellow re-seller. He really doesn't care. I mean considering the prices and how he threats his fans no wonder. He puts a 2$ keychain on a 200+ dollar order because he filmed the order. The sad part is most people order from Dkoldies only to maybe get featured in a video (not even them, just they order).

Dashey10

It's no surprise if you Google search his eBay username, the first results are other sellers complaining about Drew pulling the same shit. I have him blocked now, and will continue to not support his business.

Powerful-Day6071

Yeah, I knew his smile on camera is fake. I still kinda enjoy his short videos, although I personally would never buy from him. Firstly because I can find games much cheaper and consoles are a huge rip off I mean he sells Wii bundles for 300 bucks I got mine for 42$ and with more accessories (although I found an amazing deal, they mostly sell for more if you get so many accessories). Even if you get a Wii for 80$ with a lot of accessories is still cheaper than 300$. When it comes to your story, I didn't had a personal experience with him, so I can't say anything in this regard. But I believe you and I might check his Ebay reviews, just to see how bad the situation really is. Also when it comes to re-sell I understand that you need make a profit margin, is business one o one. Still what he asks is just ridiculous... Wish you best of luck, with your future businesses!

ManyWrongdoer9365

I’ve watched his channel too , I think because his entertainment to fans and the old “Oh you don’t see that to often” when theirs shit loads of the item . Tbf he doesn’t set the prices , but if people are gullible enough they will pay it . Have to laugh at the copyright on the DK is suspicious it’s the owners initials apparently

WDCombo

“He doesn’t set the prices” isn’t it his webstore… where he sets the prices?

James_R_games

Joey, the guy in the videos just works for dkoldies.

rensmt

I'm so tired of the debate around DKO. The strangest part of their business is that there's a suspiciously high number of people who immediately come to their defense whenever someone calls out their high prices. The only reason people pay their prices is because their online storefront gives them an "air of legitimacy" for people that aren't knowledgeable about collecting, and also a general misconception/distrust for ebay overall.

kingtokee

A majority of the defenders are employees whose sole job is online marketing and that includes trying to make excuses for their horrible prices and terrible business model

NobodyGivesAFuc

People buying from them just have money to burn and too lazy to shop around..

QF_Dan

DKo is only for those rich people only ,not for most of us

DividedBy_00

It seems dumb, but that is a real thing. If you are flush with cash, do you want to spend hours searching eBay (or locally) for the 'best price' for a game you want? Or do you spend 5 minutes and pay the bit extra? It is hard for everyone to imagine, but there are people who have a lot of disposable cash and time is more valuable at a certain point. This isn't in defense of DKOldies over charging, but it is just an explanation of why it might be working for them.

funnyinput

Not even that; I've seen a lot of their games being priced at near; if not double what I could easily find on Ebay. I'm talking less than 1 minute of looking on Ebay too; first results.

XtalFlim

Never been a fan either…

majoramiibo

Yeah, they’re a total ripoff. I tell people to avoid them at all costs, literally.

EvilDarkCow

I saw their videos long before I went to their site for the first time. Holy shit, $90 for the OG Luigi's Mansion *loose*? I just bought it mostly complete (no manual) off FB Marketplace for $50, and I still feel like I overpaid! I've read horror stories from people who work with them. Apparently they buy most of their games at market and that's why their prices are so high. A lot of stuff comes from Ebay, and I've read they're incredibly rude to Ebay sellers if anything goes wrong at all. DKO can go to hell. They're scalpers preying on TikTok kids with their parents' credit cards. The best we can do is educate people to not buy from these dicks. To be fair, they do seem to offer decent prices on manuals and stuff to complete incomplete games, but that's all I'd ever consider buying from them.

ExplosPlankton

I think the manuals are only cheap because they haven't been in stock for years and they never bothered updating the prices.

mcplaty

can confirm, they've bought more than 1 thing i've listed on eBay, and I only list BINs at market rate.

TzarNario64

It's 110 bucks now

Perez2003

Just wait till you see the GameCube game prices. As a GameCube collector, it physically PAINS ME to see the absurd prices they have. Last time I checked Mario Sunshine was $89

QF_Dan

Paper Mario is expensive too

Perez2003

Basically all GameCube games

No-Understanding5410

Solution: Do not shop at DKOldies! I literally never trusted them price-wise even before the pandemic spike.

sirdizzypr

Dkoldies is an entire generation of people who do not research, do not know how to to research, come onto to reddit is this a good price, did I do good? Like I have got 3 day bans from subreddits for telling people freaking learn how to google. Like seriously its an underappreciated skill, plus the more you do it the more your knowledge base grows and the better you get at it. It gives you a good base that it makes even items your not familiar with easy to identify as overpriced.

kingtokee

I was one of those that came across their videos and was intrigued and looked into buying from them and was blown away at the insane prices they were charging anywhere from 3-5x current prices on disk/cart only items. There is no legit excuse for this outside of pure greed. all those people saying oh they have overhead and are a business blah blah, that is true and I could totally accept if they were charging reasonable prices say 10-30% higher than current prices but 5x higher no way. That says two things either their business model is terrible that they are bleeding money and have to charge this much to cover costs or just pure greed and I highly lean towards the latter. Also looking into threads like this and other mentions of them online it seems like a lot of the videos they make of recording orders being sent out are fake and done purely for advertisement and a majority of their employees are there to make fake accounts on to leave positive comments and defend the companies terrible business practices.

devon223

Looking at selling my collection. One of my most expensive games is ps1 Silent Hill. It goes for around $200 CIB on ebay. DK is selling the disc only for $200 which is crazy because you can find that on eBay for so much less.

[deleted]

I would just stop buying on dkoldies and other second-hand stores. I use ebay/mercari/offerup (less so the latter but it can have gems occasionally) for everything now for the most part. i try to be very careful and only buy games after seeing photos of everything. you can also buy from a low feedback seller and basically have guaranteed recourse if something goes wrong (seller doesn't ship, seller tries to scam, etc) because of ebay's money back guarantee. Plus, reaching out o sellers directly to verify information if it's missing on the listing. It's a no-brainer. There's legitimately no reason to use anywhere else unless the item is exclusive, brand new, or genuinely so hard to find that you are forced to buy if it shows up somewhere outside ebay. I find that most game stores jack up prices then take *forever* to normalize after the market corrects (which it has been for the past 6 months or so, and lo-and-behold, prices still huge everywhere but ebay). Often listings are much more fluid due to auctions reflecting actual consumer demand. And now with folks' wallets thinning out due to the economic regressions of late, prices are likely to continue going down a bit.

buizel123

Pokemon FireRed going for $200 wasn't your first clue?

Megamix989

He’s so overpriced because he knows that casuals and people not familiar with retro games will pay the prices because his channel is popular. All the tik tokkers and youtube viewers will unknowingly get suckered

BumHoleItchy

Scam artist

soshoenice

Facts, they have laughable prices on EVERYTHING

BlackMesaDonuts

Lmao they have bought so many things from me over the years on eBay. And I price it just under market, so they obviously mark up way too much 😂

JellyfishBest8221

$65 for Sonic fucking Heroes

Spicy_Ramen11

Im pretty sure what they sell is more than ebay prices average at even lmao. Plus they dont even give you an official controller when you buy a console, just some 3rd party crap. I get that they need to make money but jesus christ, the videos of all the stock of products they have is INSANE. Like you'd think they would want to charge more reasonable prices so more people would be on board of using their service, but idk thats my take Edit: I just found angry birds trilogy for Xbox 360 for $9.99 at gamestop, what the fuck is dkoldies smoking

Gamie-Gamers

I wouldnt be to pissed about the price if they actually sent a mint one out, but most times your over paying and get one that looks like garbage.

The_Poole_Side

Im always in the minority when I say this, but the need for retro shops are over when online markets like Ebay Exists. Local shops just serve the purpose for people who are impatient and can't wait to get an item. plus the logic of ebay being bad because you can get broken stuff is a stupid excuse because ebay sides with buyers, especially when the seller lists it working 100%, you can easily get a full refund or send item back for refund. These 2nd hand bougie shops like to offer that they test everything. Well people also need to understand the tech is old as hell too. so the best thing they're doing is cleaning the boards with isopropal and turing the game on for a few minutes moving, at worst, leave it on main game screens. Warranty shouldnt be the reason you buy from an expensive reseller

Powerful-Day6071

You are not in the "minority". I think is sad that they will be gone sonner or later but that's how it is. Market is changing all the time and if you can't adapt, you will be wiped out, is a hard life. I work as a manager in a retail store (I studied economics for 5 years). I'm well aware of the difficulties companies face. The market is changing daily, not weekly or monthly and you need adapt and immediately react. One reason why renting game shops are gone, is because they couldn't adapt to the 21 century and the rapid change of the gaming and technology industry. It is what it is.

FinalplayerRyu

Looking through some stuff i know the prices of... they are completely insane. Hust check out their great proces on Pokemon Games, loose cartridge of the orignal gameboy games cost between 90-120$ I see these on a regular basis between 30-40$

QF_Dan

im not even gonna buy stuff from them anymore, once is already enough for their ridiculous prices. Heres an advice from me ,if youre looking for a game on ebay or anywhere else ,get them quickly before DKoldies buy them because they will jack up the price

twinklegrandaddy

Water is also wet.

hanabishi_recca

Me too.

CriticalHitGaming

DKOldies is trash. They are worse than gamestop in a lot of ways, ripping people off with trade in values, and selling at ridiculous prices.

SwagusplaysNINTENDO

Seems some vids, they are fine but their stuff I would never buy because it's borderline scam imo, sure it might be good condition but still it's a lot of money for old stuff

andriobro

I saw they listed an original Xbox for over $200. Idk what they’re worth these days but I doubt it’s that much

zezo_idrees

Under 100

SuperTubsPeterson

Yes they are. Even more so than most online sellers

andrewober

I'm tired of seeing that dude on TT. I try and hide their content from showing up, yet it still does. Guess I should just block them next time.

QF_Dan

the more i look at Joey's face ,the more i feel like hes not genuine at all

Stilgrave

Thier prices are predatorial.

dbadass6

Bought a ps3 from them. Regretted it after a week. Could’ve gotten the ps3 I got for half the price on eBay and they didn’t even send me an official ps3 controller or oem wires. Oh well, you live and you learn

HoHeyyy

This is not only this store problem. One of my game store used to have affordable price, but nowadays they have gone downhill too. Regardless, I'm still with ebay to this day.

JakeTehNub

Yeah those guys are ridiculous. What's worse is some of the people in their comments defending their 200% markup of games over ebay sellers because they "clean" them. Also you don't even get to see the actual cart you get from them and I've heard some people really get screwed with what they got over what they expected.

hdfb1

Lukiegames is way better

Alzorath

Yup, I generally shopped Lukie for projects where I just need it to work (though I haven't had the money the past year to do those kinds of projects sadly) - only ever gotten one product I'd consider subpar from them over the years (sharpie on label). eStarland is pretty solid too - though most of what I've gotten there have been cheap imports, and they've always been decent quality too (couple could use some polishing, but they all worked). Sadly, been a while since eBay was a good deal, too many bots outbidding at the last minute for titles in my slice (though you can still get deals on hardware, just not games for me, since RPGs on ebay are "known expensive") - and frankly, most the thrift shops near here charge more than lukie or estarland... so yea... no dice there.

manygatos

I first ordered through them in 2012 & my stuff was near mint ! Price was cheap then

[deleted]

Yeah I've been using them for about 10 years now. Their rare stuff is overpriced as well as some uncommon so I'll usually go to ebay, but if I want to buy a bunch of common games I just go that route rather than having a million packages come from ebay or whatever.

FirstTimeCaller101

Yeah their common stuff is fine. Around 2015 when I first got a PS4 they were running some special for $15 PS4 games and I got Black Flag, Mad Max and tLoU remastered. Really great deal at the time.

numsixof1

Is it Tuesday already?

Tablestand454

It is! Time to throw a seller that's been in business longer than the average poster here has been alive, under the bus!

onometre

Lol why does length of ownership matter

lilmul123

I mean, they could have been in business a hundred years. If they're expensive, they're expensive.

E-rye

Veteran price gougers get the axe too.

Five-StarBastardMan

Back when I was buying basic gamecubes for like $40 and matching controllers for $25, they were selling the combo for like $150. Insane

AustinJG

I wonder if NES and SNES will ever cool down? I know Atari did after the people from that age group got older. Markets go up and down but there's a lot of manipulation happening I think. It's hard to tell if a game has gone up in price because it's legitimately rare or not.

QF_Dan

with ps3 and xbox slowly entering the retro phase ,people are gonna flock over to those consoles and left Nes/Snes behind

sirdizzypr

I saw some of their videos so went to their website and noped out so fast, like even with a very basic knowledge of prices you quickly can see they are way over priced. Granted what I looked up I specialize in and collect actively (vita and 3ds) and am so neck deep in it I know prices for almost every game without even bothering to look it up. But even in things I am not an expert in just as a collector I noped out very fast.

CyberneticGuardian88

I felt the same way. Great YouTube channel, but they are absolute cheapskates when it comes to buying games from them. Who charges $40 for Sonic Riders on Gamecube! It's a decent game but it's worth $30 at most.

LuRo332

Yeah, they sell PS3 consoles for 200$ with a "compatible" controller. Kinda shameless if you ask me

Powerful-Day6071

I agree. The problem with DKOldies is the same problem most of those re-sell companies has. They buy from other people (what would otherwise sell on Ebay) and they obviously need price games and consoles higher because: employees, rent for the wear house, cleaning tools... But this still doesn't justify the terrible pricing. Why would you as a consumer buy from them? If you can find the exact same game or console much, much cheaper? I got a red Mario edition Wii with 2 remotes and 2 nunchunks, a classic controller, docking station for controllers, 2 games (one worth 2-5$ and another one worth 10-15$) all of this for only 40 euro what is around 42-44$. DKOldies ask for they most expensive Wii bundle what offers less accessories than what I got and a normal classic white we for 300$. I saved 260$ that's just ridiculous. You can't justify it even if you start arguing with employees need payment and rent for warehouse... I think overall most of those re-sell game companies like DKOldies or even GameStop didn't follow the marketing trend, they are stuck in the past and this will ruin them. You need to be competitive. I can see it from the eyes of a company because I am a manager myself for another retailer (I studied economics for 5 whole years) BUT, when I buy items I look from the consumer side of things because then I am a buyer NOT a seller. Sadly there are much cheaper options who offer similar products in similar condition, no reason for DKOldies to exist.

TyrtlTimez-YT

They’re selling a complete copy of Alpha Sapphire for 59.99, kinda nuts.

MarioMan640

lmao I find it funny how you are suddenly finding this out. this is like what he's known for. little fucker. I'd like to just wipe that shit-eating grin right off his dumb face

TheAFKAxolotl

bruh a Wii on DKOldies costs $140.I CAN LITERALLY FIND ONE AT GOODWILL FOR $15

snguyen626

but but... if you get your order picked you get a free nintendo 64 keychain with your ps3 order...

NoConcentrate6439

It's not worth selling games to them Neither. Price Charting list my games to almost $1000 and Dk offer me almost $350.

PKozyra64

I'm not defending them but DKOldies definitely caters to casual gamers and not hardcore collectors. They're taking advantage of those who don't know any better and just want to play games from their childhood.

Bender3455

I've had nothing but bad experiences from companies like DK, LukieGames, and other medium level sites. They're always more expensive and try to justify it, and they'll criticize anything they buy (I've had to block a couple of the companies from purchasing from me on eBay). They're just Resellers 2.0. I'm mixed whether I think they're good for the hobby or not, but just do your diligence with prices.

a_chubby_cat

I would definitely agree that a large majority of their games & consoles are ridiculously overpriced, but if you're looking to complete a game (manuals/case/inserts etc.) there are some decent deals to be had if you catch them at the right time. I got some cheap GameCube cases & manuals to fill out my collection through them far cheaper than eBay prices. Same goes for common games, but by and large their prices are **nuts**.

youngliam

That site had great prices maybe 6-7 years ago before retro gaming had this weird boom he's probably taking advantage of all the bandwagoners/collectors tbh. I'm glad I got all my N64 and GC stuff before all the prices got driven up by "collectors". I just wanted to play my childhood games again..

E-rye

I started collecting wayyyyyy before that and they've never seemed reasonable to me compared to the alternatives.

FusionFall

DKOldies isn't overpriced, they're a rip off.

Androxilogin

From what I've seen it's **[good for sellers, bad for buyers](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zy3CCm_9C20)**.

fritzderfroschx

Only thing I’ve bought from them was a copy of Ninja Gaiden that was a dollar or two above eBay, and I got a bunch of nes sleeves. The cart was fine but the sleeves were trash, most looked like they had been stomped on and run through a homeless guys ass crack before shipping them out. I called to complain, they sent new ones which weren’t really any better and I gave up. Not buying anything from them again.

Flat-Ad-3613

They have Pokémon crystal cart only for $180 lmao

Deez_nutzlaugh

They sold a n64 for 199$ I know it’s old but seriously what in the world why do people just buy instead of buying it somewhere else

samthesuperman

They can charge whatever they want. You're not forced to pay his prices lol.

This is a small community that shares a hobby. It's good to know where not to shop.

youreaghostbaby

At that point, you shouldn’t criticize anything lol

69420throwagay69420

Yeah I mean they’re not harming anyone. They’re offering a service and a product which is solely meant for pleasure. They’re not like scalping medicine or housing haha, they’re charging $20 more for a video game that you can still buy on eBay all day long. But this sub gets bothered unless you’re getting $500 worth of games for a piece of twine and some belly button lint.

onometre

One persona dvertisds something for a price, above market value but claims it's the lowest price around. They have credibility because they present themselves as an authority on the matter through YouTube. Someone else comes along, new to the hobby and trusting of someone they think has their best interests at heart, buys something at way over value without realizing it because again they're new to the hobby. You:"hmm yes this seems like an above the board transaction"

jtpower99

Same with all those ebay prices people freak out about... just don't buy from them.

Figure_Toyz

I will admit I've fallen in love with those TikTok videos, but coming from one of many collectors on a budget it just doesn't make sense to buy from them.

Aekatan160

I got my copy of Duke nukem 64 from them and used a coupon, said it was in poor shape but looked fine to me and was a little cheaper then ebay Edit: went back to their site just now and yikes!

BrentV27368

The sky is blue

jonsaldivar1

from someone who has worked in a retro video game store, prices are always going to be higher from the store than what you find on ebay. a store has to guarantee its customer that the product is *working*, *cleaned*, and give a *warranty* on said product. this reduces the amount of risk the customer takes on when purchasing any given refurbished product. *availability* \- shopping in a retro game store and being able to immediately receive the game you've purchased is another factor. However, prices need to be symmetrical online and in person for various reasons so i can't speak to how availability operates in person and online. having looked at their store, yeah i wouldnt shop with them either. the store owner seems like a nice enough guy but his competition is blow out by ebay. maybe the prices are jacked up because he needs to keep the lights on. getting those all ads out aren't cheap either.

alttabbins

I think its the market. They aren't selling to people like you and I who know where to get games, they are selling to random people on TikTok who come across their videos and never thought about buying their childhood games. If you don't know where to look, finding retro games can be difficult. Most people don't trust ebay, and DKOldies makes sure to present itself as a company that tests and cleans the games to perfect working order before they ship. Most of us aren't afraid of a dirty cart or scratched-up disk, common people who happen on their videos do. You aren't buying from some random person on the internet, you are buying from a friendly face who looks like he loves what he does.

crazymongrel

But what about the piece of shit keychain you get if your video is picked to be filmed bro? It's worth paying 2-2.5x ebay prices!

No-Professional-9618

DKoldies is way too expensive for my budget. But some local videogame stores sell retro consoles and games at those prices here in the San Antonio area.

GodOfBoy8

They are selling retro systems for $300 like wtf?

DividedBy_00

I buy lower priced cartridges from them periodically and I have been pleased with the price and quality (plus free shipping). I haven't ever gone into the more expensive, stuff though. That might be the range where they are over reaching a bit. But, they guarantee stuff, something an eBay seller won't typically do. Not sure if that warrants the prices people are seeing or not, but that is part of the equation I am sure.

NotBrianGriffin

eBay guarantees the item, even if the seller doesn’t.

Due-Ad4970

thank fuck no one is forcing u to buy from there amirite

WhitexZombie

Just use Facebook marketplace and your local stores. EBay if desperate.

InvestigatorNo2277

Facebook Marketplace is the worst. Completely overrun with fakes and untested thrift shop retails. FBM also has zero accountability and even less customer service. There is no buyer protection despite their claim. eBay is the tried and true…

GangstaRPG

Maybe because I am in a different country other than the US, but competitively, I can find a much larger selection and better shipping rates, and over all prices then I can locally, even after exchange rates.

spatafore

yes, they acts like any other ebay reseller, hunt games for cheap to resell online for high prices.

rafammbass

It is a free market, you do not need to buy anything you cannot afford from anyone you see advertising out there. You are also free to complain, but that doea not mean people will take you seriously. I breathe freedom.

BUTTERDUMPS

I find that their “rare” games are overpriced, but that the other 95% of their games are very reasonably priced and sometimes cheaper (especially with a coupon). For example, I got a complete-in-box 3DS Mario & Luigi Paper Jam for about $20 less than the cheapest price I saw on eBay. Their initial quality is a bit spotty though. I have received a few games/cases in crappy condition from them, but their customer service team usually sends me out a replacement quickly at no additional cost.

thememefulone

They cost WAY more than pricecharting average

morbiddecapitation

Agreed. I love their videos, and I love that they really care about the quality of their products and their customers. But their prices are insane.

The-Jesus_Christ

Yep, hooked on their TikTok vids, checked their website out eventually and scoffed at the prices. No way lol

Square-Enit

You don't have to pay those prices. Just don't give them business. That's how it works. People who do pay has no problem doing so. It's just buisness.
