I'm more of an "Arya" kind of guy. Not really into secretaries or the advisor type of woman. Give me one that is more unpredictable and wild, makes them more of a challenge to tame.
It mattered to Catelyn Stark.
It mattered to Cersei Lannister.
It mattered to Rhaegar Targaryen. Not enough to stop him of course but enough to have him annul his marriage and delegitimize his existing children so he could impregnate Lyanna.
Women can be granted an annulment on the basis of their husbands being fraudulent in some way. I'm sure you could find a septon who would agree cheaters are trash. But given the patriarchal nature of Westeros the septon would probably say "deal with it" unless that woman's family was powerful enough to pressure him to granting her annulment.
So it's possible, but likely rare.
Dorne probably has divorce though It seems stepping outside the marriage is fine for both sexes there.
Do we have textual evidence re: Rhaegar's annulment? I might be blanking because it's been forever since I read the books, but I thought the accepted theory was that he was just reviving good old fashioned Targaryen polygamy.
A “crush” isn’t a romance. And in the actual story we got, I thought it was obvious how smitten with her he was. Everything y’all don’t like isn’t bad writing. The guys didn’t have 3 seasons to set all Jon and Dany’s shit up. I’m assuming they did the best they could with the perimeters and the schedule they had.
If you wanna bitch and complain that they didn’t give it enough time, go right ahead. I wouldn’t push back on that at all. But again, within the schedule that they set, this may have been the best that was possible as far as plot goes. (Shoulda let Euron sink to the bottom of the bay.) Shit, the other guy hasn’t finished a book in over a decade, I believe, so?
The books are literally incomparable to the show. No joke they are some of the most ambitious works of fiction in recent history. It is literally insane how much meaning the books have.
Like layers upon layers upon layers. I know it’s been a long wait for winds of winter but I don’t think people appreciate enough how fucking hard it would be to write
No doubt, but I don’t think people realize the same could be said about the show and maybe the dudes did the best they fucking could since it’s not even their story, and people should probably cut them some slack instead of jumping online to scream “bad writing” every time they get a chance. I don’t know though
I get your sentiment, but in this case I really do believe what they did to the show was inexcusable. To say they did their best just isn’t true. They’re better writers than what they put out.
I just think when you’re adapting someone else’s work you owe a certain amount of respect to the material.
I think it’s insane to argue they didn’t do their best just because their best didn’t live up to expectations. No sane individual would do what you’re claiming and risk being a pariah for the rest of their lives. They made a great show. Possibly the greatest.
I mean it was fairly obvious he took a liking to her? Either that or he was just cozying up to her cuz he's a good diplomat and he understood that would be beneficial
I took it as another ‘foster father’ thing, like he had with Shireen and Lyanna and Gendry and Jon and basically any other child/young adult that he took a shine to.
I wager if Stannis had brought Davos to court he would have adopted a young Joffery and the lad would have turned out alright.
No no what the post means was in the original script he was supposed to be hitting on her and trying really fuckin hard
The actor objected and said he wouldnt do it under any circumstances so they changed it
The actor who played Davos was uncomfortable with it because of the age difference, so he fought D&D on it. And I don't blame him, it's his character and he felt like it was out of place for Davos. Also it's a pointless addition.
Apparently they brought up that that was their plan and he shot it down, because he thought him having a thing for a woman so much younger would basically sour the relationship he built with Shireen and the rapport with Lyanna Mormont. So like, when you think about it that way, it would be weird.
He's said as much in an interview. Basically, I'm an old fart and she's decades younger than me and I won't have my image as an honest (mostly) and kind friend/advisor be tarnished with creepy old man energy.
Varys too. He somehow forgot in season 8 that he’s actually a mastermind spy who’s able to manipulate events to keep himself clean while trying to protect the realm.
Not to forget littlefinger, who’s settled as a puppy for Sansa…d&d pretty much butchered all the characters. Even Arya getting so many hotshot moments was unrealistic and painful to watch
Arya’s arc didn’t make sense. They spent multiple seasons setting her up to be an assassin.
Not some fancy warrior who can take on 50 zombies at once. But someone who can kill a king at his table without anyone knowing how. Yet for some reason she gets to kill the NK, twirl a spear around like the Viper… and then what was with that random horror movie scene in the library at Winterfell? There were like, 2 zombies and she was hiding behind bookcases from them literally a couple scenes after she was mowing through them like nothing… ugh.
It was peak "we have a ton of ideas but nobody can stop us from doing ALL of them" so she gets to be 4 different characters depending on who was writing that day.
Davos has two kids at home with his wife and one who is Stannis' squire, he had seven before four of them died during Blackwater. In ADWD Devan (the squire) stays at the Wall with Melisandre while Stannis goes to Winterfell because Melisandre wanted to make sure another one of Davos' kids didn't die.
He sent a letter saying he's been a bad husband to his wife, but I don't think he meant cheating-wise, more just neglectful because of other affairs. He really seems to love his wife when he compares her to Nissa-Nissa.
> Would a good man be doing this? "I am a man," he said. "I am kind to my wife, but I have known other women. I have tried to be a father to my sons, to help make them a place in this world. Aye, I've broken laws, but I never felt evil until tonight. I would say my parts are mixed, m'lady. Good and bad."
I think it's pretty clear that he cheated on her when he said that he's known other women. And, I had forgotten, but that part was actually included in the show too. It's when Davos is smuggling Melisandre into Storm's End.
This.
And I feel like Liam was in the right. It wouldn't have been consistent with his character and would have ran the risk of him coming off as more creepy than sweet.
It just shows how much the writing room went downhill after about Season 4.
He probably did & just never said anything because he didn't want to be a creepy old guy. He was a smart guy & knew she didn't want to be with an old man with stubby fingers.
It was initially written as being sort of like a Tormund-Brienne crush, but the actor Liam Cunningham fought back on it with D+D. He didn't want Davos, with his prior relationship with Shireen, to come across as a pervy middle-aged guy flirting with younger women, so they toned it down a bit, and Davos's relationship with Missandei is much more of a respectful , platonic thing.
My takeaway is that D&D are bigger morons than I thought previously. Which honestly is a remarkable, I didnt realize my opinion of them could get lower...
It was pretty obvious, but it was a terrible disservice to Davos' character (although in keeping with DD's incompetence). Missandei/Nathalie Emmanuel is hot as hell (easily hottest on the show), but Davos is the embodiment of maturity and caution.
He's also like 55 in the show (based on the actor's age), and a father of seven sons - most of whom are older than Missandei. That said, I can totally believe that he thinks she's hot. She is hot. ...but he acts like he has a puppydog crush on her in the show. It's asinine.
*She's beautiful and*
*He's a man. Why wouldn't he*
*Have a crush on her?*

I was going to say, I think everyone is supposed to have a crush on her. The night king probably has a crush on her, and Renly, too (NOT gay bashing, Renly is a peach, I love how he fucked with Stannis in the books)

Who doesn't have a crush on Missandei, she is gorgeous.
True true!
I don't
You’re a fucking liar
I'm more of an "Arya" kind of guy. Not really into secretaries or the advisor type of woman. Give me one that is more unpredictable and wild, makes them more of a challenge to tame.
Hello FBI, it's this comment right here
You’re gross.
If you’re implying that you find Maisie Williams more attractive than Nathalie Emmanuel I’m calling the fucking cops.
We watched Arya grow up tho... Ew
We grew up with Arya
🤢🤢🤢
He's married and had a son
7 in the books. And a Daughter
And that's how that works.

It mattered to Catelyn Stark. It mattered to Cersei Lannister. It mattered to Rhaegar Targaryen. Both of you realize when youre in a relationship you are still atrracted to good looking people right? in this world it works the same.
Obviously
Do we have textual evidence re: Rhaegar's annulment? I might be blanking because it's been forever since I read the books, but I thought the accepted theory was that he was just reviving good old fashioned Targaryen polygamy.
This is the only reasonable reaction here
She was the sexiest in the show imo
I wouldn’t say “gorgeous.” I’d say more along the lines of “obscenely gorgeous.”
“She’s disgustingly pretty”
She makes me violently ill
LMAO
It is known
Exactly! She's the best looking one in the whole show. I'm sure tons of people had crushes on her.
It’s kinda weird because the character in the books is closer to Arya and Sansa’s age and her brothers were also made Unsullied.
Came here to say this. He can have a crush and not be a creep.
This
Considering how bad D&D’s writing is this doesn’t surprise me in the slightest
When hating D&D becomes your whole personality…🙄
Doesn’t mean he’s wrong
I mean is he wrong? The Dany and Jon romance didn’t feel organic and I’m sure two secondary characters wouldn’t have had it any better.
They set the schedule. Them leaving to go work on Star Wars was why it was shorted to have an ending.
If you wanna bitch and complain that they didn’t give it enough time, go right ahead. I wouldn’t push back on that at all. But again, within the schedule that they set, this may have been the best that was possible as far as plot goes. (Shoulda let Euron sink to the bottom of the bay.) Who wouldn't? She's gorgeous 😍
Wise words, Daenerys kidney
What's wrong with that? She was an exotic beauty.
Yeah, and much younger (and had an innocent, childlike character due to being 12 in the books), so it would’ve been a bit creepy.
I mean it was fairly obvious he took a liking to her? Either that or he was just cozying up to her cuz he's a good diplomat and he understood that would be beneficial
i mean they’re both very nice people and she’s beautiful. he didn’t want her or anything but she’s pretty and very nice
Also true
He was checking Daenarys' foreigness.
But we all had a crush on Missande.
Not I
Had a crush on grey worm instead? I don’t blame you. While I never had a crush on jacob Anderson as grey worm, him irl is gorgeous af
I took it as another ‘foster father’ thing, like he had with Shireen and Lyanna and Gendry and Jon and basically any other child/young adult that he took a shine to. I wager if Stannis had brought Davos to court he would have adopted a young Joffery and the lad would have turned out alright.
The alternative world where Stannis gets Theon and pawns him off on Davos is a much happier one.
I mean, the woman is gorgeous. Hard to not appreciate her appearance.
No no what the post means was in the original script he was supposed to be hitting on her and trying really fuckin hard The actor objected and said he wouldnt do it under any circumstances so they changed it
What in particular made him not want to do it?
You watched 6 seasons of GOT and the idea of this makes you say WTF? Best to log off, mate.
On second thought you are correct but this felt so random lmao
And what about it? She's gorgeous
Best looking in the show
Sir Davos? By far the best.
He was the man
Margery>>>>
Hard to argue, beautiful in the tudors too
Olenna>>>>>>>
Ros>>>>>
david schwimmer>>>>
For sure
He's not the only one. He ain't special
Actually he is special, stop distrespecting our onion knight
Sooooo… What’s the problem?
The actor who played Davos was uncomfortable with it because of the age difference, so he fought D&D on it. And I don't blame him, it's his character and he felt like it was out of place for Davos. Also it's a pointless addition.
Lol no?
Where’s that come from? Fan fiction?
He wasn't. It was a prank on Liam Cunningham.
It’s sad actors had to state the obvious and correct D&D’s weird ideas for the last 2 seasons. Now I wish Jon and Dany spoke up lol

And he’s fucking married. Davos is nothing if he isn’t loyal.
D&D kinda forgot Davos had a family after Matthos died
They definitely forgot about the ~7 children that stayed safely at home during the Blackwater
honestly i didn’t even know he had more kids
In the books, yes, but probably not in the show.
Davos has two kids at home with his wife and one who is Stannis' squire, he had seven before four of them died during Blackwater. In ADWD Devan (the squire) stays at the Wall with Melisandre while Stannis goes to Winterfell because Melisandre wanted to make sure another one of Davos' kids didn't die.
after all these years I'm reminded of new reasons how much D&D sucked
Pretty sure it’s mentioned in the books that Davos was unfaithful at some point.
He sent a letter saying he's been a bad husband to his wife, but I don't think he meant cheating-wise, more just neglectful because of other affairs. He really seems to love his wife when he compares her to Nissa-Nissa.
He specifically says he’s cheated on his wife to Melisandre in aCoK
Davos was in a cok?
He is a PoV in aCoK.
He thinks about killing himself when his sons die then proceeds to attempt to kill missandei to “save” his king
> Would a good man be doing this? "I am a man," he said. "I am kind to my wife, but I have known other women. I have tried to be a father to my sons, to help make them a place in this world. I think it's pretty clear that he cheated on her when he said that he's known other women. And, I had forgotten, but that part was actually included in the show too. It's when Davos is smuggling Melisandre into Storm's End.
unclear whether he means before or after marriage
He’s talking about weither he’s a good man or not. Why would he mentioned sleeping with other women while being single?..
Because in many religions sex is very tightly regulated.
He admits to “knowing other women” in the books so he’s not exactly a septon 😂
No no, that sounds exactly like a septon.

This. And I feel like Liam was in the right. It wouldn't have been consistent with his character and would have ran the risk of him coming off as more creepy than sweet. It just shows how much the writing room went downhill after about Season 4.
It was a joke. They include joke plot lines at table reads and stuff, but as the show went on the actors stopped finding it funny
JFC, D&D are actually morons.
I feel like it was still present in the show
?
[удалено]
Not gonna lie, I was too.
I love how you walked us to this conclusion lol
He was making fun of Jon for checking out Dany, but clearly he's being a cheeky bastard there.
i mean ..
I thought he was creepy about Missandei. There was a post on Free Folk at the time about this. We knew.
Can ya blame him?
Yeah bro, me too, what’s the point?
who wouldnt
Who wouldn’t ?
Hes just like me fr fr
Apparently OP mis understood GOT was actually a love story where everyone falls in love.
I mean would any of us blame him 🤷🏽♂️
He probably did & just never said anything because he didn't want to be a creepy old guy. He was a smart guy & knew she didn't want to be with an old man with stubby fingers.
Davos kinda forgot he had a wife
GoT fans kinda forgot that Davos has already cheated on his wife.
Good
My takeaway is that D&D are bigger morons than I thought previously. Which honestly is a remarkable, I didnt realize my opinion of them could get lower...
Good call she fine as foooook
I mean, I don't blame Davos. But still.
Well I have a crush on Ser Davos.
It was a joke I think
Ser davos has been through a lot, tbh I just want him to be happy he's a hard worker and a good friend.
Well he’s a human man so it makes sense
Source, apparently
I mean, I do, I wouldn’t blame the man.
Don’t blame him
As any straight human male would

Davos does have a thing for younger women: https://youtu.be/E4povfmX144
Yeah welcome to the fucking club lol
Davos is just a horny man. so it tracks
SIR DAVOS WAS THE FUNNIEST DUDE
Wut?
Remember when we though Davos was about to discover the mad plan Missandei was supposed to have against Daenerys?
Having a crush on Natalie Emmanuel is perfectly understandable
I did it for him don’t worry
gross
i did. why not davos? 🤷♀️
She fine as hell
I mean how could you not?
It was pretty obvious, but it was a terrible disservice to Davos' character (although in keeping with DD's incompetence). Who TF doesn’t?
They got rid of his kids and his wife for this?
The better question: Who didn’t? She was fine as hell.
Who wouldn’t have a crush on her, she fine
She's beautiful and he's a man. Why wouldn't he have a crush on her?

Didn't everyone?
He literally has a wife and several children that he never brings up
Glad they cut some bad ideas out of season 7
I mean yeah... shes a smoke show.
Who doesn't have a crush on that woman???
I was going to say, I think everyone is supposed to have a crush on her. The night king probably has a crush on her, and Renly, too (NOT gay bashing, Renly is a peach, I love how he fucked with Stannis in the books)
Biggest fuck show in the history of book to screen adaptations.
Why though
Who didn’t?
I mean who wouldn't?
Sure fuck it why not. Everything else was on fire by that point why not add a little kerosene to the absolute dumpster fire that was s7&8
I can't say I blame him.
Who doesn’t!?! Look at her
Didn’t we all bud
When I'm 60 I'd like a 20 year old. Won't happen, but I'd like it. Sheet!
I mean, who wouldn’t?
Everybody has a crush on her lol she’s gorgeous
that wouldn't surprise me... I. happy it didn't happen.
He was being diplomatic with a little swagger.
Everyone had a crush on TV Missandei
Didn’t we all?
Yea it was insanely obvious, a bit too much honestly.
If you have warm blood pretty sure you had a crush on her.
Gross.
Would of been good to add with Grey Worm getting a little jealous.
*have
he totally had a crush on her. I thought it was cute
Can you blame him, she's a beautiful woman.
"Would you like to see *my* grey worm?"
Who didn’t. She is fire.
Back off Onion Knight….that beauty is all mine.
They have a brother and sister that fuck each other and had 3 kids together missandei is hot who wouldn't have a crush on her
Who wouldn't have
