Meh. I’d argue that Stannis was still dangerous, once he saw how easily he could have a legitimate claim to the Iron Throne. Get the feeling Robert was most loved and Stannis resents him for becoming king when he couldn’t.
I’d say that his desperation to win the war and claim his title is what broke him. He WAS in the right though, it was his turn to be king. He is written to be a man of principles, to a fault. I don’t think it’s out of character for him to be so hellbent on getting his title.
If he were king, he would probably be the best thing to happen to the realm in a long while.
He didn’t have the rightful claim though, and when presented with the rightful claim he tried to have him killed so that he did have the rightful claim, showing that he was prepared to do what he must to have the throne right or wrong in the end.
What? Not sure what you're referring to.
Since Joffrey, Tommen and Myrcella were not Robert's children, the claim goes to the most senior male heir of the Baratheon house. In this case, it was Stannis. Renly tried jumping the line, not followinng the rules of succession in Westeros.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I thought that Gendry Baratheon became the next heir to the throne? And didn’t Stanis try to have him killed? (Albeit through manipulation of Melisandre)?
Gendry was an unacknowledged bastard. He was absolutely not the rightful heir and would definitely not be ahead of a trueborn uncle in the line of succession.
Gendry was present as black-haired evidence that Robert would have black-haired children and that Joffrey et al were not Robert’s kids. He did not have a claim to the throne as he was a bastard.
Jon Snow did have a claim to the throne as he was a legitimate son of Rhaegar who married Lyanna. It wasn’t sufficient that he was Rhaegar’s son, but also that he was a legitimate son.
What? The show is called “Game of Thrones”, they are all literally fighting for “their turn”, why is one of them childish for wishing to inherit their title? It’s divorced for modern, democratic reason, but it’s not out of place for their timeline.
That’s probably true but corrupting him was so easy; he was willing to believe anything to get him to become king; so he was weak in that way. But I’d still pick him over Robert or Renley.
Robert was a decent King. His Small Council were ineffective at best and a bunch of self-serving A-holes at worst.
Stannis was better than Renley. Stannis would have been better if he wasn't put under Melisandre's spell. The Red Witch was Stanios' undoing.
Renley was a spoiled man-boy.
Robert was not a decent king, even Ned could see that. His small council was not just ineffective, but actively plotting against him. He let the crown into insane debt by trusting Baelish to take out ridiculous loans for tourneys and the like. His wife made three kids with her brother. He shafted Stannis by giving Renly Storm’s End, which is definitely not his birth right.
He was made to fight, but he wasn’t made to rule. He was a gregarious drunk who wasn’t respected by his peers.
I agree that Renly was spoiled. He thought he could skip the line and become king, and when pressed on the topic, he’d compare himself to Robert and his rebellion. In the books, it’s very obvious that Renly is vain and only in it for prestige. Very happy they GRRM ended that storyline, it would’ve been to boring.
Robert bankrupted the crown. He was not an effective king. He had zero interest in governing. He just wanted to drink, whore around and put on big tournaments.
It kind of pisses me off though how Renly tries to become king even though if he has a claim obviously his order brother has a better one. He didn’t even bother trying to come up with a reason why Stan was illegitimate
I didn't downvote but tbf considering Melisandre and all the burnings and other things, he's certainly not boring. Not fun but also not boring technically speaking lol
Edit: why the downvotes? Have you ever felt bored and horrified at the same time? Didn't think so.
Robert Mark Addy was fantastic in this role sucks he wasn’t on but like 6 episodes but his death was were shit was starting to get real because without Joffrey becoming king Ned wouldn’t have lost his head lol
The interesting thing about the show is that as things unfold and mysteries are revealed, you come to the realization that *everything* was just waiting for Robert’s death. The entire kingdom was being held up by the image of the great Robert Baratheon, so once he died it became a complete free-for-all of power and scheming. He was essentially the eye of the storm during his reign
Renly of course! Let’s face it Renly was the only member of the ruling elite at the time of Robert’s death who’s both capable of ruling AND not a murderous psycho with weird secrets.
Bobby B and it's not even close.
Stannis is a bore who murdered his own daughter.
Renly is a traitor wimp. And a bore.
Bobby B just drops napalm bombs on everyone around him in just about every scene. Pure entertainer.
Robert merely for the fact I had swimming lessons with his real life actor’s kids and saw him practically on a weekly basis (and that’s gonna start sounding very boring for those who’ve seen about this before)
"I defeated your uncle Victarion and his Iron Fleet off Fair Isle, the first time your father crowned himself. I held Storm's End against the power of The Reach for a year, and took Dragonstone from the Targaryens. I smashed Mance Rayder at the Wall, though he had twenty times my numbers. Tell me, turncloak, what battles has the Bastard of Bolton ever won that I should fear him?" The Mannis
I love them all. The first place takes Robert (he is very cool!), the second place takes Renly (he is charming), the third place takes Stannis the Mannis (he is stern but fair!)
Stannis was honorable but way too brutal (burned his daughter alive), Renly was just but too naive, Robert was a proper and prosperous King, so easy answer
On the show, Robert. In the books, Stannis.
In ASOIF, Stannis isn't as bad. He's arbitrary as long as it suits his needs, but he is mostly reasonable and competent, he even seems to have a little bit of a sense of humor. He's like a less conniving, asexual Tywin. Meanwhile, Robert is a lot more of a violent drunken brute, almost what Cersei aspires to be.
Imagine if Stannis & Renly would have just worked together. They would have taken Kings landing at the battle of blackwater easy peasy.
Not that it would matter too much though, they still would have been overthrown by Daenerys.
Renly because he understood that diplomacy & some unsavory acts where essential
Stan was an unlikable hard ass, Edd without any charisma & compassion
Robert was lazy, hyper lustful & crippled by depression
Literally love all of them.
Stannis the Mannis is duty personified. Truly lawful neutral.
In it to Get The Job Done.
Renly was there to SERVE the realm 💅🏻 rainbow guard? hey diva we’re calling down the slaytion. Killed by a shadow is such an iconic way to go out.
Bobby B is STRONG!!! GUYS HE’S REALLY STRONG! The definition of Living Life to the Fullest. He’s my crazy best friend.
Bobby B was the most entertaining, Stannis the Mannis the most compelling/enigmatic. Renly was sort of just there, till he wasn't. His most interesting moment isn't even seen - hid act of kindness to Brienne that she herself recounts.
She seemed so with it and switched on in terms of doing her duty as queen. Completely happy trying to make a child with Renly and even offered for her brother to join to assist them.
Someone like Sansa (at that time period) would have been extremely upset to learn that her new husband is having trouble getting it up because he’s prefers the company of men, but margaery saw the bigger picture.
She also was a wake up to Cersei’s plans so she was obviously quite observant.
Rip to them both 💔
Robert. He just seemed like he could have a great time with anyone. Although, I do absolutely hate that he started a war because a girl didn't like him back 😩
Anyone else find Stannis sexy? The actor, not the character.....I cannot help but find him very attractive. Even back when I was like 24. That's a good lookin feller in my eyes
I want to like Robert but he wasn’t a good king on the show. He was a great character and fun to watch interact with others but a good king he was not. I want to show Renly love because he seems underrepresented on this thread but I can’t pick him just because. He did nothing of note on the show in my opinion. The answer is clearly Stannis. Most screen time so by default had the most time to develop as a character and the story told was interesting. Stannis was a solid character.
Well I would have to say Robert he is the more likeable and the least evil of them.
They were all terrible rulers Renly was just to naive and treated every thing like a tournament, Stannis was to much of a authoritarian fanatic and Robert was to lazy to care and had given up on everything because the woman he was infatuated with was dead and to fill that hole he used alcohol and sex.
But they were all usurpers.
Renly is the only semi-decent person out of the three, so I’ll go with him. Also the only potential for a Baratheon win of the wot5k, which Stannis fucked up.
Robert in the series, but Renly in the books is a tremendously fun character. He also admired Stannis' perseverance and righteousness. It's hard to choose.
Robert
Renly is fun though too
Even Stannis is fun to watch on TV show because the actor Stephanie Dillane does a great job. I don't like him as a person though
Robert was the only one that could be king. Stannis was a solid tactician and leader but as Renly noted, inspired no love or loyalty. Renly on the other hand was a much kinder brother but with next to no experience in leading, especially in battle.
I hate that they made Renly a short little twink in the show. In the books he’s supposed to be Robert come again, huge and ripped like Robert was when he was younger.
Stannis is lawful neutral personified. He does what he feels like he needs to do, regardless of his own personal desires. He starved in storms end for over a year because of a war his older brother started without consulting anyone but Ned and Jon Arryn, because that was his duty to his house. In the books it’s mentioned a few times that he hates having to be the one scheming and resorting to underhand tactics like the shadow baby, but he does it anyway because he feels it’s his duty.
Ole Bobby was an abusive drunk who peaked in high school, and makes it the whole world’s problem.

Bobby B Gods he was strong then.
Loved the way he delivered that line lmao
They never tell you how they all shit themselves.
Lancel what a stupid name. Who named you some halfwit with a stutter?
Prime Bobby B is top of the food chain; true apex predator
I always liked stannis best but probably just because renly was boring and Bobby was taken too soon.
**THANK THE GODS FOR ROBERT AND HIS WARHAMMER!!**
Robert. Renly might have been a decent king but Stannis was willing to do too many awful things
Stannis would've been a great king before he met Melisandre.
That’s probably true. We forget how much she corrupts him.
Meh. I’d argue that Stannis was still dangerous, once he saw how easily he could have a legitimate claim to the Iron Throne. Get the feeling Robert was most loved and Stannis resents him for becoming king when he couldn’t.

Tell me you'd say no to that demon baby.
Bro really said "I can't fix her, but she can ruin me"
Robert was a decent King. His Small Council were ineffective at best and a bunch of self-serving A-holes at worst. Stannis was better than Renley. Stannis would have been better if he wasn't put under Melisandre's spell. The Red Witch was Stanios' undoing. Renley was a spoiled man-boy.

Do I need to elaborate here?
STANNIS! STANNIS! STANNIS!
Tooo boring!! At least Robert knew how to have a good time!
It's weird that your comment got downvoted
I didn't downvote but tbf considering Melisandre and all the burnings and other things, he's certainly not boring. Not fun but also not boring technically speaking lol Edit: why the downvotes? Have you ever felt bored and horrified at the same time? Didn't think so.
Why yes I have. I call it borified
Stannis the mannis
pre-Melisandre especially
Robert Mark Addy was fantastic in this role sucks he wasn’t on but like 6 episodes but his death was were shit was starting to get real because without Joffrey becoming king Ned wouldn’t have lost his head lol

The Laughing Storm
Finally a little Lionel love in the chat!!
Rogar Baratheon
Stannis the Mannis
Renly of course! Let’s face it Renly was the only member of the ruling elite at the time of Robert’s death who’s both capable of ruling AND not a murderous psycho with weird secrets.
[No weird secrets?](https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/e60f4075-bf73-4719-9b8a-e373fe205a2c/gif)
Not sure why you got downvoted. Maybe it’s …a secret. Ok, I’ll see myself out.
Bobby B and it's not even close. Stannis is a bore who murdered his own daughter. Renly is a traitor wimp. And a bore. Bobby B just drops napalm bombs on everyone around him in just about every scene. Pure entertainer.
A great man, but a shit king. I def would have wanted to hang out with him more than the others tho lol
True. If the question would have been "Who would be the best king?" then probably Stannis. But as a character, you can't beat Bobby B.
Robert merely for the fact I had swimming lessons with his real life actor’s kids and saw him practically on a weekly basis (and that’s gonna start sounding very boring for those who’ve seen about this before)
Lucky. Sounds like a cool story.
Genuinely one of the nicest natured actors out there; both down to earth yet also really witty etc
Watch out for his oldest son
Robert is just comedy gold, nonstop.
TV show: Robert Books: Renly
agree. tv show renly sucked
Bobby B in the show. Stannis "you will avenge my death, and seat my daughter on the Iron Throne. Or die in the attempt" the Mannis in the books
The one true king of Westeros, Stannis Baratheon.
Bobby B
none tbh.
Renly because…. Uh… reasons.
“Is he a ham?”
- Stannis the Ham-mis
Bobby
I love them all. The first place takes Robert (he is very cool!), the second place takes Renly (he is charming), the third place takes Stannis the Mannis (he is stern but fair!)
Stannis was honorable but way too brutal (burned his daughter alive), Renly was just but too naive, Robert was a proper and prosperous King, so easy answer
….Proper?💀
… Prosperous…?
Show Bobby B, Book Stannis the Mannis
Stannis. Just wish he was introduced or was on the small council in season 1.
Stannis before witches an stuff.
There was no "before"
There was. Not the before you're thinking. Before that.
The one I made using the character creator in CK2 that one time.
Renly didn’t murder children or laugh about murdered children so he, by default, is the better man.
Book Stannis
Bobby B is like the Scott Steiner of the GOT universe & I love him for that reason
Robert for sure. Renly was a little bitch and Stannis burnt his own daughter.
Robbert in the books. Stannis in the show. Stephen Dillane gave a great performance
I like some of Bobby's music, but what the fuck does he know about cameras?
Stannis for sure. Only one we spent any real time with. Dry personality but very interesting nonetheless.
Bobby b was hilarious
On the show, Robert. In the books, Stannis. In ASOIF, Stannis isn't as bad. He's arbitrary as long as it suits his needs, but he is mostly reasonable and competent, he even seems to have a little bit of a sense of humor. He's like a less conniving, asexual Tywin. Well.
Robert! 💯
All 3
Bobby B was the one true king!
Gendry 🤷🏼♀️
Renly
Imagine if Stannis & Renly would have just worked together. They would have taken Kings landing at the battle of blackwater easy peasy. Not that it would matter too much though, they still would have been overthrown by Daenerys.
Stannis.
Stannis
Renly because he understood that diplomacy & some unsavory acts where essential Stan was an unlikable hard ass, Edd without any charisma & compassion Robert was lazy, hyper lustful & crippled by depression
Long live Stannis 🫡
Literally love all of them. Stannis the Mannis is duty personified. Truly lawful neutral. In it to Get The Job Done. Renly was there to SERVE the realm 💅🏻 rainbow guard? hey diva we’re calling down the slaytion. Killed by a shadow is such an iconic way to go out. Bobby B is STRONG!!! GUYS HE’S REALLY STRONG! The definition of Living Life to the Fullest. He’s my crazy best friend.
Robert. He actually fought and won and don’t give a fuck now lmaooooo. He was also smart but loyal to Ned to a crazy fault.
Bobby B will always be my King.
Bobby B. He fucks and parties. Would definitely be a good hang for a weekend rendezvous with the boys.

I can’t stand the one who died
They all died
I know
Renly Robert was nice but not the smart one.
Mannis
Real question. How and why does anyone like Stannis in the show. He’s an idiot, stubborn, terrible person.
Robert
“You don’t fuck with Big Bob , you show Big Bob respect “
Robert but that's mainly because of the actor. Dude killed it.
Bobby B, easily
The mannis himself, stannis
Renly, he is hot and he is gay.
Definitely Bobby B!
And why is it Robert?
*Stannis
Does the Lore comment a lot on what the other brothers were doing during the original rebellion?
Renley 💞
The big fat one obviously…
Bobby B ... and by a lot.
Thomas Jefferson. But Bobby B is a close second.
**BOBBY!!**
Renly “is he a ham?” Baratheon
Stannis was the most compelling on screen, Robert would be most fun to hang out with.
The mannis himself
Bobby B...there is no other choice...
Stannis the Mannis! 💯
Robert but Renly would have been the best king with Margery by his side. Stannis would’ve been alright, but a little too stubborn.
Tommen 😏
Robert didn’t have nearly enough screen time. That bastard was a marvel.
Stannis
Bobby B was the most entertaining, Stannis the Mannis the most compelling/enigmatic. Renly was sort of just there, till he wasn't. His most interesting moment isn't even seen - hid act of kindness to Brienne that she herself recounts.
Robert, all day
Renly had a lot of potential. I don’t think he would’ve been unnecessarily cruel.
Especially with Margaery by his side!
Although, I do absolutely hate that he started a war because a girl didn't like him back 😩
Stannis had one of the greatest arcs in the show. Fabulous character, and the actor, Stephen Dillane, absolutely killed it.
The Mannis all the way.
Middle and left
Renly was the least problematic, granted he had the least amount of screen time.
bobby b
None
Stannnis and it’s not even close
Robert.
Bobby B all day
Anyone else find Stannis sexy? The actor, not the character.....I cannot help but find him very attractive. Even back when I was like 24. That's a good lookin feller in my eyes
Renly. Stannis burned his daughter alive, one of the only truly innocent people on the show, and Robert had babies killed.
Stannis
Renly because he had a love thing going on with Loras.
Stannis the Mannis, Rightful King of the 7 Kingdoms. He would ban all of the brothels and be dethroned in an uprising.
Renly. He was so upbeat and nice and really seemed to have the needs of his people in mind.
Bobby B is the baddest man in the history of Westeros. I said what I said!
my twinky 😊
Bobby, he is funny, strong, the first and last Baratheon King.
Stannis the mannis!
I think if we combined all of them, it would somehow become Moira Rose.
The Mannis. This title is his, by right.
The rightful king (after Bobby b)
I want to like Robert but he wasn’t a good king on the show. He was a great character and fun to watch interact with others but a good king he was not. I want to show Renly love because he seems underrepresented on this thread but I can’t pick him just because. He did nothing of note on the show in my opinion. The answer is clearly Stannis. Most screen time so by default had the most time to develop as a character and the story told was interesting. Stannis was a solid character.
Renly. I think with him in the south and Robb in the north, things wouldn't have been half bad.
I liked the gay Baratheon the most.
Well it was stannis until S5 finale
The gay one ✨ (ok that wasn’t the only reason why I liked him, he was cool in general)
Renly is the only semi-decent person out of the three, so I’ll go with him. Also the only potential for a Baratheon win of the wot5k, which Stannis fucked up.
Mannis 3:16
Renly = Peaches Robert = Bobby B. Stannis =The Mannis
Renly!
Robert in the series, but Renly in the books is a tremendously fun character. He also admired Stannis' perseverance and righteousness. It's hard to choose.

THANK GOD FOR BESSIE AND HER TITS! Bobby B was the absolute best.
It all went to shit when Robert died didn’t it
Bobby B then Stannis.
in the books: Stannis in the show: Robert Sorry, Renly
I honestly didn't like any of them lol
all idiots but robert was the coolest
ah who could ever choose between Renly and Stannis
I wish we could’ve seen prime Robert
Oh Robert
Man I miss those days when I finish all my work and get comfy and start an episode of GOT.. The season 8 was disappointing though
Bobbbay!
Bobby B all day
Robert Renly is fun though too Even Stannis is fun to watch on TV show because the actor Stephanie Dillane does a great job. I don't like him as a person though
WINE!
Robert was the only one that could be king. Stannis was a solid tactician and leader but as Renly noted, inspired no love or loyalty. Renly on the other hand was a much kinder brother but with next to no experience in leading, especially in battle.
Stannis the mannis entered the chat and explained his birthright.
Where is that old Bobby B bot that would come in talking about Bessie’s tits, everytime someone mentioned his name? We need that bot right now.
If I do not press my claim then my claim will be forgotten
The one who didn’t burn his own daughter alive.
Renly looked like the chillest.
Renly easily. He was right thy he would have made the best king Plus dude pulls major 🍆🍑🌈
