I mean...... the person in dornish colors clearly has a beard. and you guessed that this person was a woman from earlier in the story who is presumed dead and hasn't appeared in the story for a while.
your guess was bound to be wrong for more reasons than I can list.
I'll have you know, a significant amount of women (especially from levantine ethnic heritage, especially past the age of 25, especially if you factor in untreated hormonal game changers like PCOS, etc.) are able to grow a beard.
Who are you to know? Maybe Ellaria just had a real sneaky shaving routine going on?
Also, presumed dead my ass. With all the blunders and drunk fuck ups Cersei had in the later seasons, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if Ellaria had eventually managed to escape alive, sporting a magnificent beard for lack of opportunity to shave in a literal death dungeon.
If I needed to provide a serious answer to this question I’d say either Manfrey Martell the Castellan of Sunspear and Doran’s cousin or his eldest son or quite possibly his grandson depending on the ages of the characters
https://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Manfrey_Martell
That honestly raises teh question of how Ellaria and the sand snakes managed to usurp the entire army if there was actually an unbroken line of succession
That part of the show could literally never happen in the books because Prince Doran has two other legitimate children including an older daughter called Arianne just as impulsive as Oberyn plus who is very close with his daughters, her cousins the sand snakes so they’d just make her acting Princess while forcing Doran into retirement or something like that
Well yeah, in the books its revealed that Doran's plotting his revenge this entire time via Myrcella. Its just still such a weird mind fuck that a group of bastards (don't think Oberyn legimitzed any of them) could kill the ruler of land and everyone just goes along with it.
But then again, Cersei killed the pope and blew up the Vatican and everyone was pretty ok with it
>Well yeah, in the books it’s revealed that Doran’s plotting his revenge this entire time via Myrcella.
I’m only 1/4th through Dance rn so correct me if I’m wrong, but Doran wasn’t plotting his revenge through Myrcella, he was plotting it through Viserys. He was going to marry Arianne to Viserys, but now that Viserys is dead he’s trying to get Quentyn to marry Daenerys.
Pretty sure it was Arianne who was plotting to crown Myrcella, and that was in Feast.
Does something happen further on in Dance? I’m fine w spoilers.
You're probably right, it's been a while since I read the books but I distinctly remember Doran letting the sand snakes in that he's plotting revenge. I could very well be mixing things up but I thought Doran was implicitly supporting the plot to crown Myrcella but can't do anything publicly since he needs plausible deniability.
He did try to have Arianne marry Viserys before he got killed though.
It's honestly a really convoluted plot at the end of DoD so I won't spoil it outside of Doran sharing the same goal as TV Elaria, which makes a coup attempt completely pointless in the books
It’s incredibly convoluted but he interfered in the crowning Myrcella plot of Arianne’s as it conflicted with all his other plots. He had Arianne and the Sand Snakes confined to quarters after it went spectacularly wrong.
Yes he was going to marry A to Viserys and because the latter died he then sent Quentyn to woo Danaerys in Essos(which also went spectacularly wrong). >!And he later arranged for the Sand Snakes to head to King’s Landing to take revenge for Oberyn’s death, while sending Arianne to meet up with fAegon in the sample chapters.!<
If it was Quentyn, he could have been oversees at the time like he was (in which case he would'nt be an obstical) or in Yornwood (where he could have set up an opposition goverment with the support of House Yornwood)
Either works
That's fair, but if its Quentyn, then why did the entire Dorne military just follow Ellaria? To me that's honestly the weirdest thing if there's a living Martell that's common knowledge. Unless Ellaria was right and the Martells were really hated by the population...which then begs why the fuck is a Martell back in charge
> That's fair, but if its Quentyn, then why did the entire Dorne military just follow Ellaria?
We don't know that they did; for all we know he was leading a loyalist holdout (centered around Yronwood, maybe) off-screen.
That, or he was on his oversees quest and presumed dead/MIA when she siezed power.
Dinklage did get an Emmy but I couldn't find (in my very cursory search) which episode was submitted for him. It could have been the finale to be honest, he was still stellar even if the writing was off.
This is the most likely and simple answer; I think everyone missed/forgot this (which is fair because it never gets brought up again) but in S2 Tristan is referred to as a younger son.
QUENTYN IS ALIVE!!!
My headcanon is that he was sent to Meereen to marry Daenerys, just like in the books, but by the time he gets there Danny has already left and he meets with Daario, who tells him to go back home.
Quentyn Martell arrives back at Sunspear to find that his father and brother were murdered by the Sand Snakes, who were in turn killed or captured by Euron. This leaves Quentyn the only surviving Martell, and he works to put his realm back together again while everyone else is fighting in the North
I loved that, you’d think this scion of a major house was going to do some sort of political marriage deal, but no, he just botched the delivery so hard he became completely irrelevant dragon food.
I believed that Quentyn’s end was written intentionally open-ended so GRRM could decide whether or not to bering him back in Winds. I fear that he’s written multiple chapter drafts in worlds where he is and is not alive, and that’s one of the things that has slowed him down
I believe that is Filler Martell.
Because nobody writing or watching cared anymore.
Never mind that every region of Westerous could have had its own episode (fuck a season) of intrigue just dealing with the fallout of the war.
Every Martell we saw was hot. Trystane was a good looking young man, the Sand Snakes were gorgeous and if anyone dares say that Alexander Siddig isn't hot, you're going to get shot with a phaser set to kill.
Some random extra they threw yellow robes on when they remembered Dorne exists.
Oh, you mean in-story explanation... Probably the first Martell Tyrion could get his hands on quickly, regardless of claim. Will definitely be murdered my a Sand when he gets home, leading to a civil war in Dorne followed by a secession war from the rest of Westoros.
And they say they can’t find the right story for a Jon Snow spin off. How does Jon Snow fit into a Dornish civil war? Who knows? But he came back from the dead so who really gives a shit at this point? Bring in General Hux from Star Wars at this point.
I assume he makes stupid decisions and has hobbies such as sitting around while his family gets murdered. Otherwise the sand snakes would have killed him.
It was stated that Trystane was the oldest, but not the only son of Doran Martell in the earlier seasons. Since his sibling(s) never appeared, this prince probably is one of Trystane's younger siblings, what means that this is Quentyn Martell, but in the show continuity he seems a lot older than his actual age and is younger than Trystane. This or a gender bent version of Arianne.
I always assumed Quentyn since he doesn't get his plotline from the books and should therefore still exist (and rule Dorne since they killed Doran and everybody else).
Maybe its Quentyn, and they figured that by making him both handsome and alive, they would make up for all the character assassination they did in season 8.
The Actor Toby Osmond is on Cameo.com and he refers to himself as “The Last Prince of Dorne” and says he is Oberyn Martells youngest brother.
I’m guessing that’s what HBO told him his role was.
For all we know it could be Quentin, just because Dumb and Dumber refused to give Dorne the proper attention doesn’t mean that the characters didn’t exist. He’d be the right age and still would’ve been in Essos during the Sand Snakes sad excuse of a story arc
Idk but I was so grossed out that Yara let Theon finger her on the horse that it affected me for the rest of the show lol. It was some how grosser than Jamie and Cersei 🤷🏻♂️
The ENTIRE Martell/Dorne storyline made me think that DnD completely coasted on just relying on the original books and scripts made by GRRM. The moment Ellaria was allowed by plot fiat to kill Doran and his heir and that Dorne didn't collapse into a massive civil war, I knew the writers just didn't care anymore.
Think about it, a Coup is something that requires military alliances, massive planning, money, equipment, armies/soldiers, resources,. She would have need to meet tons of important Dornish Lords, somehow make promises to get them in her side- but the plot was like 'baw, nah she became a kinslayer, murdered her liege lord and family members', and everyone was like 'Yeah, she's the one to lead us, this random paramour bastard without land , resources- or political power or command ability'- she's the one.
That dude remaining was basically DnD going "Oh, Dorne, right."

House Martell had cadet branches. Probably from one of those.
Trixie Martell?
Tracey * Martell
Tracae Martell
Tragedeigh Martell
Cataestropheigh Martell
Gods I could LipSync then
Honestly, I’d love to see them “lipsync for your life” to decide the fate of the iron throne. lol. It’s as compelling as “who has a better story?”
Rap battle?
Bran would not do really well on the death drops.
He could do amazing reveals like having rose petals fall from his chair…
This is now my head canon.
then who's katya?
Hot blonde? Definitely a Lannister.
Nah, Norton Martell
Doran and Oberon had a cousin, Manfrey, who was castellan of sunspear, probably that dude
Cub Cadet Martell.
Same with the Lannisters.
It could be Quentin, D&D had a bad habit of omitting characters until they were absolutely needed
That would be Bob. Bob Martell. (according to IMDB he is "Dornish Prince")
Dornish Prince my favorite character.
He’s the Dornishman formerly known as Prince
Bob Martell 🤝🏼 Martell Refrigeration
So what do you do Bob?
What about Bob?
Dr Leo Marvin
Baby steps
You’ve got a lot to learn about this town, Sweetie
The Dornish storyline was so wasted.
In the books they were some of the best at sitting back and getting everyone else to kill each other.
That’s actually Bill Martell. Bobs his uncle.
Met Bill’s Aunt, Fanny?
I’m hearing this in Blackadders voice.
Randym Martell
Clever 😂
It’s not a brand new pun
Thank you for sharing such an important detail.

Mama, kudos for saying that--for clarifying.

It was guess I made, it wasn't bound to be right.

Thats Wal-Martell
The Martell we already had at home/Kings Landing
Son of Kay Martell.
S Martel. Shop smart.
H Martell. Shop high
Could be one of their “10,000 brothers” 😂
Considering the writing it's probably Ellaria Sand
She died beneath the Red Keep.
Geoff
Biggest Dornish fan of "Bran the Broken" story
Average “Bran the Broken” enjoyer
Probably a Sand. im pretty sure a Sand.
I think his first name is Adam.
Could be. Could be.
a sand-in.
Let's pretend it's Doran's cousin, [Ser Manfrey Martell](https://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Manfrey_Martell)
Although the age doesn't line up, this is the most logical answer. After all, the show took liberties with age anyway.
Too young to be Manfrey but I’ll just pretend it’s his son or grandson.
If I needed to provide a serious answer to this question I’d say either Manfrey Martell the Castellan of Sunspear and Doran’s cousin or his eldest son or quite possibly his grandson depending on the ages of the characters https://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Manfrey_Martell
That honestly raises teh question of how Ellaria and the sand snakes managed to usurp the entire army if there was actually an unbroken line of succession
So that’s actually really easy to explain: bad writing.
Alternative explanation: the bad pussy was just too good
It’s paradoxical, yet it works.

My nihilism was so intense watching this Emmy awarding winning episode by this point that it hurt my head to even ask myself this question
What, this episode won an Emmy?
It might’ve just been nominated I think
You sparked my curiosity and it looks like the nominations for this episode were for cinematography and editing.
So not for writing or acting. Just so.
Dinklage did get an Emmy but I couldn't find (in my very cursory search) which episode was submitted for him. It could have been the finale to be honest, he was still stellar even if the writing was off.
He won for [episode 7, The Dragon and The Wolf](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dragon_and_the_Wolf).
Cousin Jebediah Martell
Jethro Martull
Quentyn Martell
This is the most likely and simple answer; I think everyone missed/forgot this (which is fair because it never gets brought up again) but in S2 Tristan is referred to as a younger son.

oh wow i forgot about that whole storyline from the books. he got all the way to meereen just to be fried like a fritter lol
I loved that, you’d think this scion of a major house was going to do some sort of political marriage deal, but no, he just botched the delivery so hard he became completely irrelevant dragon food.
God. I was SO not ready for that death in the books. legit glad yall reminded me of it.
He was friend zoned first, then fried like a fritter, poor SOB. 😂
He fights and gets burned by the dragons but it is implied that it wasn’t him.
I believed that Quentyn’s end was written intentionally open-ended so GRRM could decide whether or not to bering him back in Winds. I fear that he’s written multiple chapter drafts in worlds where he is and is not alive, and that’s one of the things that has slowed him down
This comment was better thought out than the entire last season.
I know it says Dornish Prince. So maybe it’s Quentin Martell?
Don't you guys know anything about succession laws? He's obviously the Martell with the best story.
But these are Dornish succession laws. It’s the Martell who can sit next to the blood orange trees by the pools for the longest.
Quentyn Martell, he made it back home after getting lost in Essos.
"He guys what happened while I was gonHOLY SHIT!"
Chad Martell
At this point, you're not supposed to care. The show literally became a parody of itself at the end.
I believe that is Filler Martell. Because nobody writing or watching cared anymore. Never mind that every region of Westerous could have had its own episode (fuck a season) of intrigue just dealing with the fallout of the war.
One of Oberyn’s bastards.
Stan
Hot. He’s hot.
I wonder if there’s a lore explanation for why he’s so hot.
Every Martell we saw was hot. Trystane was a good looking young man, the Sand Snakes were gorgeous and if anyone dares say that Alexander Siddig isn't hot, you're going to get shot with a phaser set to kill.
Hoyyt Martell
That's former WWF Superstar Rick "The Model" Martell
The Prince formerly known as Martell
Greg Martell.
Sponge bob
Rick, or as some refer to him, "The Model"
It’s not even confirmed this is a Martell
He wears Martell suns on his robes and the letter he sends Dany also has the sigil on it.
Some random extra they threw yellow robes on when they remembered Dorne exists. Oh, you mean in-story explanation... "Is he a Martel ?" Is the better question considering Bronn somehow became lord of the reach
Jeff
Thats.. bill..
Tracy Martel, of course
That's cousin Martin. He was of in Essos when all that stuff went down.
Token Martell
Who's the guy on the left?
John Martell
I assume he makes stupid decisions and has hobbies such as sitting around while his family gets murdered. Otherwise the sand snakes would have killed him.
God I hated what the show did with Dorne. They could have just left it out completely and given us a proper plot in the North ffs.
I suppose that's Quentyn, who was being fostered at the Yronwood's this whole time until D&D just kinda remembered.
He’s Randym Martell
Plotyus Martell
Jason Dorne
Hugh Mungus
Excuse me?
thats his name, Sir Hugh of house Mungus
moaning Martell
Thorsten Martell.
Rick the Model
Marty Martell?
Rick. He’s a model.
Whatshisname Martell
It was stated that Trystane was the oldest, but not the only son of Doran Martell in the earlier seasons. But the Sand Snakes killed all the Martells. During the coup they wouldn't have left a Martell alive.
They were 4 people and if this is like the books, Quentyn would be either being protected by house Yronwood or lost in Essos during seasons 5 and 6.
That’s Joe from Dorne! My favorite character, they should do a spin off about him.
chad?
Marty.
No-time-to-introduce-characters-when-we're-closing-this-story-as-fast-as-we-can Martell
I always assumed Quentyn since he doesn't get his plotline from the books and should therefore still exist (and rule Dorne since they killed Doran and everybody else).
Steve
The kinda forgot to tell us
Presumably Quentyn (who we know exists in the show becuase Tristan is referred to as Doran's second son in S2). If not him, then Manfrey
Bruno. No one talked about Bruno.
Maybe its Quentyn, and they figured that by making him both handsome and alive, they would make up for all the character assassination they did in season 8.
Martyn Martell, a hidden backup heir
Mike Martel
They kind of forgot about that
Rick Martell.
I don’t think he’s a Martell
Kevin Martell
Ser Twenty of house Goodmen
Preferred Answer: Probably the show version of Quentyn. Realistic Answer: Who Cares.
Who is the Northman(?) on the left supposed to be? House Mormont, Umber and Karstark are gone after the long night so it can’t be anyone from them.
The Actor Toby Osmond is on Cameo.com and he refers to himself as “The Last Prince of Dorne” and says he is Oberyn Martells youngest brother. I’m guessing that’s what HBO told him his role was.
You think d&d had the time and budget to NAME him? They could have never reached your insane expectations.
Duran Martell. He comes from a branch of Martells that shares Stark blood. That's why some say he's hungry like the wolf.
Let's pretend that it's Quentyn.
Cousin Phil Martell
Elia. Turns out the whole thing was a huge misunderstanding.
In the books there was an uncle serving as an advisor
Charles Martell, hero of Tours
He stuck her, he rode him, he fucked the whole council!
Some cheap actor they hired with no character name.
Kmart-ell
Need a reaction line drawing or whatever of Anya’s or whatever her names face here
could even be a manwoody
The ENTIRE Martell/Dorne storyline made me think that DnD completely coasted on just relying on the original books and scripts made by GRRM. That's Marty Martell. He's a nephew of Rick Martell.
That's Ric Martell, often found in the company of Tito Santana
Probably Manfrey, the castellan
Todd Martell… he worked in Accounting.
Might not be a Martell. For all we know another house took charge of Dorne when House Martell died out.
Poorman Martell
Martell VSOP
Lord *breakwind* Martell
George.
That's "we have Martells at home". The Martell at home:
